Printing problems with CS5 and Epson Photo R2880 printer

I'm having problems getting good prints when using Photoshop CS5 with my Epson Photo R2880 printer, problems I never had with CS4. Here's the situation:
If I take a PSD file and print it using CS4, everything works out perfectly. But if I take that same PSD file and print it out using CS5, the print is now offset top to bottom, as well as left to right, along with a 1/8" black strip being printed down the right edge of the paper. As far as I can tell, everything is set the same.
I've compared all the print information found in the Print dialog summary box between CS4 and CS5 and everything appears to be the same. I've verified that I'm using the latest print driver with my printer, and I am. It's 8.27.  I've verified that I've checked off the box to center the print to the paper, each time I've made a print. And in trying to figure out what's going on, I've discovered that this problem occurs with any paper size when using CS5, but not with CS4.
I'm stumped and frustrated and without any more ideas as to what I should do next, except to always print my projects using CS4. If anyone has an idea for me, please let me know! Thanks!
P.s. I'm new at using this forum, and though I thought I sent this out once already, I never saw it posted. If I'm in error and it's already out there, sorry for the mistake and posting it twice.

Only if that works well should you be trying third-party materials. For example, third-party inks in general are of poorer quality, are inconsistent, clog more, and in the long run, do not save you anywhere the amount of money they advertise over the genuine Epson products."
Getting very nice results with an R1800, Inkjetfly CIS, and Red River paper. The R1800 has never had Epson ink run through it and has no abnormal clogging problems. In fact, clogs are rare.
Getting near perfect matches to the monitor with both Colorvision and x-rite calibrating/profiling equipment. The printer stays on 24-7 so the only ink used, other than printing, is a periodic nozzle check. I am not alone in this, so blanket statements like the above are specious at best.
And no, I don't sell prints for big bux, so whether they are going to last a hundred years is not a concern. Besides, until someone is around long enough to verify those claims, the jury is out. I've got color prints from the wet days that are fading after 20+ years. Third party inks are not necessarily lower quality than OEM. One of the reasons for the development of high quality third party inks was the dissatisfaction of B&W and fine art printers with the OEM products.
Of course the cheap refilled/knockoff carts being hawked on ebay and the like are a different story.

Recently upgraded to CS3 and have now lost most printing options for Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Had no problems with CS2 running in Leopard. Anyone know what has happened?

  • Can't open print settings with CS5 and Epson R1900

In Photoshop CS5, go to File > Print.  In the Print dialogue window, click on Print Settings... and no response.  The blue Print button in the lower right corner flashes when I click, but nothing else happens.
I've tried running Photoshop in 32-bit mode as well.  Doesn't behave differently.
Running on a Mac Pro 2.26 GHz (most current generation).
    12 GB RAM
    OS 10.6.4
Printer is connected to Airport Extreme USB (most current generation).
Can successfully print with CS4; seems to be a new issue with CS5.
Hope I've included enough info to troubleshoot this problem.
    Thanks for any help!
    Brian,.

I've been trying to trouble shoot this problem since the beginning of September. I wasn't sure if it was a snow leopard issue, a Driver issue, or a CS5 issue. I guess it's CS5. I recently discovered the work around of asking Photoshop to manage the colors, opening the print settings, saving, then returning to printer managing colors but this just doesn't cut it in our graphics lab. We need the settings to be as straight forward as possible for our students.
Also, unrelated sort of, Photoshop remembers the settings from the previous print job. Which again doesn't work well in a lab/public environment. So if jimmy printed 20 copies of a file and set it to print colors as gray; Susie, the next in line, would have the same print settings for her file. This seems to only happen with photoshop. Not Preview, not safari, nor any other program.
We're seriously considering moving back to CS4.
...at least that had contact sheets.

