Printing problems inDesign CS5 to an Epson 3880

When printing one color CD cover to an Epson 3880 from inDesign CS5, it fills and exceeds a 8.5" by 11" page. This same procedure has worked excellently for quite some time and now doesn't. I reset Preferences and this didn't work. Any thoughts?

I really appreciate your efforts at helping me, thank you. The document set-up is 8.5" by 11" (portrait). I have simply created a CD case label on the page using a box so I can print two-up, I have not re-scaled the page to my knowledge.
The correct paper size is noted in the print driver, you have several choices under the Epson 3880 menu including borderless or retain size - I have tried both without success. Just to make sure, I have restarted my computer, opened inDesign and then created a fresh new document and it happens again. I also re-set the Preferences again (restarted te computer) just to make sure it took.
I have printed a picture using Aperture and PhotoShop with great results, this problems seems to be isolated to inDesign.

  • Printing problem in cs5 and imac 27

I have been running my Epson Stylus Pro 4800 on a macbook pro and cs3, for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever. I have now upgraded to a new iMac 27"and have had nothing but problems with the 4800. I have made my own profils and used Epson paper profiles but the prints are not as colourful as they used and totally wrong as well. I am also getting totally oversized prints compared to what image seize in ps is set to be.....for example, I have been doing a 10x21 test picture on Premium Lustre paper (photoshop is managing the colours through CS5, but it is printing the image at least 1,5 the size that it should be. All my settings are correct, dpi is 300, I'm printing at 1440dpi resolution on the correct profiles for the paper. I am at a loss to understand why this is happening. Is anyone able to assist me?
I can do the printing in preview  and that is looking quite ok. But trough photoshop it is bad colors and wrong size on the print.
    Regards Ulfja

I saw you're having a printing problem with CS5 while using an Epson printer. I'm having a problem too. Read my situation and see if you think it's similiar to yours. I posted this about an hour ago but have not heard from anyone yet.
I'm having problems getting good prints when using Photoshop CS5 with my Epson Photo R2880 printer, problems I never had with CS4. Here's the situation:
If I take a PSD file and print it using CS4, everything works out perfectly. But if I take that same PSD file and print it out using CS5, the print is now offset top to bottom, as well as left to right, along with a 1/8" black strip being printed down the right edge of the paper. As far as I can tell, everything is set the same.
I've compared all the print information found in the Print dialog summary box between CS4 and CS5 and everything appears to be the same. I've verified that I'm using the latest print driver with my printer, and I am. It's 8.27.  I've verified that I've checked off the box to center the print to the paper, each time I've made a print. And in trying to figure out what's going on, I've discovered that this problem occurs with any paper size when using CS5, but not with CS4.
I'm stumped and frustrated and without any more ideas as to what I should do next, except to always print my projects using CS4. If anyone has an idea for me, please let me know!
I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. The colors I'm getting in my prints from CS5 seem to be alright, but not the positioning on paper. It keeps offsetting and running a black stripe down one side. Fortunately I have CS4 on my computer that I can use to print from, but it shouldn't be this way.
    Good luck!

Does anyone know how to fix this?

What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:

Epson Stylus Pro 3880, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Double profiling printing from in InDesign CS5 to an Epson 7800

I had to print a collage of 28 images on one page. In the InDesign print dialogue where you choose the colour management in the options field in colour handling it says let InDesign determine Colours which is unachangeable, certainly on my machine. Under that it suggests you pick the printer profile that you wish to use. When I do this the print is all washed out and pink. I'm aware of the conflict warnings if you try and set stuff in the Mac print dialogue. However trying this I get this error message once I come out of the Mac dialogue and press print in the InDesign dialogue: "Printing error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to uotput your data due to an unknown problem." Two things: my friend doesn't get this error message and can print away. I finally solved my print problem by choosing Adobe 1998 as my printer profile in InDesigns colour management dialogue!.
My Mac is on 10.5.8 and my friends is on 10.6.8 so there is that. I'm also aware that its possible to get lucky with some files using Adobe 98 as a print space because I used to do it all the time years ago before I ever knew about colour management so I'm not convinced I have nailed this and using Adobe 98 as the printer profile in InDesign just seems stupid. I printed a single image through Photoshop that forms part of the collage and it perfectly matched my colour managed workflow.
If anybody has any ideas i would be very grateful To hear them.
    Regards. Patrick.

