Printing problem in Mavericks with Brother MFC-6800

I installed Mavericks, then downloaded the Brother MFC-6800 printer and scanner drivers, then used Software Update. I continually get a message that the printer is not connected. When you pull out the USB cable the driver shows no connection but when you plug the USB cable back in it still says not connected. If you start both the printer and computer you can get one successful print but after that you can't print because it says the printer is not connected. Every time I restart there is a second Brother printer driver installed.
The scanning software from Brother hangs when trying to scan. Image Capture doesn't even see the Brother scanner.
It seems to me Brother needs to release a new driver.
Does anyone know anything else?

Install this driver

  • Problems printing with Brother MFC-240C and HP 810C

(iMac 20inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) I just got a Brother MFC-240C Printer/Scanner/Fax and followed the steps to set it up but my colors are all off. In illustrator Green comes out like mud but orange comes out fine. From Photoshop the Green comes out lighter. I’ve checked the User’s Guide and it has nothing for this problem. I’m also going to check their website’s support section but I believe it’s my computer that’s not working correctly. Before my Brother MFC-240C I had a HP 810C what worked fine until I got the new iMac 20inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Tiger and I had printer problems from that point on.
    Please can anyone help?

I tried the ColorSync first aid and this is what I got,

  • Printing to multiple bins with Brother Laser

I struggled mightily to find a way to print from iPads to the different paper bins of my Brother MFC-8910.  I tried MANY options and finally got it to work, so I wanted to share what I did.
#1.  The problem.  I have to be able to print from iPads to:
    regular paper on laserjet
    label paper
    watermarked paper
    color inkjet
I did not want to buy 4 printers for this.  I wanted to use printers with multiple paper bins.
Thought that would be easy.  It was not.
The Brother Laser i bought, an MFC8910, was a total pain.  Airprint will go to a default tray on the printer, but you can't really make it so you can easily choose between them.
    #2 Solutions:
    A. CUPS printing.  Used CUPS to setup virtual printers.  This let me create virtual printers with different default paper trays.  This worked awesome for my iMacs, but still didnt' address the iPad printing problem
    B.  Printopia. Tried using this.  This worked, I could now see my virtual printers with the iPads.  But it didn't work because for some reason printing through Printopia causes a subtle change in the page layout and none my labels lined up.  So, it ended up not working after all.
    C.  Airprint Activator.  Tried using this, also worked as above, but still had alignment troubles when printing from iPads.  Weird.
    D.   Brother BR-Script.  I think this was the secret.  If I setup the CUPS server using the BR-Script drivers instead of the standard CUPS drivers, my alighnment problems went away.
So what I have now is a ML Server (although this could be any computer) that has a user on it called Print Server that stays logged in.  It has all the printers setup using CUPS, BR-Script Drivers, and Virtual printers setup for all the different bins I want.  It uses airprint activator to broadcast them for my iPads.  Working really well now.

  • Error message when printing from XP PC to Brother MFC-7420 over Express?

My G4 worked without a Hitch but I cannot seem to get my XP PC to print over my Airport Express network on a Brother MFC-7420 laser multi-funcion printer.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully?

I realize that - but this printer was designed to be used on a network, so you should use it that way. If you do that, I suspect you won't have any problems getting this printer to work from a PC using the setup software provided by Brother. You would also be able to make use of all its functions - rather than being limited to using it as a printer (no scanning ability) when connected via USB to the Base Station.

  • Printing problems in Mavericks

In Mavericks, my HP laser printers (P2015dn and 3600n) won't print properly from PDF files accessed online -- they print, on one page, 19 miniatures of the lower righthand corner of the page.  If I download the PDFs from the net and print from the downloads, they print properly. This is a very frustrating workaround.
Also, my envelopes won't print properly from WORD.  They display properly as horizontal (landscape) on screen. But when I print, the text prints vertically (portrait).  Most frustrating.
Any cures?  I fear there is an incompatability problem between Mavericks and HP drivers and Word.

I too am having the same issue with #10 envelopes.  It displays properly but does not print properly.  I am using an Epson Workforce 630.  Also since Maverick upgrade by Epson scan feature is not available.

  • Communication Error with Brother MFC-620CN Printer works but not scanner

Only printing works off the airport extreme but not scanning. Tried to mannually add the printer in the control center or device selector but printer cannot be found. Scanner worked prior to software upgrades. In addition, I get the communication error message "fails to connect to device" when I connect to the brother status monitor... All is OK when hooked up directly to Mac.
Anybody has a hint? Would be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Marti

Only printing works off the airport extreme but not scanning. That is exactly how it works. The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) only supports printing NOT scanning or any other operations.

