Printing problems after security update

Any fixes to the printing problems (for me it is with Quicken) after the security update??
Don

There are several threads popping up over in the Mac OS X v10.6 section of ASC about the Security Update.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: Mac OS & System Software: Apple Support Communities
It seems that the update has killed printing and other functions for some PowerPC Applications.

  • Rosetta Problems after Security Update 2012-001

My crack team of sys admins and I have devised a method for resolving some of the issues regarding the Security Update 2012-001 and Rosetta.
    http://www.educate-it.org/content.php?130-Rosetta-Issue-after-Security-Update-20 12-001
Click this link for an Installer that will revert the files necessary for some Rosetta apps to run after the Security Update. This is a band-aid and is only recommended in emergency situations. Apple is currently working on a fix, but until that happens, we are stuck with reverse-engineering their update. I hope this helps those in distress from this update.

Backup files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
If you have TM, or a option key bootable clone use that to erase and restore from.
If not, c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility to >Repair Disk and Permissions,  (do not format or erase!!) and simply re--install 10.6 from the disk. Note: Does not touch your files and most programs, but backup your files regardless.
Note: If Disk Repair gives a error that is not repaired, then you have to consider erasing the drive (with Zeros) and try reinstalling 10.6 fresh or replacing the drive.
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8, it should not include the security update at this time (second pass it might show) because it was just released and they might need to pull it. (they need to pull it)
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that installed kext files into OS X, you'll know, they won't work.
If you get gray screen, hold the shift key and update your installed software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

  • System problems after Security Update 2007-007 install

    Hello all,
I am having problems with my computer after installing the 2007-007 security update. Specifically, the keyboard and mouse become non-functional at random intervals. The system has not frozen up, though, as items on the screen continue to update. Each time this has happened, I have had to ssh into the machine from another one and reboot. I am on a dual G4 Powermac, 867 MHz with 2 GB of RAM running OS X 10.4.10. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Hard to say. Have a bootable backup of your installation before the update? Did you repair permissions and repair the disk before installing? How soon after rebooting does the problem come back? Have you checked the console and system logs?

  • Problems after Security Update 10-05

Installed today's Security Update from Software Update, restarted, and ran Permissions Repair (as usual). As usual there were several Flash/Java permissions which needed fixing, but while this was happening I kept getting a window telling me that "WebKitPluginHost quit unexpectedly" and that a long report of tech-speak would be sent to Apple.
There's no sign of WebKitPluginHost in Spotlight, so I presume it is something to do with my only automatically loading Login item, which is DropBox. This guess was supported by the failure of Dropbox to launch at all, even when I followed the maker's advice and trashed all their settings.
I restarted the computer, re-ran Permissions Repair, disabled automatic loading, and re-started. Still no Dropbox. It was working fine before the Security Upgrade, so I presume it's a problem with the latter, rather than the former.
I ran Permissions Repair again, and it told me all the Java ones it had just repaired had to be repaired again!
Anyone else having post-Update launching or permissions problems?
    Anyone have a suggestion?
Can I "Uninstall" the Update and see if that fixes things?
Will a "Safe Boot" ignore the Update??
Added: I tried restarting and logging in with a new user "Test" account, but the problem was the same, which I think indicates it is a system problem?

I tried 'Safe Boot", and had the same problem, but when I rebooted again in normal mode, everything worked! I don't understand why it took 4 restarts and 2 Permission Repairs to get things going after the Security Update (the only thing I have downloaded for a week or so, by the way), but my own particular problem is solved.
I'll mark this as answered, but someone else may need to post if they find the Update causes strange behaviour.

  • Afp connection problem after security update

hi, after installing the security update 2011-002 on the server i can't connect via afp to the server. passowrd ok, then no connection! where is the problem.

You're not posting near enough information to troubleshoot this.  Have you verified permissions or checked to see if the share in question is actually being shared by AFP?

  • Start up problems after security update 2014-002

Hi, after this update sometimes my Mac does not start up like it should: the Dock is not appearing and the screen is flashing between fully grey and thenormal background.  The only cure seems to be to restant a second or third time. Already resetten PRAM, used disk utility (no problems) and repaired permissions. Does anyone else has encountered this problem? Thanks

I have always had good luck with DiskWarrior. I've had serious issues and DiskWarrior has always come thru .
Are you nervous because you have never used DW before, or are you afraid it will hose your system?
By your report, it kinda sounds as if your hard drive has either failed or on it's last leg.
I'm guessing you had issues with the drive before installing the update and you did not know it. Updates tend to point out problems in a big way sometimes.
I run repairs on my hard drive before installing any updates.
I don't remember, does Jaguar have S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk utility? If so, what does it say about your drive?

  • Airport Problems after Security Update 2007-004

Ever since I've installed Security Update 2007-004 my Airport connection has been dropping about every 15 to 30 minutes. Sometimes Airport will stay connected but will stop working until I renew my DHCP lease (I get the same IP though). When it drops I click on the Airport icon to reconnect but my network doesn't always show up. Sometimes I have to turn Airport off and back on again to make it show up, and a few times I've had to reset my computer to make it show up.
I have a MacBook Pro with an 802.11n card. I'm using two different routers; one at work, and one at home. The work router is a Linksys N router while the one at home is a Linksys G router.
I've tried all the tricks. Repairing Permissions, deleting the extension caches, installing the standalone updater, but nothing is working.

Deleting AppleAirPort2.kext solved the problem for some...

