Printing to Lexmark e120 from a MacBook Black

Hi all,
I used to be able to print using my Lexmark e120 however suddenly it has stopped working. I recently installed the security update and I found numerous, recent posts about the new security update causing problems.
I've tried a variety of solutions but all to no avail.
When I check in "Apple Menu: About This Mac: More Info: Software: Logs: error_log" I see one item with an E before it (I presume this is an error) and it says:
E [11/May/2008:12:34:52 +0100] Unable to bind socket for address ::1:631 - Address already in use.
I noticed in this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6908601&#6908601 post there was a solution that talks about changing a file with reference to port 631 however this doesn't work for me. When I toggle the printer sharing it resets the line that "TheSink" changed.
Can anyone help please!?

Are you printing using Airport in 10.5.2?
If so, this is a known issue that Apple will fix in 10.5.3. For the meantime, here's a solution posted in one of the threads here.
Re: Can't print after 10.5.2 install

Solved
The CUPS author created a small utility that should help with the 10.5.2 upgrade and the Airport problems:
http://ftp.easysw.com/pub/cups/contrib/FixAirportPrinter.dmg
Steps:
1. Add Airport printer
2. Run FixAirportPrinter application
3. Double-click on printer in list (or click on printer and click on
"Fix Printer" button)

  • Print to Imagewriter II from Intel MacBook Pro, Quicken, Leopard OS 10.5

What will it take to print to an Imagewriter II dot-matrix printer from a 2007 MacBook Pro 2.2 (OS 10.5.2, Quicken 2007)?
I'd like to still use my pin-fed checks.
I'm trying to move my accounting and check printing from an old, but still workable, Mac SE/30 system (OS 7, Quicken 7). Ain't those old machines great!!!!!
Will I need a Print Driver?
    How will I connect?
(I have lots of other older Macs around: Tangerine iMac, original PowerBook.
I have a LAN over a Belkin router.
Don't have a LocalTalk option card or a Farallon AppleTalk-over-Ethernet to Appletalk/LocalTalk converter, but maybe could get?)
    Thanks for your input!
    --PSMacintosh

    I'm a bit confused here.
Let's see if I understand correctly.
    Method One:
If I buy and install a USB-to-Serial Adapter and plug it into my MBP's USB port, then I can serial cable directly from the Imagewriter II to the MBP and print.
I have to load the drivers for the USB-to-Serial Adapter.
I have to load the foomatic and GPL Ghostwriter drivers to convert Quicken 2007's postscript print format to Imagewriter's format (appletalk? localtalk?).
I don't have to have an Appletalk/Localtalk card in the Imagewriter.
Method Two (install an Appletalk/Localtalk card in the Imagewriter, then connect somehow (via ethernet) to my network):
I tried to find the card on eBay, but couldn't find it with any search words that I used. What are the right words?
Do I understand correctly that I need:
a AppleTalk/LocalTalk option card that will install inside of the Imagewriter II?
will connect into a slot inside the Imagewriter II?
and will have an ethernet port on it?
Then I'll need to connect an ethernet cable from the card port to either my computer directly (disconnect its ethernet network cable and use its ethernet port) or connect to the network router via ethernet?
(I do have a 34 Express Card slot on the MBP, so maybe I could buy an Express Card that has an ethernet port and connect to the MBP, rather than the network router?)
    ALTERNATIVE-- Method Three:
I do have an Original Powerbook (Family: M3553), running OS 9 and not having Quicken 2007 Mac, which has a Serial Port on it (I'm pretty sure that its printer port interface is serial) and is connected by ethernet to the network router.
So, if I serial cable from the Imagewriter to the Powerbook, turn on the PowerBook to connect to the network, then could I print to the Imagewriter from my MBPro?
I'd have to "see" the printer on my MBP. Or I'd have to drop the print file into the PowerBook's Drop Box and then print it from the PB.
But there's still a problem here because the GPL Ghostwriter from your reference only runs on OS 10s, and not OS 9s.
But maybe that's not a problem because I don't have to install it on the PowerBook with OS 9, but rather on the MBP.
So, if I install the foomatic and GPL Ghostwriter on the MBP, then it converts the print file (from postscript to appletalk??), then I send the print file to the PowerBook and then to the Imagewriter, I guess that should work?