  • Printing problem in cs5 and imac 27

I have been running my Epson Stylus Pro 4800 on a macbook pro and cs3, for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever. I have now upgraded to a new iMac 27"and have had nothing but problems with the 4800. I have made my own profils and used Epson paper profiles but the prints are not as colourful as they used and totally wrong as well. I am also getting totally oversized prints compared to what image seize in ps is set to be.....for example, I have been doing a 10x21 test picture on Premium Lustre paper (photoshop is managing the colours through CS5, but it is printing the image at least 1,5 the size that it should be. All my settings are correct, dpi is 300, I'm printing at 1440dpi resolution on the correct profiles for the paper. I am at a loss to understand why this is happening. Is anyone able to assist me?
I can do the printing in preview  and that is looking quite ok. But trough photoshop it is bad colors and wrong size on the print.
    Regards Ulfja

I saw you're having a printing problem with CS5 while using an Epson printer. I'm having a problem too. Read my situation and see if you think it's similiar to yours. I posted this about an hour ago but have not heard from anyone yet.

I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. The colors I'm getting in my prints from CS5 seem to be alright, but not the positioning on paper. It keeps offsetting and running a black stripe down one side. Fortunately I have CS4 on my computer that I can use to print from, but it shouldn't be this way.
    Good luck!

  • Illustrator cs4 and Epson Stylus R2880 printing problems

I am having printing problems.  I am trying to print from my cs4 to my epson stylus photo printer r2880 and am having problem with my picture getting cut off on the left side when I print.  The print screen looks perfect but when I go to print, it always cuts off the left edge and the bottom.  I tried playing with the x and y's but have no idea what I am doing.  Does anyone have this combination of cs4 with the R2880 printer and can help me solve my problem?

    Hi Wade,
I have tried playing around with that but I am not sure what I am doing.  Here's what it is set at.
On my drop down print screen, i have the size set as US Letter (Sheet Feeder Borderless (retain size).
When I check the 'fit to page' button it actually puts a bigger white boarder around it.  The fit to page number says (96.4706%).  Shouldn't it say 100%?  If I leave it as do not scale I still have a small border around it.
I am not sure about the xy settings.  When I have it to 'fit to page' it is:
Top left corner (0,0)  Top right corner (0,0)
Bottom left corner (0, .1632)  Bottom right corner (0, .1632)
If I have do not scale button clicked:
Top left corner (0,0)  Top right corner (0,0)
Bottom left corner (0, -.225)  Bottom right corner is (-.3, -.225)
Do these settings look correct?  If not, what should my setting say and how can I set it without the setting changing back everytime I open this window.
    Thanks for responding,
    Celeste

  • Problem with Lightroom and Epson Printer

I'm suddenly having problems printing from Lightroom. I have Lightroom 1.4.1 installed on an iMac G5, and have an Epson Photo Stylus R2400. I've been using this combination from the beginning with no problems. Now suddenly when I try to print I get an error message that says Media is out or not loaded correctly. Neither is the case. I have tried restarting my computer, the printer and everything else I can think of, but nothing works. I can print from any other application without problems, so I'm assuming it's an issue with Lightroom.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I was going to uninstall lightroom and do a reinstall but I can't find my installation disc. Now I'm at a loss to figure out what to do.
    Thanks,
    Craig

Try deleting you prefs file and/or print templates.
Lightroom is unique to many other programs in that it saves and restores printer settings. Some bad data may tried to be passes. A "fresh start" might help.

  • Image printing problem with Photoshop and Lightroom specifically with 11X14 cuts off top of image and moves bottom border up. Windows 7 OS - Epson Printer is working properly.

Have an unprecedented problem with printing 11X14 photos in both PS and Lightroom. The printer is operataing properly. Printing 81/2X11 correctly. Have double and triple checked all the printing settings and they are correct. Have checked with friends to no avail. This problem started yesterday. Widows 7 OS. Need help.

You show the OS receiving an image from Photoshop, and the OS starting the Epson print driver and handing it part of the image, the driver connects to the printer, then the print driver fails. It looks like a bug in the Epson rasterizer, or the printer communication.
You really need to talk to Epson.  Photoshop isn't involved in that error.

