Printing on my HP Laserjet 2600n

HI, i have a new iMac which has been running tiger with my printer on a wireless network through an apple airport and it works fantastic, however i upgraded to leopard and have not been able to print a single document, even though the computers says it has completed the job, i have uninstalled the drivers, and used the driver on the setup from leopard, however the printer i use is not listed, so ive tried a few different ones, including the HP Laserjet 2605, but im still haveing the same problem, can anyone assist me as this is a major problem for me. I have looked thru the forums and have seen people with similar problems, but i cant find a way of combatting it. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Here is a package I made that removes all the printers and installs the older HP software and drivers.  Should work on 10.6.x through 10.7.1.    I tested on 10.6.8 and 10.7.1 and seems to work fine.
Just beware it removes all printers, you will have to setup your other printers again.  Read the contents of the package for info.
Also not when you go to seup the 2600n when picking the driver do not use the 1.3.0.261 driver, use the plain HP Color LaserJet 2600n driver.    Version of the driver should be 1.3.   Anything after seems to be a faulty driver.
Updated Links for new package…..updated wording in read me and fixed the script that runs to make a backup copy of the ppd folder found in /private/etc/cups/

  • Printing problem with HP Laserjet 2600n

I recently bought a HP LaserJet 2600n and connected it to my router. It worked! I could print from it using my laptop. That was yesterday. Now for some reason it doesn't work. CUPS just says completed as soon as I send it. It can connect, because there are no error messages. Can someone help me fix this? I'm using the foo2zjs drivers from the AUR. I even made it print colour! I am really confused why this isn't working...
EDIT: Seems it works with Abiword...?? Yesterday it worked with my KDE4 apps and not Abiword. I'm confused!

The page looks perfect in preview and as a PDF. I can't print from the PDF, however, because it shrinks the text and expands the margins ...
Something's fishy. Save as PDF should result a file that looks exactly, precisely, like what you'd get if you printed directly to your printer.
I suspect your Word document has been corrupted by a few bytes of random data that is causing your printer to go nuts. Try cutting that portion out of the document, and pasting it in a new blank document so you can incrementally isolate the damage.
This isn't going to be as easy as it sounds, because when the PostScript printer driver encounters the errant code in the Word document, it's essentially telling the printer "now, go to the top of this page, print a nasty black smudge, and then crash." You might have to cut a whole page before and after the suspected corruption. If you're lucky you might be able to cut the portion then paste it right back as "unformatted text". Try that.

  • Unable to network print to HP Color LaserJet 2600n connected to Windows PC

I just got a new MacBook Pro and I am trying to print on my network to a HP Color LaserJet 2600n that is connected and shared on a Windows PC. I have carefully followed the instruction posted on http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html and I am still unable to print. I made sure the printer name on the remote PC has no spaces. After I enter (on my Mac) my user name and password to access the user account on the remote Windows PC, I get the following error message:
Unable to connect to server with the provided password and user name. Error: 256
    Please help! Thank you!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The Windows PC is running the Windows XP Firewall, the Avast Antivirus, and Windows Defender. I have deactivated all these applications and the issue persists.
I called Apple today (I am still in my 90-day free support since this is a new MacBook Pro). After some basic troubleshooting with a tier one rep, I was transfered to a tier 2 rep who told me after making sure that I was following the right steps to try to add the printer, that since the HP LaserJet 2600n printer is connected to a Windows XP computer, my set-up is not supported by Apple and declined continuing troubleshooting the issue. According to this person Apple will only support network printing when the printer is directly attached to a hub/router.

  • Color troubles printing to HP Color Laserjet 2600n

We are a school with a networked environment that includes about 40 Macbook Pros and 60 iMacs. Included in there are several eMacs and PCs. Over the past several weeks, our HP Color LaserJet 2600n printers have begun to exhibit printing where rather than the normal color printing, there appears to be added black toner on the print jobs. The PCs and eMacs are not exhibiting this problem at all, thus I eliminated the fuser possibility. I looked more at a potential driver issue.
These 2600n printers are shared out to the MBPs and iMacs via Workgroup Manager. They connect to these printers via Bonjour for printing. We do have an 802.11n wifi network with multiple SSIDs but no matter if it is cnonected over SSID or over wired gigabit ethernet, the problem still exists.
I tried printing via IP address, but the computers would not readily recognize the printers during setup, and when I manually selected the driver, the computers could not connect to the printer.
So, I am trying to figure out why all of a sudden these print jobs are exihibing severe color issues.

