Mixdown the audio.
Check that View >Video>Firewire is active. You may
have to open FCE after your camera is powered on in
VCR mode.
Go to File >Print to Video.
Put a check mark in any of the Leader boxes
required.
Select any Media and Tralier options required.
Hit OK.

  • Problem Burning Final Cut Movie Using Autoplay Feature

I exported a Quicktime movie I made from Final Cut Pro. I wanted to burn my DVD without having the menu at the beginning, so I dragged my movie (from the "Media" link) into the autoplay box in the map view. It seems to work well-the preview shows the movie has been imported. However, after burning the DVD I get no response from my DVD player, or two other players I've used. I get error messages and the DVD does not play automatically.
When I go back and import the Final Cut movie into a DVD theme, not using the autoplay box, and burn the DVD everything turns out fine! I cannot figure out why it doesn't work when I drag the movie into the autoplay box, but works great if I import the movie from File>Import>Video.
Not sure if this matters, but when I exported my Quicktime movie from Final Cut I did not make the movie "self-contained." Any help on this would be great!

    Hello Wade,
you should always create a disk image from your iDVD project. That way you can test it with DVD Player before actually burning to disc and rule out burn errors by burning at slow speed with DU.
Not sure if this matters, but when I exported my Quicktime movie from Final Cut I did not make the movie "self-contained."
That may well be one of the problems. If you do a search on the FCP board, you'll find that most experienced users recommend exporting as self-contained.
I'd suggest exporting a self contained QT movie from your timeline, then creating a disk image.
    hope this helps

  • Final cut movie file dependency?

I'm hoping someone can explain to me how exactly "final cut express movie files" work. I've read that they're just .mov files, and I know that if I change what program they're set to open with they show up as "quicktime movie files" instead; what's confusing me though is that I thought they were independent of the project file, render files, etc but when I transferred several to another computer (having created them by exporting to quicktime in FCE), now only one of them will play (in quicktime - this computer doesnt have FCE). On one computer I've tried, quicktime just hangs, and on another, the file opens but it's only audio. Now one of them won't even play on the computer it was created on. I also have an iDVD project that references one of these movies, and opening that project file I get an error that it's searching for a referenced file - NOT the final cut movie file itselef, but apperenetly something that file is referencing (I'm not on that computer now so can't give the exact message but it's something with "Seq-1" in it as I recall). I may have also gotten that error opening one of the movies in quicktime, I can't remember anymore...
But it really seems these final cut movie files are referencing something - is that how it's supposed to be?? I have some I've made from previous projects that work just fine totally independently (I've deleted everything else from those projects). Any idea what's going on this time?
I'm using both FCE HD and FCE version 1 - the only movie that seems to be working independently was exported from version 1, but the others were from HD. Sorry I don't have more details about the errors, I'll try to post more later when I'm at home.
    Thanks in advance!

Claire W wrote: - so is this file not a regular .mov file then? Or are you saying that's the case with all .mov files?
It is a regular .mov file. It's just that it is dependent on its Project and its Render files
and also, just purely out of curiosity, what would have happened to that render file that's missing on the computer the movie was edited on? I haven't deleted any render files, did it somehow just disappear?? Thanks!
I have found that Render Files seem to get lost. Whether they are deleted in some way or it's just that FCE can't find them, I don't know.
As far as opening the FCE Project is concerned, you can easily re-render to replace any missing Render Files, but I don't like Reference QT Movies (the Dependent ones) - see my recent post at:

  • Exporting Final Cut Movie Frame as High Resolution Photo

    Hello everyone,
Is there a way to take a frame in a final cut movie and export it as a high resolution photo? My supervisor has taken some great video footage and would like to use parts of it to make a calendar. I've tried exporting in quicktime, but the highest resolution I get is 72 dpi.
Even if there's a 3rd party program that will do this if Final Cut won't, please let me know. Thank you!

There are any number of up-rez tools for Photoshop that do a pretty good job of creating pixels where none exist. Simply resampling at a larger size/pixel count often creates acceptable results. But, as stated, there are only a limited number of pixels available: whatever you shot with. If you shot with a fabulous high def (not HDV) camera, you might have as many as 1080x760 some odd pixels.

