Printing to Canon iPF series

Historically I've always printed from Photoshop via the 16-bit Canon plugin. This works great. I just thought I'd give native Ap3 printing a try for once. After I go through the (awkward, buggy) layout feature in Aperture, it appears to hand off to the OS X print dialog.
There, it appears to have correctly picked up my color profile setting (custom) and my paper type and size (letter cut-sheet). After setting some additional options (media type, resolution), when I hit Print, the Canon monitor application starts and the combination Aperture+OSX Print Dialog locks up. It just sits there with no options in the dropdown. The printer actually lights up as if it's ready to print, but nothing goes over the wire.
I can print okay from other applications using the built-in print driver, so I think it is something with Aperture.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Hello Jeff,
The problem you are having with the Canon PS and UFR2 driver is caused by the Paper Size > US Letter not being listed as a supported paper size. Instead, these two drivers have Letter, not US Letter. Therefore, when you do have the Page Setup > Format set to Any Printer and the Paper Size set to US Letter, the finishing options are not available.
You will notice an interesting phenomena via the Page Setup pane. Open an application like TextEdit, go to Page Setup and have the Format set to Any Printer and the Paper Size set to US Letter. Then change the Format menu to the Canon driver and watch the Paper Size automatically change to Letter.
The solution to this is to delete the CanonPS and UFR2 driver and use the new Canon 'CUPS' PS v2.11 driver. This driver has US Letter as a supported paper size, so you can leave 'Format for' at 'Any Printer'. And the driver supports both the 5075 and C5185, so you models are covered. Note that you will still have to use the Fiery driver for the other C5185.
Re the mailbox, the format setting won't affect this function. Your comment about PCL not supporting it is interesting. The PCL driver on Windoze definitely works with mailbox so you must have some other gremlins if that is not available.

PaHu

  • Aperture 3.01 Printing to Canon iPF 6100 Broken

No matter what print size i specifiy in the print dialog, the iPF plugin always gets 8.5"x11" paper size.
Unusable. This worked before the update.
    Please please please.
I need to be able to print contact sheets!
    If anyone has a workaround?
Otherwise i'm leaving for Capture One Pro and so is my studio 10+ licenses.

Hello Ernie and thank you for your inputs.
    Using the Canon Printer Driver there is not as such a "Color Management OFF" function (that I am aware of). However to quote Canon Help;
    +"*For Mac OS X v.10.5.x*+
+When you want to print by using the color space (Adobe RGB or sRGB) of the image data effectively or _by specifying a printing ICC profile from your application software, select ColorSync_+."
    It goes on to say;
+" Select color correction - Select the item below that matches your purpose.+
    ColorSync
+You can print by using the color space (Adobe RGB or sRGB) of the image data effectively.+
+Depending on the application software, when a printing ICC profile is specified from that application software, Vendor Matching cannot be selected because ColorSync is selected automatically.+"
As far as I understand This is the same as "Color Management OFF", as it is managed by the application. By the way these settings are the same when printing from both applications.
Regarding Proofing Preview, I've set the profile to match the Printer Profile for the paper I use and then tried printing with and without the preview on.
    Cheers

  • Printing on Canon ipf 6400 using 17 inch roll canvas

I am new at Lightroom and new at the printer. I am using 17 inch wide rolled canvas, printing an image 11 x 11 inches on a Canon ipf 6400, rather than wasting canvas at side of the 11 inch print, and using only 11 inches of the roll, it prints on the one edge of the canvas leaving the other 6 inches unused, but then it rolls down to a full length of 17 inches, thus wasting another  6 inches, full width of 17 inches. I need someone to tell me how to set Lightroom features so that printer only rolls out 11 inches of paper needed for the print.

I'm having same issues trying to print to custom sizes in Preview.
Possible work-around (not a solution, but might allow you to print and meet a deadline): I found I could set my Custom paper size as the Default in the Print & Scan Preference Pane.
Now, my print job still had issues, but it may work for your Aperture job. Of course, the PIA is that you have to remember to go back into Preferences and reset Default Paper Size...
Hope Apple is aware of - and working on - printing issues...

  • I could not print using Canon MF8300C Series with Yosemite 10.10.1

After download and installing, I am not able to print using MF8300C Series. Help anyone?

So assuming that you have downloaded and installed the Canon MF Driver v10.3.0, have you been able to add the printer in Printers & Scanners? And if yes, does this printer go through the motions as if it is going to print that then fails?

  • Installed OS update now can't print from Canon MF4500 series

Have just updated to 10.8.5 and triend to install new printer drivers for Canon MF4580dn printer but drivers aren't recognised and I cannot print

Not quite sure what you mean by the drivers aren't recognised but if you mean the MF4500 is not listed in the Add Printer window, then this can happen sometimes and often the simple solution is to restart the Mac.
If this is not what you mean then can you provide more information please.

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

Hi, thaks for response, meant to post as a discussion (not question), wanted to save others time if they get the same problem

  • 9.4.3 - Can't print my PDFs to a Canon IPF 8000s

    Hi Everyone!
I would appreciate any advice regarding the above.
For the last two years, I have been able to create work in In-Design CS4 then export it via Acrobat Pro into a PDF and print successfully to a Canon IPF 8000s.
I have updated the various drivers, adobe software over this time and all has been well in my camp.
Just two weeks ago, the printhead on the Canon was changed....and since my printed posters are missing lettering, etc.
I've been chatting with the Canon guys and we've eliminated the printer as a problem.
The problem lies with Acrobat Pro 9.4.3
Is anyone having a similar problem with 9.4.3?
    Cheers VW/MK

Thanks for your time but I have no idea how to 'roll back to 10.6.6'. Discussions around this do not actually explain how to do it, well not in a way that makes me confident.
I have time machine but have never used it.
The odd thing is that some PDFs - eg those generated by my website - print perfectly. The ones that don't have been created in InDesign CS5.
    Thanks

  • Canon 2100 Series printing in reverse order

I have a Canon 2100 series -- an MG 2120.  When I print things out, they come out in the tray in reverse order -- a six page document will thus have p. 6 on top when I take the stack out.  I cannot find a setting on my computer to make things print out in reverse order, so that page one will be on top and I won't have to manually put multipage documents in order.  Help?

    Hi oldwest,
To change the order in which pages are printed, please follow the steps located at the link below:

  • Buying new all-in-one printer- canon pixma series?

    hi!
i really wanna replace my hp 5610 with a better, faster printer.
    * fax
    * duplex (feeder ofc) scanner
    * duplex printing
    * five ink cartridges (not combined)
    * network access: ethernet OR wifi. which will connect to the router; wireless or wired.
    **cheap black ink**
well, i checked out canon pixma series. the real problem is that i dont know what "mac support" mean. at my hp 5610, hp say the printer is mac cimpatible. but as i worked with windows and mac, i can honestly say the mac support is as good as nothing... just to add "mac supported" at the features.
i am a student so i will print much @ black. plus i always scan my papers so i really need duplex scaning too.
what do you say about the canon pixma mx860 model?
if you can recommend other models (*not HP!!!!*) i will love to know.
    thanks!

I would actually recommend the [PIXMA MX870|http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/Printers/PIXMA-InkJet-Printers/MX870].
It has 5 individual tanks with a high volume black tank for text printing.
    Duplex document feeder
    Wireless or Ethernet support
Mac OS X printer and scanner driver included as part of Apple Software Update
well my hp (which *****) also have "mac support" via apple software update. the peoblem is that its features lacking and even the simplest operations like increasing brightness/contrast are missing.
i would prefer the manufacturer's software is its full featured + ofc mac supported.

I am very happy with my MX 850, a predecessor. I use it for most of my printing, except that I have a color laser printer for really big jobs. I suspect that the cost of consumables is comparable on both printers, as 5-8 ink cartridges print about the same as a laser cartridge, and cost about the same as well. Maybe the laser is a bit more expensive, when the other consumables are taken into account.
Scanning is very convenient. I also use the printer as a card reader, although the computer cannot write to them.
do you use canons software or the apple built-in? can you set a new profile with higher brightness+higher contrast?
what about the duplex feature? for scanning? works well? fast? those kind of details usually arent taking into consideration either at specs nor reviews

  • MacBook Air can not find canon f8500 series printer on network.

MacBook Air running OS X Yosemite can not find Canon MF8500 series printer on wireless network. AirPrint is turned on at printer. iPhone iOS 8.2 can not AirPrint to printer as well. Recently switched from Verizon to Comcast for internet service, no issues before switch. Tried to add printer via IP address, it was located but could not print to printer.

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system  also Yosemite
Try setting it up as something other than AirPrint. I have seen several posts where that was the problem.