  • Prinitng issue with CS5 and Epson pro3800 printer

CS5 will not hold printer driver settings after leaving driver setup screen. Eg., after setting ICM and choosing Adobe RGB color space and icc profile from menu, when you click OK, Adobe screen reverts to Photoshop adjusts colors and not printer adjust colors as it should. If you change the setting manually, when you renetr driver setup, it now shows 'no color management and not ICM as it should. This does not occur with CS3 or 4. Any help is appreciated.

I don't have this problem but i can tell you printing out of CS5 is a mess nothing works the way it should....check out my forum i started... right now i just chucked cs5 and went back to cs3

  • Printing problem with cc and cs6 with epson 7890

    Hi everyone,
I am having a serious printing problem. I use CC (14.2.1) and CS 6 (13.0.6) on Mavericks 10.9.1 on an iMac. If I try to make a print on a 24" roll I get an error message: cupsRasterinterpretPDD has an error = page header unsupported values. If I print A2 or A3 sheets everything works fine.
I contacted Epson because I thought it was a printer problem, but they insist it is a photoshop problem. I updated to the latest printerdriver.
Does anyone have any ideas or even better a solution?

I feel your pain, but I don't know the solution, sorry. Our Mac guru who primarily serves designers is not upgrading any of his clients to Mavericks so far, due to printing (and other) issues. Se we're still on 10.8.4 here.

  • Print quality with Aperture and Epson RX580

    Hi all,
I feel like I've tried everything, but I just can't get Aperture (the latest version with all the updates) to print from my MacBook Pro on my Epson photo printer the way I could from other photo software on my old PCs.  On my old PCs, when I would print a photo from Canon DPP or Capture One, or even the Windows photo management software, I get a rich menu of dialogue boxes for the Epson printer offering different qualities of prints, different papers to choose from, "photo enhancement," and lots of other options.  Prints came out sharp, colorful, and just great.
When I print from Aperture, I get none of these options (I get color management and resolution, and that's about it).
When I print from Aperture, I get vertical lines in the prints, visible dots, and pixellation.  So what I do is email the "exported" versions to my daughter's PC laptop and print from there -- and get good results.  Boy, that's a pain.
Surely Aperture can do better than this.  So what am I missing?  Any ideas for what I should be doing?
    Thank you.

Canon MP990 and Macbook pro (os X snow lep.. and Lion) - Lines in prints in Aperture.
While a bit vague I got there and found the distinction between the printer driver managing it and the printer managing the photo quality causing the issues.
I could only transfer the pic's to iphoto and print for ( admitedly about the same time of more than a year).
    The FIX
in the first window after selecting print scroll down to rendering and select printer managed.
Select all the other settings you need then select print on the right bottom of this window.
This next dialogue box at the bottom is a show details button then a new set of menus are present (initial is layout in a pull down menu)  select color matching then automatic ( you can change this but it worked so if it is not broken I'll play later ).
You should have clear prints with no lines...

  • Printing problem with Pages and iWork

This problem has been troubling me for months. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 colour inkjet printer. I have installed the latest s/w drivers so it's all up to date as far as I'm aware. The problem is that when printing from Pages - or indeed any iWork application, I select 'normal' print quality and 'plain' paper, but the printer refuses to print in anything other than 'high quality'. Even if I choose 'draft' quality, the printer prints high quality. I print lots of reports and never need 'high quality' besides which it takes 4 times longer to print and uses twice as much ink (and looks dreadful on the paper I use).
Now here is the even odder thing, the printer prints as directed to Office 08, Mail, Safari and Text Edit. But I have the same problem of it ignoring my printing options in iPhoto and iCal. It also works fine from my wife's PC.
HP has been truly hopeless in trying to sort out the problem. I have reinstalled the drivers many times and cleared out all kinds of files as directed by them. The problem originated in November last year when I upgraded to Leopard.
I have installed the following drivers as directed by HP: HPInstaller_OJPK5400v9.7.1, HP v9.7Inkjet OS X 10.5 Update.
Hope someone out there can help.

