Printing problem in Pages

I have been trying to print a 5 x 7 envelope in pages and I keep getting an error saying paper is jammed but the paper is not jammed so I tried to print on a blank sheet of paper and I got the same error message. This is where it gets strange I decided to open the document up in preview and try printing it and it printed perfectly. Granted this is a workaround but if anybody has an idea how I can correct the problem in Pages 09 I would certainly appreciate any feedback.

I did check for stuck paper and there was none I also checked the print queue and that was not a problem either. So I tried a new pages document 8 1/2  by 11 loosely formatted what I wanted on the front of the envelope open using the guides put the envelope in the printer but not telling the printer that it was 5x 7 and it printed beautifully so it seems to be an issue with the document size In pages. As I mentioned before if I save the document then right-click or control click on the document and open with preview it prints perfectly in the  card / open format. So somthing is up with Pages. Maybe I should try Word instead.

  • Printing Problem - Multiple pages won't print

    I am attempting to print the inside pages of a wedding program using Pages '08. I have two printers - an HP 7580 and a Lexmark c544dn. I have elected file>print>copies and hit print. The Lexmark prints one copy while the HP shows only a red exclamation mark by the printer and will not print anything. Curiously, the outer page of the program will print multiple copies on the 7580. The inner back to back page (or more clearly, a portion of the program is on each half) is slightly smaller and the sizing has been adjusted accordingly and of course the page oriented to Landscape. This is about to drive me crazy because I can find no reason one section would print correctly while the inner pages won't. I'm sure there's some simple setting I'm missing But -- I'll appreciate any help to solve this puzzle

    I'll bet you have an HP printer. It's a long-standing problem between Apple applications & HP printers, specifically AppleWorks & Pages (any version of either) & HP printers. I'll also guess that you have numbered your pages starting with a number other than 1. Try putting the specific page numbers in the print dialog. For example, if you have a six-page document but the pages are numbered 11 to 16, an HP printer doesn't know what to do. Tell it to print pages 11 to 16 & it likely will work.

  • Printing problem with Pages and iWork

    This problem has been troubling me for months. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 colour inkjet printer. I have installed the latest s/w drivers so it's all up to date as far as I'm aware. The problem is that when printing from Pages - or indeed any iWork application, I select 'normal' print quality and 'plain' paper, but the printer refuses to print in anything other than 'high quality'. Even if I choose 'draft' quality, the printer prints high quality. I print lots of reports and never need 'high quality' besides which it takes 4 times longer to print and uses twice as much ink (and looks dreadful on the paper I use).
    Now here is the even odder thing, the printer prints as directed to Office 08, Mail, Safari and Text Edit. But I have the same problem of it ignoring my printing options in iPhoto and iCal. It also works fine from my wife's PC.
    HP has been truly hopeless in trying to sort out the problem. I have reinstalled the drivers many times and cleared out all kinds of files as directed by them. The problem originated in November last year when I upgraded to Leopard.
    I have installed the following drivers as directed by HP: HPInstaller_OJPK5400v9.7.1, HP v9.7Inkjet OS X 10.5 Update.
    Hope someone out there can help.

    Perhaps I should invest in another inkjet printer. Are you saying I should avoid HP and Epson? In which case how about Canon? Would that work or are there others you could recommend.
    Good question. IMHO there is no reason to reject any particular make and model of inkjet, but there is also no reason to suppose that the supplier will support that make and model beyond its short lifetime which is sort of supposed to be the lifetime of the version of the operating system for which the 'dumb' raster driver was developed. It's just the way it is, unfortunately.
    One should purchase the type of printer product that suits one's purpose. For proofing of copy a black and (single colourant) grayscale laser is superior to an inkjet. For proofing of photographs a colour inkjet which is correctly calibrated, correctly characterised, and for which colourants are correctly converted in the colour correction software and pagination software can hit within 1-2 dE of the print on a press operated with automatic colour control.
    Sorry to be so unhelpful, but there are four printers and shelves of software here, and it's not simple, unfortunately.

  • Printing Problem with Pages

    I have a Canon Pixma ip 4200. I have had no problems printing with any other application but I cannot get Pages to print. I had the demo version and thought that was the problem, so I bought the application, but I still only get a small part of the page and then it stops. I have tried saving in PDF format and printing, I have tried previewing in PDF format and printing - nothing seems to work. I know there have been hundreds of complaints with Pages and HP printers, but I haven't seen anything with Canon. Does anyone have a solution to offer? Thanks.