  • What is Final Cut Movie anyways?

    Hello guys,
lately, I am having problems with my videos exported as Final Cut Movie.
They work fine on my own machine, but they don't play on my friend's computers, even on brand new iMac with QuickTime 7 installed.
QT refuses to open the file. File's icon on their desktop does not show QT logo, but when I right click for file info, it says: File type - Quick Time Movie
So I am wondering, what is Final Cut Movie anyways? Is it true QT file, compatible with QT players worldwide? Or is it just kind of intermediate format, only meant to be converted into some more compatible format?
    Thank you so much.

I have created this file by exporting it from Final Cut timeline using: Export as Quick Time Movie. So the file was created by Final Cut.
Yes, it was created by FCP so it will have an FCP icon. But you can change the default opening application to QuickTime Player in the Finder's 'Get Info' window.
But even then, as David S. has stated, that says nothing about the codec used to make the file.
If, when you exported from FCP you made a self-contained movie and did NOT "Recompress All Frames" then the codec used will be the same codec as used in your FCP Sequence. So if you were working in a DV Sequence, the codec used to create the movie will also be QuickTime DV (aka QuickTime DV/DVCPro).
If you made a reference movie by the same method, it will also be the same codec, but won't play on any other system without the original media and render files.
In any event, exporting a QuickTime Movie by the above method will create an identical copy of what you have in the Sequence. But it won't play on any other system without the proper codec installed on that system.
Is it true QT file, compatible with QT players worldwide?
This is a misunderstanding of what a QuickTime file actually is. The ubiquitous QuickTime Movie (.mov) is merely a container and the audio and video streams contained within could have been made from any number of codecs. The same is true on the Windows side of things with the .AVI file type. Unless the codec used to create the file is installed on the viewing system, the file will not play.

  • Final Cut Movie to QT ?

I am having problems with my iDVD and final cut movies. I want to use QT movies instead. What is the best setting to export to QT movie with the least amount of compression. FCE to QT ?

If the files were made by FCP it's possible that the codecs used would also only be supported by machine that have FCP installed.
Ask the authors to send you a file that uses H.264 video and AAC audio.

  • I have a project that crashed on me when I was about to finish it. When I try to reopen Final Cut Pro it wouldn't open until I took the project out of the Final Cut Project folder. Can somebody tell me if this is a problem that has a solution? I cannot

I have a project that crashed on me when I was about to finish it. When I try to reopen Final Cut Pro it wouldn't open until I took the project out of the Final Cut Project folder. Can somebody tell me if this is a problem that has a solution? I cannot go back to the project at all.

If you are using 10.0.3 or above Apple added a backups folder that for a little extra protection in cases like this. If you quite FCPX go to your Final Cut Pro Projects folder. Find the folder that has the project in question. If it has a backups folder there should be a file with a date stamp and .fcpproject extention, that is your back-up. Just move the back-up from that folder one folder up to the place where you deleted CurrentVersion.fcpproject from.  When I have had to do this I haven't renamed the backup but some people to recomend that you rename it to CurrentVersion.fcpproject and it seems to work both ways. Ofcourse it wont work if there is already a CurrenVersion file there you will need to delete that one first.
If you don't have the backups folder or there is nothing in it I am not sure if there is anything that can be done.

  • No audio for some files in the Final Cut Event/Original Media folder

Hi, recently, I noticed that some of the video files stored into the Final Cut Event/"Event"/Original Media folder had no audio. They do have audio when I read them into FCP X but not when I open them as ordinary files in the Finder. It worries me as it makes these files unusable in any other application, unless I "share" them from FCP X. It's no big deal but it's more work and on the principle, it's criminal: why FCP X would strip the audio off an original? Video and photo applications now work on the non-destructive principle!
I usually shoot videos with a DSLR (Canon 550D/T2i) and a GoPro 3. It seems that the files impacted are the ones shot with the Canon and optimized for FCP X. The GoPro files are fine, optimized or not.
Is there any solution to this problem or will I have to export the files from FCP X?

