Printing on watercolor paper - HP Deskjet 2050A (J510g)

I have failed to determine the best weight of paper for my printer. I want to print on watercolor paper 300grams in weight or less hence if this is capable of being done?

I realize that your post is older, but this may help others with similar issues and questions.
HP printers can use a variety of weights and types of paper. Refer to your user manual for helpful tips, but the easy answer is that that you should always use the highest quality paper available. Also, denser paper will give you a better result. I am concerned that watercolor paper is too porous to give you good prints and loose fibers might easily separate from the sheet and build up inside the printer—this can lead to paper jams.
Here is a short video that discusses picking and using the correct paper in your printer. Although it doesn't address watercolor paper, or your specific pritner model, it has some good general information.

  • Watercolor paper printing and longevity

I want to print on 90lb acid free watercolor paper with my HP 6520 photosmart printer (564 ink).  I wondered where I can I get information on how fade resistant and the longevity of the inks printing on this kind of paper?  I found information about printing on photo paper.  But that doesn't help me since I am printing on watercolor paper.  I would like to know if the print will face in a couple years or decades.  Thanks.

The expert in the subject of fade resistance is Henry Wilhelm, his site is here.  There are lots of articles there, you may find some information on fade on watercolor paper.  In general I would expect the fade to be worse than with photo papers.  Photo papers may have coatings that "seal" the print, improving longevity.  The 564 color inks are dye based.   The document here may help, you can probably find others as well on the Wilhelm site.

  • I am trying to print on filofax paper but wont print on HP deskjet 3070A

The guides only allow paper to be placed in the middle of paper selection, and only half of the printing comes out, half of the page is blank.   Its also very difficult to retrieve the shorter paper because the aperture where the paper is inserted is very narrow.   The pages for the filofax have to be turned over and printed on both sides.

    Hi Nontech,
I am not sure I understand exactly what you are doing; I will try and help.  I am a user, not an HP tech.
The manual suggests that you can adjust the side guides in the printer to accomodate paper sizes.  That said, there is nothing to be done about the tiny opening - the paper is supposed to be ejected when the print is completed.
The thickness of the paper used is very important.  I have discovered this the hard way myself.  Your printer won't have a selection for filofax paper; it should have a selection for something that perhaps you can pick that is as close to the same thickness as is possible.
    Deskjet 3070A B611 User Guide
See the section in the manual on "Recommended Papers for Printing" for a general description.
Using your printing Preferences for your printer, select the paper according to what is closest to the thickness of your "filofax" paper.  (EXAMPLE:  Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > highlight your printer > right-click > Preferences > Paper > Media)
If you can more closely match the actual thickness of the paper being printed, you might get a print of the whole sheet without it stopping half-way through the process:  The completed print might then feed all the way out of the printer as it should.
    Good Luck!

  • Hp deskjet 2050a install failing

I have a HP Deskjet 2050A that I am trying to install on Windows 7 (32bit).
It had been succesfully installed previously and I had been using the software, however at some point I was not able to access the printer and tried re-installing.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing several times using the CD, downloaded media from the Full feature software link and even the HP Print Scan Doctor, and Printer install wizard. They all fail with the attached message.
I  have also trying running Microsoft Fixit as per suggestion given in a similar Forum Post.
The installation is still unsuccesful when I retry.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi @jpke , and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you're experiencing installation issues.  I would like to help.
What is the installation error you are receiving?
I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Watercolor paper texture, Deckle Edge

Way back when I used to be able to use Photoshop to create a watercolor paper effect.  I believe it was the 'sandstone' filter.  I can't find it in CS5 or CS3 Extended, the only two Photoshop programs I have installed currently.  Does anyone know if this effect is now listed under a different name?
If not, any ideas on how far back it might have been, and is there a way I can add that filter effect from an old version to my current version of PS?
    thanks,
    Paz
A forum search turned up a tutorial on creating a deckle edge using the Ocean Ripple filter.  I'll give it a try.

