Printing to Lanier MP C4500/LD445c

Hello,
I'm trying to configure a Macbook Pro to use a Lanier MP C4500/LD445c.
I've downloaded the Mac drivers from Lanier's site for this printer, but the readme included with them doesn't jive with the actual printer setup menus, so it's not clear if installation is proceeding correctly. I am guessing they haven't been updated for Mac OS X 10.4 yet. (The options they tell you to select when installing the printer don't actually exist.)
However, I took my best guesses and tried various procedures, and the end result is the printer IS installed, and the Mac thinks its print jobs are successful. But when we check the printer, it hasn't printed. The error log for the printer does show the print job was received, but indicates we don't have authorization to perform "the function." (I assume "the function" is printing, but I guess it could be just one component of the print job -- the error message doesn't elaborate.)
Now, this printer DOES require a 4-digit authorization code to print color copies (it is located in a large shared office). However, I am only trying to print black and white and greyscale from the Mac, but still get the same error. Yet, I think the only way to rule this out as the problem is to find a way to enter the authorization code for that printer on the Mac... yet I see no place to do so in the printer configuration menus. (On Windows, this printer provides a place to enter the authorization for printing.)
Anyone know how to do this, or have any workaround ideas?
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the feedback. I will try this next time I get a crack at this machine. In response to my usenet post about the same issue, someone asked whether the Mac might be using CMY to perform the grayscale print, triggering the printer's "color print authorization" stuff. Unfortunately I saw no clear-cut way to tell the driver -- black and white only, please. I saw greyscale and b&w "quartz filters" but not sure what the end result of those is.
Anyway, I will give your idea a shot, thanks!

  • Font changes in the last line of paragraph when printing

    InDesign CS3 (5.0.2), Dell P4, 3Ghz, 1gb ram
This is a one page document with about half a page of text and some graphics. When printing to HP Laserjet, everything prints fine. When printing to Lanier 2138 color laser, everything prints fine EXCEPT for the last line of the second paragraph.
The text changes to an unrecognizable font. (The rest of the document uses Trebuchet.) It does happen on the line after a hyphenated word, but we've put the entire word on the last line (eliminating the hyphen) and get the same results.
As I mentioned, the entire page prints perfectly to the HP black and white laserjet. It also prints perfectly to the Lanier 2138 *IF* we create a PDF first and THEN send it to the 2138.
I've checked the knowledgebase and searched this forum, but haven't seen anything related to this issue. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.

    Todd,
That field is the font style field, not a "Paragraph" field. It just happens to be next to the button that changes the control panel to paragraph mode.
Is the file you posted the same one you made the jpeg from, or the one where you changed that field to "regular"? I'm thinking the latter, because the paragraph shows regular when I highlight it. Also, I don't think the font in the jpeg has changed, just it is printing gibberish on that last line.
Try this: File > Export and for type choose Interchange format (.inx). Open that file in InDesign and save again as an InDesign document. See if that prints.
If not, I'd say it's almost certainly the driver.

  • TCP/IP Printing Issues on PC Network

I work in an office and am trying to connect to our networked printer. I am connected to the network via my personal AirPort Express (as are about 5 PCs), but I am the only Mac connected. The PC's connect to the printer via a TCP/IP PORT named RNP750855. I just set up a few PC's printing capabilities by creating a new Port (RNP750855) from within the PC's printer setup menu. Once the port was created, I was able to select the correct printer model (Lanier 5645 PCL 6) from a pull-down list. I can print to this printer from within Virtual PC, but I have not been able to connect directly from Mac Programs. Any advice on how to print via my Mac?

I wonder if this would help if you could find the IP address of the printer.

  • We installed a new router and changed the name of the router. Now my HP C4500 printer won't print.

Our cable company installed a new wireless router and changed the name of the router.  Now my HP C4500 printer won't print from my laptop.
I can't find any ot the Set Up stuff I used initially.
Is there any way to get my printer to work again...wirelessly?

Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.  When you start the installation it will ask what kind of installation you would like.  Choose "Wireless" or "Network" then click "Next".
Eventually it will ask you to plug in a USB cable to the printer temporarily to communicate the new router's info to the printer.  Make sure to not plug in the USB until it asks.

  • Networked Printer Lanier LD 140 not working, how to setup correctly?

Trying to setup a networked printer in OS X 10.9.5. I am setting up the printer by knowing the IP address of the printer on the network. What are the correct options to setup this printer correctly on the network? I have tried various options. The printer either prints a lot of pages, or the document is never sent to the printer. I checked Lanier's website, and installed the printer package with no luck. The website does not have a lot of information regarding setting up the printer to work with OS X.

The "printing lots of pages" symptom nearly always means the printer doesn't have the postscript module installed, and it only recognizes HP-compatible PCL 5e/6. However, Lanier only provides Mac users with a Postscript driver. In other words, you can't use the Lanier-provided driver with your printer.
You can use the OS X built-in generic PCL driver.
When you set it up, use IP > HP Jetdirect protocol, then find the generic PCL driver.

  • Can't print from mac book pro to Ricoh Aficio MP C4500

Hello, today i started working in a new office, that uses a Ricoh Aficio MP C4500 printer and everyone in the office uses windows computers. I have a Mac Book Pro 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, on it, I am running Mac OSX 10.6.6.
When I have tried to print several different file types such as .pdf, .doc, .txt, etc. the printer prints out usually 20 pages that are all coded or blank and nothing similar to what i printed out. I'm guessing this is due to the printer not understanding the language of the data i send to it.I know that i am successfully connecting to the right printer.
I've visited several webpages that discuss how to fix the issue but none of them have worked.
I have tried downloading the mac osx 10.5 drivers from the Ricoh website(they didnt have 10.6) that didn't work and when i printed i still got all blank/coded pages.
Next I went I tried typing the the printer IP address to my browser url... that didn't help.
Next I went to the apple website and downloaded all of their mac osx 10.6 ricoh aficio drivers and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
next i went and downloaded the "ghost script" "footmatic" and "pxlmono" and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
all of the other webpages gave no other advice. Also, when printing each time i tried all of the different protocols, that didnt make a difference.
if you can advise, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like the printer does not have the optional PostScript module installed.
Next I went to the apple website and downloaded all of their mac osx 10.6 ricoh aficio drivers and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
The drivers that are available from the Ricoh web site or are available from Apple only work when the PostScript module is installed.
next i went and downloaded the "ghost script" "footmatic" and "pxlmono" and when i printed i got all blank/coded pages again.
After you downloaded and installed the Ghostscript, Foomatic-RIP, and pxlmono drivers, did you delete your existing Ricoh print queues and create new print queues? Did you choose the driver that had pxlcolor in the title?
If the pxlmono/pxlcolor drivers do not work properly for you, you will need to have the IT person tell you what printer languages the printer can use. Alternatively, you can print a configuration page from the printer keypad that will print a sheet telling you what languages it can use.

I had to have my wireless modem changed and now my 2 laptops will not print. 1). windows 7 64 bit.  2) windows xp, version 2002 service pack 3. The new wireless modem is from ATT u-verse 2wire892. I tried reinstalling on the windows 7 laptop and it tells me can't be installed on that operating system. I had it there before. I ran a Wireless Network Test Report and under the network name it still has the old net name not the new one, how do I change that?
