Printing seems to randomly stop for individual machines

I run a network of about 25 Macs with about 8 different printers. All of our machines run on either 10.3.9 or Tiger, up to 10.4.9. I have noticed, on occasion that individual machines will not be able to print. Most printing is done through shared printers via the Xserve. We also have a couple shared through USB. I have done the standard steps of trouble shooting each time (Make sure the printer is on, full of paper, make sure the printer on the specific computer does not state that the jobs are stopped, make sure that the Printers are not stopped on the Xserve, make sure the computer is connected to the network, etc.).
The thing that seemingly links these stoppages together is not a specific program (it has happened in 4D, MS Office 2004, Vectorworks, etc.), and it has not been a specific time nor computer. The link is in how I have corrected the problem. The only way that I have been able to rectify this situation has been to Reset Printing System and then open the Disk Utility and repair permissions (There are several permission related to CUPS printing that change when resetting the system) and then re-adding the printers individually. While this works, it is only a temporary fix. The problem does reoccur on the machines intermittently.
Does anyone have this same issue? Does anyone know another method to figure out what is going on? Does anyone know a way to get this information to the Apple techs so that they can try to determine a future fix?
Help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using "Printer Setup Repair"? You can
find it at versiontracker.com. There is differnt
versions for different osx's.
I have not tried that as of yet. I will look into it. Thanks

Server randomly unavailable for Time Machine after upgrading to 10.5.7

My MacMini server has file sharing permanently on. Since upgrading to 10.5.7 (not the server edition) it seems to stop being available at about 4 PM every day. I notice this as Time Machine stops working (it backs up to the server).
If I link to the server with Screen Sharing or Remote Desktop I can see and access it. If I however try to contact it via any sharing method it does not show.
A restart fixes it for the rest of the day. (BTW server starts at 06.00 and shuts down at 23.00)
Any idea how to fix this?

I did and I could find nothing hat I could relate. however I keep finding blocks of the below and am not sure as to what it could mean and if it could be the culprit. FYI I have a quicktime process running all the time on the server.

The synch process seems to hang (stop) for my iphone 3

AppleTV + iPhone randomly stops playing music.

My dad bought a appletv a few days ago and i set it up in his living room, about 40 feet from the wireless router, and it has 4 bars in the wireless settings menu. Everything is working fine, except when playing music to the appletv over airplay, it will randomly stop for 1 second, and automatically resume. Sometimes it will stop, and even disconnect him from the appletv completely, and he will have to go in and start streaming to it again.
Now, i have an iPhone too, and mine works fine. No pausing or disconnecting at all. I have the latest iOS, and my dad had i think 4.3 or something. So I updated him, thinking that would fix the problem, and at first it seemed it had, but after 5 or so songs, it was still randomly pausing for 1 second, then it would start right back up again.
This was happening in both Pandora and local music on the iPhone.
And again, mine works fine 4G verizon, it was his iPhone 4G AT&T that was having the problem.
Any ideas?

I had this issue when using music over iCloud / iTunes Match. I downloaded the songs to the iPhone and problem solved

K8t800 onboard sound randomly stops until restart

my onboard sound seems to randomly stop working at times.
my 5.1 speakers have a power/volume knob that clicks the power off when you turn the knob all the way down.
the only consistency i've found is that sometimes i'll turn the volume all the way down, but stop before actually turning the speakers off.
then i'll go away for a while and come back to a computer with absolutely no audio.
i don't think the problem is with the speakers, because i can reboot and my sound comes back. i've also tried cycling power on the speakers via the power switch and also unplugging the whole system.
i've never been listening to music and then had the sound go out. it only happens when i leave the computer for a while and then come back.
my only guess is the gnomes that live under my desk are playing tricks on me.

I consulted my grandmother on this one. She said the gnomes could be unhappy. U need to leave some oatmeal on the floor for them to eat. This could make them stop sabotaging ur computer

I do think it is ur sound system. My subwoofer turns off when I don't use it, or when the sound is very faint.
It switches itself on again when it is feeded louder sounds.
Subwoofers use power doing nothing, so I gues it is a usefull feature.

In transferring data to a new Macbook Pro it seems to have stopped making progress.

In transferring data to a a new MacBook Pro from a MacBook using migration assistant, the progress seems to have stopped (for about 3 hours) and still shows 2 hours and 16 minutes remaining. The blue progress bar looks active but hasn't moved in the last 3 hours.

