Printing solutions

Experienced user of Lr since Lr3,0 and all subsequent upgrades. WinPC Vista and 7, HP 6-color printer, Sony a-550, also PsE and CS5. I do not use Bridge or Mini. I can perform most functions in Lr with only occasional use of Ps. I take mostly natural or ambient light pics except at certain indoor paid gigs (photojournalist style). I use professional labs to print customer jobs for wallet to fireplace size portraits. Proofs at Wal-Mart or Sam's. I have used books and forums to resolve my learning and question needs after watching teaching videos @ Adobe, et al. Now that I understand Lr I am a firm believer and I advise all serious  "shooters" to learn to  use Lr. I have altered my workflow and processes  since going all digital and I have learned from everyone's help,  other's errors and from my many errors. However my question now comes after hours of searching and reading, including 13 pages of this forum's answers. I am now trying to print on HP photo paper proofs/low res prints at home but Lr is fighting me all the way. For this discussion I will stay with a standard US size- the 4x6.
When trying to print a Lr or Ps corrected pic with the settings to that certain paper size and dpi I get "cropped prints" in borderless settings. Color and sharpness are within requirements but the prints seem to run off the paper and are therefore not as I see them on the monitor. I have to set margins of of .10 inch (USA) to .12 inch on the different sides of the pics to get a print that is not cropped nor has borders. I do not know what settings I have done wrong. If I export the same pic to an external program I can print without losing .1 to .12 off every side of each one. It is most noticeable when putting titles or watermarks or logos near any edge. Is there a tutorial or forum, etc. to show me how to fix my error? Maybe even a real book?
Thanks in advance to all for reading or answering my rambling post!

This is a bug in LR.  I have reported it, and it is confirmed by Adobe since LR 3.4. This bug irritates me a lot!

  • Printing Solution

    Hi
Im looking for a printing solution that will have a few printers on various floors. Preferably a single make. Then I would like to deploy one printer(driver) to all workstations or user.
For a user to retrieve their printers they will need to authenticate to a printer(it can be any printer) either with their AD credentials, via a passcode, biometrics or even a QR code that they can scan with their phones.
So that a user can retrieve their prints from any printer but only print to one printer.
Do you have any ideas or solutions on how I can implement this? Even some products I can trial or investigate etc.
    Thank You.

    Hi,
the vendor you choose will have to be someone that can live up to your requirements. So get the requirements stated in a document and ask your local supplier for assistance. Or contact a vendor you like and ask them for a discussion of your requirements
and a quote if they can fulfill them.
When it comes to secure printing it sounds to me that you most likely will be able to go with whatever solution the vendor has. Most vendors have a solution that only works on their equipment and a solution that works on multi-vendor fleets. Wether you choose
single- or multi-vendor support is up to you: if you do not plan to change vendor ever go with the chep single-vendor.
For a comparison of solutions see here:
    http://www.quocirca.com/reports/624/closing-the-print-security-gap
Older report but still fairly up to date. Minor changes in the market (like SafeCom sell-out) and Lexmark/NSi/others provided new solutions - but most seems unrelevant in your case.
    Hope this is usefull.

  • SOLUTION_MANAGER - printing solution documents

    Hello,
how to print solution documents into one file in transaction SOLUTION_MANAGER.
Like the blueprint and configuration documents could be printed in transactions SOLAR01 and SOLAR02 as Generate Blueprint Document and Generate Configuration Guide.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
There is no way to simply generate a compilation of the solution documents, you may perhaps create a project just for this and assign the desired solution to the project and then generate a blueprint.

  • Building a custom web-to-print solution. Where to begin?

