Printing thru an XP shared printer???

Okay, here's the setup...
Airport extreme network.
Powerbook G4 connected via wireless.
Windows XP tower connected via ethernet cable.
HP Officejet All-in-one connected to the XP tower.
I want to be able to print from my wireless Powerbook, thru the XP tower, to the HP all-in-one printer. But when I installed Bonjour for Windows and connected the HP all in one to the USB port in my Airport Extreme, I lost the ability to Scan. Seems the HP all in one need to be hard wired to do that.
So I reconnected the Printer to the back of the XP Tower and turned on the XP printer sharing. Went to my Powerbook, chose the "Windows Printer" driver option and found the Windows network. Connected to it and did a test print (safari apple page).
It printed all right... printed about 10 pages of gobbledygook. Lines and lines of random letters and numbers.
Does anyone know how I can get the powerbook to print to this HP without unplugging the USB cable from the XP Tower?
Thanks in advance.

By God, it worked!
I went to the link...
http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
Downloaded and installed the file called "espgs..." first. Then downloaded and installed the "hpijs..." file. Made sure the XP printer was in Share mode, Rebooted my Mac, and went to "add" a new printer in the Print Setup Utility. Choose "Windows Printing" and selected the XP Network.
There was just one extra step that made all the difference...
In the Printer Browser, I double-clicked on the newly added driver (in this case it used the XP network name "HPOffice") and changed the Driver type from "Generic" to "HP" and found my printer model. Once that was done, it printed beautifully thru the Airport Extreme, thru the XP tower, to the USB HP all-in-one.
Thanks a million, Greg!

If it's sharing everything, it's because your account is set up on your wife's Mac.
On her MacBook, go to System Preferences and remove your account from it.

  • Sharing music purchsed on one iphone with others in a family group

Can music purchased on one iphone thru itunes be shared with other iphones in the family, that sync on the same laptop computer? we each have sep accts in itunes, under individul names in windows vista. Can music my son has purchased on itunes thru his iphone be shared?

you can have multiple devices setup to use the same iTunes account, which will give you access to all of the media on the computer (music, movies, photos, apps, etc).
you can have separate sync settings setup so music you want on your phone will not be the music your son wants on his phone, unless you listen to the same music.

    Hi
In shared service web interface, you will find in the top menu "synchronize external directory" or something like that.

I am a school network administrator and we have students doing inappropriate things with their iTunes music shares. I want to find out who is sharing their music.

Not sure about seeing who is doing what.
Post the question over here -> Forum: Getting Online & Networking

There are a few other things you could do.
    - Remove iTunes.
    - Disable sharing thru the iTunes prefs.
    - Disable iTunes sharing thru System prefs -> Sharing -> Firewall.
    - Block the iTunes sharing ports system wide (routers).

  • Webster's Revenge......

Here is a thought provoking dilemma. My mother still uses an old Mac Color Classis & has a MacPlus sitting right next to it. The MacPlus is strictly used to play Webster's Revenge. The floppies that I have it on (a few copies) won't last forever. I hooked up a 30 MB external scsi hard drive to the MacPlus & copied Webster's Revenge to it. The problem is that it won't run from the hard drive & it won't run when I hook it back up to the Color Classic (running OS 7.6). I know there has to be an EASY way to make this program work on a newer machine. Here is the game info: Webster's Revenge Rev. 3.00, 10-16-84, Written by Jeffrey D. Morris & David M. Jordan, Published & Distributed by Icon Concepts Corp, 113 East Tyler Street Athens, TX 75751. If anyone has any ideas on this I would greatly appreciate your help. I can't believe that these people just dropped off the face of the earth or that no one knows how to make this work. Thanks in advance for any & all help.