  • Why can't I print a word document from my macbook pro

Since the last software upgrade, I am unable to print from word. I can print from excel and ppt, but not word. I have re-installed the printer drivers after uninstalling them but it still doesn't work.

If you have a macbook with internal or USB external Superdrive, insert disk, and an option appears for burning files.
Otherwise drop the movie into a folder and click on the settings button of the folder and choose "burn .......to disk"

  • Deskjet 5440 stopped printing wirelessly from my MacBook Pro after upgrading to OS 10.8

My home printer is connected by cable to a desktop Mac (Power Mac G5).  I have always printed wirelessly to it from my MacBook Pro laptop through our home wireless network.  However, just recently I upgraded the operating system on my laptop to 10.8.2.  At the same time, I upgraded the HP driver software (from HP) that is supposed to allow the 5440 to work with the new OS.  Since then, I can print from my laptop if it is connected by cable to the printer, but not wirelessly.  When I attempt to print wirelessly, get a message that says the printer is not connected.

So you are using Printer Sharing on the PowerMac?  If so, on the PowerMac, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax and delete the printer with the '-' sign at the bottom of the printer list.  Re-add it with the '+' sign.
Make sure that Printer Sharing is checked and that in System Preferences > Sharing that Printer Sharing is also checked there.
Now, on the MacBook Pro, go to System Preferences > Print & Scan and click the '+' sign to add the printer.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How can I choose my printer's rear tray on my MacBook?

    Hello everyone,
I have something strange going on on my MacBook when it comes to printing...
I would love to be able to print address labels, photos etc. on actual labels and photo paper using the rear tray of my printer (Canon MG5150). The weird thing is that I cannot for the life of me find the option to choose the rear tray. I have expanded the print dialogue to show all possible options, but there's absolutely no way to choose my printer's paper source. So I'm stuck with the standard cassette, which I do not dare use for anything thicker than normal printing/copying paper. Everything else printer-wise works fine from the MacBook, I just can't select the paper source (regardless which programme I'm working in on the MacBook).
Something else I've tried is downloading the latest printer driver from Canon. No joy there though, doesn't make a blind bit of difference. I've also tried opening programmes using Rosetta just in case, but that doesn't seem to change anything either.
My iMac never presented me with this problem; it always let me print from whichever paper source I wanted (using the same Canon printer). Some background info: my MacBook has Mac OS 10.6.8 on it, my iMac Mac OS 10.4. Could it have something to do with the operating system? They are both Intel, aren't they, so why would the options be there on one Mac, but not the other?
So, where could my menu options have disappeared to?? Have Apple changed their printing dialogues for the worse or something? It seems such a shame I can't use my MacBook to its full potential and have to resort to roundabout ways of being able to do what I want. I'm hoping it's something really obvious, and that someone can help me.
    Thanks for any advice!
    Kind regards,
    Esther

    Hello-
You can restore network defaults on the printer.
Press the Setup icon. Then go to Network Menu, scroll down to "restore network defaults".
This should clear any "Admin" settings that were set.
Then you can turn radio on and run the wireless wizard to get back on network.
    I hope this helps.
Also, remember a click on the Kudos star to the left is a quick "Thanks" for a helpful post.

    I appreciate your input !

  • MacBook Black: Selling - Leopard license question

    Greetings,
I'm interested in selling my MacBook Black. The only lingering question I'd like some advise on is what exactly to do with the Leopard license that will come with my new MacBook... I'll explain.
My current MacBook Black came with 10.4.x, and when Leopard came out I purchased a family pack (5 seats) to install on my Mac Pro (quad core) and MacBook Black. Now that I'm looking to sell the MacBook Black I'd like to ship it with Leopard installed... here's what I thought about doing.
While holding on to the MacBook Black, purchase a new MacBook. Wipe the new MacBook and do a clean install from my family pack. Transfer files from the MacBook Black to the new MacBook, verify everything is happy, make a backup of my new MacBook. Wipe my old MacBook Black and do a clean install of the Leopard license that came with my new MacBook, and ship this original disk along with all related contents to the purchaser.
My only concern is that if the family pack of Leopard keeps track of installs... would this read 3/5 installations when at this point it should only be 2/5? Also I'm not 100% certain if it matters using an older Leopard install disk on the new machine and the newer Leopard install disk on the old machine.
I'm all about doing this in a professional manner, and initially it doesn't seem like I'd need to purchase yet another Leopard license for the purchaser because one already comes with my new MacBook.
Any advise would be much appreciated

