Printing on window-based printers

I have a home network it is a linksys system I have a desk top, two lap tops all running xp. I have a HPall-in-one 750xi and a HP photosmart 8750. Each is on a wireless print server. all xp machines can print to either printer without problems. I can't get the mac book to recognize the priters and print from them. I did get the mac to print from the 8750 when directly connected but not through the print server. The mac can acess the internet fine through the network. I can't seem to acess any of the other network resources with the mac. I did call apple support which wasn't very helpful. They want to say it's a windows issue but the windows side of things seem fine to me. They also tried to make it seem as though trying to print from a mac to windows printers is difficult and that people don't try to do it frequently. I'm new to mac I jumped in when apple started touting it's compatablilty with windows networks- Isn't this a basic function (printing) in a network that should be possible if one wishes to call macs compatable with windows networks?

You may need to use a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Setting up and Printing to Windows Domain Printers

    Hi Guys,
I have a Windows Domain currently running here at work. I am running a print server on one of our Windows 2003 Servers.
I have successfully joined 4 Mac Pro machines to the domain. They are all logging on to the domain and can access shares etc.
My problem is that I wish to add the networked printers that appear on the domain print server to the Mac Pros.
When i go to System Preferences > Print and Fax then click the + button. I see a list of all the printers that are exclusively installed on the Windows Print Server.
Some are listed in the Add Printer window as Bonjour and some Open Directory. The Bonjour items I can add fine, its the Open Directory ones that are causing me problems.
How can I add these printers to each machine without manually installing the drivers for each printer on each Mac. Why am I seeing some Bonjour listed printers and some that are not?
Any help would be very much appreciated

Some are listed in the Add Printer window as Bonjour and some Open Directory. The Bonjour items I can add fine, its the Open Directory ones that are causing me problems.
How can I add these printers to each machine without manually installing the drivers for each printer on each Mac.
The answer depends on what printer description language (PDL) these Windows shared printers support. If they are Postscript then it is possible that a PPD for the printer may already exist on the Mac and so all you need to do is select it from the Print Using menu. And if the PPD is not present then you can still select Generic Postscript. But the thing to note is that since you are sharing the queue from Windows, rather than connecting directly to the printer (as you are doing with the Bonjour printer) then the Mac does not know what the printer is so you still need to manually select the correct printer on the Mac.
If the printer is not Postscript and requires a proprietary printer language then would have to manually install this driver on every Mac. And even with this driver installed on the Mac there is no guarantee that it will work via the Windows share. Many vendor drivers are written for direct communication to the network printer. Sticking a Windows queue in between stops the Mac driver from communicating with the printer and this in turn stops the Mac from printing. So if you can tell us what printer models you have then we can provide better information.
Why am I seeing some Bonjour listed printers and some that are not?
Not all network printers support Bonjour. Often only newer models of business printers support this protocol, while it is more prevalent in consumer printers. And what you are seeing is a multicast coming directly from the printer. So if you don't want the users to bypass your Windows print server and connect directly to these printers, then you may not want them broadcasting their presence.
But the benefit of the printer using Bonjour is that they are able to communicate with the Mac what they are and this helps with the Mac determining which printer driver to use,  so as you have noted the setup for the Bonjour printer on Mac is easy, because it helps the help with selecting the correct driver.
Hope this helps with your questions. Please reply if you need more information

  • How to print on Windows Shared Printer

As I search in Google I found that there are many question about hot to print on windows shared printers. This is the way....
Before you add your windows shared printers in you Mac, sometimes you can not find your printer driver. The only way is directly connect your windows shared printers to you Mac, and connect your Mac to internet. After that your mac will automatically download printer driver. Now you have to add windows shared printers to your mac (this is part is easy..I'm not going to explain this...), and after you select the right driver you still can NOT print to windows shared printers ? You already have user & password for PC that connected to the windows shared printers...but nothing happened in your printer...
    Soooo.....
All you have to do is :
    1. Go to system pref on mac
    2. Click on sharing - thick on "file sharing"
    3. Go to "option" and then thick on "share files & folders using AFP" & thick on "share files & folders using SMB (windows)"
    4. Dont forget to thick on you account name below...
    5. You're good to go...
    6. Please note that you have to know the PC Windows user & password that connected to the shared printer.