    Hi,
Your mom uses a Mac Color with a Mac plus right their? I use a Mac Performa 550 with the old 68K processor when I have a PowerPC Performa 6116 right out in the shed! The older the Mac the more intresting! Anyway I know what you mean about the program they probably wont last forever so make a backup copy on floppy disks that way if one breaks you will still have it on the other floppies. You want to run Websters Revenge on a Mac plus and it was on a Mac Color? Thats fine Im sure its not a big file so just copy it to a floppy and pop it into your Macplus. It shouldnt be a problem running a program from one Mac to another I do it all the time! If the program is to big then you can copy it thru either file sharing with a printer cable (if you have one) or file sharing thru an ethernet cable if your Macs have ethernet ports. If you dont have blank floppies then you can buy a box for like $3.00 at Walgreens but make sure their floppies not Zip disks or Minidisks! Its not nessisary to move all your hard drives for just copying a file! The easiest ways are file sharing or putting the files on floppies. If te floppies you have dont work on your Plus its possible it cant understand them. I dont really know why this happens but it has happened to me on my Macs.

  • Configure 6602 for gated pulse generation-gate configuration problem?

I want to generate a single triggered pulse on my 6602 board.
I can accomplish this easily if i use counters 0 or 1. But for counters 2-7 I have no luck...I can generate pulses, just not triggered pulses....probably because the board is not properly configured, namely the PFI lines that should serve as the gate.
Note that counters 0 and 1 are the dedicated counters, while 2 thru 7 are shared PFI lines.
I'm using LV 7.1 and the VI called "Generate Delayed Pulse.vi", and select a triggering option of "on rising edge."
I'm sure everything in my hardware is setup correctly since I can get triggered pulses for counters 0 and 1 and can get untriggered (software started) pulses on all other counters.
Any ideas on what I need to do to configure--seems like I just need to configure the PFIs to be the gates,ya?
Thanks in advance for your help.

slightly simplifying, my problem was that my VI repeatedly setup counters and DIO lines, one after the other in a loop.
something (i purposely left this vague, because i never found the exact cause), wasn't being configured properly, so it was causing the counter and/or DIO output to flake on me. i'm pretty sure the problem had to do with setting the PFI line for the gate on counter to to be an input. during DIO config, it would change to output (since i always write all my DIO lines). i could've fixed this (i think) with the set_attribute.vi, but found an easier way to fix my problem involving rewiring some hardware.
did you have a specific problem?

  • Printer Sharing thru Vista

We had setup Printer Sharing a few months ago when I had a sony vaio notebook after MUCH difficulty and stress. It turned out to be the Norton Internet Security was the issue. We changed the trust control level and that allowed the 2 computers to communicate with each other. NOW my mom has a dv5t and we also have a family computer (Pavilion a6460t). Both systems are running Windows Vista Home Premium w/SP1 32 Bit. Now we're using NIS 2009 on both of the computer and I'm trying to setup Printer Sharing for her so she can print from her laptop to the printer that's connected thru a USB cable to the desktop computer. However I'm experience difficulty yet again and don't have a clue as to what's going on. Right now both computers are set to "Private Network" on the Network & Sharing Center. Network Discovery is ON for both computers. Printer Sharing is turned ON on both computers. Password protected sharing is turned off for both computers. Both the laptop and desktop are connected to the SAME wireless router (Linksys WRT610N). Also to be clear the Workgroup for both systems is "WORKGROUP" The laptop's computer name is "JSimpson-PC" and the desktop's name is "SIMPSONFAMILY-PC". Yet when I go to the Network & Sharing Center and click on "View full map" the map on my the desktop ends up showing ONLY the desktop connected to the router connected to the internet globe. It's like it does not recognize the laptop that's connected to the SAME wireless router (Linksys WRT610N) I go to the dv5t and I go to Network & Sharing Center, click on "View full map" and the SAME thing happens. The map shows the laptop's PC Name connected to the router connected to the Internet globe. Again it's like the he laptop does not recognize the desktop. However the network map that appears when I click on "View ful map" for BOTH systems shows the XBox 360 which is connected to the router thru an ethernet cable.... As for NIS 2009 I tried changing the network trust level to FULL TRUST and that didn't change anything...so I don't know what else to do or what's going on. I tried contacting Linksys thinking it might have to do with the wireless router but they told me that it has nothing to do with them and that I should contact MS or HP. However I think it may have to do with the router and I was wondering if maybe someone on here who's expert may know something. I would appreciate any and all help.