OK, I think I might have a solution. I have not tested it but I need to do a bit more research. What I have discovered is that it might be a Firmware issue. We found one that is still working fine and it actually has the older firmware numbered 20050610. The ones were are having the issues with are on firmware numbered 20070716.
I am going to see if I can revert the firmware... if I can find the older firmware!

  • Grayscale Printing with HP Color Laserjet 2600n Using OS 10.6

Like a lot of people, I've been frustrated with the (lack of) support and functionality with this printer since upgrading to Snow Leopard. But at least it's working.
    I have two questions:
    1. Even with the printer set to Grayscale, all of my pages come out in color. Does anyone have a solution to this?
    2. Has anyone found a good alternative printer to the 2600n that works well with Snow Leopard?
    Thanks everyone
    Steven

    Hi,
Firstly please check to see if your printer in the list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If YES, you can use this to fix/setup:
    iPad: http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/airprint/
    iPhone: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/airprint/
If NO you have to print using other apps (if applicable) such as
       http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/hp-eprint/id299531647?mt=8

  • Fresh install of 10.6.2 can't add HP Color LaserJet 2600n to printers.

    From the start:
Just got my laptop back from Apple (replaced mainboard) and decided to start over so I upgraded the HD to a 500 GB and reinstalled the System fresh. No personal files added yet. I also ran all of the Software Updates as normal and here it sites now with this problem when I went to add my printer:
The HP Color LaserJet 2600n is connected to the Airport wireless network by direct Ethernet cable to the router. The MacBook is connected via Wi-Fi.
Add Printer sees the HP printer via Default/Bonjour. Click it, name it, it already chose "HP Color LaserJet 2600n" for Print Using: (driver). At the very bottom it says in small print "The selected printer software is available from Apple. Click Add to download it and add this printer." I click add and immediately a pop up says "Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem. The selected printer software is available from Apple, but you are not connected to the Internet."
So I can't add the printer although I can see it! This is bogus. It worked before. And how could it "know" Apple has the driver if the Internet connection wasn't working? Well, the Internet connection IS working. That is the other part of this that makes no sense. It works fine. I'm on the very same connection right now typing this. Software Update gave me no issues using it going through Software Update and not the printer driver update part..
    What gives?

Can't help with the wireless muckup since I don't that. Two options. One, hook up directly, bypassing the wifi stuff, and try adding it. Or, two, download the update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907

  • HP Color LaserJet 2600n quit printing on an XP machine

Even though my HP Color LaserJet 2600n shows "ready" on my XP control panel screen for printers, it just quit communicating with my XP system. I have it connected via an Apple Time Machine and found it easy to connect to the printer from any computer in the house (desktops, laptop, netbook, Apple). It worked fine for a long time but now I can't get my XP system to connect to the 2600n. Anyone have a suggestion on what I should do to regain the ability to print to this printer from my XP desktop? Thanks in advance.
PS - Although I know this sounds wrong, I didn't install any new software or make any other changes to my system. It was printing fine yesterday and today - nothing! I've rebooted the PC and the printer. There are no error messages on the printer - it simply says "Ready". What am I missing?

Download and run this on the XP machine.  I suspect a security system update or change, but let's let the utility tell us.

  • Unable to print to an HP Color LaserJet 2600n in 10.4.11

Hi (I really, truly have gone through the other topics and can't find a solution).
I'm trying to print on a G3 iMac via USB to an HP Color Laserjet 2600n. The printer driver is not included with Apple, and when I went to download it from the HP site (complete package for G3 computers running OS 10.3 or 10.4) it says there are no files to mount. I downloaded the same thing for a G3 running Panther and it installed perfectly and that iMac prints to the 2600n without a problem. I then downloaded the driver for G4s using the 2600n onto the G3 running 10.4.11 and while it installed fine and the print setup recognizes the printer, the printer will not print. It goes through "starting job" gets to "processing job" and stays there forever. I was on Customer Support with HP, and as a result of installing the printer on my older iMac, we've deduced the problem must be with the software on the G3 that won't print (the one running 10.4.11)
I read somewhere that with this HP printer and some others the job gets processed on the computer itself and then is sent to the printer. Clearly, the iMac is not processing the job.
I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. etc. I don't know what to do. I installed Ghostscript et al, but there is no driver there for the 2600n. I've tried generic postcript and it doesn't work- in that case the print box goes for a few seconds and then says "printing stopped."
It's only this printer- this iMac with 10.4.11 prints to two other printers via a Bonjour network (an HP 2015 and an HP 2300n). But I'd like access to a color printer. Any thoughts? Any ideas? Why won't the complete G3 package install on this iMac when it will on the one running Panther? And why won't it process the print job?