  • No longer able to send fax with Brother MFC-8820D

I used to be able to send a fax by going to the Print... dialog box and selecting "Send Fax..." from the dropdown menu. Unfortunately, "Send Fax..." isn't there anymore. I've installed the latest Brother drivers. I'm not sure, but this may have started a couple versions of Leopard ago.
    Any ideas?

According to the Brother website, the Printer driver for my MFC is bundled with OS X 10.5. Furthermore, it states: "The Bundled Drivers support the PC-FAX Send and the Status Monitor features." Scanner driver can be downloaded separately, but there's nowhere else to get the fax driver. So I'm still stuck.

  • Printing problems from acrobat with recieved pdf's

    Hi everybody,
We have a problem with printing PDF files on windows 7 32 bit. This only happens with files that have come through one persons emails. When you open the PDF file from outlook it works fine but when you print it it crashes the print spooler service and the print job gets stuck in the print queue then you have to go into the queue and manually delete it. When I open pdf files that i have downloaded it all seems to work fine and will print.
Any help would be muchly appreciated
Also from this email you can email to an xp machine and it prints but if you email to the other windows 7 machine it does the same thing. But the other windows 7 machine can print thier PDF's from thier emails
    Thanks
    Jake

Quite frankly, it would really help the Adobe Acrobat team if you at least provided information as to what version of Acrobat or Reader you were using, what type of printer (manufacturer, model, and whether PostScript or not), etc.
We are not aware of a general problem of the type you describe and such information would help us track the issue down to assist you and any other users.

  • Printing Problems in CS4 with EPSON R1900

I recent bought a new Epson R1900 and much to my dismay, I can't print from InDesign or Illustrator (haven't yet tried from Photoshop). Basically what happens is that the printer ignores any settings I configure, and prints with the "Default" settings. So not only can I not control the quality or media type, but by default it uses up the Glossy Optimiser, by assuming I want to print on glossy stock.
My workaround in the meantime is to create everything as a PDF and print from Acrobat. For some reason, Acrobat can talk to the printer.
Has anyone else found these problems? Is there any solution to be had?

Ive gone crazy trying to get ID CS3 to print on my HP Laserjet P1006. Various Adobe techs have spent hours trying to find a fix. They really have been very nice and all tried
to be helpful. And - THANK GOD - most of them spoke English. Im hard of hearing and
unfortunately speak very little Indian. (Someone told me that all ID techs speak english.)
It will print PDF. And CS3 Illustrator and Photoshop will print.
One tech suggested that I download CS4 for the 30 day trial to see if it will print. But, after
reading your problem, I will skip even trying.
For quite a while, I was told that it was an Apple problem and that 10.5.6 was going
to fix it. But it didnt. My printer prints a blank page.
Ive read other CS3 printer complaints. What good is a program that wont print?

  • HT204135 Photoshop CS5 Printing Problem on iMac with Epson 3880 printer

All of a sudden I can't print from Photoshop CS5 on my iMac with OSX Mountain Lion installed.  I am able to print from Illustrator, however.   Have tried to update the Epson 3880 driver. After clicking on "Print", it doesn't register with the computer, and from then on, the "Print" option is greyed out.

Are you using moab icc profiles or are you using one of the epson profiles?
I always use the moab profiles which you can download from their Web site. This way you are matching the specific epson printer with the specific moab paper.
At that point you change the printer manages color to Lightroom manages color and select the specific profile. Very easy to do - they even have instructions on the Moab site for installing the profiles if you haven't done that.
Once installed you can also use them through the system print dialogs in PS but it is really much much easier to use in LR - Since coming on board with LR last summer, I have switched to doing ALL printing from LR. Since you mentioned that you are having the same problem with LR and PS, I'm betting you are using epson profiles and this will solve your problem.
    Hope so
    Tom

  • Printing problem using LR3 with Snow Leopard (IMAC i5) on Epson 3800:

My 5x7 crops are not being printed as selected and as shown on the print previews. The printed images cover the entire sheet but are somewhat cut-off as if LR3 had slghtly enlarged the file before sending it to the printer. After going through the print settings with me, Epson Support has assured me that their print drivers do not enlarge the files that they receive from LR. I am experiencing the same issue with both borderless and non-borderless prints. I am keen to send pictures to my friends and relations of my new grandson but have been working with this problem for a few days now. Can someone please help me?