I was having the same problem with not being able to share files/printers. At first I would blame Vista but ultimately it was the router. This took just a simple search
on google but this is what you can try...
Go to router web-based utility and then to "port range forwarding"
Enter a name for the first item like "Printer Sharing1"
Enter range of 137 to 139 and select "both" and then enter the ip
address of the computer(laptop) not connected to the printer
Add a checkmark and then "save settings"
Enter a second item ie "Printer Sharing2"
Enter range of 445 to 445 and select "tcp" or "both" and again
enter the ip of the non-sharing computer and save.
After doing this I have never had a problem sharing files or printers.
    Hope this helps...

  • Pages 2.0.2 won't print to shared printer

help! i'm at the end of my rope here.
pages used to print to my shared printer no problem. but since a hard drive failure in my powerbook g4 1.33 it's been no dice.
since getting the hd, everything has been reinstalled: 10.4.8, epson printer drivers, iworks; EVERYTHING. other apps print to the shared printer fine. (the shared printer is on a home network, connected to a mac pro. access via a wireless router (dlink))
i tried resetting the powerbook's PMU/PRAM. still, a popup window says: "error while printing."
when the PB is directly connected to the printer 'pages' prints fine, only to the shared printer. nothing on the network has changed at all. (except one of my attempts to fix this was to reset the printer system on the mac pro)
i've tried all the suggestions in the forum (searching for 'pages print error'), this includes turning off duplicate fonts with fontbook, resetting the printer system on the PB in various ways as suggested, deleting pref files and the like.
    steps to print involve these:
    1. open pages.
    2. open file
    3. select print, select shared printer.
    4. click print.
    5. a slight pause for about 1sec then the error message comes up: Error when printing.
any subsequent try at printing the same file or another file the message pops up immediately with no delay.
what am i missing? is there something on the network side?
i can't think of anything else to check. i've looked at apple support articles till the wee hours of the morning.
can someone offer any suggestions? you would have my undying gratitude!!
    cheers and happy holidays,

    hey folks,
i've used app zapper to delete pages and then re-installed it. same thing happens. no luck.
are there any other setting that pages might access? does PMSessionValidatePrintSettings refer to Print Manager?
could it be permissions on the print manager's plist file? i'm just guessing as there was a slight name change on her user name when her settings, etc. were imported thru the migration assistant after the hd failure. it's a guess as i've run into this problem when switching from my PPC to the Intel. my user name went from seanw to sean and some of my apps were still labeled with the old "seanw" as the owner. (this was because i dragged and dropped some stuff instead of using the MA as i didn't know it existed.)
if no solution presents itself how would i go about transferring my wife's user profile to another, new profile with out too much headache?
would i create the new user and use MA to transfer her stuff from her backup?
thanks for the suggestions, you have no idea how much this is appreciated.
    cheers,

  • Printing to shared printer over VPN link

We have been using the cisco VPN client connected to a 3020 concentrator for a while with no issues.
I have a user that wishes to print through the VPN tunnel to a remote printer from a system on the LAN. He is trying to use a program called Easy Label to print barcode labels. The software uses the windows printer list. The barcode printer is attached to the remote PC and is setup as a shared printer on the LAN. When they go to print labels they simply select the printer on the remote PC through the drop down box and everything works fine. It works just like printing on any other printer on the LAN.
They took this second PC, installed the VPN client and connected back to the LAN via the VPN tunnel. They are now unable to print to the remote PC and the barcode printer thru the share.
Could this be an issue with encapsulation through the tunnel and file & print services or an I missing something else?

Refer to the following document "PIX/ASA 7.x: Allow Local LAN Access for VPN Clients Configuration Example" in order to familar with local LAN access of the VPN client.

