Printing RAW-images from Lightroom 1.3

When I print RAW-images directly from Lightroom 1.3 (to a Canon Pixma 8500) I get a distinct pink bias in the red colors. The same happens with exported TIFF-file in Prophoto RGB-format. I suppose that's the color space also used with the RAW-format so that's probably what's causing the problem. Printing TIFF-exports in Adobe RGB works fine. Is there a straight forward way to avoid this problem and print the correct colors from RAW/TIFF-Prophoto format?

Are you calibrating your screen using a hardware profiler? If not, you cannot possibly expect the colors to print as you see them on the screen. Next, how are you printing? managed by Lightroom or Managed by printer? The color space of the original (RAW does not have a color space BTW) is immaterial in principle. If you are printing managed by Lightroom, you need to absolutely make sure you turn off color management in the printer driver and that you choose the right profile for the paper you are printing on. Most of the times either of those is what is done wrong. If you are printing managed by driver, you should be aware that some drivers are not correctly written to color manage. I doubt the driver for that printer is though.
>The same happens with exported TIFF-file in Prophoto RGB-format.
How are your printing this? The space of the source should not matter in a color managed workflow. So if you use something like photoshop, there should be no difference whatsoever between printing a ppRGB TIFF and a adobeRGB tiff as both will get converted to the printer profile.

I'm trying to export a raw image from lightroom 5.6 to Photoshop cc 2014 2.1.  I right click to export menu in lightroom as I've always done to export to Photoshop.  Photoshop opens, but it can't open file, window opens to find a file to open.  I'd like this to export my lightroom images to edit in photoshop as it has always been able to do for me.  What fix do you recommend?

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Exporting RAW images from Lightroom 5

My continuing story of space issues. Find that I'm rapidly running out of space now that my wife has been uploading way too many 24 mpixel files (~30Gb total) to my Lightroom 5 catalog. Is there any way to export her RAW files to a thumb drive or another external hard drive?  The only export functions I see are conversions to Jpegs.

Well, dmontabana, I think you have outsmarted yourself.
Export with File Settings as original gives you an unedited photo, with no keywords or other user-created metadata. Furthermore if you have "cleaned up a lot of badly needed disk space", which I assume means you deleted the originals, your Lightroom catalog now thinks the photos are missing, and you will have to do extra work to reconnect the photos in Lightroom.

  • I can't see previews of RAW images from a Canon PowerShot G16 in Lightroom 4

I can't see previews of RAW images from a Canon PowerShot G16 in Lightroom 4?

For that camera, you need at least Lightroom 5.2. The alternative would be to use the DNG converter, version 8.2 or later. Or, you can upgrade to Lightroom 5.

I have Lightroom 3.6 and it does not recognize the raw images from my canon 7d mark II, suggestions, do I need to upgrade?

Yes, you need an upgrade for native support in Lightroom. You need version 5.70 or higher; current version is 5.71.
Alternatively, you could use the most recent DNG converter and convert the raw files to DNG files before importing into Lightroom.

  • How set Elements9 Organizer as default to upload raw images from card reader? Defaults to Lightroom

How do I set Elements9 Organizer as my default to upload raw images from computer's  sd card reader?  It defaults to Lightroom.

The two raw files you've uploaded to dropbox are corrupted so Lightroom and Photoshop are giving you the correct message.  At least with these two, the embedded JPG preview is there but the raw data is not correct so cannot be rendered.  Here is the error that Canon's own software gives when the files are attempted to be edited:
You should reattempt to copy the images from the memory cards to your computer using a card reader and an operating-system function (Explorer or Finder) to do it rather than LR or a cable connected to the camera, then see if things work any better.  If you already used a card reader, then try a different one and see if the situation improves.
If you cannot get a better set of images by retransferring them, then we can work through how to extract the embedded JPG previews en masse.

You can visit the Lightroom Journal to see the new features of LR6/CC, including new cameras supported in this release:
Lightroom Journal | Tips and advice straight from the Lightroom team.
And yes, as DJ confirmed, the Nikon D7200 is listed.
The the full list of supported cameras is here (Lightroom and Camera Raw have compatible engines and identical support):

  • Photoshop CS-6 does not open images from Lightroom 5

I do have Photoshop CS-6 and Lightroom 5.  Nearly all images were created in a Windows 7 (64 bit) environment.  I have moved platforms to MAC. I have moved all images and the Catalog. I have changed platform to MAC. I am now using MAC OS-X (10.9.1).
I am able to see all images in Lightroom, I am able to modify all images in Lightroom. I can export the images to Jpeg (for example) from Lightroom.  I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
First time I have tried to open an Image from Lightroom (hand over) Photoshop opens, but does not show any picture and no error message. But when I then look to recently opened files, the image is in the list. When I do click on this, Photoshop shows and error message: "the datamodule can not handle the file format" (which is either RAW or jpeg).
Another expirience is, when I try to open directly from Photoshop any other image, Photoshop ignores the XMP and opens the original file without any modification.