my only sore point, a wide gamut monitor.  I wish it had a regular monitor, but since I can't change it, I'm trying to figure out how to live with it.
Just wanted to chime in here on this particular point and let you know I understand EXACTLY what you're feeling.   I have two sRGB monitors that are getting a bit long in the tooth, and I am not looking forward to having to replace them when one day they just don't come on...
    -Noel
    Noel,
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back here.  (migraine - then it slipped what mind I have left!)
The recommended resolution on this monitor is 1920 x 1200.  I decided to give it a lengthy trial and now that I have, I'm about ready to resort to something more reasonable.  At the recommended resolution, a 1000 pixel wide image is quite small.   Editing is in the details, of course,  and I need a magnifying glass to see 'em!  I know I could zoom in, but going past 100% hasn't worked well - for sharpening in particular.  Having given it a a truly good try, I'm going to opt for lower resolution in increments until I find my sweet spot.
Color is another problem.  This laptop has a built in colorimeter, with three options for saturation levels, but in my opinion, all the calibration choices are  oversaturated.  I tried my old(er) GretagMacBeth Eye One and it won't run on Win7, 64 bit.  So I tried turning OFF the built in color, used a Windows calibration setup very similar to the old Adobe Gamma and liked what I got pretty well.  At least whites on web pages weren't pink.
Unfortunately,  I discovered the laptop would revert to the built in calibrator's color space without letting me know and I messed up several images that will have to be done over.  Now I've completely disabled it, removed the built in calibration program. Obvioulsly, I'll need yet another, expensive calibration tool to get truly accurate color.  I'm still researching.
Oh, and yes, I know Firefox can be set up to read embedded color profiles, and that's what I use. Still, even with the basic color calibration, reds are quite saturated.  More than they are to the human eye.  Well, my human eye, anyway.  (I believe Macs have always been able to read embedded color profiles, if you're a Mac user.)  With the Windows calibration, using Firefox set up to read color profiles, I do NOT see differences in the first two images on this page:  http://www.gballard.net/photoshop/srgb_wide_gamut.html
    The third does change.
One wonderful thing is the brightness of this screen.  I'm sitting in the cockpit of my boat, under an awning, and reading this screen is no problem.  My former laptop's screen was a black hole out here.  Of course, setting brightness, when it can be so very bright, is a challenge in itself.  Especially since the angle of the screen needs to be perfectly balanced so what you see is the true image.  This viewing angle gauge video explains it very well.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbXnT82hdH0
So, good luck to you when that dreadful day comes.  If the internet ran on AdobeRGB, all would be fine.  And like I said, for printing, it appears what I see on screen will be closer than ever to my prints, especially with a 'vivid color' inkjet printer. (Epson.)

  • Can't print to correct paper size.

I am using an HP Deskjet 5440. I want to print to 4x6 paper. I go into iPhoto 6.0.6 and set up a picture to print on 4x6 paper (or so I think). I hit preview. It looks perfect. I hit print. It prints about an eighth of the picture (right proportions and all, as if it were going to look right on the paper) then stops and spits it out as if it's finished. Okay, I go into Photoshop Elements and try to print again using that program, this time it prints half the page correctly and spits it out after that. Then I go into Preview. It prints out 3/4 of the page correctly, but there is still white space on the page. What am I doing wrong? I would think that if it looked right in the "preview" mode, it would print out that way. Why is it not printing out to the full page. It's a landscape picture and I select landscape mode, I set it to fill a 4x6 page. In Page Setup I select 4x6 borderless printing. I just want it to look like it does in "preview mode." Can somebody please help me and tell me how to get it to print the entire image on the whole piece of paper? Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried what you suggested and it didn't work. I am getting more and more frustrated. I don't know what the problem is. It's affecting all my photo programs though. It's not only happening in iPhoto, but my new Photoshop Elements and in Preview. It just prints out half the picture on 4x6 paper, whether I select landscape or portrait. If I print the picture out on 8 1/2 x 11 it comes out okay in the middle of the paper in 4x6.
Here's more details. I scanned in a bunch of negatives on my new Epson Perfection V200 PHOTO scanner. I used the negative caddy to scan them in. I scanned them in using 3200 dpi and original size target. I imported all the pictures to iPhoto and tried to print some of them out. When I set it up using 4x6 borderless printing, it only printed the picture on half the paper. It looked as if it was going to print correctly, but for some reason the printing stopped at half the page. When I used the other landscape setting it printed out the OTHER half of the picture. So, now I can tape the two halves and make one picture, but not a real solution, is it?
So, I opened up Photoshop Elements, which I also just purchased. I tried printing from there and it still only printed a partial picture. The same result came from trying to print it from Preview. Although, sometimes, the printer goes through the motions of printing and then NOTHING is printed on the page.
Also, for some reason, the black and white photos come out looking as if they've been through some sort of filter, like "emboss" or something similar. What could be causing that?
Here is what I am using:
    Intel iMac 20 inch
    2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo
    2 GB of SDRAM
    256 Megs VRAM
    iPhoto 6.0.6
    Photoshop Elements 4.0.1
    HP Deskjet 5440
    Kodak Premium Photo Paper 4x6
I have tried various settings and I cannot get it to print on a full 4x6 page. Even when I use constrain or page setup or various combinations.
When I printed out large numbers of 4x6 photos on my old iMac G3 last year using the last version of iPhoto and the same HP Deskjet printer, they came out perfectly. They had been taken with a Kodak Digital camera.
Any help would be appreciated, I get more and more frustrated.

