Printing to a PDF file directly Using Adobe's Printer driver and NO GUI

We are on Oracle 10G running Oracle Forms/Reports 6i.
I would like to be able to run Oracle Reports directly to a PDF file using Adobe's pdf driver and not oracle's pdf driver (not happy with it). (This can be done easily enough) using Adobe's PDF Converter as the Printer.
My additional requirement is to provide the output filename to the Adobe's pdf driver and have the report be executed without any user intervention. How do I do this?
Thanks

Not following asking for more????
I just want to create pdf files with Oracle Reports (not using the Oracle PDF driver) but using one I have and the I will process these PDF files using my own utilities.

  • How to save print setup for pdf file so that every user can open and print w/o manually performing?

Can is there a way to configure the print settings (i.e. paper size, orientation, etc.) and save this setting as part of the pdf file? I would like the users of pdf files to be able to open the file and simply print, without having to manually configure the print settings.

Not sure if this will help. I got this information from the built-in help under Acrobat 9.
    Advanced
Lists PDF settings, print dialog presets, and reading options for the document. In the PDF settings for Acrobat, you can set a base Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for web links in the document. Specifying a base URL makes it easy for you to manage web links to other websites. If the URL to the other site changes, you can simply edit the base URL and not have to edit each individual web link that refers to that site. The base URL is not used if a link contains a complete URL address.
You can also associate a catalog index file (PDX) with the PDF. When the PDF is searched with the Search PDF window, all of the PDFs that are indexed by the specified PDX file are also searched.
You can include prepress information, such as trapping, for the document. You can define print presets for a document, which prepopulate the Print dialog box with document-specific values. You can also set reading options that determine how the PDF is read by a screen reader or other assistive device.
    Create print presets
A PDF can contain a set of print presets, a group of document-specific values that is used to set basic print options. By creating a print preset for a document, you can avoid manually setting certain options in the Print dialog box each time you print the document. It’s best to define print settings for a PDF at the time that you create it, but print presets provide a means to add basic print settings to a PDF at any time.
Choose File > Properties, and click the Advanced tab.
In the Print Dialog Presets section, set options and click OK.
The next time you open the Print dialog box, the values will be set to the print preset values. These settings are also used when you print individual documents in a PDF Portfolio.
Note: To retain a print preset for a PDF, you must save the PDF after creating the print preset.
    Print Dialog Presets
    Page Scaling
Prepopulates the Page Scaling option in the Print dialog box with the option you choose:
    Default
Uses the application default setting, which is Shrink To Printable Area.
    None
Prevents automatic scaling to fit the printable area. This setting is useful for preserving the scale of page content in engineering documents, or for ensuring that documents print at a particular point size to be legal.
    DuplexMode
For best results, the selected printer should support duplex printing if you select a duplex option.
    Simplex
Prints on one side of the paper.
    Duplex Flip Long Edge
Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the long edge.
    Duplex Flip Short Edge
Prints on both sides of the paper; the paper flips along the short edge.
    Paper Source By Page Size
Selects the option by the same name in the Print dialog box. Uses the PDF page size to determine the output tray rather than the page setup option. This option is useful for printing PDFs that contain multiple page sizes on printers that have different-sized output trays.
    Print Page Range
Prepopulates the Pages box in the Print Range section of the Print dialog box with the page ranges you enter here. This setting is useful in a workflow where documents include both instruction pages and legal pages. For example, if pages 1–2 represent instructions for filling out a form, and pages 3–5 represent the form, you can set up your print job to print multiple copies of only the form.
    Number Of Copies
Prepopulates the Copies box in the Print dialog box. Choose a number from 2 to 5, or choose Default to use the application default, which is one copy. This limitation prevents multiple unwanted copies from being printed.
    Thanks.

  • Attempting to transfer music files directly from iTunes to backup drive and get the the item can't be replaced because it's invisible. Its amazing how when something works flawlessly, Apple has to screw it up.  Never saw this until the new iTunes.

Hate it! Anywaze, suggestions welcome that can permanently remedy the issue without having to go through file by file, song by song to make copies, renaming, resetting, etc.  Thanks so much.

Are you dragging the entire iTunes folder across in Finder (which is easiest)?

  • Why can't I open PDF files created in Adobe X using Adobe XI? How do I fix this?

Why can't I open PDF files created using Adobe X in Adobe XI?