  • Printing to a Shared Printer on Windows

    Hello,
I just purchased my very first iMac. Been a WIndows guy since there was a Windows so it's a pretty steep learning curve. I have a Windows Server at home that has a shared printer. I can successfully setup the Printer in System Preferences - Print and Fax. The problem I'm having is that whenever I try to print something, I see the following error in status screen:
    "Error: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpll failed"
I also tried printing a test page thru the printer setup. The iMac prompts me for my password, I see the job disappear from the print queue but nothing comes out of the printer and I receive no errors. If I jump to my Windows Home Server and print a test page, it comes out correctly so from a connectivity standpoint, everything appears functional.
    Help!!!!

    Hi Victor,
This is a Windows Home Server that I built myself. I can get to my shares just fine from my Mac. My iTunes library is on a shared drive on my home server and I noticed that when I restart my Mac, it cannot find the library. I have to click on Select Library, navigate to my share drive on my Windows Home Server and that's it. I've already saved my password to the keychain so I never get prompted to enter a password.
When I go to Printer Fax from the Settings option, I can see my printer and it's status. I can click on the Print Queue and see that the printer is Ready.
If I click on Printer Setup and then select to Print a Test Page, I see that the Status reads "On Hold (Authentication Required). I enter my password and I can see that the Job Queue is looking like it's printing the job however nothing comes out of the printer.
When I print from TextEdit or from Safari is when I get the error I've referenced.
This is so frustrating 'cause it's all new but I know that it will only get better the more I use my new Mac.

  • Printer not showing up in "shared folder"

    Hello everyone:
Have B&W G3 when using under 10.2.8 printer( HP 4m) attached thru combo of ethernet/appletalk using asante bridge the printer shows up under "shared printer" and can be accessed thru my wireless network. When I upgraded to 10.3.9 the HP 4m printer does not show up in the "shared printer" folder but shows up only in B&W G3 printer folder and can only be used printer from B&W G3. To gain network access to the HP 4m I have to reboot my B&W G3 back into 10.2.8. ? Any solutions. Thanx
    Margie

That's great that everything is working for you, and I do appreciate your following this thread and your help. I too work in a print design environment with 5 G5's and 1 20" iMac all running 10.4.6. Like your office, everything works well. These machines have been on the bleeding edge of both Adobe and Apples' updates, and rarely have problems... Unfortunately, this is not the case for my powerbook, which is why I continue to post this question. My very un-scientific theory is that all of the machines that can print were setup while they were running earlier versions of tiger or panther, however, my PB was not. coincidence?
Anyway, since this is clearly an issue with Tiger and/or it's installation, is my next step an archive and install? How about the work around with deleting the printing preferences, etc. and re-installing from the dvd? Any potential ill effects from going these routes?
Do you, or anyone else following along, know if this is something Apple will address in 10.5? No disrespect intended, but take a look around this printing forum... it seems that most of these problems are similar in nature involving windows printing. just my 2 cents.

  • PC can't connect ( by bonjour ) to Mac shared printer

New Mac user love it so far - Love iLife!
I have an iMac, 10.5.1. Have an HP printer connected to the iMac and it works good. I wanted to share the printer to my wireless net so my windozes PC ‘s can print to it. I have shared it system preferences. When I run the bonjour printer setup wizard it reports that there are NO printer available.
what did I miss setting up to get allow the PC to connect to the MAC printer
    Thanks

    Have you looked into this?
Bonjour is a networking protocol that sends and receives network packets on UDP port 5353. If you have a "personal firewall" enabled, you will need to ensure that UDP port 5353 is open for Bonjour to work correctly. Certain firewalls will only partially block Bonjour packets, so if you experience intermittent behavior, check the firewall settings and verify that Bonjour is listed as an exception and is allowed to receive incoming packets. Bonjour will configure the Windows firewall appropriately during installation on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and above.
Does your situation meet these requirements?
I use Bonjour at work on a PC network, HP printers (4) no Macs. Works great.
At home I have a wireless HP printer that connects thru Bonjour with the Mac, but I have a PC notebook that prints to the printer with the standard TCP/IP setup in XP sp2. This requires installing drivers and assigning a port and all the rest of the garbage.
