Printing Problem Error:-9672

New to the Mac experience, Loving it! One major problem.
I have an Apple Extreme base station, I have an HP OfficeJet 5510 printer conected. I see the device on bonjour but when I want to add the printer it gives me this error message Error:-9672.
I know there has been posts regarding this message, but either I don't understand what they are saying (I do all the networking in my office with windows xp and vista), or my mac knowledge is not yet 100%.
I need help, can someone help me
Thanks!
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Not all printers are supported for wireless printing and when it comes to all in one printers, unless they have their own network interface card they aren't fully supported it at all. You might try this site to see if the GIMP print driver supports wireless printing to the 5510 but even it it does, it will only support printing, not scanning etc.

Hi ArielAce , thanks for getting back to me!
I would recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  • RE: An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error -9672

I am trying to add my HP 8450xi to my Printer List via Print Utility and get the following message: "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error -9672." I have tried everything, and this printer is only 2 years old. I was able to load an HP 69080 which is about 2 months old, and my Lanier LD232C drivers. Any ideas?

My HP 8450Xi is connected to my LAN [ethernet]. While I do have an Airport Card in my Mac Pro, and two airport base stations active for laptops, it is disabled. What is strange, I was able to load the drivers for a newer HP Network Deskjet 6980xi (Driver version 4.0.2), although it took a couple of times before it would successfully load, but could not figure out why it worked and the 8450xi (Driver 2.5.5) did not. Also, the 4.0.2 driver would not work with the 8450.

  • How to correct printing problem error code 0xd0840001

Help!   My 5610v suddenly stopped printing. All of the lights are flashing and error code " 0xd0840001 Reset Power" shows in the window.  I have unplugged power and still had same error code when I plugged back in.  Is this a fatal error or is there a fix?  Thanks.

    Hi @thom235,
Do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers.
When you unplugged the printer, was it on? If not, let's perform a hard reset. To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable for 1 minute. While it is unplugged, hold down the power button on the printer for 10-15 seconds to release any built up power, then after the minute has passed, plug the printer back in.
If the issue persists, I suggest you call us. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    Best of luck!

    ERROR: timeout
    OFFENDING COMMAND : timeout
    STACK:
I incurred same error message — inclusive accompanying printed page (with each print session). In my case the issue was with printer manufacturer's driver. I phoned (OKI) and their rep emailed a driver download link (oddly enough — same driver I had been using). In my case, downloading and (re)installing the driver resolved the error.
Aside: OKI rep explained that they (OKI) were aware of this anomaly re OKI driver/MAC OS X 10.10 and were working on an updated driver.
    Good luck.

  • Error:-9672 when trying to add HP Photosmart C3180 printer.

    Printer: HP Photosmart C3180
"An error occured while trying to add the selected printer. Error:-9672"
Printer works fine if connected directly to my iMac. But, through "Airport Extreme Base Station", I get the error.
Anyone with same printer having same problem? Anyone solutions?
iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I found the same thing out yesterday and did the same solution.
One issue should be noted. The quality of the print is much worse since we are not using the correct print driver. Works fine for standard unimportant text printing, but really can't be used for printing photos.
Connect the printer directly to the computer USB and print a photograph using the real print driver, then connect wirelessly using the above method and print the same photo. The difference is dramatic.
It also seems to overuse black ink when hooked up through the Airport, and the printer light blinks for a while after printing is done.
Anyway, I plan on leaving it hooked up wirelessly for convenience sake, but when good quality is needed I will attach it directly to the USB port.
You can verify my findings and let others know if you find the same thing I found.
Good luck, and lets hope there are more compatible printers available in the future.

