Printing to Adobe PDF problem

CS3 suite installed on Windows XP.  When trying to print to PDF, I get the following:
If I reboot the computer, it will fix itself and run fine for a few days, and then I get the message again.  I have tried "repairing" the installation via the Windows Control Panel, but it doesn't seem to fix it.  I don't get this problem on my Laptop installation of the same software using Windows 7. Does anyone have a clue?  Everything else within the CS3 platform seems to work ok.

Perhaps so,e Acrobat update messes with this, but well, at that point Win XP is dead as in really dead, so anything is possible.

  • Print/Create Adobe pdf problems

I have always been able to create a pdf of any page that I was viewing on the web or on Microsoft word.  I tried it again today and I am getting an error message.  I print the page and select the Adobe pdf as the printer.  Normally, it would ask me to rename it and to select the location I would like it saved.  I am now getting a message saying "Invalid Adobe pdf printer properties, Do not change spooler settings.  Please select Print directly to the printer option from the Advanced window."  I never changed my options so I am not sure why this would pop up suddenly.  I even try to change the setting like the message said but this ends up doing nothing but giving me an error message by the printer icon on the bottom of my screen.  What can I do?

    If you get this:
    Invalid "Adobe PDF" printer properties
    Do not change spooler settings.
Please select "print directly to the printer" option (from Adobe PDF printer properties "advanced" tab)
    Try this:
Find the Acrobat printer in Printers.
Right click on it and select Properties then the Advanced Tab.
For me, "Spool print documents..." was selected.
The Fix:  Deselect "Enable advanced printing features".
    Click OK.

  • Printing to "Adobe PDF 8.0" from fails on Snow Leopard

Creating a PDF using Apple's native "Save as PDF" functionality does not preserver hyperlinks created in Microsoft Word documents.
On Snow Leopard 10.6.3, using Microsoft Office 2008 and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0, I have found that printing to the printer option called "Adobe PDF 8.0" fails to generate a PDF --- at all!
The errors are below. I tried this with a very simple document that said "This document has a hyperlink." The result was the same regardless of whether the word "hyperlink" was a link or not.
I found that printing any web page from Safari generates the same error. Looks like this is a general Adobe PDF problem on Snow Leopard -- or is it just my installation?
Any help or pointers to help would be very much appreciated.

  • IE8 crashes during print to Adobe PDF (Acrobat 9 Pro)

IE8 and MS Paint both crash during print to Adobe PDF.  Neither an update to latest version of Acrobat 9 Pro (9.5.3) nor running repair installation will fix this issue.  Operating system is Windows 7 SP1.
Installed third party PDF Printer so that these two apps can print to pdf.
    Any ideas?

The reinstall is typically the last ditch effort to do. The first step is Help>Repair and Help>Updates. As far as Office 2013, the PDF Maker of AA X is not compatible and you can only print. In your list of errors it showed a problem with AcroTray.exe. As a first step, go to the print and select print-to-file. The file will be a PS file (maybe with a PRN extension). Once the printer if finished, open the file in Distiller to complete the process. If that is successful, then the problem is with AcroTray. Check your running tasks to be sure AcroTray is indeed running. If not, that is likely the problem. If it is, then restart it (it is located in the Acrobat folder). AcroTray provides the interface between the PS creation and Distiller to automate the process of creating the PDF.

  • After 9.3 update getting error printing to Adobe PDF while converting from Powerpoint to PDF

That happened after upgrading Acrobat Pro 9.1.2 to 9.2->9.3 on Windows XP sp2 platform. Converting from other Microsoft Office 2003 products is totally normal(Excel, Word) Did anyone came accross and know how to fix that?? We have many users with exactly same issue.

    thanks...figured out my problem!

What happens if you try to print to the Adobe PDF printer?

  • FrameMaker hangs and can't print to Adobe PDF

FrameMaker has been hanging and blowing up on me. Specifically, it hangs when I try to save all the chapters in a book. Some of these books are very small, maybe 20 or 30 pages. After I stop Frame thru Task Manager and reboot, I can reopen the book and my changes appear to be there. I looked through the forum and saw something that said it might be because the PC doesn't have enough memory. It has 3.5 GB RAM. Isn't that enough?
Also, when I print (to my default printer = Adobe PDF), if I unselect "print to file," nothing happens - no Distiller window opens - I don't see any new files generated. I can "save as PDF" just fine. I can "print to Adobe PDF" from other apps, just not from Frame. I can "print to file" and then open the resulting .ps; then Distiller opens and creates the PDF file. This is annoying - it used to automatically launch Distiller and create the PDF in one step instead of two.
I'm putting both this issues in a single topic because they both started at about the same time.
I tried re-installing Frame and Acrobat, but I didn't uninstall first.
I'm using Windows XP Pro and Frame 8.0p277.
So where do I go from here?
    Thanks