I wish I could help, but I just upgraded to CS5.5, and I'm also on Mac OS5.8. I've gone back to CS2 to print because, out of CS5.5 I get a poor b+w print. Adobe tech says my printer is old and suggested updating my printer driver, but I'm using a driver appropriate to my old HP OfficejetPro. My printer's been a workhorse, but they're so cheap, I may buy another printer. It makes no sense that CS5.5 should be so picky about printers.

P.s. I'm new at using this forum, and though I thought I sent this out once already, I never saw it posted. If I'm in error and it's already out there, sorry for the mistake and posting it twice.

    >"Unfortunately then I'd have to say all bets are off. The only true test is to print with the standard materials that Epson has designed their printer for. Only if that works well should you be trying third-party materials. For example, third-party inks in general are of poorer quality, are inconsistent, clog more, and in the long run, do not save you anywhere the amount of money they advertise over the genuine Epson products."
Getting very nice results with an R1800, Inkjetfly CIS, and Red River paper. The R1800 has never had Epson ink run through it and has no abnormal clogging problems. In fact, clogs are rare.
Getting near perfect matches to the monitor with both Colorvision and x-rite calibrating/profiling equipment. The printer stays on 24-7 so the only ink used, other than printing, is a periodic nozzle check. I am not alone in this, so blanket statements like the above are specious at best.
And no, I don't sell prints for big bux, so whether they are going to last a hundred years is not a concern. Besides, until someone is around long enough to verify those claims, the jury is out. I've got color prints from the wet days that are fading after 20+ years. Third party inks are not necessarily lower quality than OEM. One of the reasons for the development of high quality third party inks was the dissatisfaction of B&W and fine art printers with the OEM products.
Of course the cheap refilled/knockoff carts being hawked on ebay and the like are a different story.

  • Problem printing to C paper from Lightroom (Epson 3880)

My first 17x22 print from Lightroom to my Epson 3880 didn't complete the entire image.  After 10.75" of the photo, it kept repeating the first 0.5" of it down to the bottom of the printed area.
I called Epson. At their suggestion I printed a saved Jpeg version of the same image with no problem. They said this must be a Lightroom issue, and I believe it is.  Didn't find any good answers on the web.
I use a Mac, with LR version 4.4 and have updated the Epson printer driver.
Checked Web discussions and didn't find much that might solve this problem, although I did try two things (1) Increasing the size of the Camera Raw cache, and (2) Turning off App Nap for LR.
Looked through Apple Lightroom comments and didn't find anything there either.
Any experience with this problem?  Any good answers?
[I found one post on the web by someone with a similar problem, but didn't see any answers]
Note: My first print was borderless. I tried a second print with a border, and more of the photo appeared before the first 0.5" was repeated to the end. But the size of the actual photo that was printed was about the same.  That led me to suspect some kind of memory management issue within Lightroom.

    Sean,
I'm using 16 bit output because that is recommended for highest quality by Julieanne Kost and others. I've used 16 bit output for the same image with 8.5"x11" prints with no problems.
And Lightroom should be able to handle this image!
With a 3880, compromise shouldn't be necessary.  The workarounds get results, perhaps only with loss of time and not loss of quality.
I tried a few more things.
A different image printed out normally through LR on the C paper.
I double-checked on the first image that I tried.  This has trees with plenty of leaves in the top half (high "information content")
But that had the same problem as before with the normal process, and settings as above, with the cache at 50G.
So you're right that the larger cache didn't solve the problem.
    I tried two things:
Saved as TIFF instead of Jpeg.  The TIFF file was 84.9M vs. 11.3 for the Jpeg, so I wanted to see if it posed memory problems.
Worked OK for the TIFF printed from Preview, as it had for the Jpeg. With LR closed.  I suppose that conserved system memory, but I'm not sure exactly how printing is implemented in LR.
Then I tried another experiment.  From the LR Print module, with settings as above, I saved a PDF.  This is a branch.  Earlier I had the corrupted print problem when I displayed a PDF and then printed from that, with LR still open.  That didn't work.  In the new experiment, I closed LR and everything else, and restarted the computer.
The saved PDF file is rather large - 3.52GB. Nevertheless, I opened it with Adobe Reader, used the OS Page and Printer setups as above, and was able to make a good print.
If it could be done this way, it should be possilbe for LR to do the same thing while open.  Right?
To evaluate your suggestion, Sean, I would need to do something like printing the other image with 8 bit output, in order to determine whether I can see a difference in quality from the version that printed normally with 16 bit output.
    I've been a persistent engineer/mathematician, and don't rest until I've solved a problem!
It would be nice if Adobe had a customer service line for dealing with this kind of problem.  I'm a computer/image processing scientist, but not an Adobe programmer!
    Thanks for your suggestion
    Frank