  • Getting Error -9672 on installing Canoan IP4300 Printer / Bonjour

Printer is connected to a ReadyNas NV+ server via USB and is provided to the Mac via Bonjour.
I can easily create a new printer, Mac OS even finds the printer driver - "Canon IJ Printer". But as soon I try to confirm it, I get the eroor "Beim Hinzufügen des ausgewählten Druckers ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. Fehler: -9672"
This translates to something like "Error on adding new Printer. Error: -9672"
If I choose by hand the driver "Canon PIXMA iP4300 - Gutenprint v5.1.3" I'm abel to install the printer and use it for printing - BUT the quality of the printout is very miserable. If I print an image, it is almost complete black, its much, much to dark.
In the Consol Log Files the following error shows up:
    06.01.08 23:54:08 [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.print.add[142] Error -9672, badly formatted ticket XML - Bad XMLStart:
    06.01.08 23:54:08 [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.print.add[142] Bad XMLEnd
What's the problem here? Why cant the printer driver not be installed? Gutenprint drivers seems not a usabel replacement for the original Canon IJ Printer drivers.
    Any help welcome, Max

    maxweiss wrote:
As I wrote in my original posting, the Gutenprint Printer is working over Bonjour, but is only usable for text printing and not for image printing.
I understood you. However the driver should be giving you good quality printing of images. Since it is not, then I suggested you try deleting it and installing either the stable release (v5.0.2) or the new development release (v5.1.6) and see if that resolves the quality issue. Or, there is the PrintFab option which may also work correctly.
But the Canon BJ Drivers can not be installed using Bonjour, I get the 9672 error.
True again. You cannot use the Canon supplied drivers for network connections, other than Mac to Mac printer sharing or Airport connections.
Apple says Printer IP4300 is compatibel to Leopard
It is compatible, when connected directly to the Mac via USB or using Mac to Mac printer sharing or when connected via an Airport base station.
What I do not understand is, if I try to install the printer, the correct BJ Printer driver is selected automatically by the printer system settings - so the printer is detected correctly - the system chooses the BJ driver, not I'm doing this. But if I click OK, I get the error.
This does happen. The Canon printer driver is not designed to work with your setup, hence the error.
I do not know if it's Apples or Canons fault, but fact is, the printer is detected correctly an the correct driver is suggested by the system but can not be installed.
Yes, and this is due to the way Canon has designed the driver software so I believe it is Canon at fault. Note that they have some models of printer/driver that do work with your type of connection. But for your iP4300, the driver does not configure correctly after detecting the printer.
I also tried all the tips I found and you gave me too, deleting printer folder and reinstall latest driver from Canon, but with no luck at all. This is really annoing, and as much as I like my Mac (I'm a "switcher" I did not expect so simple stupid problems.
I understand your frustration. If Canon and other vendors put as much effort into writing their Mac drivers as well as they do for Windows, then using a Mac would be more enjoyable. There has been so many times when I have found a function that the Windows driver provides that does not exist with Mac. I would like to think it has nothing to do with Mac having such a small market share of the PC world, but you have to wonder?

  • Error -9672 While Adding Printer

I have connected an HP Deskjet Printer to my Airport Express. When I go into my Printer Utility to Add this printer, I am able to see it and select it. The location is correct and everything seems fine until I click on the Add button. This is when I get the following message:
An Error occurred while trying to add the selected printer.
    Error -9672
I have tried everything and can't seem to get this to work. Any ideas anyone?

That is a common error, did you download & install the latest hp drivers, generally the ones that come on the CD are out of date!?
Might try these two after reinstalling the latest driver and repairing Permissions with a reboot afterwards...

  • Error -9672 while trying to add printer

I had a printer connected via USB directly to my iMac 20 (OSX 10.4.11) that was working fine.
This morning, I moved the USB connection from the iMac 20 to the Airport base station so I could access and use the printer wirelessly from a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.5.6). The MacBook Pro sees and can send print jobs to the printer.
The iMac 20 can also see the printer It shows up in the Printer Browser list (with Bonjour as the Connection), but when I try to add it to the printer list in Print & Fax, I get "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error: -9672"
I can't get a clear explanation of what the error is, and all Apple support articles on getting things corrected have been unsuccessful.
I've tried everything I can think of...anyone got any ideas of what's going on here?

