Printing pdf - extra characters added

When printing from a downloaded pdf to another pdf or to hardcopy on our HP printer, extra characters are being added.  For example, the letter "j" is being added to the end of every word in one italicized paragraph, while a ":" is being added to the end of every word in another italicized paragraph.  The problem does not occur for all italicized items or paragraphs, only some.  I'm using Acrobat Professional 8.1.4.  This problem does not occur when using Acrobat 5 (which we have on one computer here for various reasons).  I've tried optimizing and flattening but they seem to have no effect.  Any ideas?  (There is no way to access the original source document used to generate the original pdf - I have re-downloaded it with no change.)

Try updating AA8. It is currently at AA8.2.3. May not solve the problem, but worth the try.

  • [mysql] Extra Characters Added

I've just switched to mySQL from Access. When I add a new
News Article to the site using my CMS extra characters are added to
the beginning of the "longtext" columns. You can see it here after
    the published date.

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening.
    I'm using CFMX6 and mySQL4
    Thanks

I hope I don't have to do that as I'd have to switch 100
cfupdates and cfinserts. I'm on shared hosting so I have to use
mySQL 4 since that is all they offer at this time. I've sent the
following link to my host with no response, I'm hoping it will fix
it. I read in a post that it does.

Its a hotfix for cfupdate and cfinsert.

  • Printing PDF doesnt show added note

I have a user with Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and when she adds a textbox to a pdf file and prints it, the added text does not show. Is there a certain way to add notes/textboxes and have it show up on a printed paper? Thanks

The note is a type of markup,, so one needs to select 'docounte and markups' for the "Comments and Forms" oprtions on the print UI.
One can also edit the applications preferences and undet the 'comments' select the "Print notes and comments'.

  • PDF Print issue : shifted characters

    Hello,
I have a problem printing PDF with reader 7.0 : in some cases, a part or all the document characters are shifted bye one.
    For example, a become b, b become c, c become d .....
Document render is perfect on screen.
The problem appears in a totaly random way, I not able to reproduce it for now.
I am printing from the OCX, encapsulated in IE on a HP laserjet (parallel port) throught PCL driver.
I updated reader to 8.1.2, but the problem is still present.
Does anybody already experienced troubles like these ?

Which broswer and what OS? You might want to configure the browser to open pdfs in stand alone in AA rather than within the browser window, or v/v.

  • When printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

when printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

This can happen when Firefox has misread the paper size from the information supplied by Windows. Clearing it can involve finding some obscure settings, but here goes:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''print''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) For each setting for the problem printer, right-click and Reset it. The fastest way is to right-click with the mouse and then press the r key on the keyboard with your other hand.
Note: In a couple other threads involving Brother printers, the preference '''printer_printer_name.print_paper_data''' was set to 256 and when the user edited it to 1 that fixed the paper size problem. If you see a 256 there, you can edit the value by doubling-clicking it or using right-click>Modify.

  • Convert PDF font ITCFranklinGothicStd-MdCd add extra characters with CR2008

My customer has several reports that are used the ITCFranklinGothicStd-MdCd font.
We've had some users tell us that their reports are showing extra characters - specifically, it inserts the letter "i" after every lower-case "f". For example, 'Ref.' becomes 'Refi' and 'For' becomes 'Fior' (there's no letter "i" inserted after the capital "F" - it only inserts after lower-case).
We've determined that the problem is due to the fact that we're using the ITCFranklinGothicStd-MdCd font; if we use a different font, it works fine. Also, if the end-user copies text from the generated PDF and pastes it into another document, it renders the correct spelling. So for example if they copy "Fior" out of the PDF and paste it into Notepad, it shows "For" as it normally should.
We cannot change the font, but we should solve the problem.
Use Crystal Report 2008 and Adobe Acrobat 9.
    How can I solve?

    Hi Ivan,
This seems like it's PDF issue. You said "So for example if they copy "Fior" out of the PDF and paste it into Notepad, it shows "For" as it normally should."
This suggests to me that PDF is having problem rendering that font.
Do they have a TTF version of that font?
What happens if you export to Word format, do you see it correctly?
You may want to post your question to Adobe's forum and possibly the the makers of the font also.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Add hyperlink in mail is adding extra characters to URL

When I paste the add a hyperlink to a page called Recent News on my .mac site, extra characters are added to the url causing the page not to be found.
"...Site/Recent%20News/D3A....html" becomes "...Site/Recent%2520News/D3A....html". I have no problem adding a hyperlink for my welcome page. Any ideas?