I try and open them in Reader (double left click on the file) and all I get is a single screen with two overlapping frames neither of which have anything to do with the subject although the presentation title is at the top.  One of the frames had "Adobemail.com" on it. Our work computers were recently up-graded to Adobe XI and this was the first time I tried to open a presentation that has worked fine in the past.  I would have thought that Adobe XI would have been backward  compatible, but it doesn't seem so. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have an 08:00 First-Aid class tomorrow and need this presentation.  Apparently Adobe forums are off-line for up-grades.  Thanks

  • How to print pdf file not using the the adobe reader ?

    hello,
i used the adobe sdk to open a pdf file in read and modify it serveral times and each time save it to another directory, and now i need to write a program to print the pdf file in this directory.when print the file,i want to continue my work also,so who i tell me how to solve this problem?
    thanks.

The SDK is only a collection of documentation and headers that show you how to interact with and automate Adobe Acrobat and to some extent Adobe Reader. You need a copy of Acrobat or Reader installed on the system in order to use any of the SDK functions. You cannot "print not using the Adobe Reader", unless you have Adobe Acrobat installed on the system instead of Reader.

  • Creating an Adobe .pdf file without using the Adobe printer

Is it possible to create a .pdf file by using Acrobat or Microsoft Word or any other program without using a printer driver? So far, when I remove the Adobe printer, I cannot create a .pdf file, as it is looking for the printer and printer driver. Is it even possible to create a .pdf without using, or having, a PDF printer of any sort? Any help on this issue would be most helpful. Thanks.

I was trying to find a way to create PDFs without using the Adobe printer, or any PDF printer. I posed this question to see if there was a way to create a PDF without the aid of a printer or not. I mean, I know how to reinstall the Adobe printer, since I had to to see if there was another way to go about creating without using the printer. I am just curious if there is a way to create a PDF file without the aid of the Adobe printer or other PDF printers.

  • How to print pdf files not using acrobat product?

i just want to print pdf files, but not want to use the adobe acrobat or acrobat reader, just want to write a tools print pdf files directly.

    > no i just want to print it,not need to read it.can you help me?
Well, the problem is to print it you need to be able to read it. Something needs to convert it into a format the printer can understand (most printers are PostScript or PCL).
I'm not sure you entirely understand what a PDF file is. It's not a fancy text file. It's a binary format. Saying "I want to print a PDF without a PDF interpreter" is like saying "I want to run an EXE without Windows". You need software to interpret the format.
You certainly can write your own software to interpret the PDF format, convert it to a print language and output that to a printer, but as Aandi said you will need to start by reading the PDF Reference so you know how the inside of a PDF file works, and it will most likely take several years of development even for a seasoned, expert programmer. It's just not as simple as "Printer, meet PDF. PDF, meet printer."

  • Print PDF file directly to store printer

    Hi Gurus,
Having not found a solution, we think we need help from you. We have searched forums and google but have not found adequate solutions.
We are a retailer having different stores. Our main office is using SAP. Each store has its printer and defined in our SAP system. We want to print PDF files directly to store printer using SAP . How should we do that ? We think there are 2 steps:
    1) Upload PDF files from network directory into SAP (We done it, no problem)
    2) Having now PDF files in internal tables, how should we proceed to print PDF files using store printers?
Please note that we do not want to use CL_GUI_PDFVIEWER since we do not want to display the PDF and having the obligation to choose the print option from dialog and also we do not want to call Adobe OLE object  to print
    Any answer would be appreciated
    Thank you very much

  • Orarrp can't print pdf file directly to printer

oracle remote print utility (orarrp) can't print pdf file directly to printer.
we expect orarrp utility can handle ".rrpa" file (i.e. pdf file generated on the application server) by directly print the file to the client's printer, i.e. invoke the acrobat reader on the client side, display the the printer selection dialogue, after confirmation print the pdf file, then the acrobat reader close automatically nicely.
However we are disappointed as the acrobat reader startup and display the pdf file content but does not print and does not close.
After testing the problem several times, there are some findings:-
    Finding (A):-
    (a) for the success of direct printing of pdf file, a physical path must be provided; we have tried 2 methods:
    1) using drag & drop to copy the pdf file directly to the browser
    2) open pdf file in the browser directly using browser menu-->File-->Open.
    (b) for the failure of direct printing, a virtual path is involved and we have also tried 2 methods:
    1) when web.show_document() is used
    2) enter the url to the URL bar of the browser,
    eg. http://appsvr.com:7777/report/test_printout/APPSVR1094707.rrpa (this is a virtual path/url)
    Finding (B):-
(a)when the physical path is used, a temporary pdf file is generated in the same directory where the rrpa file exists in the application server,
e.g. in application server: d:/printout/yyy.pdf is generated for d:/printout/xxx.rrpa when direct print occurs
    (b) however when the virtual path is used, there is no such temp "pdf" file generated and direct print failed.
May be when virtual path is used, orarrp utility don't know where to generate the temp "pdf" so direct print doesn't occur.
So, anyone has similar experience or further queries or has solutions, please join.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • Can't print scanned pdf files  Xerox 3450  Adobe Pro and Reader 9