I am a web developer in an organization that deals with creating books. They don't actually print and distribute the books, but they create the book designs in InDesign where they then send them to the printers to be printed and distributed.
The organization is now interested in having users customize portions of books online (logo, certain text, particular images, etc), to be automatically sent to a printer and then distributed. The organization realizes that there are a number of web-to-print solutions that exist, but they are very much interested in creating an in-house, fully customized solution (for a number of reasons, they didn't find the other solutions satisfactory).
Essentially, the desired online experience for the user would be to go through a series of steps, filling in text inputs and uploading images to replace the templated portions of the InDesign file. Further, the user would see a preview of the inputted changes on the screen.
A lot of the burden would be on me developing the software necessary to make this work. I have a lot of experience in a number of programming languages, but have very little experience in the web-to-print industry (as well as little experience in InDesign).
If we were to create a fully customized web-to-print solution in house, where would I begin in finding out how best to implement a solution like this? If one with experience could provide a list of high-level steps needed for implementation or even a bullet list of items to research, I would be extremely appreciative.
Note that we are not interested in actually printing the books, but sending the fully created print-ready design files to the printers for print and distribution.

  • OES Linux, Print Solutions

    Hello all,
I am currently using Netware 6.5 SP5(OES Netware SP2), and wandering what
print solutions are available for the OES Linux platform. Specifically, is
NPDS available on OES Linux? If so is it the primary solution or is there
    a different solution?
A direction to documentation would be more helpful. Any assistance is
    appreciated.
    Regards,

    Matt,
NDPS isn't really state of the art on NW6.5.
iPrint is, as well on Netware as on OES Linux. Check the manuals.

  • Ipad Print servers?  Print solutions Any ideas?

Is there a simple print solution for printing from ipad?  Print servers?  I don't want to buy a new printer and WePrint app is too cumbersome.  Any ideas?

Then you will not be able to print directly to it from the iPad. The iPad's only way of connecting to a network is via a wireless signal. There are apps in the apps store that facilitate connecting to a printer by way of a computer. You might explore that.

  • Mobile printing solutions for iPad

Hello I would like to see if anyone can help with this...We are trying to equip our service employees with printing capabilities while they are out in the field.  I know that it seems that the best way to go is with utilizing the air print feature of the iPad, however looking at the supported printers (found on the apple website) i dont see any that seem all that "portable" in regards to size and weight.  How are others handling their printing needs on the go?
    Thank you very much!!

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread/
HP offers something called mobile printing solutions.
apparently at Kinkos and other selected locations, a person can send thier docs to be printed rom thie i pad.
i downloaded the HP mobile printing app, but the local Kinkos is some distance away, so i have not yet tried it.
Bersides, there would be a cost per page.  for printing.
sending e mail attachments to companies with printing capabilities i have tried.
Staples offers this serivce, but I sent some docs and they had to be adjusted and modified by the Staples printing department to enable correct printing on a page, so that particular abenue may be out.
( i made the document using Noteworthy app and sent it to Dropbox and sent the resulting PDF from dropbox to Staples, who printed the test, but told me it requireed page modification..
I have no idea why as the page i had worked up into a PDF had a standard word processing format.

  • HP Photosmart Premium all-in-one C310a printer, Solution Center will not stay installed.

It seems lately, past month or so, that the HP Solution Center keeps failing and needs to be reinstalled.  I get a message which says:" HP Solution Center cannot run because your device installation is not complete." followed by a list of steps to take to remedy the situation, which do not work.  I have to uninstall and reinstall the printer and then it will work, but after I shut the computer down for the day or run a virus scan (PC Matic) the problem returns.  Can anybody help me?

  • Printing solution for Color LaserJet 3600 & 2600 on new Apple hardware

This is a followup to my original thread that was archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2364735&tstart=0
I finally found a solution. HP owes me $20,000 in consulting fees.
To print to a LaserJet 3600 or 2600 from a newer Mac using 10.6, you must do the following:
Step 1: Install Foomatic HPIJS drivers
Step 2: Get an AirPort Express or equivalent print server (AirPort Extreme works as well, UFO or thin.)
Step 3: Connect the printer via USB to the print server, and connect it to your network
Step 4: Go to Print & Fax, then click the + button to add a printer
Step 5: Select HP Jetdirect - Socket for the protocol
Step 6: Enter the IP address of the printer server, followed by a colon and the port number (9100 or 9101)*, i.e. 1.2.3.4:9100
Step 7: Name the printer, then click on the Print using: drop down menu
Step 8: Select the Select Other Printer..., and choose the appropriate HPIJS driver.
    * To determine the correct port, open Network Utility in the Utilities folder. Click on Port Scan. Type the IP address of your print server, then check the Only test ports between... and enter 9100 and 9101. It will report back the open TCP port.

