Printing presets question

I am trying to figure if what I am about to discuss is normal or a bug. So I go to print a picture, I configure the settings the way I want for an 8x10 (as an example). Among the settings I select the printer (my color printer) and the paper size (8x10). Before actually clicking on the print button I save the preset and call it "8x10". After saving it, I continue with the printing process without issues.
Let's say at some point in the future I want to print another 8x10. So off I go to print. I open the print screen and select the "8x10" preset saved from the previous session. Well, the printer displayed is the one defined as the default printer in "System Preferences" (in my case a black and white laserjet) and the paper size is the default 8 1/2 x 11. Is this the way it is suppose to be? I mean, if as part of a print process I define a printer and the paper should it not be stored as part of the preset?
So is what I am experiencing a bug or is this the way Aperture is configured to work? I find it annoying having to change the printer and the paper size every time (it is a mistake waiting to happen). I could set my color printer as the default in System Preferences but then every time I print out of any other program I will have to change the printer setting in that program.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Using Aperture 3.0.1

Thanks for your reply. When using 3.0 non of the settings I saved when creating a preset would be there if I tried to use the preset again (there were times when the saved preset would just disappear).
With 3.0.1 some of the settings are saved, like image size, crop to fill, and watermark. But the printer and paper size always bounce back to my laserjet and letter size.

  • Color Settings\Colorsync settings don't stick when setting printing presets

    Hello
Posting this here, instead of in the iPhoto Forum
In the "Print" dialog box (the dialog box you see after you pass through the iPhoto dialog box - same type of box as with most other OS X applications), there is a down menu to give you access to several categories of settings related to the print job.
Here of course you can save printing presets (paper type, print quality, color management, etc).
Why do ColorSync settings under the "Color Matching" dropdown not get saved with the other presets? Every time, the profile setting defaults to "Automatic". Is this a bug or is there something I am not doing correctly? Is there a good reason why they aren't saved along with other settings? Apple on-screen Help says "some settings cannot be saved in a profile, but this would seem to be a very handy thing?
I use an Epson Artisan 800.
Alternatively, can someone tell me what the behavior is of the "Automatic" setting?
I recently profiled the printer and I am just looking for an easy/quick way at the time of printing to apply one of the three profiles based on the type of paper that is being used. I just figured this would be the easiest way to do it? (my question applies to any application - I posted here because this is of particular importance with iPhoto)
BTW Is it me or is there surprisingly little information online about ColorSync workflows/behavior/relationships in OS X?
Many thanks for any and all advice.
    Justin

  • Where are Print Presets in Photoshop (CC 2014)?

Where are print presets in Photoshop?  (I'm using CC 2014 but the question applies to earlier versions as well.)
    I don't see them anywhere.
Illustrator has had them for an eternity -- where you can set paper size, printer type, color settings, magnification, etc.
Where is the same functionality for Photoshop?  And if it doesn't exist -- why not? It makes no sense.

Yes they are different apps -- one does raster, one does vector - but they share the need to allowing printing from time to time, and there's no reason why the printing interface should be radically different.
Unquestionably, Print Presets would be very useful in Photoshop.
I know where all the settings are -- I want to have a preset so I don't have to keep setting the color management and magnification and everything else each time I want to output to a particular printer.

  • Photoshop printing presets for Ricoh Aficio 3260c

I work in a small printing office -- we use all Macs and we do all of our design work with either Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, printing it all on a Ricoh Aficio 3260c. We're using only Pantone colors in the designs but I just feel that there's some setting that isn't completely right in our printing process/programs.
I was wondering if in Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign I should alter any of the printing presets/profiles so that it's set up specifically for that printer, if that makes sense. I know that there is a "Pantone Driver" for our printer, but what advantage does that give us over the standard driver and could that pantone driver automatically contain the presets needed for printing pantone colors on our printer without altering the settings in Photoshop?
I've tried contacting various support and Ricoh but can't get any real help/information on what we're trying to do as nothing is actually broken, thus they don't really care. I just feel that there needs to be some tweaking along the way...so if you can help, that would be great! Thanks.

    danny,
If you are printing to a CMYK printer, why are you specifying Pantone-specific colors. First, a large number of those colors are outside the CMYK color gamut, so yes, you will get color surprises.
That said, if Ricoh does have a Pantone driver, I would recommend acquiring it as it probably will give a better interpretation of Pantone colors for that specific printer, than more generic converting-on-the-fly routines would. (Otherwise, why would they have bothered to develop and market it?)
Speak to a Ricoh tech rep and see what he/she says about this. If first-line support is clueless, work your way up to the Ricoh food chain until you reach someone in a supervisory capacity who can answer your question.

  • Printing presets not working

I will set up, define, and save a printing preset only to see it gone the next time I need to use it. Anybody else? Any obvious fixes, or is it a matter of waiting for Apple to fix it?