Thank you very much for the info.
I removed the Media Cache and Media Cache File folders.  Didn't seem to make any difference.  Also, there's no audio if I try to play it in Organizer.
I have a question regaring "import".  What exactly does that mean?
Since all my MTS files are on hard drive already, what I did was:
    1) Open a new project in PE9.
    2) In the "Organize" tab, click "Get Media"
    3) Choose "Get Videos/Photos/Audio from: Files and Folders".
    4) In the pop-up window, navigate to my folder and choose the existing MTS file.
    Was that called "import"?
    Thank you again!

  • Provide Feedback for the Final Cut Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for Final Cut Pro would like to know what you think about the Final Cut Pro 5 Help documentation (available in the Help menu):
    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like about it most?
    • What is missing?
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
    • By what method do you usually learn a new application? For example: provided tutorials and manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training classes?
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do you feel the book provided a good introduction to the application?
    • What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch, 17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under
what circumstances do you use it most?
Often, I much prefer that to the Manual, though the Search function is very clunky. Search for Nest for example and you'll get about 50 listings for the table of contents and indexes alone, when all I would really want is the explanation of how to actually create a Nest.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final
Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index,
    skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    Search.
    • What do you like about it most?
Ease of use to get through the manual instead of going through the books themselves.
    • What is missing?
Better organization of the search results. Again, if I search Nests, make the first set of results the answers that actually show me how to use the tool, not the 50 times it appears in the table of contents and indexes.
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or
documentation that you consider to be good models for
the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
Honestly, Apple's is the best I've seen for the moment.
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Just crack the app open and start. Use websites like the Creative Cow for more input and ideas.
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book
to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do
you feel the book provided a good introduction to the
    application?
I thought the Tutorial that came with my first copy of FCP (Version 2.0) was outstanding at introducing me to the interface and how FCP operated. I came from Media 100 and in particular, the Log and Capture operation was completely different than what I was used to.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
Media Manager. Not sure why it has to be so convoluted. Media 100 was too easy with this one. Select the Sequence to be up-rez'd, set your new format and capture.
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
Search results using the Help menu.
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
Actually both. If the electronic search gets too frustrating, I'll pull the print manual out to find what I really need.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
Not really. Internet based help is always nice, but I don't keep my FCP workstations connected to the web so that would actually create a bigger hassle for us.
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
    17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    17" Powerbook display, 17" 20" and 23" Apple Displays and a 17" Sony Display.
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    Highest resolution for that monitor.
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    Yes. 23 & 17" on one G5. 20 & 17" on the 2nd G5. 17" Powerbook
Powerbook G4 17, G5 Dual 2.0, G5 Dual 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) AJA Kona 2 on both G5's, Fibre Channel and SATA arrays in use.

  • Using the final cut pro trial, i can't export?

i downloaded the final cut pro trial a while ago, not activating until recently. i guess before i activated it, after downloading, i had to get switch my glitchy macbook for a new identical one. i don't know if this is the problem, but it could be. i am making a movie in the trial version, and under commands, export is not clickable. so, i used the share option, and tried to share it as a master file... then to an apple product... then tried to share to youtube. all result with the same thing. it'll act as if it's working, but after maybe 30 seconds a little message saying "Share Failed." when i click on details, all it says is "The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 1543 (error -1)." I don't know what that means. Does it mean one of my clips is the glitch? I have no idea what the problem is here. Are you even allowed to export using the trial version anyway? I haven't been able to get a straight answer there either. Thanks!

As Bobbyyco said, you should definitely be able to share from the trial version.
In Preferences>General>Time Display, you can change the to Frames, which makes it easier to locte the slip that includes the frame in the error message.
You could then use a replace edit to substitute something ales in its place. Then use the range tool to select a short section that includes the replaced clip and export as a master file.
If it works, your project should export. (Transcode a new version of the clip by right clicking and use that as the permanent substitute clip.
If it doesn't work, turn off background rendering in Preferences. Select your project and from the File menu, choose Delete Project Render FIles. When prompted choose All Files. Do another test export as a master file without rendering.