    Hello Greg & Hello PAHU...
Yesterday everything is fine for printing to windows shared printer. But after I update my XP, problems came up again....
And thanks to your link Greg, you are absolutly right about the driver...the problem is the driver...
And your link is solving  my problem (until know....) and you are right too PAHU, without thicking File Sharing feature in my Mac, I still can printing with windows shared printer...
And with this reply I admitted that my information above maybe wrong, and the real solver to my problem is to install gutten-print driver :http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
Thanks guys you're the best...now I live happily with my MBA

  • HT3669 Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. Can someone please advise me how I get the printer to work with my i-Mac? I have installed it but documents don't print. Thanks

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?
    Thanks, John Lee

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

  • Using apple base station now, but the other 3 windows based computers couldn't find the printer connected to apple base station

When I am trying to add a new printer on my iMac, the search result will show:
    HP Photosmart C6200 series
and there is no problem to add this printer to the iMac.
But when I am trying to add a new printer on my other windows based computers, the search result will show nothing. So I shared the printer on my iMac, and the search result will show:
    HP Photosmart C6200 series @ XXXXX's iMac
and there is no problem to add this shared iMac printer to the windows based computers.
I just don't understand. Can anyone explain this to me?
    Thanks a lot.
    Karen

You and at least one other that I know of locally. All this happened after the latest Airport update.
Interestingly, last week, three of us who use Mac laptops were unceremoniously dumped from our small office network's wireless router (non-Apple). When we tried to reconnect it kept asking for a password - none of the PC users are having this problem - and I HATE that!! Before this we all connected immediately with no problems.
I'm still running my home-based Airport Extreme Base Station and Airport Express on a non-passworded network - the only way we can get online, still.
Hope Apple wakes up and realizes there are a few problems with this release.

  • Printing through Windows on Mac with printers set up on Time Capsule?

I have my printer hooked up to Time Capsule and can print from my Macbook to it no problem. I would like to print from Windows (on my Macbook through Fusion) to the same printer. How do I install that printer in Windows? Do I need to use Bonjour since the printer is already on my network? The printer does not show up in Windows at all right now.
    Thanks much

I managed to work through this problem in 2 different installations.
In one case Bonjour did find the printer in the Bonjour Add Printer Wizard(an Epson CX-5000)
In the second case - a Brother MFC-6800 - the printer did not show up as a choice in the Bonjour Add Printer Wizard.
You might check that the drivers for the printer that is attached to the TC are installed on the Windows system.
In this case I know the Brother drivers were installed but they don't seem to support a remote print server set up. However, the Bonjour Add Printer Wizard offered 2 choices - a generic PCL and a generic PS printer. I chose the generic PS printer and that worked....
Printing with a print server - which is what we're talking about here - is something that some printers do better than others. In my experience some printers, particularly their Windows drivers, sort of do their own thing which isn't conducive to playing by the rules which is important with print servers.

  • F4280 wireless printing windows 7 64-bit, not showing printer in "devices and printers"

    Hi,
I am a little confused. Today I installed windows 7 64-bit on my acer 9423wsmi notebook. I installed my hp f4280 via a usb cable. It prints and scans. Now I try to install my wireless kit (came with the printer) which worked fine an vista 32-bit sp1. I looked up every driver etc. on hp.com and found the install guide for windows 7. Everything went as described and printing works even without the pc adapter. You might say what is the problem. Well I noticed the wireless (copy) isn't listed under "devices and printers". I found this a bit strange. I tried to install a printer via the windows wizard. But using the network option gives me the shared copy. And using a the usb02 virtual port to which the printer is connect yields the same result: a fully working printer but nowhere to be found in "devices and printers". I searched the internet for a solution but my search results get cluttered with support for the installation.
    My questions:
Is this normal on this system with these settings?
Is there a way to let the printer appear in "devices and printers"?
    Kind Regards
    Carnelain