  • [CS5.5] Lock PDF export and print presets

    Hi,
With this post I would like to ask a question regarding locking certain features in Indesign.
Does anyone know if it is possible to ...
    - lock PDF export and print presets so a user is not abble to change/override any preset properties, and is forced to use a preset without the possibility to override any of the properties when using it?
    - force a user to use one of the predefinied presets to print or export a document without the ability to create a new preset?
    - verify PDF-files to check what Indesign print/export preset was used?
Being part of a larger prepress team, we would like to make sure that, every PDF-file created by each team member, is created with the same specs.
Does anyone know of any plugin, tool or release that enables such a functionality?
    Kind regards
    John

If the employees cannot follow company policy, they need to know that there are other people looking for work who can. Yes, mistakes happen, but that would be a case of choosing the wrong preset from a list (which, if you leave more than one installed, can't be avioded). Changing settings against policy is not a mistake.

  • Where are Print Presets located?

In 10.4.9 there are 2 methods for creating Print Presets. I have used the wrong method and need to delete a preset very badly. Where are these located? Normal ly the field in question says "Custom" or "Default"... I have no problem deleting from the preset field wth commands in it (save, save as..., delete) it's the other one that I need to remove from.
When I hit "Apple-P" it's the top field. Somehow I got a printer preset in there! Help!

Hey thanks... nice try, but that's not the one. That file contains the normal print presets that can be deleted by using the "delete" item in the menu.
I noticed that there are several other files of interest in the library you mentioned. Hmmmm.
I have a screen capture of the menu in question if there's any way to show it to you, let me know.
    Thanks again.

  • Need script for batch Open/Flatten/Outline/Print Preset/Close/Repeat

I have an Action created that I use in batch mode on deadline day to flatten my artwork, convert text to outlines, print to our press' desired settings (output to postscript file then distilled from there), then close without saving.
The problem is even tho tho the Action has a step for the desired print preset, I still have to use the dropbox and select it, then click Print to get the action going again- if I take out the icon where it stops the script to wait for my input, then I get a "Can't print the illustration.  The Color Mangement settings are inconsistent"  error.    So I use the dialog icon to use the drop down to select my desired printer.
From there the action has a 'Close' step where I get a question asking me to Yes or No to save the file.   I want to always answer No to the question as I want to preserve the file from being flattened and outlined- I just want the copy to be.    The action will not save the No answer to that question.
This forces me be at the computer and select the printer, click the print button, then answer 'No' for ever file in the batch.   I have to do this for a few hundred files-  its a process that takes over an hour.
I think I need a script or some help with the Action so I can get up from the chair and walk away while it does it for me.  I've posted here before years ago but got no response.  I've been dealing with what I have.
    PC, Latest version of IllustratorCC2014
I'm willing to pay for someone to write a script.

I'll PM you to try to help you.   Sorry you had to wait so long for a reply.

  • How can I change print presets?

Between the last time I used InDesign (CS3) and now, I upgraded my Mac system software to OS 10.9.5 AND replaced my old printer (which had died) with a new one.  Now when I open a doc in InDesign CS3, I can work with it just fine, but can't print it.  Initially, the PRINT command would cause the beach ball to spin and the ID to crash.  When I looked deeper, I find that ID is still retaining my old printer's information as the default printer, even though I deleted it from the system (I not only deleted the old printer via System Preferences for printing, I actually RESET the printer preferences).  My new printer is the only printer (thus the default printer).  However, ID doesn't see it.  When I look at ID's FILE/PRINT PRESETS menu and click "DEFINE," it shows me that the preset [default] printer is my old printer.  If I then click on "New..." ID crashes; if I click on "Edit..." ID crashes.
How can I get ID to see/recognize my new printer?  Is there an outdated list of printers somewhere within CS3 that doesn't include my new printer?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Many thanks

First of all, thank you both for all your help.
I found and trashed the Version 5.0 files in both the cache and preferences folders, and when I launched ID again and checked the print presets, lo and behold, there was my new printer’s description shown as the !  My joy was short-lived, however, because the “Print…” command still resulted in nothing more than a spinning beach ball and eventual ID crash.  I trashed the newly created Version 5.0 folders again, AND, for good measure, did the keyboard approach for replacing ID preferences, too.  Still a no-go for printing.  So, something else is going on that prevents ID from printing my docs.
It finally occurred to me to export the ID doc as a PDF, and I WAS able to print that from Reader, so that’s a work-around I can live with, I think.  I’m hesitant to uninstall everything, then reinstall from my ancient CS3 disks and upgrade from the website… it’s just so much work and it might not improve my situation.  If the PDF option fails to continue to do the trick, maybe I’ll tackle the re-install.  If I did as much graphics work as I used to a few years ago, it would be worth upgrading, but…
For now, you HAVE answered my original question, and I thank you again for the effort.

