PRINTING OS 9-CLASSIC APPLICATIONS

I can't print my Adobe Photo Deluxe pictures which are classic OS 9. I continue to get messages to use my HP printer utility, add a printer, etc. I do all of these things, but when I go to print nothing happens. The print monitor identifies my printer, Photosmart 7350, but when I recheck the printer monitor, it tells me that the printing has been stopped.
I could really use some help as I need to print out a birthday card for my daugter whose birthday is in 2 days.
Thanks

David,
Welcome to Discussions.
Presumably you created these pictures in PhotoDeLuxe (in OS9 or in Classic within OSX?) and now can't print from PhDL in Classic within OSX.
Do you have to print from PhDL? Have you tried printing from another application such as GraphicConverter, Preview or a word processor?
PhDL is now really very ancient - even I gave up using it years ago and I'm a very late adopter. You might want to consider something like GraphicConverter (shareware with free trial) or Photoshop Elements.
+Ken - PhDL was a basic photo-editing app like a very simple version of Elements which Adobe gave up in 2002.+

  • Problems printing with older Classic applications using OS 10.4.8

Newly installed OS 10.4.8. Unable to print from older applications using OS 9.2.2 Classic capability. Error Messages: (1) Not Apple Event Aware. (2) Desk Top Print 2.0 not installed. What is my remedy?

Using latest driver for HP5M printer in both Classic and OSX modes. Printing is OK in all applications except Avery Label Maker and MacProLabel Maker which are very old applications. I didn't have this problem with OS10.2.8. I get the same identical error messages for each as previously stated. I had a similar printing problem with Claris Draw but no error message. I reformatted my old Claris files and now can print.

  • BJ Printer Utility needs Classic stopped

I have a Canon i450 printer connected to my iBook G4 via USB. When I use the BJ Printer Utility to perform maintenance tasks like checking/resetting the ink level, cleaning heads, or changing printer settings, it usually doesn't work when Classic is running. It pops up:
    Error Number: 19
Utility function cannot be used because the printer is performing processing. Make sure the printer has finished the processing, and try again.
I usually leave Classic running in the background all the time, so it's annoying having to shut it down just for this. Is there some setting in Classic I can change so that it won't interfere?
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

If the printer requires OS X 10.3.9, there is no driver available to run it natively in OS 9 or in Classic mode in OS X. To print from a Classic application in OS X, there must be an OS 9 driver for the printer, and yours has none. The best you will be able to do, as far as printing from your Classic apps is concerned, is save the files they create in a file format that one of your OS X-native applications can open, and print them from that application.
Preview can open native Photoshop files, JPEGs, PICTs and TIFFs, so you can save images from Photoshop in any of those formats and be able to print them from Preview. If your Quark files can be saved as PDFs or EPS files, Preview can open those, too.

  • How to force Tiger to print doc within Classic environment, not with OSX?

I want to print certain documents using OS9's printing utility within the Classic environment, and NOT using Tiger's standard OSX printing method. How?
I know it is possible because I have two Macs connected to the same printer, and it works on one and not the other. I can't figure out why.
    Here are the specifics:
I have a printer, the Ricoh Laser AP2600. Connected to it are two computers:
    a PowerBook G4 running 10.4.7, and
    an iMac running 10.3.9.
When I print documents from OSX applications, the two computers take the exact same time to print. HOWEVER, when I print from Classic applications, the iMac running 10.3.9 prints very quickly, but the PB running 10.4.7 takes two to three times as long. That's because the iMac prints the document using the old OS9 "Print Monitor" printing utility, and never passes the printing back to Tiger. Whenever I try to print a document from a Classic application on the PB, however, it passes the printing to the standard OSX printing method, which (for some reason) is much slower.
(Sorry if I'm not using the right terminology.)
I checked and double-checked, and as far as I can tell, all the "printer descriptions" and "drivers" and everything else is absolutely identical in both System 9 "Extension" folders on both computers. I installed the exact same Ricoh print-driver packages for OSX and Classic on both machines identically. So -- why does one print quickly within Classic, and the other pass the printing job back to slow OSX?
The specific application that causes this discrepancy is MSWord 5.1a, a very old version that only works under Classic. (I use it a lot because I prefer it to more recent versions of MSWord.)
A secondary, but related, question: Why does printing documents from within the Classic environment go so much more quickly than in OSX? It seems to be one of the few aspects of OSX that's worse than OS9.
So -- how can I make my PB behave like my iMac? Is there some difference between 10.3.9 and 10.4.7 that causes this different behavior? Any hints or suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