There might be a problem with the directory on the old Mac. Try verifying the old Mac's internal HD, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
Another option would be to transfer from Time Machine or "bootable clone" backups of the old Mac on an external HD.
In either event, you'll want to start over. See the green box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for instructions.

Logic Pro Midi Keyboard Randomly Stops

Hi, I am fairly new to Logic Pro 9 and music composition software in general. I have a Yamaha P85 keyboard that I am using with Logic. I use an E-MU midi 2x2 to hook it up to my computer (imac 2011). The keyboard has a midi in/out slots where I have a midi cable in the midi OUT slot. It connects to my E-MU midi device in the midi IN slot. A usb cable connects the midi device to my computer. The keyboard is recognized in my computer MIDI settings and works in Logic Pro. The problem is when im recording in logic or just playing, the keyboard will randomly stop for a few seconds (no sound when I hit keys) and nothing will be recorded during this period (if I'm recording). After 1-5 seconds the keyboard will work again. This happens randomly even when I'm not recording in Logic. Another problem is sometimes, also randomly, a note will be held (sustained) when I'm not holding down the key. Again, this happens in Logic whether I'm recording or not. I have searched a lot online and read many forums, but I cannot find an answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So yes I am playing on the virtual instruments. No separate audio device. I have external speakers plugged into my computer so when I play my keyboard through Logic, sound comes out of my computer external speakers and not the keyboard speakers(I turn the keyboard volume off). The problem I described happens for the various virtual instruments I have tried, strings, woodwinds, pianos etc. In the Logic audio settings it says
Output Device: Built in Output
Input Device: Built in Microphone
I/O Buffer Size: 256 samples
When I say the keyboard stops, I mean no sound comes out of my computer speakers for a few seconds. It is as if someone turns the keyboard off for a few seconds and then back on. This happens in Logic when Im trying out different virtual instruments. You are correct when saying it happens only when Logic is running whether I am recording MIDI or just playing and NOT recording. I hope that makes sense. It wouldn't be such a huge problem, but it happens so often it makes it hard to play or record something thats longer than 10 seconds. Thanks for the help.

10.5.3 AFP support for Time machine?

Seems that AFP support for Time machine isn't yet available in 10.5.3... At least I wasn't able to get it working with my iMac and QNAP TS-209. Has someone been able to get it working after updating to 10.5.3?
According to news ("Time Machine backupd and new AFP backups")about beta seeds of the 10.5.3 there has been implemented AFP support for the Time machine. Does Apple pulled it off again before final release? I would like to use time machine with my NAS, but seems I have to keep using 3rd party apps for that...
I start to be very disappointed about Apple, because they haven't manage to get it working/enabled yet. It feels that Apple just doesn't want to enable it, because they would like to sell Time capsule for all.... I hope this isn't the case.

Never believe any news from beta seeds. They are unreliable, and should be taken with a huge grain of salt. As for whether or not a feature was pulled who knows, except people under non-disclosure. Those who test betas are under requirement to stay mum. We can't guess Apple's policy. Please read terms of use on the right But unless you find it in the feature listing for the update, I would surmise it isn't there, unless someone has managed a hack around. I have the canon MX880 series. Why do it stop printing when not in use for about 30 days?

As stated in the subject line, my printer seems to stop printing after sitting for a few weeks. I don't know how I end up getting it to print again, I just keep trying different things and with luck some how it starts to print again, SOMETIMES. However, today I did not get it to print at all. It will not work with WIFI or the USB cord. I have had this printer for about a year and have had this problem every since.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mail randomly stops checking for new mail

I've got a PowerMac that keeps Mail open full time. Recently, Mail just randomly stops working and no new messages from my Exchange server are downloaded. This only started within the past two weeks. Either the program is just sitting there with no evidence of function, or there is a continual spinning wheel by my Exchange inbox icon. Restarting Mail seems to be the only solution I've found. I am also running Mail Act-On, Mail Tags, and Mail attachments iconizer. Any ideas on what could be causing this behavior?

Possibly by using an Airport Express, but depends on what type of port connection the printer requires.

Most likely, water damage.
You can try putting your iPod in a tupperware, half filled (maybe half inch) with rice grains, close the cover for about a week.
If you have done this, as soon as it got wet, higher chances of success, now looks like the water moisture is getting to the LCD screen.
Then you can always bring it to Apple Genius bar, for a an overhaul. (may cost you half the price of a new iPod classic.)
