Printing through Windows?

I have my printer hooked up to Time Capsule and can print from my Macbook to it no problem. I would like to print from Windows (on my Macbook through Fusion) to the same printer. How do I install that printer in Windows? Do I need to use Bonjour since the printer is already on my network? The printer does not show up in Windows at all right now.
Thanks much

I installed bonjour on Windows, and the bonjour printer wizard did the job.

I managed to work through this problem in 2 different installations.
In one case Bonjour did find the printer in the Bonjour Add Printer Wizard(an Epson CX-5000)
In the second case - a Brother MFC-6800 - the printer did not show up as a choice in the Bonjour Add Printer Wizard.
You might check that the drivers for the printer that is attached to the TC are installed on the Windows system.
In this case I know the Brother drivers were installed but they don't seem to support a remote print server set up. However, the Bonjour Add Printer Wizard offered 2 choices - a generic PCL and a generic PS printer. I chose the generic PS printer and that worked....
Printing with a print server - which is what we're talking about here - is something that some printers do better than others. In my experience some printers, particularly their Windows drivers, sort of do their own thing which isn't conducive to playing by the rules which is important with print servers.

  • Printing through Windows 2003 server

I'm the only Mac in the house and have been printing through our Windows 2003 server just fine until this week after my last Apple Update. When printing to any printer on our system, (I have reset printers with no change to results), I get a heading with my name, plus (RE: my job), and a bold underscore with the following message below the line:
    %%[Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: languagelevel]%%
%%[Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ingnored]%%
This has only become a problem in the last week. I first noticed the problem on my G5, but I just plugged my Powerbook G4 into our Ethernet system with the same results.
    Power Mac7,3 (G5) Mac OS X (10.4.7) Windows Server 2003

I am not aware of what drivers were used before or if there has been a change. I used the standard print utility and it identified all printers on the system and I just added them. Printing was no problem until this last week.

  • Get a mac to print through windows 7

Hi i have a cannon ip4200 connected to a windows 7 pro machine i also own a 15 inch macbook pro with snow Leopard.I am trying to get the mac to print through the win 7 comp but it just keeps coming up with printer paused or failed.
I have shared the printer on the windows side and installed LPD Print Service.
I then installed the printer on the mac side with the share name and the path
Protocol Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    Address 192.168.10.100
    Queue Default
    Name Mick
    lpd://192.168.10.100/Micks
    Print using Default
I use the default driver as it will not let me continue if i do not.I then change the driver to the correct one Cannon iP4200 but it will just start and then stay on pause i am at a loss please help.
I hope this is enough information if you want more i will be monitoring this site alllllll night thank you.
I also tried to use the Cannon Gutenprint driver 4000 and all i got was the error /usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed

    Mick,
I'm not "trying" to be difficult here... If you had read those other posts, you would be trying Samba (abbreviated smb, called Windows sharing in systems prefs) to print to a Windows shared printer (no lpd backend errors from that).
And, you would know that having the exact correct queue name on the server, to enter in Print & Fax LPD setup, is the most common LPD cause of errors. It does appear that your OS X install has a problem with the LPD backend.
And, you would know that the driver for your model from Canon is a USB-only driver, and you'll have to use Gutenprint (Gutenprint drivers are included in OS X, and newer version updates are available here):
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
After you've read all the old posts, be patient and the most knowledgeable helper here, PAHU, a fellow Aussie, will probably get to you.
About print servers: The Mac uses industry standard print protocols just as Windows does. If the print server uses TCP/IP, then it will work. There are a handful of print servers that use proprietary protocols, so they usually don't work with Macs. In the case of a print server, remember that you'll again be forced to use a Gutenprint driver, not the Canon one. --this is not a plug from Apple -- The Airport Express has the advantage of using Apple proprietary built-in software to allow you to use your USB-only Canon driver.

  • Won't print through Window XP on iMac with Bootcamp

Installed Bootcamp and Windows. I can access Internet ok, but it won't print via wireless Airport. Try to print but nothing happens. Help!

I just purchased a new G5 iMac (PowerPC) with OS 10.4.4 installed. My problem seems to mirror yours, i.e. totally erratic printing of Web pages from Safari. Printing in other apps. seems fine (AppleWorks, etc.). My HP 6100 series printer doesn't have this problem when connected to an iBook OS 10.2.8. I downloaded the most recent software version on the HP website (7.7.2) assuming that there would be a properly functioning driver in this. No dice - still unable to print from Safari. HP online support site was dismissive; worse, I paid HP for tech help which vowed the download would work. The whole experience has been disheartening. Have you been able to get anywhere? Thanks.

