Printing over wireless & wired network.  3 Macs.

I think you can do this not sure. I've got the AirPort Express connected to a wired router for internet. The printer is plugged into the AE. How do I get the other two Macs (connected to router; wired) to add the printer? Is this possible? Thanks.

I have a similar setup -- DSL router in basement wired to 4-port hub in attic -- from this hub, wired to an iMac (OSX 10.2.8), an eMac (10.2.8), and an AirPort Express. iBook (10.3.9) connects via AirPort, as does a new Dell laptop (I had no choice) running XP Pro.
Macs had been sharing printer (Epson Stylus C42) connected to the eMac, but I decided to move printer to the AirPort Express.
iBook and Dell both succesfully print to the AirPort connected Epson.
The eMac sees the printer, but everytime I try to print, "Processing Job" gets about 1/2 way thru, then Job stops. Restarting in Print Center gets same result again.
The iMac doesn't even see the printer (Add Printer -- Rendevous, shows empty window). So -- the hardwired computers are still a problem. (Restarts did not help).
Any ideas greatly appreciated!

  • HP LaserJet Pro m201dw suddenly not printing via ethernet (wired) network using Mac OS 10.10.1

    Hi,
My brand-new HP LaserJet Pro M201dw is suddenly not cooperating when I go to print using my Mac. I had it set up following the directions which closest matched my OS and it worked perfectly for one week; today suddenly it won't cooperate. The printer is seen on the network. I have deleted and re-installed it from my System Preferences several times. I have rebooted my computer. I cannot seem to get it to work. Even the HP Utility is having difficulty. The HP Utility is suddenly slow and often needs to be force-quit as it hangs when I navigate to other applications (web browser, etc.) while waiting for it to respond to clicks. Most often the HP Utility shows the printer in the status ara as "Device Status: Unknown" and "Supplies: Unknown" which it wasn't having issues with yesterday.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this device? Is there better documentation than the basic setup page here on HP? What about adjusting some setting in the printer web page (which I can access) - is the answer in there?
    Thank you.

    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    Try printing again.

  • Printing to shared windows printer over wireless network

    Hi,
I just bought my wife a MacBook and recently updated it to Leopard (OS X 10.5). I have a Lexmark X5150 printer connected to a desktop PC running Windows XP. I can share files between the two computers no problem either wirelessly or through an ethernet connection through my router. But, I'm having troubles accessing the shared printer through the Macbook wirelessly. If I connect the printer directly to the Macbook, I can add the printer with appropriate drivers no problem. However, when I try to add the printer as Windows shared printer, the appropriate driver doesn't show up in the drop down list. I can navigate to and find the printer over the network fine, but I just can't find the right driver. I'm a newbie to Mac and was wondering if there is anyway to find the driver using Finder or something similar to determine where it physially resides on the Mac. I know it's there because it is automatically selected when I directly connect the printer to the Macbook and add the printer. Any thoughts??

Couldn't figure things out, so I'll just stick with connecting the printer directly to the macbook.

  • Problem with printing over wireless network

    Hello. I have a HP psc 2410 all-in-one printer.
I've recently bought a modem router which has a capability called"printer-server" and I decided to use this feature and print over wifi. I set it up but with a problem. when I print something, for instance, test page, instead of printing just one page, It will print "test page" in 3 pages( something like partial pages and which the last=third page is printed blankly) and then It freezes(printer screen shows "printing" and I have to cancel the job, otherwise it freezes and I have to replug it). I have this trouble not just in test page but at least from IE, office, PDF files. This problem is essentially about Wifi, since If I connect the printer directly to the PC or laptop via usb, it works absolutely fine. also I have tried printing with different laptops over wifi but no go. below are more information which I have to mention:
1)Router is on WPA-PSK encryption type.
2)There is no mac-filtering or hiding SSID going on.
3)one laptop and an iPad is connected to router via wifi and a PC which is connected by LAN cable.
4)The printer IP address is the same as Router's settings page IP address.(192.168.0.1)
5)I can't open the printer's internal web page by entering the printer's IP address in browser since it's the same as router IP address.
6)Firewall on my laptop( windows 7  32-bit) is off and I'm using no Anti-virus.
    7) I have tried HP PRINT AND SCAN DOCTOR, but it says the printer is OK.
    thanks
    Leland
EDIT: after investigating for hours, I finally managed to get rid of freezing problem. now there is just one problem of that partial printing which happens coincidentally over wifi! I mean, sometimes it happens and sometimes not!
any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it

The bottomline is that this printer has no way of connecting other than a straight USB connection.   In order to make it wireless you have to have a device that will give it an network IP address.  The printer by itself can not do this.
The only way to get this printer on a network is to buy a SEPERATE USB Printer Server.   Or, buy a separate router, like I said, that has a USB connection on the back that will support printers.
You can not connect it the way you want as it stands right now.
However, call your ISP and have them set it up IF their Gateway device has a USB connection and really can support a printer.  It is their issue.