  • Print problem. trying to print a document in Preview, the start of the text prints half way down the page not at the top of the page?

    Print problems.  Printing out an email the text starts half way down the page.  I tried taking a picture of the text I wanted to print, tried to print from Preview and have the same problem.  If anyone has any ideas I would really apreciate it. Thanks Penny

    One more thing to check:  System Preferences/Print & Scan.  Make sure your printer is set as Default.
    I'm using OS X 10.8 and I don't see Page Setup anymore. If you have access to Page Setup, check to see if there are any adjustments to make there.

  • HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer won't print the last page of documents & envelope problem

    My HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer won't print the last page of documents until i send another document, then it will print the last page of the previous document, but omit the last page of the current document.  I need to keep printing a blank page or any other page to get my previous documents completely printed.  Also, the envelopes print with large rectangular boxes on them and no address (I don't know if this is a result of the previous stated problem or not - it started happening at the same time) I use the envelope feature in Microsoft Word 2010.  I never used to have either of these problems - didn't make any changes to the system or add any software to the computer, so I know it's not that.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • How to fix extremely slow printing from web pages with latest updates (iMac) & HP Office jet printer. (It was not a problem with earlier versions of Firefox & same computer & printer.)

    The latest two updates of Mozilla Firefox are not useful for me because of extremely slow printing of web pages. It was never a problem before. Same iMac and HP officejet printer. How can I either fix it, or revert to an earlier version of the browser (without losing all my bookmarks) which didn't cause this problem?

    Try scanning from your Mac.  Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
    Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom.  Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

  • Printing problem with muliple page 2D graphics.........URGENT

    /*hi
    I want to print the drawings that i create in my painting application.
    Following is the extract from my drawing application, which takes care of the printing part. The problem i am facing is that, i am able to print only one page, the other parts of my drawing are clipped (both from the horizontal as well as vertical direction)
    However i did found some help on printing multiple page TEXT documents, from some literature, but nothing was mentioned about printing drawing that may extend to multiple pages.
    Since printing forms a very important part of any painting application, the whole of my project now relies on the success of the printing code. Its really urgent for me to get out of this problem, any kind of help from anyone would be a great contribution in completing my project */

    and it doesnt seem to work as I tried it both as landscape and portrait in the print dialog but landscape is always 0.

    Basically you need to write some smart code. Your application needs to be able to determine what to print on each page because the print api will call the following function passing a page number. Your application must know what to paint on each page. If you think it sounds complicated you better believe it is !!
    public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int pageIndex) {
    PageNumber = pageIndex+1;
    // Need to calc the pages here
    page = (Graphics2D)g;
    calcPages();
    say("Printing page " + PageNumber);
    if (PageNumber <= getNumPages()) {
    paint(g);
    return Printable.PAGE_EXISTS;
    } else
    return Printable.NO_SUCH_PAGE;
    The code above comes from my report printer class and as you can see a calcPages() function is called prior to the paint() function being called. This function sets up a whole bunch of things including exactly what needs to be printed on each page. Note that the calcPages() function is smart enought to simply return is it has already been called. This way the paint function simply checks the PageNumber variable when painting to establish what to draw on the page.
    So imagine when you are generating a very large report from a database ! You basically have to process the report doing all the formatting prior to actually allowing the paint function to be called. Its quite a complicated business but fortunately even the largest report does'nt really take up that much memory. I basically just create buffers of the data for each page - its a bit of a pain but the same logic is required for pagination anyway.
    Be happy to provide you with the source code but you might need the whole application to get anything working.

  • Problem in printing SAP Script Page Numbering

    Hi All,
    Am facing a problem like : Page Numbering in one of my form is getting printed from 0 (I mean initializing from 0).
    Eg : Page 000 of 003
           Page 001 of 003
           Page 002 of 003
    I want to get printed as :
          Page  001 of 003
           Page 002 of 003
           Page 003 of 003
    Could you pls help me in this regard.
    Thanks In Advance.
    Thanks,
    Madhu.

    Hi,
    You can solve this problem by setting the page counter mode to "start" and the numbering type as "Arabic", in the page attributes.

  • Problem with printing dynamically created pages

    Hello,
    I have created a form in Designer 7.1 with one page. When clicking the Print button the script generates additional pages with the instance manager (addInstance) and then I want to print the generated pages. However, when using 'xfa.host.numPages - 1' in the print statement only the first page is printed. When I use a static end value, I get an error message with 'wrong end value for print'. Does anybody know, what I have been missing?
    Thanks, Karin

    No problem with Adobe Reader 8 or 9 .