  • Forcing default values int "Standard" printer preset

I have a printer that uses a PDE (printing dialog extension) plug-in. Having the correct values in the fields in the plug-in are required for getting a job to successfully print.
I can easily create a printer preset with the correct value filled in and this works for most applications, however it does not work for applications that do not utilize the standard printing model.
These applications always select the "Standard" preset. I cannot seem to edit the correct plist or edit the plist correctly to force values into the "Standard"" preset.
I have tried editing "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist" with dictionary of "Standard" which did not work.
What is the proper keyname to use to set values in the "Standard" preset
    TIA

  • IDCS OSX10.4.11 Print Presets - Device Independent the only option

I have a clean build of 10.4.11 with InDesign CS installed from disk. First of all the update to 3.0.1 will download and install (I do make sure IDCS is closed) however it does not actually do anything even thought it says it completed successfully. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with similar results.
Second problem is really the more pressing matter. The machine is part of an Active Directory domain. The main admin account is able to see the menus just fine. However when a normal managed user logs in you get this.
When you go to File > Print Presets > Define > New... > Select Postscript File for Printer drop down > Device-Independent is the only option available for PPD. This is an issue because it does not allow for paper-sizes and other settings to be set. I really hope someone has overcome this issue and can direct me to fix it. I'm pretty savvy so please don't worry about explaining too in depth. A simple direction would help TONS.
    SAMPLE IMAGE:
    Thanks much,

I have only a slight idea, but I'll give it a shot. Do you actually need the PPDs for the printers in your domain? If you're printing to PS and distilling, then you can just make sure that the user account in question has the PPD files in the correct places, as per Steve's post above. Drag and drop. You'd want to use the PPD folder in the user's library, of course, as I assume that the user that
    i can't
see the PPDs wouldn't be able to see the system library at all.
If, on the other hand, you need to be able to get at the same PPDs as everyone else in your domain, then I think that your question is actually about CUPS. From a ten-second Google search, I'd guess that the user acct. must be able to get at the PPDs in /usr/share/cups/model/. Just a guess, though; it's been years since I've needed to know this kind of information.

  • Printing presets are not loaded correctly

    Dear community,
i have the following problems using different printers (Canon MG5200, Epson Workforce WF3620, etc.):
I saved about 10 own printing presets and when I check on them under "Show presets" they are totally correct. But when I want to use them in a following print job and select them in the drop-down list "Presets" they are not correctly loaded. E.g. "Paper Size" and "Pages" are alternated to thesetting saved in the preset but e.g. the "Duplex Printing" checkbox or the "Print Quality" drop-down list are just left on the setting they were on before.
Anyone knows that problem and can help me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Greetings,
    Fares from Munich

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I was having trouble with presets, too, on my Epson printer/scanner, which is an old machine and the newer driver software does not give the same print setting options that came originally. So I decided to start from scratch. First I used the Epson uninstaller to remove the printer software. Next, reset the print system, then  connected directly to the printer via USB. Ignored the initial offer to download driver software. In the printer panel in System Preferences, clicked + to add the printer. Then the printer was set up by the system. Still connected directly, I made the presets. Make sure to check the box for "All printers" for your presets. These presets should work when you connect your printer on the network instead of USB.

  • Importing print presets doesn't bring all settings

This isn't the first time. I saved my print presets to desktop out of CS4.  I load into CS5. All that imports is the NAME. The tray is default, any other settings like duplex, make booklet, staple, etc. all default. OK. Maybe CS6 fixes this. I export my print presets to desktop, load them into CS6 and all that comes in is my menu of preset names. Is there anyway to import presets so they actually retain all the settings I spent a lot of time creating. A bit tedious to have to redo every one from scratch. I exported my entire library of exports. Should I be exporting/loading one at a time? That's as much a waste as creating them from scratch.

    10.6
In ID when you click Printer... (not Page Setup...) you should get a printer specific dialog with a Presets popup. There isn't a way to save both the InDesign settings and your printer specific settings in one preset:
If you click on the Presets popup you should see a Save at the bottom of the popup list
This preset for printing to my GCC's manual feed is also available in Mail and other apps

  • I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint, only a WIFI printer,my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ?

I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint at home but only a WIFI printer, my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ? Please help me if anyone knows about this.

Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device.

  • Storing Print Presets in a Manually Created PDF

I am a Progress programmer creating/printing PDF documents from reports written in Progress by wrapping a PDF shell around the document. Having reviewed Adobe documentation, I know there is a feature called print presets that can be setup so that each time a document prints, certain key fields like tray, number of copies etc will be pre-populated into the print dialog. I wonder if someone can tell me how to add this information to a document during the process of creating it. Is it control code (number of copies) control code printer tray etc and what are the control codes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is similar functionality available through the API? I know how to use PrintParams to select the printer and to adjust Acrobat-specific print settings, but what is the proper approach to control basic settings like number of copies to print, tray to print from, duplex mode, etc.?