I'm trying to print on a G3 iMac via USB to an HP Color Laserjet 2600n. The printer driver is not included with Apple, and when I went to download it from the HP site (complete package for G3 computers running OS 10.3 or 10.4) it says there are no files to mount. OK. So you began by trying to install the same package you installed on the Panther machine? It sounds as though the file got corrupted during the download if the system couldn't mount the disk image. Anyway, you then downloaded a different package for G4 machines and installed that on your G3 machine but this didn't work.
Are you sure about this? Do HP really have different packages for G4 and G3 Macs? If so, you will need the G3 package for a G3 Mac. Can you point me to the HP download page listing the drivers so I can take a look? That way I should be able to see exactly what you've tried so far.
OK, I found the page. There isn't a G4 package as such but the G3 one is supposed to run on Tiger so that is likely the one you need.
Is the printer's firmware up to date? I notice there's an update utility for it, too.
It goes through "starting job" gets to "processing job" and stays there forever. I was on Customer Support with HP, and as a result of installing the printer on my older iMac, we've deduced the problem must be with the software on the G3 that won't print (the one running 10.4.11)
This doesn't follow. It could be that HP's drivers don't work properly on Tiger but do on Panther. That could as easily be HP's fault as anybody else's. (It might not be their fault, but the fact that their driver works on Panther doesn't necessarily mean that driver - or another driver - will work on Tiger.)
I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, etc. etc. I don't know what to do.
When you uninstalled, how exactly did you remove the installation? Please give me as many details as you can.
I installed Ghostscript et al, but there is no driver there for the 2600n.
Why did you think installing GS might help? Ghostscript doesn't provide print drivers as far as I know (though it is involved - or can be involved - in printing processes).

  • HP Color LaserJet 2600n and HP IP Printing

I was having trouble configuring my HP Color LaserJet 2600n for HP IP Printing. The following steps resovled the problem. Perhaps others may find this useful.
I just purchased an HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer at CompUSA. I was able to successfully connect it to my network and print using Bonjour Printing (from all of my various iMac, iBook, PowerBook and MacBook computers), but was not able to configure it for TCP/IP printing. To solve the problem,
    1. I visited the HP website and downloaded new firmware for the printer:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us &prodNameId=446154&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=446153&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEn vOID=219
There are 3 files there, I downloaded and installed all of them in the following order:
    2. HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer Firmware Update Utility - for some reason, the firmware on my new printer was from 2005 even though HP had posted new firmware as late as Dec 2006.
    3. HP color LaserJet 2600n DC controller firmware update utility - a firmware update that addresses a ghost-image issue.
    4. HP Color LaserJet 2600n OS X Universal Binary Full Software Solution - an updated set of drivers.
After all firmware and software was successfully updated....
    5. I opened /Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility.app and click the "Default Browser" button at the top of the page.
    6. Clicked the "More Printers..." button at the bottom of the page.
    7. Set the popup at the top of the configuation pane to "HP IP Printing" and clicked the "Manual" button immediately below it.
    8. Entered the local network address for my printer (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) and clicked the "Connect" button. The rest of the information in the panel was automatically filled in for me.
    9. Clicked the "Add" button. The printer was added to the list of available printers in the Printer List, although the name of the printer is set to the ID that is configured in the printer firmware.
    10. Select the new printer (NPIA0853X in my case) and click the "Show Info" button in the Printer List toolbar. Move the popup on the dialog to "Name and Location" and enter an new name (e.g., "HP Color LaserJet 2600n").

Download and run this on the XP machine.  I suspect a security system update or change, but let's let the utility tell us.

  • LaserJet 2600n won't print Ms. Word doc, Publisher, nor excel. Sends paper thru, but no print on it.

My HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer won’t print a Microsoft Word document, nor a Microsoft Office Publisher, any longer. When I try printing a Word document in `either black or colors, the printer sends the paper through, but no print is on the paper. When I click “Properties” in the print dialog box, I get a pop-up window saying, “Word cannot bring up the properties dialog because the printer returned an error.”
I reinstalled the printer driver, and restarted my computer, but this did not help. None of the trouble shooting actions helped.
However, it does print from notepad. But when I tried to print a Ms Excel document, the error box said, “Current printer is unavailable. Select another printer.” And when try to print a pdf file, I get message, “Adobe Reader stopped working.”
    I use a 64-bit Toshiba Satellite P505 with Windows 7.
    Please advise.