OK, I have finally solved the problem -- mostly.
The trick was to click on the Chooser option called "PSPrinter" -- not LaserWriter 8 or any of the others. I took a chance on that since I knew that the Ricoh 2600 was a PostScript printer. When I clicked on it, and chose "Set up printer," I was able to set up the Ricoh driver. Then, when I tried printing, it worked -- it printed within the Classic environment, not in Tiger. And what a difference!! Under Tiger, a simple page of text takes 45 seconds to process and print. Under Classic, the exact same page processes and prints in 8 seconds! A huge difference. So, I finally got it to work.
The downside is that I can't get it to "stick." If I restart Classic (or the entire computer), the next time I go back to print in MSWord 5.1a (my Classic application), it will have reverted back to the Tiger method of printing. So, the first time I print a page in 5.1a during any session, I have to go to Chooser and select PSPrinter. This adds 15 seconds or so to the process, so printing a single page overall isn't any faster, if you add up all the steps. Subsequent prints all are done quickly in Classic automatically, as long as Classic hasn't restarted. (I can even quit the application and restart it without a problem -- only an OS restart causes it to revert back to Tiger printing.)
So, my basic problem is solved, and I'm fairly satisfied. But I still have two nagging issues that I wouldn't mind answered if anybody knows the answers:
How can I make my Chooser printer selection in Classic "stick" permanently from one restart to the next? Why does it revert to Tiger printing after a restart?
And the fundamental question: why is Classic printing so much faster than Tiger printing? I thought Tiger was supposed to be a "digital hub" that made communicating with peripherals so easy? In most ways it is, but why is printing the one way in which OSX is WORSE than OS9, at least in regards to speed?

"The first is to repair 9 permissions in Panther's Disk utility"
This solutions worked a treat for me!
I'm so pleased you posted these easy-to-get-my-head-around solutions.
as i said, i first verrified the permissions, then i repaired the permissions.
I did both of these right from the disk utility. now starting up os classic works properly, and printing to both machies, over usb and ethernet works fine. i needed to re-add the ethernet prnter and do a small amount of finagleing to get the drivers to match, but that was not too difficult. the USB part was easy of course, because it's the only item attached using that cable; and there was no real networking to be concerned with.
honky, do try the suggestions posted, because they really were quite painless. and after days of panicking, they are a welcome resolution.

  • Print a report from Application Express direct to a CUPS Printer

Hi all, I'm new to this technology, is it possible to print a report from Application Express directly to a CUPS Printer? Can someone tell me in laymans terms how to do it? I find the terminology and documentation less than helpful.

    Jeremy,
BI Publisher handles submitting reports directly to a CUPS printer. However, the APEX integration doesn't currently integrate with that portion of BI Publisher.
    Here's an options:
Use the Java API of BI Publisher to build a custom Java program that would do this for you. Delivering to CUPS is part of the Java API.

I'm currently doing conversion of the All the Classic Report with addition of Header with 'LOGO'.
I'm willing to find out that Function (CALL FUNCTION 'WWW_GET_MIME_OBJECT') is only able for display but not show out during printing.
Is that any method, I can do it(Print with Logo) without conversion to SAP Script or Smartform that was exhausted.

    Thank you all in advance

    Hi,
It is possible to include logo in classical report but its not possible to print logo in classical report. It can be done in ALV's.
Write  the code in Top-of-page event in ALV.
The following is the code for inserting the logo in ALV.

What system are you running?  Have you tried going to the Canon website to download and install the latest drivers for that model?
    Are you running Time Machine?

  • Help! Why do my Classic applications refuse to run?

I don't know if this is the best forum for this problem but hopefully someone here will either be able to help me or tell me where I can look for help. I have been using Classic mode with my G5 to run Microsoft FrontPage, which I use for my website. For the last 8 months everything worked fine, but recently I have encountered some problems that I don't know how to deal with. When I try to launch Frontpage Explorer I get the message "server timed out". If I try to go straight to Editor I can open individual pages, but when I try to save the page I get the message "out of memory". At that point I not only have to save the page without changes, but the page is then erased!
I have tried the following. First I removed the OS9 system folder from the G5. Then I removed the FrontPage application. I shut down the computer and after restarting I reinstalled the OS9 folder and the FrontPage app. However, the results are identical. Fortunately I have the web pages backed up in several locations so I have not yet lost any data, but I am no longer able to update my website, which is a critical part of my business.
Does anyone have any ideas for anyting else I can try? Could this be some sort of virus? Everything else seems to work fine, only my Classic application has been affected.
    G5 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Another "symptom" to report. I decided to use my old G3 that also has Frontpage installed to update my site. But I got the exact same error messages! I even booted the G3 in OS9, but still was unable to launch Frontpage; or to be more accurate I was unable to get Frontpage to open up my web pages.
I thought that perhaps the number of webpages I had stored was too much for Frontpage to handle, so I moved ~90% of the pages to a separate folder and then put the folder in a different hard drive. No luck, same results.
I did try rebuilding the desktop on both the G3 and G5, but it made no difference. Any suggestions will be very gratefully accepted!

I have deleted the podcast app from my phone but on my Mac in iTunes->iPhone->Apps it shows up albeit with a button labelled "Install".