  • Officejet pro 8000 wireless will not print from windows photo viewer. all other diagnostics ok.

OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x 64. All functions and printing are ok with this unit, excepting for printing through Windows Photo Viewer. Have latest software, drivers, etc., and all HP software and hardware diagnostic tools check out ok.
Checked Windows event log, and get Event 350, PrintService - Document  failed to print and was deleted because of corruption in the spooled file. The associated driver is: . Try printing the document again.
There is no additional info on this event listed in the Microsoft TechNet Events and Errors Message Reporting Center
When this happens, all of the lights on the printer flash very rapidly.
To correct, I clear the queue through Explorer, Troubleshoot, and unplug printer to reset.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks

FYI, I got this to work by treating my printer as a wired printer, even though it allegedly has wireless functionality. Luckily, my ohter devices can print to it wirelessly. At least I don't need to replace my printer just yet...

  • Printing through a Windows computer.

I'm working on a 1GHz Power Mac G4 desktop that is connected with Ethernet to a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router. The printer is connected to a Dell Dimension 4300 by USB. The question for me is, even though I can get the printer to show up in my printer search list, I can't get anything to print off of it. Does anyone know a possible solution? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about details or anything, just leave me a message. Thanks for your help!

I have a Mac Mini running Leopard and I print through a Windows XP computer with printer sharing turned on. My printer is a Samsung ML-1710.
The printer shows up in the network as expected, but initially I had a problem in which the job was sent, the printer spun up then stopped dead.
I tracked the problem to the driver setting on the Mac, which had defaulted to Generic Postscript Printer. Since Leopard had no driver for the ML-1710, I got it from the Samsung website, installed it, and changed the print driver to the proper one. Then it worked fine.
I guess the important thing is that you are running the correct driver for the printer, as unlike WinXP, it doesn't install a network printer driver for you.

  • Can't print through Time Capsule using Windows-operating computers

I've just bought a time capsule 500GB and it's working fine. It backups my macbook every hour and I can easily print whatever file I want through my Canon iP1800 series, which is connect to WAN port of my time capsule.
However, I have others 2 notebooks running windows, and I can't print from them wirelessly. I've installed the airport utility and Bonjour in both computers using the CD that came with my time capsule and I followed these instructions of an old topic here (_but it didn't work out_):
“1. Make sure the printer is recognized by the base station.
    2. Select 'Add a new printer' in Windows
    3. Select 'Local Printer' in the dialog box (auto detect and install
    should be off), click next.
    4. Choose 'Create a new port' and "Standard TCP/IP Port'. Click next.
    5. For the printer IP address, enter the address of the base station 10.0.1.1. The port name will be filled automatically. Click next.
    6. For the device type, choose 'Hewlet Packard Jet Direct', then click Finish.
Choose your printer from the list and follow the rest of the prompts to install and configure the driver.”
Do someone have any idea to tell me what's happening? How can I fix this problem and have Mac and Windows laptops printing through my time capsule?
    Thanks

When you installed bonjour did the Bonjour Print Wizard appear on your desktop? Or in the program menu?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3052?viewlocale=en_US
In my personal experience Bonjour sometimes doesn't install properly and doesn't appear on either the desktop or program menu, particularly if it is installed at the same time as another piece of apple software. Each of the times this happened I removed bonjour, using Windows Setup:Add/Remove programs, and then downloaded it again individually.
If you have the same experience as me you'll then be asked if you want to install a shortcut to the printer wizard. The wizard has done the trick for me. I've not yet had to resort to the rather more complicated "add new printer" route.

  • Printing from a Mac to a Windows XP printer through a wireless router

I have searched through many posts and still cannont come up with an answer.
I have a Lexmark X5100 printer connected to an XP PC in my home. My iMac is recieving internet wirelessly from a router connected to the PC. I am trying to figure out how to print from my iMac to the printer connected to the PC. I have turned on printer sharing on the PC and the Mac, and when I go to the Printer Setup Utility>Add Printer>More Printers>Windows Printing>mshome, it gives me a list of printers, but none of these printers is the one that I want to print to.
I have also tried windows printing via SAMBA, but the printer driver is not listed in the menu, even though I installed it from the internet.
Am I able to print to this printer wirelessly, or is this just an impossible task?
iMac 2 GHz 20' Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GB RAM

I just went thru this with an HP Wireless Printer 6980. I had to originaly set up the printer with Windows. Once I had the windows machine working wirelessly with the printer ; I installed the software that came with the printer to the iMac. After the software was successfully installed ; I went to Utilities , and Printer set-up Utility and the iMac found the wireless printer and all I had to do was add it to the list at that point. It can work .... but it did take some trial and error to get it working. Good Luck !!