Perhaps I should invest in another inkjet printer. Are you saying I should avoid HP and Epson? In which case how about Canon? Would that work or are there others you could recommend.
Good question. IMHO there is no reason to reject any particular make and model of inkjet, but there is also no reason to suppose that the supplier will support that make and model beyond its short lifetime which is sort of supposed to be the lifetime of the version of the operating system for which the 'dumb' raster driver was developed. It's just the way it is, unfortunately.
One should purchase the type of printer product that suits one's purpose. For proofing of copy a black and (single colourant) grayscale laser is superior to an inkjet. For proofing of photographs a colour inkjet which is correctly calibrated, correctly characterised, and for which colourants are correctly converted in the colour correction software and pagination software can hit within 1-2 dE of the print on a press operated with automatic colour control.
Sorry to be so unhelpful, but there are four printers and shelves of software here, and it's not simple, unfortunately.

  • Printing problems with Elements and iPhoto on OSX 10.5.7

I am having problems with printing photos on my printer (Canon iP4000) since getting the new iMac with OSX (10.5.7) and using Photoshop Elements 6 and iPhoto. The Canon printer driver (and all my other data) were copied to my Mac by the techs at the Apple store from which I purchased the iMac. (I previously had a Mac G4 with OSX 10.4.11 Panther.)
Photos that used to come out crystal clear and brilliant on the printer from the G4, now are faint with kind of a white veil. When I try to print in Elements, I get a message that says "Some PostScript specific print settings (Interpolation, Calibration, Encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer." I really have no idea what that means. Anybody?
Text printing comes out fine, both from word processing documents and web pages. I am using the latest printer driver (4.8.3) for the iP4000 (probably 4 years old or so), and there are no new driver downloads available for it. I trashed the Canon software/drivers and reinstalled, to no avail.
Canon Support has been helpful and have made many suggestions, but none has worked. I tried printing with Canon's EasyPhotoPrint app, and the photos print fine. So the problem appears to be a compatibility of the printer with Elements 6 and iPhoto.
Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone have an opinion if this means I need to get a new printer? If so, any suggestions on a good, moderately priced one for Leopard on the iMac that will definitely work with Elements 6 and iPhoto?

The v4.8.3 driver she has is the latest version Canon has supplied.
Given the driver is working okay from some other applications, there has to be something amiss with the colour management of iPhoto and PSE6.
For iPhoto, as a test I would suggest the Color Options > Color Correction is set to None to see how this impacts the printed image. Then I would try the BJ Standard and ColrSync settings to see how the output is affected.
During the Color Options trial, ensure the Quality & Media > Media Type is set to the appropriate paper type, such as Photo Paper and the Print Mode be set to Top Quality Photo. With regards to the Media Type setting, some of the paper stocks have a profile associated with them. If you use Photo paper but use the Plain setting, then you will get a washed out print.

  • CS5 and Epson 3800. Prints Too Dark.

I've seen old posts about this, but nothing recent with this configuration of software and OS:
After years of printing successfully with my Epson 3800 from a PC, I  recently switched to a Mac (Mac OS X 10.6). I am using Photoshop CS 5.
Despite many iterations of monitor calibration trying different  settings, my prints are consistently about 2 stops too dark. I'm very  vexed.
What is the latest information about this and how do  I resolve this?
    Thank you.

  • Problems with CS3 and Epson 4800

I am running Leopard on a Pro tower with CS3. I have a Dell laser printer along with a 4800. A few weeks ago, I set the Dell to be the default printer. All my prints on the Epson started coming out extremely flat, not matching my calibrated monitor at all. I finally set the 4800 to be the default printer and the prints looked normal again. No idea why that would happen. It baffles me. Driver conflict?
However, I am still having two problems. First, when I soft proof, the soft proof screen looks nothing like the print. I am selecting the correct print profile in the Custom screen. The soft proof looks dark and weird.
Second, the gamut warning is greyed out and unavailable to me, regardless of anything I try.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong or suggestions for fixes?
    Thanks