  • Final Cut Pro, Flash Video Encoder & Flash Player

Well, let's get started.... I'm getting real frustrated with
Adobe. I emailed them about this problem two months ago and NEVER
got a response. This is extremely unacceptable product support. We
just purchased the Creative Suite Premium two months ago and have
never gotten Flash Video Encoder to properly encode a Quicktime
video exported from Final Cut Pro.
I have heard from a few on the Final Cut Pro forum on
Creative COW that there is a bug with this issue between Flash and
Final Cut Pro. Adobe doesn't seem to care if I report it, so that's
    why I am here.
I create my program as usual, export a Quicktime file (not
reference video, but a full self-contained Quicktime). BTW, I have
Quicktime 7.2 on my Mac Pro Quad 3.0 with 8 gig of RAM. I open
Flash Video Encoder to make my flash files. Import the Quicktime
and select my settings which are custom. I set it to encode and
wait for the encoding to be done. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to
encode a 23 minute program. After the encode is finished, I check
the Flash file by opening it up. BTW, I also have installed a copy
of On2 Flix Exporter, which encodes Flash files, too. The On2 Flash
player is the only player that works. Adobe's Flash player opens
but it won't open ANY Flash files.
    Has anyone seen this?

When I try to import it on FCPX it says "None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again." and even on Compressor it either doesn't play and fails to convert, or else it plays only a the audio but once I've completed the process the outputted file doesn't play anything.
Here's a screenshot at my different attempts to convert it. I managed to get the record the video on VLC, but I can't record the audio so I tried getting only the audio form Compressor as well, but like I said the outputted file doesn't play any audio even though it's as long as the video (36 mins approx.).

  • Importing a Final Cut Movie to iMovie

Hello to all of you, lately I've been having problems importing a movie made in Final Cut (.mov) to iMovie. The iMovie just freezes in the last part. I do this because I wanted to import it later to iDVD so I could have chapters, created so I could separate the scenes where I wanted not where the machine told me.
This movie was two hours long (24 GB aprox.)
Does anyone how to help me with this?

You should be able to send your Final Cut movie to iDVD without having to use iMovie. You can make your own chapter markers in Final Cut.
If you are not planning to burn to a dual layer DVD, you will have to shorten your movie by a few minutes. Two hours is the maximum total content that you can put onto a single layer DVD, and that includes the iDVD menus. Even if your menus are simple, you will not be able to burn a movie over about 1 hour 57 minutes. Dual layer DVDs can hold twice as much as single, so you should be ok if your drive can burn dual layers.
But now, since you already have the movie into iMovie, to get it to work, try exporting it as QuickTime Full Quality. You will need enough hard drive space to do this, since you will be creating a duplicate of your movie. If you have an external drive, have it saved to that drive.
Then, open a new iMovie project, drag the new quicktime movie into it, shorten it by a couple of minutes if you need to, and create your chapter markers. Close iMovie. Open a new iDVD project, drag in the iMovie made with the qt movie.
    Should burn fine.

  • Using Final Cut Express for video editing without attaching external device

    Hello,
I am a newbie to Final Cut Express as well as Mac's in general. I am wanting to use Final Cut Express for video editing of files, but without an attached camera. Is there any way to have Final Cut Express startup without having it prompt for an external A/V device? I just want to do some basic editing and use the chroma key feature. Can anyone help?
    Greatly Appreciated,

    iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Zak,
Unfortunately, I've tried that and I get into an issue that was addressed in this posting: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=836595&tstart=120 where FCE will show the splash screen and then the program doesn't start. I then have to delete FCE preferences and then I will get the Easy Setup dialog box prompt me again for choosing the external device.
I am looking for a way to use FCE for video editing of files that I already have on my computer that I created using iClone software and is in .avi, or .mp4 format. I get FCE to work one time without the external device actually being attached, but then when restarting the program I get the dialog box asking for the external device and if it's not there, the program just closes, and to get it to work again, I have to delete the preference files and go through the process all over again which is time consuming especially when this is at work. If FCE is not the right program, can anyone suggest a good video editing program that doesn't require an external device and is as good or better than FCE?
Thanks again for your help and support,