I don't know how to fix it, but I can at least tell you what's happening. The "%20" is the encoding for a space character in a URL, " ". This is being turned into "%2520" because the "%" is being encoded as "%25" (the encoding for "%" in a URL), so "%20" is turning into "%2520".

  • Printer printing with truncating characters on both sides using Style PDF

    Hi,
    DB:11.1.0.7.0
    Oracle Apps: 12.1.1
    OS:Linux Red Hat 86x64
We are using Printer name XYZ with Printer Type: HPLJ4SI
    Style: PDF Publisher
    Driver:PASTA_PDF
Issue: The same printer works fine in DEV env but not in INT env.
What could be the issues here and where could be the fix?
Could anyone please share such an issues faced before?
    Thanks for your time!
    Regards,

    Hi,
    Yes.Verified.
    Printer style: PDF Publisher :
    User style: PDF Publisher
    Layout: Columns: 132 Rows :55
    Report Definition:
    Output Format: XML
    Columns: 132
    Rows: 45
    Style: PDF Publisher
Exactly the same setups are there in both the environments but still it's printing with truncated characters at both left and right margins of the page in INT only.
    In DEV it's printing fine.
So, now where else could we be looking for the fix.
    Thanks,

  • Iweb adding extra characters - encoding as Latin-1 instead of UTF-8?

    mines.edu/academic/met/jip/
Can't get the extra characters off this page. When you view source, it shows extra characters in. When page encoding is changed to UTF-8, works just fine. However, the school webmasters say it is not a problem on server side (not that I believe them). Any thoughts?

However, the school webmasters say it is not a
    problem on server side
They are wrong. The server is (mis)configured to force all browsers to use the wrong encoding for your page. They can correct that or someone can put an .htaccess file in your space as described in the link provided earlier.

  • Extra characters appearing in Stickies and TextEdit

Having a problem with the design computer at work. Font issues all over the place. For instance, I'm trying to type into this field, and my cursor isn't exactly lined up with the text... so I don't really know where I am . It's inserting extra characters and spaces into the text field. This is happening on Stickies and TextEdit... and not anywhere else... not with Mozilla Thunderbird or MS Word. Weird.. Also the font is very light... as If I'm missing a core font.. which is possible because I used FontExplorer X (from LynoType) to clear the font cache and remove fonts from the system folder than weren't installed by Apple. I t may have screwed up the font folder... I might need to reinstall fonts, but I don't want to reinstall the system if I can avoid it. Any suggestions?

  • Unable to print PDF files to HP Colour Laser Printer

    Hi Guys,
I am having a problem with printing PDF files to a network printer. The printer was purchased recently and is a HP Colour LaserJet CP3525n all in one, printer/photocopier etc. Other documents such as Word documents work, so I don't think its a straight forward issue...
I can print PDF file to other printers, so I know the PDF files themselves are not at fault.
When I try and print to that printer, I just get pages and pages of funny characters coming up on the page... It doesn't matter what sort of PDF file I print either...
Are there any settings I can change that may help me resolve the issue. The printer is networked and shared amongst 4 people.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • No longer possible to save or print PDF files from browsers

I am suddenly having a problem saving or printing PDF files from the browser, but it extends to all browsers in OS X. I can view the PDF normally but if I try to print as PDF all it shows is two black pages. Then if I try to save as a PDF it tells me the document could not be exported. I just tried this with a PDF and the only way I could get it was via Windows running on Parallels. I've already tried resetting the printer by removing and adding it again with the alt key pressed but this made no difference.
This all started about a week or so ago and I just ignored it at first thinking it was something wrong with a particular file but now it's happening in all cases. I'm running the latest 10.7.3 on a new Mac Pro and everything is up to date. Does anybody know what might be causing this?
    Thanks
    Ashley

    Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

DO NOT USE PREVIEW TO FILL OUT PDF FORMS, IT WILL DESTROY PDF FILES. Sorry, but I had to shout here to prevent damage to your PDF files.
Here is one of the symptoms when you fill out a PDF form with Preview: If you save it and return it to the author, they will not be able to see the text that you've added to form fields - unless they click on a field, which will reveal the contents of just that field. You can recover from this problem, but Preview will also remove other field types, and will actually rewrite your complete PDF while ignoring what it does not understand. Take a look at this blog post for more information about the damage that Preview will cause: Preview.app - Killer of PDF Files