Unfortunately 10.6.3 did not fix the problem.
I've also, unfortunately, found out that the HPIJS will also eventually fail to print.
This is beyond frustrating since we invested several thousands of dollars in these printers and we can't use them.

  • Wireless Network Printing Solution

Yesterday I discoverd a solution that allows you to set up a HP Photosmart C7200 Series (Model Number: SDGOB-0713) on a wireless network... This is related to an issue we had printing from an iMac, MacBook Pro and a Mac mini to two different identical HP C7200 printers.
We found that if you plugged both the printer and the Mac's directly into the network (no wireless involved) you can successfully auto detect the printer with a Bonjour option and an HP IP option, Note: prevously we couldn't detect it at all. Then we installed both print queue options and found that the Bonjour option stop's working once you switch back to wireless but the HP IP Queue contenues to work great wired or wireless.
Wireless Access Points used (Buffalo WZR-AG300NH)

Sorry This Printer does not have e-print and  wireless capability .To send print job through your ipad requires e-print capability and not necessarily wireless enabled printer  .

  • Best way to implement a print solution for a CF online store (at the store)

    Hey everyone,
I have developed a CF web store for a client in which people order food items and then pay for it with integration with Authrorize.NET.  The customer and the store gets an email of the order.  We want to get away so that the email that gets to the sore owner is either automatically printed or that they get some notification that there is a new order there.  I have tried some software such as Namtuk Autoprint but doesn't seem to work all the time for the store owner in that it prints sometimes.  I am looking for other solutions people may have done or think can be done.  I was looking into internet printers but i know nothing about how it works or to set one up.
    thanks

So, I take it the ColdFusion server is not located at the store owner's place, because that would solve it easily.
Outlook, for one, can print emails as they arrive.
Thunderbird seems to lack such feature, and no luck with the plugins I guess.
Then there are several other client-side solutions as well, in addition to the one you mentioned.
Can't help you with any particular software I've tested, though.

  • Printing solution for KDE?

I just wondered if anybody had a good work around for the print dialog problems in KDE (and presumably QT apps generally). I guess some distros patch the sources but this seems to require recompiling QT which I'm not keen to do and the patches are for an older version anyway.
There are many references to the issue in both KDE and QT bug trackers e.g. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180051.
Basically, the issue is that the print dialog seems to have two parts. One part reflects the CUPS configuration for the printer. As far as I can tell the purpose of this part of the dialog is to sow confusion among users but perhaps that is not actually intentional. It seems, in any case, to have no effect whatsoever.
The second part is some sort of QT print setup dialog. There are multiple issues with this. First, it is insensitive to the capabilities of the printer advertised by the PPD file via CUPS. So it doesn't matter whether the printer has fine-grained quality control in CUPS, it won't here. Likewise, it doesn't matter whether the printer can print colour or not, it will offer this option.
So the first issue is that some settings just cannot be set through the dialog.
The next issue is that this dialog uses defaults which do not depend on the defaults configured via CUPS. For example, no physical printer I use has letter paper; all of these are configured in CUPS to default to A4. But the print dialog defaults to letter paper. Similarly, CUPS is set to default to duplex and greyscale but the dialog defaults to single-sided in colour. Most of the printers I use do not even offer colour. Some of them need quality settings adjusted to get good output and this can't even be done via the dialog.
This means that if I just print without reconfiguring via the dialog, I get "color, letter, single-sided" rather than "greyscale, A4, duplex, additional options".
Finally, the configuration isn't saved. It must be done not only for each session or each application but for every single job sent from a KDE application and any other application which hooks into the KDE print framework. Every single job. KDE offers a GUI alternative to the CUPS web interface but I'm not sure why since it has zero affect.
The result is obviously very irritating, time-consuming and wasteful of toner and trees.
I'm therefore wondering how other people manage this issue or whether any workarounds are available which do not involve patching and compiling QT source. Apart from the issue of having to do that and having to do it on every update, the available patch even if it worked for QT 4.8.0 doesn't actually fix most of the above problems. It would not, for example, pick up the A4 default or enable me to set different quality settings.
I'm wondering about trying to write some command line scripts but I'm not sure if this is the best solution so I'd like to know if better ones might be possible first. I'm not sure what the current best command line print command is although I figure that shouldn't be too hard to establish. But this would be very inconvenient for many applications. The only reason I'm considering it is because it wouldn't be too bad from Kile since the Konsole is right there anyway; and acroread doesn't rely on KDE for printing. Most of my printing is either kile -> okular -> print or acroread -> print. I'd still have issues with libreoffice, web browsers etc. so I'd rather find a more general solution if possible. (I know I can print to PDF and then print that but I might as well just go through the config unless I need quality settings in that case.)
Or should I just buy a pencil?!