  • Margins problem when printing to PDF (Pages '09 v4.0.3 build 766)

    Hi,
    I don't know if this is connected to the latest Mac OS X v10.6.4 update, but some of my machines exhibit a very curious behaviour.
    + multiple pages A4 document
    + choose File > Print, click on "Save as PDF", under the PDF button
    ++ set pages 6 & 7 to print
    ++ set 2 pages per spread, so as to have Pages shrink the A4 document to somewhat A5, and have the two pages side-by-side on the same sheet
    ++ save the PDF
    Then, when I open the PDF with Preview, the margins are all wrong (i.e. too big, there's too much white running around).
    And from Preview's inspector, I can tell that the Page Size is set to US Letter, although in Pages both the document size AND the Printing Format are set to A4.
    The most curious part of the story is that my MacPro, my work MacBook Pro 13 and a white MacBook exhibit the problem, whereas my personal iMac 27" DOES NOT.
    And they are all running Mac OS X v10.6.4, with ALL the most recent updates, and the exact same version of Pages!!!
    I suspect that something has been changed in a framework somewhere, but I cannot figure out what it is...
    Any idea is welcome!
    Thanks,
    K2r

    I can do the same in TextEdit (although it's even more painful to control the margins!!).
    My problem is not that Pages won't put pages on one sheet; It's that the generated PDF does not respect the sheet physical size (A4 vs. US Letter), thus adding wider margins all around the document.

  • Print problem after exporting Pages to PDF.

    I am attempting to print a very large genealogical book (300 + pages) of my family's descendants and noticed that in both Preview and Adobe Reader the first character of every page is missing. This does not happen when printing from Pages so it cannot be a printer problem. I checked the placement of the print against the Pages page and both Preview and Adobe Reader are EXACTLY the one character difference with the pages exactly even with each other. The original page type is 12 pt with margins: Left .5in, Right .5in, Top .75in, Bottom .75in, no header, Footer .5in using 9 pt type. What is really odd is that the onscreen display is correct but only the printed (HP OJ6500E702n wireless duplex marginless printer) copy is incorrect which indicates to me the conversion is somehow creating this problem.
    I need this PDF file as it is the file I print from plus I put the file on a disk as a backup for the paper book for all book recipients.

    While this problem is for ANY application that EXPORTS, not prints, to a PDF format, I have discovered that the problem is probably be with the printer's minimum allowable margins being physically the same regardless of portrait or landscape instead of the logical rotation of margin type locations in landscape mode. Question answered by logic research.

  • SL - Pages & Printing problems

    I have upgraded to SL. Since then my business logo doesn't print properly. It has a colored design with some gray scaled lettering surrounding it. When I select it and copy to another application such as : Word - it then has a black background as does Appleworks. (it wasn't created with a black background). - Copy to Preview prints perfectly. Pages where the document was created, prints with all the lettering in blue (supposed to be shades of Gray), and the artwork is not the right shade. It seems like this is more than a printing problem, since coping it to another app. changes its appearance also. Before SL, I could print, and copy to other apps with no problems. Please advise!

    dan ol,
    What kind of printer do you have?
    Just trying to help.

  • Maverick Mail Printing Problem: prints email header on separate page from body of email.  Why?!

    Maverick Mail Printing Problem: prints email header on separate page from body of email.  Why?!

    For what it's worth, I can report exactly the same problem.  I just recently converted from Outlook for Mac 2011 to Mail.  I did the conversion while running Yosemite.  I like pretty much everything about Mail EXCEPT that it take 2 pages to print a 1 page email!!  The header appears on the top of p.1, followed by a blank space.  The message begins at the top of p.2.
    If you scale it down, you can get the message to begin to appear on the bottom of p.1, but clearly, Mail is inserting BIG SPACE between the header and the message.  Changing the display fonts for Mail had no apparent effect (except that the font DID change, of course)....still a BIG SPACE between the header and the message.
    Coming to Mail for the first time, I would have assumed that this was just a quirk of Mail, but am I understanding that some of you Mail users out there USED TO NOT have this problem??  I think it's pretty clear that it's Mail that's causing the problem, not the message, because I went over to my old Outlook and printed the same couple of messages with no such space between the header and the message.  So Mail is inserting a space into the print formatted email message that is NOT there in Outlook's print formatted same message.
    Be really nice to get rid of this problem, but my Apple Care free support has expired.  Not sure I want to pay for something that's generic to Mail!!  Anyone else made any progress on this?