Yes, the location for the Adope PDF printer had garbage in it. I fixed that. That has now fixed the problem.
However, Art's reply gave me an idea. I am using FrameMaker 8.0p277 (the version that came with Tech Comm Suite). Also, Acrobat 8 3D came with it.
Since then, however, I have installed Acrobat 9 Pro (which also provided Distiller 9).
Could it be that FrameMaker is trying to call Distiller 8, which no longer exists on my computer)?
    Answering prev questions:
"So if you uncheck Print To File so the distiller generates the PS file and distills it automatically, nothing happens, right? It just sits there?
    and
Have you tried selecting a different Job Option, like Standard, or High Quality?"
Yes, if I uncheck Print to File, nothing happens and no .ps or .pdf is created.
On the properties of my Adobe PDF printer
There are actually four entries. It does not seem to matter which one I choose.
I'm working now on seeing if I can get Acrobat re-installed.

  • Internet Explorer 9 Printing to Adobe PDF Printer

Missing Some Document Folders in Windows 7 Professional w/ Internet Explorer 9 Printing to Adobe PDF Printer.
    Document Library contains 81 folders.
With Internet Explorer 9 running – when I print to Adobe PDF Printer and try to locate a specific Document Library folder - 9 of the 81 folders are missing.
From Internet Explorer 9 – I locate a word or PDF document that I need to print to Adobe PDF Printer - This is the procedure that I follow:
    Print
    Select Printer
    Adobe PDF
    Libraries
    Documents
My Documents - where 9 of the 81 folders are missing
    Additional Information . . .
When I right click on a screen object in IE9 and select "Save As" I am able to locate and access all 81 folders.
With the same task and procedure from Microsoft Chrome – all 81 folders are shown and accessible.
Any help or pointing in the right direction greatly appreciated.

That shouldn't even be possible: Standard and Pro are mutually exclusive. Not surprised it has broken.
    My recommendation
    a. Make sure you have your Standard serial numbers and install media.
    b. Uninstall the one you don't want at the moment.
    c. REPAIR the one you do want.

  • Acrobat X Pro: Word 2003 Hangs Up When I Print to Adobe PDF

I have to print to Adobe PDF a LOT.  Recently, I have been unable to do so from Word 2003.  Whenever I go to print, it says "Word is preparing to background print your document" and freezes.  I have experimented with turning background printing off, but that doesn't seemt o help.  Help please!

You might also play with the printer spooling. Just change it to the opposite of what is currently set and see if that resolves the issue. You might also try to print to file with the Adobe PDF printer and then opening the file in Distiller to complete the process (the file will be a PS file, possibly with a PRN extension). If the latter works, you at least have a workaround for now.
You might also go to Help>Repair and see if that resolves the issue. I would also recommend the updates with Help>Updates.

  • Printing to Adobe PDF Changes Checkbox Selection in Document

    Hi,
We have a PDF that we got from a client from their financial institution. One page has sets of checkboxes on it.
If we do File - Save As and save it as another PDF, the checkboxes stay as is.
If we print the file to our digital copier, the checkboxes stay as is.
However, if we print the PDF to the Adobe PDF print driver, the values of the checkboxes change.
    Before print to Adobe PDF:

    Yes
    <no response>
    After print to Adobe PDF:
    No
    No
    Yes and No
It's as if the printed copy gets the photo negative values of the checkboxes that were actually checked on the original.
I've tried all of the different options in the Adobe PDF printer preferences, like unchecking "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts" as well as all of the "Comments and Markup" dropdown box settings and the Page Sizing options doesn't seem to matter either.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? I've tried it on both Acrobat Standard 11.0.0 and 10.1.6
    Thanks in advance,
    John

Is the ESR version of Mozilla Firefox?  If not, then try that version to see if the issue persists.
BTW the ESR version of Mozilla Firefox IS the supported version of Mozilla Firefox.

  • 3D PDF files in portfolio prints to Adobe PDF printer without content

3D PDF files in portfolio prints to Adobe PDF printer without content, but if printed from single 3D PDF file everything is fine. I need batch printing (this is the reason I use portfolio) of large amount of 3DPDF files because of the need to have proper preview of these files in browsers. Any ideas or workarounds how to have preview pdf's or jpg's of the single paged 3D PDF files, keeping relevant file names?