I have a user that cannot print PDF's made up of scanned images to a network printer.
The job goes to the printer and spools up but hangs at either 64kb or 255kb and then errors out.
Even if I print just one page, it does the same thing.
Folks with Acrobat Pro 8 or Reader 8 can print the same file to the same printer with no problems.
    OS: XP
Network Printer: Xerox Phaser 3450 PS
Adobe:  Reader 9.1.3 and  Acrobat Professional 9.1.3
    I have tried the following:
On the Xerox 3450 PS Printer:
    - disabling Advanced Printing Options
    - changing Post script options to: EPS, optimize for speed, optimize for portablity
    - reloading the printer drivers
    - unmapping/remapping the printer on the customer's system.
In the Reader and Acrobat Pro print options:
    - print only Document rather than Document and Markups
    - print as image
    - unchecked 'convert to true type1'
    - changed options to Send for each page, send by range,
    - tried using Language level 2
    - reinstalling Adobe Reader 9
This happens once the customer is upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.  If I disable the 'Advanced Printer options' he can print OCR/Text PDF files but cannot print even a single page Scanned image PDF file. The spooler hangs at 255kb and then the print job errors out.
I confirmed this  same issue on multiple machines and on other Xerox 3450 printers on multiple print servers.  It is the same for Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.
The machines and  users are in different parts of the country on different print servers but the symptoms are the same: after being upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.1.3 or Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 they cannot send certain PDF files (so far just scanned image files) to a Xerox 3450 PS network printer.
Any suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated.

This problem plagued me for several weeks, until I found a solution that has allowed me to print scanned documents as quickly as a text document.
I have confirmed this worked on several network X3450 printers using Adobe Reader 9.1.3 and Adobe Acrobat Professional v9.1.3
In the Reader and Acrobat Pro print options:
Click on the Advanced button and uncheck "Print as image" if it's checked.
Click on "Let printer determine colors" to enable this option
        Click OK and Print.
After making this change, the document queued up and printed as fast a any text document printed.
I had a single page scanned text document which was about 19 KB, but when sent to the printer, the spooler grew from 10 MB to 50 MB to 80 MB, until an error occurred. Like you I tried many combinations until one worked. Then it was a matter of figuring out which setting was primarily responsible for allowing it to print quickly.
Most likely the problem is with the raster image processor (RIP) within Adobe Reader and Acrobat. By selecting the option to "Let the printer determine colors", it passes that part of the processing over to the RIP within the printer. Since the X3450 is not a color printer, the information is easily converted to grayscale and printed.
I'm still trying to absorb the information in the articles I have read so far, and I welcome any discussion about this from those more knowledgeable than I.
I hope this fix works for you as it did for me. I made a lot of happy customers once they were able to print since most of their documents are scanned rather than created with Acrobat.

  • Used to be able to print multiple page pdf files on my HP 7310 all in one and then it stopped and would only print the curent page. This is tedious for long PDF docs. I am on 10.6.8 .

Used to be ablert to print multiple page pdf files on my HP 7310 all in one printer and now I can only print the current page and therefore it takes forever printing them one by one. I am in version 10.6.8. Tried printing as image using the advanced click and that did not work either.  I have Adobe 9.0 reader installed.

I tried this earlier, and I tried it again today.  Both times it said "Software Missing!"  and "HP Software required to connect to your printer over the network could not be found on this computer."  But when I tried to install the software (AIO_CDB_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe, which I downloaded from HP's web site), it wouldn't install, as described above.  In the diagnostic utility, I clicked "skip", and it said "Connection Verified!", and "The printer is connected to the network and the services related to the network connections have been verified and reset to a normal operating state.  Everything appears to work fine at this point.  Please doa test print to verify that the issue is resolved or click Skip to move to the next step."  I clickedthe "Test Print" button, and immediately it popped up a box that said "Test Print Failed."
I tried again to install the HP software, and it installed, detected the printer, and asked me to select it.  I selected the printer, clicked "next", and it did its network diagnostics.  Then it said "Problem(s) found with your network" and "Problem(s) may exist with the network functions of your printer . . ."  I continued the installation without connecting to the printer.  Then I ran your network printer diagnostic tool again, and got the same result - "HP Software required to connect to youir printer over the network could not be found on this computer."