  • FAX through HP laser jet 3050 which is connected on a Windows Network. I m also connected to this Network and i print through HP LJ 3050. How can i sent fax through HP LJ 3050?

HOW can i sent FAX through HP laser jet 3050 which is connected on a Windows Network.
I m also connected to this Network and i print through HP LJ 3050. How can i sent fax through HP LJ 3050?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Apparently there is no HP software support for the HP 3050 fax or scan functions with OS X 'Lion' 10.7:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02950970 #A1
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c0292511 4
    Alternatives?
    1) Run a Windows client on the Mac using Boot Camp or one of the available virtualization programs like Parallels, VMware Fusion, and others so you can run the latest Windows print/fax/scan driver.
    2) If your Mac hardware supports an older OS X version, downgrade to one (Snow Leopard?) that still had support for print, fax and scan.
    3) Buy a newer printer. A 2007 model is 5+ years old, and should now be fully depreciated in a business.

  • Laserjet m1217 will not print through easyprint on windows 2008 server 64Bit

We have a client that has the LaserJet M1217 that is connecting to our Window 2008 Server SP2 64Bit via Remote Desktop.  Easyprint recognizes the printer, but will not even print a test page.  We get a FAIL message.  We either need to know how to print through easyprint, or if there is a driver that can be installed remotely.
    This question was solved.

I would contact Microsoft about this. Since Easy Print is one of their features, they should know what is causing the error in the first place. Let me know what they say.

  • Printing from MacBook to a printer shared through Windows Vista

    Hi Everybody,
I'm unable to print anything from my Mac laptops to my HP printer which is shared via a Windows Vista PC.
I have a wireless home network with a PC, a latest model Powerbook G4 15"/1.67 and a MacBook Core2Duo. The PC is connected to an HP PSC 2355 All-In-One printer.
When I had Windows XP SP2 installed on my main PC, I was able to print from my Mac laptops through Samba (Advanced printer, smb://guest@myIPaddress/printersharename) without any problems.
I recently upgraded my PC to Vista Ultimate (RTM Technet full version). Now, I can no longer print via my Mac laptops, since supposedly, Vista's implementation of Samba has changed. I can, however, print from my MacBook when it's running Windows XP SP2 without any problems. This leads me to believe that the sharing-side on the Vista PC is set up correctly. The XP to Vista over wireless printing obviously doesn't use Samba. The Vista share does not have a password on it.
I've installed the Foomatic/HPIJS drivers on both my MacBook and the Powerbook. These are the errors:
Powerbook: "Unable to connect to SAMBA host"
MacBook: "The process "foomatic-rip" stopped unexpectedly with status 1"
I've tried all kinds of combinations for Samba, and also via the option "Windows Printing". My PC is in the same network Workgroup as the Macs, and they can see my Vista PC fine. I can also connect and share files with my Vista PC without any problems and connect through Samba using Finder (for file sharing). I cannot, however, see my shared printer through the Windows Printing dialog.
    Can anybody help me out?

  • My windows 7 pc recognizes my hp printer through airport but prints only various letters and symbols

my windows 7 pc recognizes my hp printer through airport but prints only various letters and symbols

    Located a solution:
Go to Control Panel - Printers ---  right click the printer and select Printer Properties.
Select the PORTS tab and disable Bi-Directional Printer Support.    Seems to work whether the printer is installed either via USB or Cat5 to the Airport Extreme network.
For HP printers, if that first fix doesn't work, download and install the HP Install Network Printer Wizard  - allow it to replace your 'newer' driver, but check hp.com for step by step instructions.
Third suggested fix is to download a PCL6 driver, or a different model-driver altogether that is more generic than model specific.

  • Print from windows laptop through mac

I would like to be able to print through a wireless network from my Dell laptop through the Mac desktop that is connected to a Mac-enabled printer. When I had a Windows desktop this was not a problem, but when I switched to the Mac desktop, can't print. Anyone have any suggestions short of buying a print server? Thanks