    Hi Flash,
I still haven't fixed the problem. I assume you found this installation guide. If I follow this I still can't see the printer in "device and printers". But when I open a document (notepad, word) I can see the printer listed in the printer dialog. So I am able to print. Printer properties are a bit hard to reach but it works. I am still hoping some wizz kid from hp to come up with a solution . Keep me posted if you know something more.

  • Printing on kyocera's printers wiht acrobat pro XI on windows server 2008 R2

    hello there,
    Most of our users work
from a TSE server with windows server 2008 R2.
Since we installed acrobat pro XI, it is impossible to print on all our Kyocera printers.
We also use HP, Konica Lexmarlk printers without problems.
    Do you have a solution?
    Thank for your advices.

    Hi Jeffery,
    Thank you for your comment.
Yeah, you can use universal print driver by configuring Remote Desktop Easy print on RDS Server. Install the driver on RDS server. Now to configure Easy print you need to have minimum client RDP 6.1(But suggest you to install RDP 8.1), .Net Framework 3.5 or
    above and RDSH role.
Also under GPO setting need to check below settings.
Do not allow client print redirection: Disable
Use Terminal Service Easy print printer driver first: Enable
Computer Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Printer redirection
For more information, you can refer below articles.

  • I HAVE A MAC NETWORK WITH A HP LASER-JET AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE.  I ALSO HAVE A WINDOWS BASED MACHINE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO PRINT TO AS WELL.  HOW CAN I ACCOMPLISH THIS?

I HAVE A MAC NETWORK WITH A HP1200 LASER-JET AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE.  THE PRINTER IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY WITH ONE OF MY MAC-MINI"S.  I NOW HAVE A WINDOWS BASED PC AND WOULD LIKE TO PRINT TO IT AS WELL.. HOW CAN I DO THIS?

Make sure that you Printer Sharing enabled on the Mac Mini.   System Preferences > Sharing > Printer Sharing
Do the same on the PC
On the PC, try downloading and installing Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2
Run the application on the PC to see if it will discover your printer and install the printer.

  • Can't print from Windows Explorer

After installing the "HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a", on a Windows 7 64-bit PC, that is Ethernet connected, I get the following error message:
    Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 2061
    Char: 1
Error: Invalid procedure call or argument
    Code: 0
    URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.js
When I try to print from Windows Explorer; however, I can print from other applications such as Word and Quicken OK, and I can print from Explorer OK from a Windows XP PC. Anyone have any suggestions?

The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it.  Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
    1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
    2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
    3) Reboot
    4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
    5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
    6) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out).
Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Cannot print from windows 8.1

I bought an HP Deskjet 1512, installed from the disk provided. The printer would not print via USB from my PC (Dell XPS 12 laptop). However 3 other computers with the same printers worked.  A MacBook pro installed from the disk and it worked. Other windows based computers were able to print.
I have used the Scan & Print doc:  I was able to run through that and found nothing and from that software I can print a test page.
When I go into Printer Properties, I cannot print a test page.
I have uninstalled all the HP software, downloaded all the latest drivers, did a reboot and re-installed all the drivers.
When I print from word it looks as if it prints and it goes to the print queue for a split second and dissapears as if transmitted to the printer and the printer does nothing.
The USB cable is less than 6'
The printer did its line up/test print
    Help!

    Hi @gotchabuccs,
I will happily help you get your Deskjet 1512 printer working with your PC running WIndows 8.1.  I understand you can print from all other computer, but despite your efforts you can not get this computer to print, other than test prints from either the Printer Properties, or the Print and Scan Doctor.

  • Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine

WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
    Thanks.

We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB.  We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working.  So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work.  It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside.  No firewalls on the pcs.
Not sure where to go from here...