    Hi Anna,
I afraid the Deskjet 3050 (J610) does not support any web service as ePrint or Print Apps.
Only the Deskjet 3050A (J611) support ePrint as you may find listed below:

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.0 will not print SRA3 size paper

I created an Adobe InDesign file 320x450mm (SRA3) and saved it as a a High Quality PDF. However, when I print from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 with SRA3 paper size settings, it defaults to A4 and the printer will not register the SRA3 paper size request. The tech from Canon updated the printer driver which increased print dialog options such as Paper Handling, Paper Source etc. (which I didn't have before) and spent over an hour running tests. We both agreed there was a software issue since there were not issues from other software:
I can print SRA3 files from InDesign and Microsoft Word, but not Adobe Acrobat Pro.
This is an ongoing problem since I often receive artwork in PDF format at this size.
My workaround is to place the PDF into InDesign, line up the crops by eye and print to SRA3 paper which works fine until I need to do a double sided print which becomes slightly innacurate and often time consuming.
    Canon printer driver specs:
    V2.0
    iR-ADV C5045/5051 PS (UK)

What happens if you select other paper sizes? Also ensure that 'choose paper source by PDF page size' is not checked at your print dialog.
Kindly let us know your results and if possible please forward us your pdf at [email protected]
Looking forward to help you out.
    Thanks

  • How to print on photo paper with HP Photosmart 7520 on iphoto '11

    Dear All,
I have a very serious problem. I've tried so many settings and configurations without success.
Very simple. I cannot choose the photo tray in any way and I cannot print on photo paper.
I get everything on A4 format.
The printer is working fine wih other software (e.g. HP studio).
    I can't believe I'm the only one.
    Please help!
    tks ;-)

    Hi,
I came across such issues using AirPrint from Mac OS.. probably an Airprint bug.
Go to Print & Scan and click the plus sign.
From the extended add a printer dialog select the Photosmart 7520.
Open the Use drop-down and select the HP Photosmart 7520 from teh list (Instead the default AirPrint option)
Additionally from the iPhoto print dialog click Print, the OS print dialog will appear.
Set the Paper Source as Photo Tray under the Paper Type/Quality menu.

  • Using windows 7, how do I get my Officejet Pro K8600 to print to 13x19 paper?

I purchased a laptop with Windows 7. Now I cannot get my Officejet Pro K8600 to print correctly to 13x19 paper. It prints onto 13x19 paper but everything is 8.5 x 11 in size. I click print, click properties, change the paper to Super B 13x19, hit ok, the box shows the 13x19 paper with the images filling the paper, I click ok for it to print and it prints the image 8.5 x 11 in size on the 13x19 paper instead of filling the 13x19 paper. I did not have this trouble (and still don't) with my old laptop with XP. Is it the operating system or is it a wrong setting in properties? I have tried to compare the properties settings in both computers, but I cannot find any differences. I don't think it's the driver....please help!

    Hello HW,
Try this: go to Devices and Printers and right-click on the Officejet Pro K8600 and click on Printer Properties. Go to the tab called Advanced and click on the button called Print Processor. Select Winprint and click OK. Try another printout and see if it works now. If you still see the same issue see if there's a scaling option on the print dialogue in the application you're printing from.

  • Problem printing on dot-matrix printer with continuous paper

    Post Author: kdebruyckere
    CA Forum: .NET
    Hi,
We're currently developping an .net application for a customer of ours in VS2005 (c#). I used crystal reports for VS2005 to create an invoice.
The invoices have to be printed on a dot-matrix printer with continuous paper (Brother M-4318). When an invoice is only one page long, there's no problem. Even when printing several sigle-page invoices after another, all goes fine. The problem occurs when an invoice is more then one page longe. The first page comes out correctly, but on the following pages everything moves ca. 3 mm upwards (3 mm on the second page, 6 mm on the third page, and so on...). On the report 'Design > Printer Setup', I selected the right printer, the right paper size, ... On the report there's a page header (consisting of two sections), and there's a page footer that is only printed on the last page, but there are no report header and no report footer.
I can not figure out what seems to be the problem. Has anyone else had this or a similar problem before? If so, please let me know. Any suggestions are welcome.
    thx

Continuous paper is a little bit longer than normal A4 paper. I found only one way to set it: ReportDocument.PrintOptions.PaperSize =CrystalDecisions.Shared.PaperSize.PaperFanfoldStdGermanI had no success, setting continuous papersize by printer setup.  ... waiting for CustomPaperSize-Property (like CustomPaperSource)... • The printer wont print on photo paper why is that

The printer keeps printing on paper instead of photo paper

How are you sending the print job, and what file type are you trying to print? I know airprint and eprint base the paper type on what file type is printing. If its from a computer you will have to specify in the print settings what paper to use.