  • Problem after Security Update 2010-003

    Hello,
Since i installed the Security Update 2010-003 i have a problem at the login-screen an password-prompt like this http://twitpic.com/1j66kr
Have you any idea to fix it?
    Thanks a lot!

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
These symbols are from Apple's Last Resort font, and indicate that a major problem has arisen with the OS's ability to use the basic system fonts. It's been reported here a few times, and I think the only solution is to reinstall all system fonts. See Kurt Lang's post.
Here is a user tip by Kurt Lang that lists all necessary system fonts and their locations.

  • Booting problems after Security update

    Hi,
A couple of days ago, I did a Security Update and an update of Safari or Quicktime, I'm not sure. Afterwards, when I started my computer (an iBook G4, 3 years old), it shows the grey Apple-screen and then switches for a second to the blue Mac OS-screen with the bar that should be filling up. However, no filling up happens and a blue screen appears where the mouse-pointer can be seen and moved.
I tried starting up with Safe Boot, but the only thing that happens, is that the spinning wheel on the grey Apple-screen turns quite a while longer. Afterwards the exact same things happen.
I also tried booting from 2 Install Disks, both however not the ones that came with my Mac. (That one I can only get back in a couple of WEEKS.) One of those disks came with an eMac (Mac OS 10.3), the other one with a rather recent MacBook (Mac OS 10.4). In both cases, it won't boot from the disk. With the 'old' one, I get a black screen with mouse-pointer (not moveable) after the grey Apple-screen. With the 'new' one a blue screen appears after the grey Apple-screen.
    Can anyone help me?
    Tx,
    Bas

Did you do a backup before updating? Did you repair permissions before and after, as well as repairing the drive with Disk Utility beforehand?
I know you can't install an OS with a disc that came with another model computer. I'm not sure if it will even let you boot from it, or maybe in some cases and not in others. Have you tried booting in Single User Mode?

In a follow up, The printers are a brother mfc-4800 and an Epson 870. It seems like Apple in the latest update did something to make the software so secure that you are not allowed to print whats in your computer?
Hey Apple can you update the update? My other drive is loaded with the 10.4.4 and everything works

  • Safari problems after "security" update

recently installed the new "security" something update restarted went to open yahoo via safari get the message " Safari can’t connect to the proxy server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://google.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the web proxy server (HTTP). To change your proxy settings, open Safari Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Change Settings. For help with this problem, contact your system administrator."
    have the HTTP protocol checked
does nothing emptied the cache and reset safari along with doing another restart and still nothing loads
also i cant get the software update to run it fails and says "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)."
ive hardly a clue what any of this is but i have figured out its not my net connection because firefox that im using to type this works fine. if a bit slow

    HI,
    have the HTTP protocol checked
Deselect any boxes ticked under "Select a protocol to configure" in System Preferences/Network - Proxies.
    Relaunch Safari.
Your profile indicates your Mac is running 10.4.3. If that is the case, you need to click the Apple Menu/Software Updates. Minimum requirements for Safari 4 is 10.4.11.

  • Problems after security update 2012-001, 1.1

Two troubling occurrences after this install. Downloading software upgrade from Canon.com, I got Error 404. Reported it; rep said he had one other report like that. He was interested to hear I'd just installed the latest sec. update. He had me try several other urls, both of which gave error 404. He hasn't gotten back to me. Yet.
Second, I applied for the instant credit card from Barclay in order to buy the new iPad. Completed the application and hit submit. The expected "Processing..." mini-window appeared but disappeared within seconds and I was returned to the application screen with no further activity from their side, and no email from them. The site finally timed out.
    Any ideas?

    casey451 wrote:
I will continue to bug Canon.
Even the Apple KB site had a problem of this sort at one time…
It would be surprising if Barclay's, which is directly linked to the Apple site, would be unprepared to receive applications from people using Safari.
I don't know… Nowadays, when it comes to banks, I'm ready to believe anything.
Anyway, check their on-line banking help or support pages, they must state what browsers are supported.
It's perfectly possible that they do support it and the issue is something else -- you may have cookies disabled, or JavaScript turned off, maybe even something related to the update. Again, it's the kind of stuff you should find on their support or help site.

  • Printing problem after software update 10.5.5

    Hey Folks,
I'm trying to keep my HP LaserJet 3 (yes 3) alive using Gutenprint drivers. After the latest software update to OSX, after I hit print in any app, the printer dialog says that the printer is off-line. I tested with my Windows laptop, so clearly it's an OSX issue. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

How did you setup the printer in Print & Fax? You should set it up as an LPD printer. The printer should have an assigned IP, Gateway IP address, and network mask configured in the printer. These should conform to the network mask used by your router (to which the computer is connected), the router's Gateway IP address, and the printer's IP address should be within the router's DHCP address range (such as 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.199.) Also check the Ethernet cable to be sure it's good and be sure the network card in the printer is configured properly for TCP/IP.
You can also try the shareware utility, Print Therapy, to try and get things working - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • HP PRINTER PROBLEM AFTER SOFTWARE UPDATE

MY HP LASER PRINTER WORKED FINE UNTIL I INSTALLED SOFTWARE UPGRADE WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO ELIMINATE PROBLEMS WITH HP PRINTERS. NOW I HAVE TO SHUT IT OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON WHEN I WANT TO PRINT.ANY ADVICE?

Welcome to Discussions - first, posting in CAPS is akin to shouting, it's disturbing, so please don't do it.
Go to the HP support page [here|http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html] and see if there are others with your problem. You can remove the printer from your printer list, uninstall and then reinstall it without the upgrade which is causing problems.