I suspected as much.  I was hopeful it was something like a setting that needed to be changed or a reg hack that needed a bit changed from 0 to 1 to make the printing work as expected.  I only installed the local printer to see if the RDP session
tunnel was in fact causing the print size to balloon so I will continue to instruct users to use that instead of the local redirected printer.  I am disappointed but not surprised.
    Edit:
Additionally I have tested the functionality of setting the GPO settings for Easy Print to use the redirected printer's drivers instead of the ones used by easy print, by setting “Computer
Configuration -> Administrative templates -Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host -> Printer Redirection”.
    to “Disabled” but
with no luck.  In fact the printer received the proper Adobe PDF driver, but the job went out into print spool hell and was lost to the ether.  I have concluded that this approach will not bear any fruit.

  • Print to Adobe pdf does not give option for .pdf file

I recently installed Acrobat X Pro.  I have a 10-page pdf document open in Acrobat.  I want to eliminate the first page and save the other 9 in another file. In previous versions, I would select Print and then select the printer "Adobe PDF".  When I do this now, the Save As File Type gives me only one choice - All Files *.* - which is useless.  If I am in any other application the Save As File Type comes up .pdf. I don't think it is the installation, because I installed this on my desktop and laptop and it is doing the same thing in both of them.  The operating system for both computers is Windows 7 64-bit.  What can I do to fix this?  Is it just a matter of changing a setting that I am not aware of?  Thank you in advance to anyone who will help.

For Acrobat X I went to Tools - Pages - and the delete choice was grayed out.  I thought I could get the same result by using the Print to Adobe PDF command.  From any other application I can print to Adobe PDF, just not in Acrobat.  Does Acrobat X not let you do this, or is it just on mine?  And if it is only on mine, what do I do to fix it?  By the way, I am able to delete pages from other documents, just not the particular document I am currently working with.
    Any other suggestions anyone?

  • Issue with HelveticaNeue text not being included when printing to Adobe PDF?

I have a document (Word 2010 docx) with a section of HelveticaNeue text on the front page that when printing through Adobe PDF the text does not appear.
    Using Acrobat 9.4.6
    Tried the same document with:
    Win2Pdf - Displays correctly
Converted to .doc - Displays correctly
File\Save as PDF - Dispalys correctly
Any ideas? I can post the document up here but I can't see an option to.

You can try disabling the “Rely on system fonts only: do not use document fonts” option in printer properties.
To do the same.In MS Word:
    Goto File -> Print
    Select Adobe PDF as printer.
    Click on "Printer Properties".
Go to "Adobe PDF Settings" tab.
Uncheck the “Rely on system fonts only: do not use document fonts”
Click Ok and try printing the document
Also update your Acrobat to latest version 9.5.0.
You can download the patch form: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5330

  • Strange artifact in Illustrator PDF, only when printing via Adobe PDF printer

    Hello,
I've run into a strange issue with an artifact in a PDF generated by Illustrator using the Adobe PDF printer. When I "Save As" a PDF, this artifact does not show. Using the same job options, printing via Adobe PDF creates this artifact. The object is behind the content and it's a semi-transparent box that was manipulated using Free Distort. It's behind everything so shouldn't even show up, but the outline is showing up for some reason. In the past I've had similar issues with artifacts and I changed my Adobe Compatibility to the latest version, and it fixed the issue, but that didn't work this time. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks,

I had to zoom in to see the faint lines you are talking about and they are there. As a test, try printing to the Adobe PDF printer.

  • Create PDF or Print to Adobe PDF?

I have several Word and Publisher documents that I use as templates. I load them into Publisher or Word and then slightly adjust them (change names dates etc) before creating a pdf..
In the past I've almost always made the pdf by using the print dialog to send the job through the Adobe PDF printer, but seeing that there was a menu option in Acrobat X Pro to "Create PDF" I tried that.
Of course it worked fine but asked me to save the file before it could create the pdf.
As the file is a template I don't want to keep overwriting it when using the menu "Create PDF" option so I guess the question is - in this instance - is using the print dialog the best way for me to create my pdf's from my templates so that I'm not prompted to overwrite the original file?

OK one last question regarding PDF jpg image output quality...
I've printed two examples one through the Adobe PDF Printer - Standard Setting (pdf1)
and (pdf2) created with "Create PDF" (PDF Maker) from MS Publisher menu - again Standard Setting.
Both file sizes are pretty much the same and the "quality" of the image is nearly the same except that the pink circle highlighter (in the pdf) is much clearer in the file that was created using "PDF Maker" from MS Publisher menu.
PDF1 below was made with Acrobat X Pro Print dialog - Adobe PDF Printer - Standard Setting
PDF2 below was made with Acrobat X Pro "Create PDF" (PDF Maker) from MS Publisher menu - again Standard Setting
Is there a reason for this?