  • Color printing problems with CS5 on Mac 10.6.5

I really need some help. I installed CS5 several weeks ago on a new MacPro tower. I have used an Epson 3800 pro printer for many years with my Mac G5 and CS3 with no issues at all. Now, the color is completely off. I have kept the same settings, updated the driver and all software. When I print from photoshop the colors are perfect. When I print from InDesign or Acrobat in pdf form, the colors are all wrong; not saturated enough, too light, too dark, just wrong. I have been printing just fine for years, but since the new computer and upgrade, everything is totally off. Does anybody have any ideas? I would be so grateful.
    Thank you,
    sharon

It may also be a Mac thing. I have some recollection that for a period of time Macs were introducing the monitor profile (which they shouldn't have) into the color management equation when printing from ID, and that has changed, either with CS5 or Snow Leopard. I'm sorry I don't recall the gory details -- I'm on Windows and thus never had to deal with it -- but there should be some discussion here on the forum if you search.

  • Printing Borderless in Lightroom 3 with Epson 3880

    Hello everyone,
I'm having a tough time printing border less photos with my new Epson 3880 printer through Lightroom 3. I want to print a single image borderless.I set my printer driver for borderless (4x6 borerless retain size), then in the Print Module I make sure that my cell size is as big as my paper (4x6) and have all margins set to "0". It all looks great in the preview in LR, yet what I see on my screen is not what I get on the print. Usually it will have a white border, and sometimes it will have a white border and my photo will be cropped either form the left or the right. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, this should be a very, very simple thing (even the most embarrassingly rudimentary photo programs do it as a basic function), but alas, it isn't.  I use LR3 to process about 200-300 images a week.  But if my wife wants a simple 4x6 print of a picture, I have to use Windows Picture Viewer.  I went through two packages of 8x10 paper when I bought the program trying to accomplish this laughably basic task (maybe we don't always WANT to physically crop/mat the photos we print, Adobe); I nearly threw my printerS (yeah, I tried with two of them) out the window.  Your description of the problem--the over cropping, the arbitrarily asymmetrical borders--are dead on.  Great program, but god, is that a pain in the ***.

  • Exporting PDF problem indesign CS5

    Hello,
I'm trying to export a 72 pages document to pdf in indesign CS5 but during the exporting proces the pdf file disappeares. Who knows a solution to this problem. Thanks in advance for helping me.
    with creative greets,
    Robert Bastiaenen

what I did was saving the indd file. After that I wanted to export the HR-pdf document so I started the export and after 15 minutes teh file disappeares when it wasn't finished with saving. When i tried to save it as the smallest file size possible there was no problem and the file was exported correctly. So I allready found out that the problem can be found in de export to HD_PDF.

  • Print with indesign CS on the  Epson stylus photo R2400

    Hi,
I just bought the R2400, but find some problems by printing from indesign, I am using a power PC G4 with a 10.4.6 version.
I would like to print with the premium semigloss photo paper to have a nice photo colour feeling but the print outs are very different from the original folder, also a font directly made in indesign is printed ok but if I place an image with a logo, the logo is pixelised (if I print the same image with photoshop, the logo is fine)
If somebody could give me some advices, that would be great thanks.
    Best
    Perrine

Well, you picked the very hardest way to do it, and as time goes on, you will probably discover many other things wrong with your system as well. You CANNOT go back to Tiger from Leopard via an archive and install; you have to wipe the drive and start over from scratch, and then transfer all your data over from a backup and reinstall most, if not all, of your applications so the right elements are in the right places. Even so you'll never get your system exactly back to where it was, unless you had a perfect bootable Tiger backup (via SuperDuper) and merely restored from that. Obviously whatever Leopard element that killed your printing capability is still on your frankenstein system of BOTH Tiger and Leopard parts.
There are hundreds of posts on the issue of reverting to Tiger from Leopard, many quite detailed. So many things are changed from upgrading from one to the other that what you attempted (unless you completely wiped the drive and all your data) has always proven disastrous, which is why I highly recommended against it after reading hundreds of horror stories here.
I suggest doing a search at downgrading from Leopard to Tiger, following those instructions if you can, and making the best of it. You'll find that springing the $200 for an external drive would have been a much better and easier solution, because it can come in very handy if you ever need to do any maintenance on your internal hard drive, or if some update or problems kill your internal drive and you can't even boot the system. Not to mention sooner or later always needing more storage capability, and even a drive for reliable backups.
I would never dream of attempting a downgrade or needing to do it in the first place (having taken precautions as to never have to), so I can't give you any further advice than that.