  • Can't connect wireless printer to wired PC in wireless/wired network

We have HP Officejet 6500A Plus (E710n-z) printer
Wireless router with 4 ethernet connections (SAGEMCOM 2864) - some pcs connect wirelessly and we have 3 connected via ethernet (network has several printers, 2 netbooks, IPad, 2 laptops and 4PCs currently configured - but with 5 active users it changes frequently)
Am able to connect printer to wireless PCs, laptops, etc - but cannot connect to wired PCs (running windows XP-home version)
I'd like to avoid forcing IP address for printer (everything else is automatic)  - Is there another workaround?
I do have another printer connected wirelessly to both wireless and wired PCs
Install / troubleshooting software assumes network is either all wired or all wireless
I don't mind using fixed IP address for install, but prefer not to use for ongoing connections
    Thanks for your help

PS - one computer has problem with "serscan.sys" file not found - this can, I believe, be resolved once I find download *since no longer have the windows XP install discs

    Hi Nancy,
Have you tried running the HP Netwrok Diagnostic Utility, which is available at www.hp.com/go/tools?  I no longer have a WinXP machine so I can't verify that it works on WinXP but, assuming it does, it could help you diagnose the problem.
Regarding using a static IP address, it is a really good idea (especially since it sounds like you know how to assign one to your printer).  It even helps to have a static IP once things are up-and-running because it generally prevents your PC's from losing contact with the printer.

  • Scan to printer over wireless network

    Hi there,
I have the pixma mx882 printer and it is configured over my wireless network. I am trying to locate the scanning software that enables me to scan via the wireless network?.
I tried the MP Navigator EX V4.1.3, although it says I need to connect the printer via USB. I presume there is a way to scan back to my Windows 7 PC via the wireless config I have?
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/office_all_in_one_inkjet_prin...
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi motoq79,
With MP Navigator EX installed and the printer setup on the network, you may need to configure a few additional things to be able to scan over the network.
We have an excellent article on our Knowledge Base that details all the setup that is necessary to scan over the network.  To view the article, CLICK HERE.

  • Printing over wireless connection

How would you set up a powerbook to print over a wireless connection? I set up a wireless network for my mom (she had a Dell Inspiron8600) when I passed on my PowerBook to her. Wireless internet connection is working fine. The main unit connected to the modem is the Inspiron. I can't seem to figure out what I have to do to get the PowerBook to print. If someone could walk me through the setup process I would sure appreciate it! The printer hooked up to the Inspiron is an HP Deskjet 5470. It is not being recognized by the PowerBook.

Make sure you have the latest drivers on your Mac and make sure the printer is shard on your pc. Go to system preferences on your mac click on "printer/fax" click on the + sign. Then go to "more printers" then find your printer on your network.
This technique has gotten my mac to communicate with my printer, but not actually print but maybe it will be successful for you.

  • How do I make my printer work wirelessly from my Apple Mac?

I have recently changed my router.  I have an Apple Mac and a Canon Pixma MP620 printer. I can't seem to set it up so that the printer works wirelessly. The old router is still listed on the printer so I need to change that first. Can anyone help?

If you open System Preferences, Printers and Scanners, then the Canon Printer Options and Supplies, do you have a button for Open Printer Webpage?  You should be able to do the setup of the printer, that is change the network settings, from there.

  • Having trouble printing over a home network to a Canon S9000 from iMac

    Hello there,
I recently bought a iMac and am having trouble printing to my Canon S9000 over my home network. If I hook up the printer to the iMac I can print to it, but the PC that is also hooked up to the network can't. If the printer is hooked up to the PC, the PC can print to it, but the iMac can not.
I downloaded the S9000 driver from Canon and installed it on the iMac. Then brought up the printer in system preferences. I found my printer OK, but I can't seem to find the S9000 driver in the list.
When the printer is hooked up to the PC and I try to print to it from the iMac this is the error I get: "Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred, eliminate the cause of the error."
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Your problem is due to the way that Canon wrote the drivers for that printer. It can be shared to Windows machines if it is on a Windows machine, or to Macs if it is on a Mac. It can't be shared cross-platform. It is not supported by GutenPrint, so there is no CUPS system driver available; if there was, you could put it on the Windows machine and share it, and use the CUPS driver to print on your Mac.
I'm sorry, but that printer will not ever be able to be shared cross-platform unless and until Canon rewrites the drivers. I'd not recommend holding your breath while waiting.
The best solution to cross-platform printing is to get a network printer. Many vendors, including Brother, Canon, Epson, and HP, make them, some of them at fairly low (under $100) prices.