That's normal if the raw files were originally edited in Lightroom. Lightroom stores all edits in the catalog, not the xmp sidecar. You can set Lightroom to write to xmp as well, but that slows it down a little and so it's off by default. The Lightroom shortcut ctrl/cmd+S will also save to xmp.
I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
That's related to the above, and also normal if you go the other way - edit in ACR and then move to Lightroom. It'll then be in xmp, but not the Lightroom catalog.
As for the missing on-screen image, that's a common video driver bug (although I suppose other causes are possible). For Windows you can download updated drivers directly from the manufacturer's website, but that's not possible with Mac. You'll have to wait for Apple to fix it.

  • Send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object"

how to send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object" not a flat "image" so it does not flatten the image but so I still get all the adjustments i have made in lightroom to show up in photoshop?

Select the image in Lightroom, choose 'Edit in' from Photo menu then choose 'Open as Smart Object in Photoshop'. The file will transfer to Photohop (Ps) complete with Lr applied edits which can be refined in Camera Raw by double clicking on icon in the Ps Layers panel (see screen shot).

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.

  • Can't open a raw file from Lightroom to Photoshops ACR

I got used to using Lightroom 3 as a place to catalogue and store my images but still process my Raw files in Adobe Photoshops Raw Convertor. Now that I have Lightroom 5 I can't find out how to do this.  With version 3 I just highlighted say 3 files and hit command E.
I know I can open an image as a smart object and go about it that way but I can't open multiple images from Lightroom to ACR.
I know people will say '' hey well do your Raw work in Lightroom'' but I got used to using the Photoshop Raw convertor and I spent a lot of time and money learning it.
Surely there is a way to open say three images from L5 to ACR ???
Please help this has been driving me nuts, It's suggested I will need to start using Bridge but I'm bewildered and don't want to start learning something new.
    Thanks in advance.

It has been a long time since I even had Lightroom 3 installed on my computer.  I don't recall the behavior you are describing.  ACR is used to translate the adjustments made in Lightroom as the image is transferred to Photoshop.  You may have become accustomed to a certain behavior, but it doesn't work that way.  The process of moving from Lightroom to Photoshop works on the assumption that you have done your raw adjustments using Lightroom, and you are now passing that image to Photoshop.

  • RAW images in Lightroom 3

When I import my RAW images into Lightroom 3 (for Mac), they look great until I click on an image to view it.  Then, automatically Lightroom changes the coloring and quality of my image.  It makes it look terrible!  I didn't even click on any presets or sliders.  I want my images to look the way they do when I first import them.  Is there a setting that I need to turn off or change?

Digital cameras capture images in a raw format.and depending on the camera model you have you have the option to allow the camera to process the raw data and provide a jpeg / Tiff image file you can view on your computer. You may also have the option for your camera to retain the raw data and have this processed by software provided by your camera manufacturer.
You also have the option to use third party raw processing software to process the raw data, Lightroom / Adobe ACR, are one of these providers. Third party raw processing software use their own proprietory processes and profiles to carry out this process. They are all different to your camera manfacturer processes which are proprietory so what your are seeing is expected, you are being provided with an alternative to what your camera manufacturer provides.
Have a look at the following article from an independent source.
      http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/u-raw-files.shtml
Lightroom provides you with lots of tools to be creative in generating an alternative rendition of the raw data or also creating your own preset to match the rendition created by your camera.

  • Downloading RAW images into Lightroom 4

I just switched to Mac from PC and I am not able to download my RAW images (from Canon Mark iii) into Lightroom 4.  Anyone know a fix for this problem?

Once you buy LR 5 you can install any of the LR 5.x versions where LR 5.7 just came out and supports the newest cameras, like the Nikon D750 or Canon 7D Mark II along with all earlier models.
It would be wise to download and install the LR 5.7 as a trial and make sure it works for you before buying the upgrade.  The minimum OS is 10.7 and Win 7, I think, so if you’re on XP or Vista or OS X 10.6 then you’re out of luck.
The various version of LR are available on the Adobe Updates site:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
They will run in trial mode for 30 days or until you enter appropriate serial numbers.

  • Sending images from lightroom 5 to elements 12 for panorama.

Hello. I have elements 12 and lightroom 5 installed. I go to send 5 images from lightroom to send to elements to do the pano. When I select the 5 images I want I click go to edit and then select merge in panorama. It then opens up elements 12 but after waiting for some time the images font show up. It used to work but now it don't. In lightroom 5 I have it set in the presences right so my external editor is elements 12. After a while I looked in my pictures section in windows and lo and behold all my images that I have sent to elements to do psn os with are in pictures section as raw files. So lightroom is sending them but not to my external editor.
Can someone please help me this is very frustrating.
thanks for any help you can offer me.

Which version of Lightroom 5 do you have?
Which version of camera raw are you using in photoshop elements 12?
In Lightroom what are the preferences at the top of the External Editing tab set to?
I realize that yours may be different, because you don't have photoshop installed, but here even though photoshop cc 2014 is on this machine, as long as i have pse 12 and not cc 2014 open before
choosing Photo>Edit in>Merge to Panorama in Photoshop, it does work for pse 12 with nikon nef files (camera raw files), but it uses the preferences at the top of the external editing tab instead of the ones below.
So if the Bit Depth is not set to to 8 bits/channel then photomerge doesn't work.