I felt i had to come to help you if your problem was not solved.
I've a customer who just came up with this problem.  He is using Office 2003 on Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bits.  He is using also a Color LaserJet 2600n.  We just reinstalled his software on a new computer and we started experiencing "Current Printer Is Unavailable" in Excel.  When trying to access Page Setup, it was also giving us that same message, and
then we had a dialog listing every computer available.
We produced a PDF, tried to print from Acrobat Reader, it crashed too the same way you mentionned.
    Here's what happenned:
We first installed the driver available from HP web site
    We did some updates from Microsoft Web Site.  There was an optional hardware update for the LaserJet 2600n, so we installed it.  This update is completely {Language Filter Evasion}
Uninstall your printer driver (well, just remove it from your printer list)
Then reinstall it.  In our case, it was accessed thru IP.
When it was installing, it asked us to keep the same driver or REPLACE the driver...  pick-up REPLACE the driver!
And you are good to go...

  • Hp color laserjet 2600n, very dim grayish film when printing black only

For some reason, my hp color laserjet 2600n has started printing with a very dim grayish film over each page. I've had this printer for about a year, and it didn't do this at first. Does it no matter what program I print from. I'm sure it's a setting issue, but haven't been able to figure it out. Any ideas?
And, when I select to print in black only, it still prints the color on web pages. Is there a way to print from only the black cartridge? These are the options in the printer dialogue box under color: print in grayscale, black only, 4-color. Under these settings are other options, edge control, half-tone and RGB color. I've tried each setting individually and still the gray film. The only other possibility I can see is under Print Options, it has draft quality or image quality. I've tried both and still the film.
    Have any ideas.

    1. take out all of the ink cartriges and look at the big black roller on the door for streaking, if streaking, clean with a lint free cloth dampened with windex (window cleaner) then close the door.
    2. let it run to initializing.
    3. open the door and look and the black roller on the door to see if you have streaking. If no streaking put one cartridge in and close the door and repeat the steps until you find what cartridge is causing the problem.
I did this and found that my cyan was creating the lines on my paper. I cleaned the cyan roller with a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol and it works fine now, no more lines on the paper.
    Cheers

  • Networking a HP color laserjet 2600n printer on windows 7 (64-bit)?

    Hello,
Have an HP Color Laserjet 2600n printer and are running Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit). I installed >> HP Color LaserJet 2600n Plug and Play Package off of HP website [ http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=446154&p... ]. Have you plugged the printer into your router and does it have a proper IP address?  If so:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • Laserjet 2600n not printing black on one side of page. already cleaned the laser/scanner assembly.

laserjet 2600n not printing black on one side of page. already cleaned the laser/scanner assembly. i've cleaned the assembly a few times beofre to restor the colors as the printer is in a semi-dusti environment.  after cleaning the printer was fine, then about a week later, the black - and only the black - stopped printing on the right side of the page.  the text is straight across left to right then starts to waver and then then stops altogether.  i tried a different black toner cartidge and the problem remains.

    > so this is strictly a hardware issue as no drivers are involved. Yup. > Still prints all black.   Ok its not the controller. > Still prints all black.   Ok its not the fuser. >  its still prints all black. OK its not the laser itself > it still prints all black. Not that part either. > What else left is there?  Formatter board hasnt been mentioned.  Something is sending a command to the printer that is telling it to open up the doors and charge the entire page.  Normally the laser is responsible for charging the media.  As the media passes over the toner doors it atracts toner particles.  Then as the paper continues it rolls past the fuser where heat melts the particles into permanent place. > The power supply board maybe?   Perhaps but not likely.  If you have a spare you could try it but power supply problems usually result with the machine unable to boot or print correctly, not printing too much as you have described here. > Is there another part you would reccomend I look at?
You could try the old Halfway test just to verify that the problem is coming from teh laser/toner part of the printer.  http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/halfway-test Your paper may have somehow gotten a staic charge that opposes the charge of the toner, thus auto attracting all particles in range as it passes over the toner doors.  Might want to grab a fresh ream of paper to test and rule somethign crazy like that out. Not very many options left after that.