SteveK wrote:I just have the one printer, although I have set it up in 2 or 3 different KDE distros and I'm just using normal Arch packages here.
The reason I asked is because there are at least two patches available to fix the bug but they require compiling the whole of QT from source. Most distros, however, include these patches. So the fact that it works for you in another distro means nothing but the fact that it works for you in Arch is very, very interesting.
The KDE developers don't seem to expect it to work. Discussion at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180051 reveals that they think that Arch are "douchebags" for not patching QT. (Please note that I am *not* endorsing this view as the bug thread on KDE should make clear.)
Unless, of course, they *are* patching it and something is weird about my config. How would I find that out?
Oh and just to clarify, today I re-checked changing paper type between A4/Letter and colours to greyscale/colour as default settings, rebooted and the print dialogue reflected those changes, along with the printed output.  I have no idea why it works for some people and not others.
My print dialog doesn't even reflect it 30 seconds later, let alone after a reboot! (And I reboot quite often so it isn't the lack of rebooting, either.)
What about running from a terminal? Any related errors show up?
Sorry for being dumb. How would I run it from the terminal? Or what would I run? Do you just mean start e.g. okular from terminal? I don't get anything interesting:
    okular <random-file>.pdf
    okular(24864)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
    okular(24864)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
    okular(24864)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
    okular(24864)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
    okular(24864)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(24864)/kdeui (kdelibs) KXMLGUIClient::~KXMLGUIClient: 0x8b9230 deleted without having been removed from the factory first. This will leak standalone popupmenus and could lead to crashes.
I didn't actually print as I'm not connected to a printer right now, but I opened the print dialog, selected a printer and examined both "properties" and "options". The "advanced" properties always shows the CUPS defaults but they have no effect on anything. The "options", as usual, defaulted to letter/singe-sided/color etc.
But perhaps that's not what you meant by "run from a terminal"?

  • HP 7310xi officejet all-in-one-printer Solution Center Windows7 64bit unable to install

Windows 7 64bit system doesn't have any downloaded HP in Programs Files folder but it has some folders downloaded on the 64bit Program Files (x86) folder, none of these folders have the HP Solution Center download, I’ve found the complete folder download but it doesn’t download what I’m looking for.
HP 7310xi officejet all in one printer, eventhough is as your technical support considers it as an old printer, my printer is not abused and has worked fine throughout the whole time, the HP Solution Center was installed before and since I lost the software disk and your website is totally incomplete by not providing this useful resourceful printer window. It really sucks what you've done by not allowing a customer to find what's needed in your website to have your product completely work. You should place a life term limit to your manufactured products if your website does not support them, then as a customer I'd look for another printer brand.
I've followed: Provost as per windows xp explanation and HP installer is not installing the HP software in Windows Program Files neither in Windows Programs files (x86), yes there's an HP folder without the main software, I've tried also removing %temp% and also deleted files from: C:Users\(your name here)\AppData\Local\HP\Digital Imaging, I've also tryied installing the full EU and was unable due to software issue.

Hi Bob_Headrick, there isn't a CD software for sale, HP is not selling it, I've also followed every posted solution to get the HP Solution Center important software icon and have installed:
