Printing to Canon S9000 Issue - Black Lines - Mac

All,
Having some issues (assume Driver) with printing from LR 2.3 and CS3 going to Canon S9000. Printing from Preview is fine. However iPhoto shows the same thing. I am getting evenly spaced (about 5mm apart) thin black lines when printing. It is consistent across different papers, including Canon Photo Paper Pro. I called Canon yesterday, and the fact that Preview works fine would seem to indicate something with the driver and Adobe and iPhoto. I'm not talking a microbanding. These are very distinct black lines. I've tried letting the printer manage the color, I've also tried using profile with the printer. I am using the most current BJ driver from the Canon site for the Mac (Leopard) and the printer.
Images from QImage on my Windows machine are also fine to the printer with I have it hooked up there.. Could use some help in debugging (hopefully without using up all the ink) :-)
Also getting occasional random "LR unexpected termination" message after printing.. One time happens, another doesn't.. No rhyme or reason I can see.
Update: Unexpected Termination seems to happen more often when stacking up a few prints in the print queue.
Jay S.

Even worse...
we have three machines updated today and the exact same problem on each of them:
Indesign CS3, Acrobat 8
Printing to Distillers Virtual Printer.
Previously Pages were PDF-ed in the format they had.
Now they are NOT - they all are on A4. The PDF-Options of Apple mess up the PDF-Options of Indesign. Apples PDF-Options do no longer ignore the pagesize, but overwrite the Indesign-Options.
This is a MAJOR bug for us, as any output into high-res-PDF for printing doesn't work via export, but via Printing to Distiller. This is a big big sucky thing, which Adobe or Apple will hopefully fix soon.

  • Printer Utility Canon S9000

    Hello,
I recently switched over to Mac and I am trying to get my Canon S9000 printer to function properly. I downloaded the print drivers from Canon's site and the printer works fine. The only problem is I can't find the printer utility (I figured it was with the drivers) and therefore can't clean the heads or determine how much ink I have left. Anyone have any ideas? Its suppose to be in the utility folder but I can't find it.

For most of the Canon printers, the utility is part of the driver software. If the printer is connected via USB to the Mac, you should be able to access the utility by opening the printer queue and selecting the Utility icon. Note that this Utility, and therefore the icon, is only available when the printer is connected to the Mac via USB. If you are sharing the printer via Windows or via a print server, then the utility is not available.
If the printer is connected to the Mac via USB and for whatever reason the Utility icon is not available, then you can access the utility via ./Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities (where . stands for your hard drive). In this directory you will see the Canon BJ (or IJ) Utility. Double click to run the utility, which gives you access to all the maintenance functions.

  • How to uninstall print drivers Canon MF4150 issues

Hello all, I am having a nightmare of a time getting my Canon MF4150 to print. It looks from all of the threads on here it was a less than ideal choice for a Mac owner.
When I first bought the unit I managed to get it to print, everything seemed peachy.
Problems arose when I wanted to use the unit to scan. I downloaded a variety of third party software and drivers in an attempt to get the scan function working. I had mixed results, and this process seemed to upset the printing side of things. Once I scanned a document, the printer would then not work.
I abandoned the idea of scanning through the MF4150 and have gone back to dedicated Epson scanner.
Since then I have not had any luck getting the printer to print again.
I have gone through all the MF4150 related threads on these boards I can find, and followed the process to installed outlined here - https://discussions.apple.com/message/7657893#7657893 but to no avail.
I really just want this thing to print and it's driving me nuts.
I have the printer attached directly to my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2. I'm not trying to print through the Airport.
I would like to know how to completely uninstall any UFR II drivers and related software / information and start this process from the beginning again.
So far, using the answer provided by PAHU here https://discussions.apple.com/message/7657893#7657893
    I have -
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    > DONE
    2. Select the MF4150 printer and press the minus " - " button to remove the printer. Do the same to any other printers that are in the printer list.
    > DONE
    3. Hold down the Control key and click in the empty printer list. A window showing 'Reset printing system' will display. Click this.
    > DONE
    4. Close the Print & Fax utility.
    > DONE
    5. Run the Canon UFR2 v1.70 installer and select Uninstall when the Easy Install menu appears
    > This is where I get snagged. I'm not offered a Uninstall option. I have attached a screen grab of the window I am presented with. I am currently trying the "o1141enx_m_ufr224" version of the UFR driver. I have continued to complete the points below regardless of the fact i cannot uninstall.
    6. Restart the Mac and run the v1.70 installer again to add the UFR2 files back onto your Mac
    7. Go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Select the Mac OS X partition in the left pane and select 'Repair Disk Permissions'. When this has completed, quit Disk Utility
    8. Open Print & Fax and add the MF4270 again
    9. Open TextEdit, type some simple text and select to print.
    10. Report back if the above doesn't get you printing.
I have also attach a screen grab of the process I go through when adding the printer.
Any help with this would be amazing. I've tried everything I can think of.
My latest idea is to try and remove any trace of previous printer drivers and go from there. You can see in my list of available drivers in the file attached I now have all sorts of UFR drivers in the list.
Again, if anyone can throw me a line on this that would be great.
    Thanks & Regards
    Coz

    Hello Coz,
It's been a while since you've posted, I hope you have not given up.  I was having grief with my MF4150 as well, but got it working.  There is a more current driver - search for Mac_UFRII_V230_uk_EN and install it.
Then, when you go to add your printer through System Preferences > Print & Fax, make sure you click the "default" icon in the top of the dialog.  It should show your Canon MF 4100 series , then use the bottom drop down menu to choose your driver and select Canno MF410 Series UFRII LT (UK) from the list.

  • Canon Mp520 issues on my Mac Leopard, someone please help me!

    Hello fellow Imac-ers.
I recently re-plugged in my printer after moving into my home and am having some nasty issues. My printer is a Canon PIXMA mp520, and has never given me these sorts of problems and I am completely stumped.
When I try to go through the Add-Printer process through the System Preferences, it asks me to select a driver. Now, there must be more than 500 of these, and I simply cannot figure which one to use.
I chose a Canon Pixma 600 drive, and my printer seemed to respond at first. It goes through the process of printing the paper, but I find the page blank after it runs through the printer!
Does anyone know which driver is compatible with my Mac Leopard OS?
The printer is a Canon Pixma MP520.
    Please help me!
    Thanks - Zbach

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you have the MP520 connected directly to your Mac via a USB cable, then you should not have to locate a printer driver in the Print Using menu. The printer should be automatically added to your printer list by the Canon driver software.
When this doesn't occur then it can indicate a problem with the Canon software or something is stopping the communication between the Mac and the MP520.
So, assuming by your post this was working previously and all you have done is unplug the printer, move the Mac and then plug the printer back in, has anything changed from the previous setup? Things like, are you using the same USB cable; have you put a USB hub between the printer and the Mac; are you now sharing the printer from a PC or wireless router; are possible causes of your trouble.
Regarding the use of the MP600 driver, you often cannot use a different model of inkjet driver to the model you have. Doing so will cause the result you are getting. But there are times when you do need to use a CUPS-based driver, such as those provided by Gutenprint. One such time is when you have the printer shared by a Windows computer or non-Apple wireless router. (which are included with the OS). If you are using Mac OS X 10.5 (your tag shows Mac OS X 10.6.2) then you will find that version 5.1.3 is included with your OS. The MP520 was not supported by this version but if you download version 5.2.4 (by clicking on Gutenprint above) and install, you will have the MP520 listed as a supported model.
Hope this helps you. Please reply if you still need more help.

  • Printing to Adobe PDF issues - phantom lines and "see through"

    Hi,
I have a book I'm working on in InDesign. To export it for the printing company, I'm using "Print" and selecting the Adobe PDF print driver.
I'm setting the quality to high, images to 305dpi and the transparency flattener to high quality.
However, at various places in the book I have white lines surrounding image elements (generally when one is on top of another). There are also weird issues where a background "box" (with patterned border) shows through images on top (even though I've moved them to their own layer above).
An example of the white lines (the circular "p" white lines):
    http://2tap.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/book/p20.pdf
An example of the background layer "see through" (the dog photos):
    http://2tap.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/book/p64.pdf
I'd greatly appreciate any help - I'm at a loss as to what is going wrong!
    Thank you in advance.
    Russ

These are flattening artifacts. The white lines are called stitching and usually don't affect high-resolution printing. I've never seen the others before, but they are most likely similar.
You can avoid this problem by exporting, rather than printing, to PDF with compatibility set for Acrobat 5 of higher.

  • Choosing the paper type when Printing to Canon S9000

How do I choose the paper-type setting from the print options menu?
The Canon OS X manual speaks about a pull down menu which allows for selection of "quality and media."
I am finding options for printer choice, rendering, layout, print image etc, but nothing that allows me to choice glossy photo paper vs. matte, et al.
I have also downloaded a canon software update without noticeable difference.
Am I missing something obvious here?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I am accessing the print menu and subsequent options, but what I see is a window in which the correct printer is selected then below it is a section for choosing layout, then one for margins, rendering, image adjustments, image options. Everything but quality and media.
If I futz around in I Photo I do see a limited paper choice option from a pull down, so I assume I am still missing something in Aperture itself.
    Thanks.

  • Black line down middle of copies from Auto Document Feeder. Canon mx922.

When printing copies through te Auto Document Feeder (the feeder on top) of my Canon mx922, a black line appears down the middle of the page. How do I clean the ADF/ fix this problem? Thank you.

    Hi ChrisCanon,
The lines on copies that you are experiencing is a result of the scan glass being dirty or scratched.  The scan glass that the printer uses when scanning from the ADF is located to the left of the larger glass area (platen) when you open the cover.  It is the smaller glass strip on the left hand side of the unit.
Spray some glass cleaner on a paper towel and then clean the smaller glass area.  Once cleaned, try scanning from the ADF again.

  • Black lines show up on final print

In CS4 when ever I save to PDF and try to print my document these horizontal black lines show up.  They are most notable around areas with varying transparency.
This happen to anyone else? Any ideas?

Is your print head clean and are you using the right paper? Sounds like it's simply spitting too much ink on the paper and it smears... also reset your printer driver settings, if you used some "Saturation" tweaks. This will increase the amount of ink used and further the issue.

  • Officejet 6310 prints solid black line instead of text.

Good day. My officejet 6310 has started printing a 3/8" solid black line instead of text. I've replaced both color and black cartridges. I've also run align and clean cartridges. Does anyone have helpful suggestions?

This type of result is often due to errors in the HP printer drivers. Several things can be tried. Sometimes, using a tested driver for an older, but compatible printer will do the job. A lot of folks used the use the HPLJ2 driver even with HPLJ3 and 4 systems. Another option is to try to print as a graphic. At this point, I can only suggest playing around with things. A lot of folks like the graphic driver aspect instead.
You might also consider printing to the printer in a PS mode rather than PCL if that option is available.
I am only suggesting things I have seen tried by various folks. I don't have a good explanation.

What is the resolution of the picture that you are trying to print?
Go to Image>resize>image size, read the resolution in px/in, then report back, please.
Also, are you in a position to try printing with another printer in an attempt to narrow this down?

  • Printer problem - black lines

I have purchased Photoshop Elements 6.0 for Mac
I am printing photos on a epson artisan 700 using Photoshop Elements 6.0. I am getting black vertical lines separated by 1 inch across the photo. If I switch from portrait to landscape the photo rotates but not the lines. Cleaning the nozzles made the lines more pronounced. I do not get the lines when I print directly from the printer via the scanner. I also do not get lines when I print with Iphoto (came with my computer) or Canon Imagebrowser (came with camera) or printing documents from Word or Excel. Is Phototshop the problem? I am using Epson ink and paper. I also get the problem with GIMP. Epson tells me they do not support GIMP and that IPhoto uses Epson software.
I had the same problem with Elements 4.0.
Others have had this issue but never posted a solution on a forum. Thoughts?
Operating System: Mac OS X (v10.5.7) on a MacMini 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Printer model / driver version: artisan 700 / 6.36
    Scanner / driver version: artisan 700 / 3.45A

I do not have the answer but I do have the same issue with PSE 6.  I have a Canon i9100 and have changed out the print head twice because it will not print in color from PSE 6.
The information I really want to share is we changed the paper type and it will now print in color but we have lines just like you stated evenly spaced across the photo.  After much though we determined the lines might be caused by the way the printer roller pulled the paper through.  We had photo paper in and we had to lie to the printer and tell it we were using plain paper to get it to print in color.
Fortunately, I have several printers, but the Canon does large format and great color.  Check your paper type settings on the printer and software on the wild chance maybe that could help.  I will post more if we can ever figure out how to fix it.  D

  • Undefined black line vertically on printed page

A narrow undefined line appears about two inches from the left edge of a page (and not totally consistent in how dark it is.  Very faint if no print on the page.   The more text the more noticable it appears.
Additionally -- if there is heavy toner in that area it appears to remove the toner leaving a white but dirty narrow line.   But if it's just regular printed text it does *not* score thru a letter, it just appears as this dirty line in the background.
It's not the cartridge.     Can't see anything inside the printer that looks likely.

Hello sam_k, welcome to the forums
I understand you are noticing a black line. Please let me know some more information and I will certainly look into this for you!
    1. Which Operating System you are running:
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
    2. What is your printers Model Number:
How Do I Find My Model Number?
    3. Do you noticed the black line when you print, scan, copy, or fax?
    4. How is your printer connected to your PC? Ethernet, wireless or USB?
In the meantime, try Resetting the Printer and plug the printer in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