My name is Syd and I work for Epson America, Inc.
When printing borderless, the image will have to be slightly larger to achieve borderless prints.  The Epson printer driver has two options for borderless printing - Borderless Auto Expand and Borderless Retain Size.  Each paper size will have both options available.
Borderless Auto Expand means the printer driver will expand the image automatically.  There is a setting for how much the driver will expand.  At the print window of the Epson printer driver, there is a setting called Expansion.  Here you will see three settings; Min, Mid and Max.
Borderless Retain Size mean you are enlarging the image yourself, controlling what you want to cut off.  The measurement of expansion is 1/8 inch to all sides, thus adding a 1/4 inch to width and height of the image.
    Here to help,
    Syd

  • Printing problem through PC with PDF file created by app

I created a 20 pages document by the numbers app on my iPad and sent it to myself as PDF. the format on each page looks great on my iPad, iPhone and appears the same look on a PC. However, everytime I tried to print it out, the print has a widened margin on top of each page. Does anyone experience this? What should I do to 'move' the content of each page on the right place as displayed on the screen? I'm so desperate to solve this. please kindly give some guidance.
    thank you.

    Flo,
In my limited experience with the iOS iWork apps, they weren't designed for those who are picky about the layout. They are highly automatic and if you don't like the result, it's not easy to override. If the format when printed leaves unpleasant margins, I think your best approach is to reshape the tables in such a way that they will better fit the target media. If you are having large top margin, make the tables narrower, then when they scale to fit the paper, then may fill it better.

  • Brother MFC-9700 Printer via USB keeps disconnecting

I recently upgraded from an older MacBook Pro running 10.6 to a new Macbook Pro with 10.9.1. I used Migration Assistant and everything went smoothly, but I had to reinstall the printers.
No problem. When I was at my in-laws, I got their wireless printer set up in about 2 seconds, and printed a bunch of shipping labels via stamps.com.
When I got home, I plugged in my Brother MFC-9700 via USB. My computer downloaded some drivers and I got the printer running.
But when I print from Stamps.com via Firefox, I might get it to print once, then for the next label, it says "The Printer is not connected" and the document just sits in the queue.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the printer, resetting the printer system, restarting the computer (several times), restarting the printer, unplugging and replugging the USB cable, downloading the print drivers from the Brother website, installing the printer as a generic PCL printer instead of with the Brother drivers, etc. None of these have provided a permanent fix to the problem.
Once it stops recognizing the printer, if I unplug the USB, restart the printer, plug in the printer again, and reinstall the printer, it might work for a print or two. I can get it to work longer if I have two printers installed, tell it to print to the "wrong" printer, then manually drag the file to the right queue, but that maybe gets me 3-4 prints before it stop working.
I looked at the console, and the errors that come up consistently when trying to print are:
    1/5/14 11:12:49.801 PM cups-exec[4693]: sandbox cache error 3850
    and
1/5/14 11:12:51.645 PM Brother_MFC_9700[4693]: The function `CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
I ship a lot for my business, and of course this is driving me up the wall. Some of my print jobs just diappear into thin air, and with Stamps.com you can only reprint labels immediately after the first printing, so I can't let them all queue up and then deal with the printer, I have to do everything one.by.one.
Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of that I have not tried yet is printing via Safari. I also haven't had the time to see if this is just a problem from stamps.com or Firefox. I did one test print from TextEdit when a printer was being recognized and it worked OK, but I haven't tried anything else yet.
Everything worked fine on my old MacBook pro with 10.6, I am certain there is no problem with the USB cable, and I did disconnect and reconnect it from the printer just in case.
    Help!!

I don't want to return my computer unless I know for sure there is a hardware problem.
Someone in the other thread had the EXACT same problem as me:
"Here's another post-Maverics Brother printing issue:
I have a Brother MFC-8500 connected via USB directly to MacBook Air and the printer shows offline in Printers & Scanners. If I remove the printer from the list of printers and re-add, it will show green and idle. After the first print job, which works fine, the printer will again go red and offline.
Pre-Mavericks, I have used this printer this way for years on my previous MBP. Latest Brother driver was installed 2 days ago.
I just got off a very frustrating call with AppleCare. Laura did not even bother to ask what brand or model, she just told me to call the printer manufacturer. Spoke with next level, Ryan. Told me it was a Brothers issue. Told him that it had worked prior to Mavericks  and he told me to use Time Capsule to go back to Mountain Lion. Informed me that this is 10.9 and no updates were issued yet. This is very frustrating and the service at AppleCare seems to have dramatically gone down hill. They just want to pass the buck."
Someone suggested he play with printer sharing, that the printer falling asleep could be the problem. It looks like printer sharing was already turned on, but I will play with turning it off and on and see if that helps somehow.
I tested this yesterday, and unfortunately, the printer falling asleep does not seem to be the problem. I saved several files as PDFs instead of sending them straight to the printer. Then I sent them all to the printer at the same time. The first file printed, then the computer stopped recognizing the printer. If I played with pausing and unpausing the printer, and dragging the files between two different printer queues, I was able to print them all.
This is extremely frustrating. This is a printer that both Apple and Brother say should work with Mavericks. I had ZERO problems until I upgraded to Mavericks.