  • I suddenly can't connect to printer on wireless home network.

I have an Officjet Pro L7680 and we just had a new cable company installation in our house. We have 1 desktop and 2 laptops. All three share this printer and we had no problems. Since the install, 1 laptop won't connect to the printer. The cable co. tech support was not able or willing to help, saying it's not their fault. I get a message that the printer is offline, when the other computers have no problem printing.

On the problem computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
Next, print a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer (Network menu).  Note the printer's IP address.
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • Does the HP8600 support concurrent connections over both Wired Network and USB

I am having problems accessing the printer over the network could this be due to having a USB connection running with with a local PC.

    Hi RoyJames,
What type of device are you trying to connect to the printer?  It is possible to have the printer connected via USB for one device and connected via network for another.
    Hope this helps.

  • Haelp! cannot print over wireless connection

I just set up a wireless network in our house, with a 2Wire 1701HG gateway (wifi plus ethernet.). I have a Brother neworkable laser printer, connected to the wireless router via an ethernet cable.
When I have my iBook also conected by ethernet cable, I can print, no problem. But when I am connected by wireless, when I try to print it always says "AppleTalk inactive," even though when I go to the the Network Preference panel it says it is active!
The long and the short of it is I cannot print via wireless connection. What do I need to do to remedy this situation?
    Thank you!!!!

This snippet is from the Tiger printing help area. I had similar difficulties and it worked for me:
Delete and recreate the printer queue
    1. Open Printer Setup Utility (10.3) or Print Center (10.2).
    2. Delete any queues for the printer model you have.
    3. Add a new queue, and choose Bonjour (formerly "Rendezvous"). It should locate and show the printer attached to the base station.
    Good luck!

  • Can't Print Over Wireless Network to HP OfficeJet 6210 connected to XP Comp

I've been trying in vain for the better part of a week and a half to print from my MacBook Pro (w/ Leopard 10.5.5) over my wireless network (Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router) to an HP OfficeJet 6210 connected to my Dell Desktop running Windows XP SP3. I CAN however, both see and print to the printer with a PC laptop running Windows Vista. I've both re-installed and upgraded the drivers to the Windows XP desktop AND the MacBook Pro for the printer and still can't come to a conclusion. I am able to print to the printer from the MacBook Pro when plugged directly in via USB. I've tried to add the printer via "Windows" tab in printer configuration by choosing the network, then the computer, then entering the administrator accounts user name/password, however I'm still unable to print from the MacBook. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi LukeZim,
Sorry, but drivers on OS X aren't like on Windows (yet), where a driver is just a component in a system that works for all the comm protocols the computer can do. That's the way it would be if manufacturers provided CUPS drivers (CUPS is the print control system on OSX). But most manufacturers are still providing Carbon drivers - where the comm protocol is limited to what is put into the driver. HP provided a Carbon, USB-only driver for your printer. You'll need to use a third-party CUPS driver to use Windows Printing.
Gutenprint drivers (included with Leopard) are CUPS drivers, for example.

  • Printing over wireless Network connection

Both my iMac and Macbook are networked over a wireless network. My printer is connected to my MacBook.
I have turned on print sharing on both computers and am able to see the printer that's connected to my MacBook on my iMac, but when I try and print something on my iMac, nothing happens.
It gets added to a print queue on the iMac, but not the MacBook.
Can anyone give me an explanation as to why this is happening? and how to rectify this?
    Thanks!
    Phil

I have a PowerMac G5 desktop which has a printer attached by USB. I have a wireless router, to which the G5 is connected by Ethernet, and a MacBook wirelessly. Printer Sharing is turned on on the G5 because it is "hosting" the printer. I don't have Printer Sharing turned on on my MacBook. I can print wirelessly from the MacBook even though printer sharing is off (I do have file sharing turned on, however). Any computer on the network (I only have a MacBook) can see the printer attached to the host G5. I wonder with your setup why your printer is attached to the laptop and not the desktop (just your preferred setup I guess). I wonder if having both computers' print sharing on is confusing things b/c only one of them actually has a printer attached. I do remember having to reboot in the early days of my setup when I had Printer Sharing enabled on both machines. But like you said it is working so it really doesn't matter.