That's correct. You cannot install your copy of Leopard from the new computer onto the one your will sell. That violates the license agreement. Your Family Pak does not extend to the original discs that come with the new computer. If you were to install Leopard in that way then you would be legally obliged to provide the original discs from your new computer to the person who buys the old one. You do not want to do that for two reasons: 1) the discs contain your pre-bundled software, Windows Boot Camp drivers installer, and the Apple Hardware Test suite; 2) they are OEM discs and will only work on your new computer.
True, the computer will not have Leopard installed on it. If the new owner wants Leopard, then they can purchase their own legal copy or you can purchase a single-license copy of Leopard to provide with the computer when you sell it.
    Legally these are your alternatives.

  • Printing From My Macbook to My WinXp Printer

I just bought a brand new Black Macbook for myself (which I love!) but I have seem to run into a little issue with Network Printing.
I have a Hp PSC1350 All-In-One on my Hp Pavilion desktop downstairs and I would like to be able to print from my Macbook to that printer.
Can someone please provide me with instructions with network printing on a mac and how to set it up? Thanks!
    - Barret

First - driver. The driver provided by HP was written to support direct USB printing ONLY. If your model is compatible with the PSC 1300 or 1310, you can use the hpijs + ghostscript driver set:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx/hpijs
Next - setup. Follow this guide:

  • Trouble printing from a MacBook to a network printer wirelessly

I have a Samsung printer connected to a Windows 7 machine and am attempting to print from a MacBook. I try the usual AdvancedWindows+SMB-addressShare-name technique. When I go to print, the MB asks for My Username and password for the W7 box. Upon entering the information, I receive an NTSTATUS_CONNECTIONREFUSED message and no printing takes place.
Curiously, a Mac mini (10.5.8 also) which is connected to the network by wire (the MB is connected wirelessly) prints just fine to the same printer using the same configuration.
Does Anyone have any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue? Can Anyone point Me in the direction of documentation which could help?
    Thanks in advance.

I figured out the answer using this excellent Web page: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3000.html.
The problem was that when I used the "Wizard" on the PC to install the shared printer, it picked the Deskjet driver by default. But the iMac needs to get the printer data in Postscript, which its own driver then translates into Deskjet speak. So after creating the printer on the Thinkpad I had to go into its Properties and change to the Apple Color Laserwriter driver.

  • I have a HP Laserjet P1102w printer hooked up to the USB port of my Airport Extreme. I'm able to print to the printer wirelessly from my MacBook Pro. My iPad (2nd gen) can't find the printer. What do I need to do?

My iPad is on the same network as the Airport Extreme. The HP printer is on the list of Airprint printers but I'm not using it as a wireless printer, per se, as it's hooked up to the USB port on the Airport Extreme.
I installed the HP ePrint app on my iPad. Unfortunately, the app could not find the printer either.
As mentioned earlier, I'm able to print wirelessly to the HP printer via my MacBook Pro.

    ApplePearApple wrote:
Since I'm able to print to the HP printer from my MacBook Pro using this configuration, shouldn't I be able to print to the printer from my iPad, especially when all of the devices are on/using the same network?
Not necessarily. AirPrint uses a protocol separate from the communication protocol used for the Extreme's USB port. The HP printer may disable AirPrint when its USB port connected to a valid device, which is my reason for recommending you use it wirelessly.
    From AirPrint Basics:
AirPrint printers connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported.
AirPrint printers connected by Ethernet are supported in OS X.
You may get more competent assistance from HP. See this HP support forum topic: iPhone & iPad can't Airprint to p1102w LaserJet
HP's Mac support has always been miserable though. I have been much happier since I abandoned HP and started buying Brother printers. They just work.