  • Printer problem with Airport Utility and Epson CX5500

    Hi,
I recently bought an iMac '24 2.66 Computer and was able to set up my internet through an airport. When it came to hooking up a wireless Epson CX5500 printer, the airport recognized it, but when it came to print in the printing queue it simply wont print. I was able to find a very helpful post that would possibly be my next step in fixing it (probably just a program error or hook up)
    Here is that post:

    +Hi there,+
+I had the same problem, but with an Epson CX5500.+
+Firstly, BTW - I found out there IS a list of supported printers: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1370?viewlocale=en_US. Before you scream - "that's leopard you idiot"; in the table, if the printer is listed with a MODERN driver, then it will work with Airport Base Station - eg TimeCapsule.+
+Next. My problem was solved by deleting the spaces put into the printer name by timecapsule. When the printer is recognised it was called "Epson CX 5500". My Macbook printer service then set up a Queue which was mdns://...Epson%20CX%205500... Note - substitution of %20 for space in the name. I removed the spaces from the name via airport utility, manual set up, printers. Now the macbook could print to it.+
    Cheers,
    Mark
The problem that i have is the step by step process of altering this or finding it. As i made the name of the shared printer EPSONStylusCX5500 but could not acess the printer name one to change it. The url link still shows the 20%. If someone could please take the time to explain on how to do it, then maybe just maybe, i would be able to print wirelessly. Any other ideas or even cheap printers that would work without a problem as i would simply go out and buy one instead. Thanks.

    When you say.....
I cannot get it to work with AirPort Utility....
What does not work?  Can you open up AirPort Utility and  take us through the steps? What happens after each step?

  • AAMEE 2.1.80.0 Problems - Indesign CS5.5 Deployment

    Hi,
im working in an IT Department and recently started to do real software deployment.
So i have a access to a multiuser license of several adobe programs and suites and my first try was to pack up Indesign CS5.5.
Well im using AAMEE 2.1.80 and created a mis packages successful but i cant get it to install.
Im using following command on my test System:
    (First killing firefox then)
    "msiexec /qn /i path-to-cs5\Build\InDesignCS5_5.msi"
The installation seems to run fine for quite a while, even the InDesign icon appears in start menu but then it starts to remove the whole package again.
Windows Log just tells me that msiexec quit with a 1603 error but i cant finde any more detailed log for the installation.
After several new packages (with updates, lincense etc) i also tried the manual instalation (no with a package created by aamee) and it works fine without any errors.
    Im really getting frustrated :-/
Why does the normal installer work fine but the created package crashes all the time with 1603 error?
btw i tried all the method on the adobe page (deleted temp, unreg and so on) nothing did help and there is also no detailed log why the installer crashes.
    Thanks!

I am also having this issue on a x64 bit machine.
    I desperately need a fix.
I am not getting any information as to why this could be happening.
    Thanks,
    Toby

  • Printing in InDesign CS5

I just purchased CS5 for my Windows 7 computer and am printing for the first time to my Epson RX595 printer.  I go into the print settings in InDesign and go to the printer settings to select Best Photo.  When I say OK, go out of the printer settings and then go back in, it has reverted by to the Text settings.  I have the newest printer driver for Windows 7 64-bit.  I can go directly to the printer driver and change the settings and they stay in place.  Has anyone experienced this issue?  Any ideas on a resolution (obviously, I can go directly to the printer driver and change it for my printing, but that is a pain since I have to remember to change it back for all my other printing).
    Thanks, Steve

Wow, thank you!!!  I actually did search pretty thoroughly on the web as well as a moderate search these forums, but oddly enough, I somehow overlooked that thread.  Funny, as it was only from several days ago.
My computer never had ADPDF9.PPD in the first place.  Any clue why this is?
    Many thanks,