  • Bonjour Printing Problem

My family has multiple laptops. Since 10.5.6 one of the MacBook Pros will not connect to the bonjour shared MP830 printer (one will), and one of the MacBooks will not connect and one will. The error message the other two get is "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error:-9672"
The printer shows up if one goes to add a printer but after clicking on Add the error message above appears. Tried deleting all print queues and printers and add the printer but no luck. It will connect directly via USB to the two machines but will not work via bonjour.
Also turned off Firewall and tried but that did not work either.
Any ideas? What am I missing?

I am also having this exact problem. I can connect to my HP 1350 just fine directly with through USB. When it comes to printing through airport... it's the same deal: The printer setup utility shows the printer, I push "add" and I get the error message "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error:—9672"
I tried repairing disk utility. I restarted my computer. I'm at a loss now. I really want to be able to print wirelessly. I used to be able to. I downloaded the newest software for my printer last week. I'm not certain if that was the cause, and I'm not sure whether I had used it without error since then or not.
Please help me anyway you can.

I had been receiving a similar error on a client's Mac Pro running 10.5.2. Rather than using the latest driver, I tried the beta Leopard drivers. It works just fine. This is a Stylus Pro 4880. Connecting using Bonjour to a Mac Pro running 10.5.2.

  • Getting an Error:-9672  when trying to add printer through airport express

Hi everyone, I have a canon colour laser printer (LBP5000) works fine when I pop the usb straight in to the mac, but when I try setting it up by plugging the usb into my airport express I get an Error:-9672 this happens when setting up the printer in print & fax system prefs.
I have another printer set up on a different airport express, which works fine.... could this be a problem?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Lee

    Hello Lee,
When you select the LBP5000 in the Printer Borwser > Default Browser view, the Print Using menu should automatically set. If it isn't, and you are having to manually set the printer, then that will be a likely cause for the error (which usually occurs when the wrong driver is selected).
Try turning off the Airport Express and the printer. After a few seconds turn the printer on first and after it finishes making it's warm up sounds, turn on the Express. Now try to add the printer via the Default Browser view.
If that doesn't help, check your Airport Express firmware version. Some previous postees have found that their problems are resolved by updating their firmware on their Airport Extreme/Express.

  • "Error:-9672" Printer Setup Utility

Trying to install a Canon Pixma iP6000D via wireless network - getting error message "Error:-9672" -says printer setup utility is not responding/working. Successful installed an HP (direct connection, though).
Confusing to me, since this printer (the Canon) was connected to the wireless network before. Had problems getting it to print, so I deleted the printer and can't re-install it.
Any help or leads are appreciate

I was having the same problem with my HP 3180, MacBook and APE. I googled the error and found this link to some helpful advice that instructs you to uninstall the printer software and select a different built in print driver. It worked for me and took just minutes! hope this helps you too...

I have an HP Officejet 5510v printer connected to my airport extreme. My G4 Mini can connect and print fine. I have an Intel Powerbook that can see the printer listed as available under Bonjour, but I get a "Error -9672" problem connecting to selected printer message. Forgot to mention this important difference between the working G4 Mini and the non-working Intel PB - The Mini is directly connected to the Airport by ethernet cable while the PB is wireless.

  • Error -9672 when trying to add HP F380 as bonjour printer

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but it appears the HP F380 is not compatible with the newest Airport Extreme (with all the updates). After connecting it to the Airport the Printer Setup Utility can see the printer as a bonjour printer (good) but when I go to add it as a printer it fails with a -9672 error (bad). HP says 'their printers may work, but the configuration is unsupported'. So I'm posting here in the hopes Apple will try and work around the issue in an Airport update.

I too had the same problem with my HP F380 Printer. There is a way to get it to print over AE, but it will no scan. Here are the steps, hope it helps.
    1. Install Footmatic-Rip-3.34.2.15.ppc.dmg, espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg, hpijs-2.7.6.U.dmg (all found at http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs)
    4. Go to Add printer.
    5. Under "Print Using:" Select HP, then select HP DeskJet F300 Footmatic/hpijs (recommended).
    6. Click Add
    That's it.
Be sure to install the .dmg(s) in the order listed above, no big deal but hpijs-2.7.6.U.dmg won't install without the other two.