This function is related to the printer driver and the printer you use. If you do not give details, nobody can suggest a solution. Usually, the correct driver solves the issue.

  • Printing to my Windows Networked Printer from my MacBook

Let me apologize upfront, I'm new the world of Apple, just coming over from the PC world and so these will surely be stupid questions.
I just got a new MacBook (which I LOVE!!!)
I have a Desktop PC running XP
I have an HP OfficeJet G85 connected by USB to that desktop PC
    I have a wireless netgear 802.11b/g router
WHAT I WANT TO DO: I want to print wirelessly from my MacBook to the HP OfficeJet G85 (as I have been able to do with several PC notebook computers...so I know everything is configured right on that end of things). Specifically, I want to be able to take advantage of the double-sided printing duplexer when printing wirelessly from my MacBook.
    WHAT I CAN DO:
-I've been able to plug the printer in via USB to the MacBook and install it. (but that's not wireless)
-I've been able to print wirelessly using CUPS and a SAMBA server, which I DO NOT understand but found some website that told me how to set it up. BUT when using New DeskJet Series CUPS v1.1, if I attempt to do double-sided printing, it causes an error on my printer that halts printing and requires it to be restarted; plus, this give me pretty crummy quality printing.
    WHAT I CANNOT DO:
-Locate the darn correct print driver file on my MacBook (I know it's there because I installed it as part of the all-in-one software I downloaded from HP and because I was able to install the printer via USB; but when I look at the list of printer drivers, my printer is never on that list AND because I don't know what the driver's name or file extension or location would be on a Mac, I can't hunt it down myself, eventhough the Mac is willing to let me try to).
-In leu of using HP's specific G85 print driver (which I feel I should be able to do...you'd think their setup assistant software would help, but it doesn't let you navigate through your network to direct it to your printer...if its scan doesn't see it, then it's no help), based on what I've read, my other options are:
--Buy an HP JetExpress Print Server (too expensive) or Airport Express (which probably won't support this printer or help my situation...am I correct about this???)
--Use this hpijs ppd thing(from http://openprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-OfficeJetG85)...assuming all of my conclusions and assumptions above are correct, this is what I need to do...the only thing is I don't understand what it is or what I'm supposed to do with it. After I download the PPD, do I need to download or run something else that uses this PPD file? Am I supposed to put it in a particular folder? I've downloaded the HP-OfficeJet_G85-hpijs.ppd file to my Mac's desktop...what do I do now?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer!
    Jeff

    Jeffry,
Have you had any luck? I purchased a macbook and apple care can't help me figuire it out. My situation is pretty close to yours and I've been following your post but looks like no help. Please send me an e-mail if you have figuired how to print over your network.
    Thanks

  • How do you setup a canon mp620 to print from a Macbook Pro?

How can i print from my MacBook Pro with a canon mp620 printer? I have the printer setup with a PC via USB and want to add the MacBook as a new computer and print wirelessly. I have tried the installation cd and updated drivers from canon website but it still wont work.

I have managed to get my working. Firstly, I googled the CUPS drivers for the printer and then downloaded those from canons website. I then went to print and scan in system preferences and noticed that the printer had appeared there. I believe it was those drivers that made the difference but i was fiddling for hours before that so i cant be 100% sure how i got it to work.

I want my clients to have a receipt of the services that they have paid for, can anyone HELP ME PLEASE?

Well...I went to the modem (Westell, WireSpeed), found the NAT settings, once again, I'm WAY over my head, I am assuming this is a TCP connection (as opposed to a UDP) and per Lorex my mobile devices will use port 1025.  So I gave it a "global port range" of 1-10 and I indicated that the "base host port" was 80, 1025, & 9000 (ports 1,2,3).  When I selected the 'enable' it asked for a "host devise" my choices are my IPhone, IMac and the IP address for the dvr, so I choose the dvr.  I still cannot connect and canyouseeme still can NOT find these open ports.  This is taking up my whole day! I don't know how people figure this stuff out.
