Printing to multiple bins with Brother Laser

I struggled mightily to find a way to print from iPads to the different paper bins of my Brother MFC-8910.  I tried MANY options and finally got it to work, so I wanted to share what I did.
#1.  The problem.  I have to be able to print from iPads to:
regular paper on laserjet
label paper
watermarked paper
color inkjet
I did not want to buy 4 printers for this.  I wanted to use printers with multiple paper bins.
Thought that would be easy.  It was not.
The Brother Laser i bought, an MFC8910, was a total pain.  Airprint will go to a default tray on the printer, but you can't really make it so you can easily choose between them.
#2 Solutions:
A. CUPS printing.  Used CUPS to setup virtual printers.  This let me create virtual printers with different default paper trays.  This worked awesome for my iMacs, but still didnt' address the iPad printing problem
B.  Printopia. Tried using this.  This worked, I could now see my virtual printers with the iPads.  But it didn't work because for some reason printing through Printopia causes a subtle change in the page layout and none my labels lined up.  So, it ended up not working after all.
C.  Airprint Activator.  Tried using this, also worked as above, but still had alignment troubles when printing from iPads.  Weird.
D.   Brother BR-Script.  I think this was the secret.  If I setup the CUPS server using the BR-Script drivers instead of the standard CUPS drivers, my alighnment problems went away.
So what I have now is a ML Server (although this could be any computer) that has a user on it called Print Server that stays logged in.  It has all the printers setup using CUPS, BR-Script Drivers, and Virtual printers setup for all the different bins I want.  It uses airprint activator to broadcast them for my iPads.  Working really well now.

  • Help with Brother Laser Print/Fax

My printer is mac compatible. I just got the new airport extreme and would like to use my brother laser print/fax via usb. it's not working and on top of it my print utilities application is missing. any advice? thx

Just in case you missed it - double check to make sure your Brother does not have an ethernet (CAT5) jack on the back.
I have 4 Brother printers or AIO units, and they all have that connection, and are all Bonjour compatible. Even my cheapie $99 AIO color inkjet.
If you do have the jack, just plug in to the AEBS with an ethernet cable, and you may even find that it supports "scan or fax over network", in addition to being able to do all the other advanced functions.

  • Printing problem in Mavericks with Brother MFC-6800

I installed Mavericks, then downloaded the Brother MFC-6800 printer and scanner drivers, then used Software Update. I continually get a message that the printer is not connected. When you pull out the USB cable the driver shows no connection but when you plug the USB cable back in it still says not connected. If you start both the printer and computer you can get one successful print but after that you can't print because it says the printer is not connected. Every time I restart there is a second Brother printer driver installed.
The scanning software from Brother hangs when trying to scan. Image Capture doesn't even see the Brother scanner.
It seems to me Brother needs to release a new driver.
    Does anyone know anything else?

I'm having trouble printing out a test page to a remote Brother DCP 7040 printer, whose driver isn't readily available in the repositories or AUR. Whenever I try to print the test page (from the system-config-printer tool), cups gives me the error:

Since I'm trying to connect to a remote printer on a Windows computer via samba, the problem might also lay within that. I've noticed that whenever I try to add the printer from the system-config-printer dialog  and try the SAMBA option, sometimes my wireless adapter shuts down altogether, forcing me to restart, but that may be irrelevant.
Can anyone help me find out what's wrong? I may be too much of a novice to understand what's going on.

Is it 32 or 64-bit. If it is 64-bit, the print driver for AA7 does not work on that system. You can install AA7 except for the printer for a 64-bit system. In that case, you will have to install another PS printer (like the HP 4500 PS) with the port as File:. I also suggest you change the name to be the Adobe PDF printer that you are substituting for. You then print to file and open the file in Distiller to complete the PDF creation (watched folders are also possible from Distiller to automate the process somewhat). You have to provide a folder as well as the file name when you print, such as "C:\adobeapps\test.ps." Then run test.ps through Distiller. You will have to follow the extra steps to create PDFs with AA7.

  • TS1253 Brother laser printer not responding

My old Airport Extreme Base Station (the white flying saucer one) was acting flakey and I replaced it with a new Airport Extreme Base Station. I set up the new base station and hooked up a Brother HL-5070N laser printer to the base station with Ethernet and an Epson 3800 with USB. I deleted all the printers and replaced them with the Brother and Epson printers.
The problem is that the Brother printer doesn't respond when I print to it. Sometimes it will print when I cycle the power off and then back on.
I have had virtually no problems with either printer in the past. They just worked and worked.
I am running Lion 10.7.3 and have downloaded the latest printer driver from the Brother site. The driver is the CUPS version 4.10 (I think).
I have restarted the computer (nearly new MacBook Pro) several times with no success in curing the problem.
A symptom with the new AEBS is that the status LED is flashing amber which is supposed to indicate that there is a problem. The Airport Utility tells me that there is a problem with the internet connection, but I am able to access the internet.
I would be grateful for any help.
    Thanks.

    HACKINTOSH,
Thanks for checking in on my printer problem.
I managed to get the laser printer to work by a lot of fiddling. I had to reset the printer to it's factory defalut setting several times. Also, the AEBS flashing amber light magically changed to solid green -- I don't quite know why.
I think the Brother laser printer is working now. I hope it stays that way.

  • Cheap laser printer guaranteed to work with extreme?

    Hello,
Anyone found a cheap, reliable (doesn't have to be high-quality or fast) laser printer that works well with the extreme? I'm interested in a printer that is very easy to install (ideally, drivers already in leopard).
    thanks,
    Joe
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I use a Brother DN-5250 and it works fine. It's not the best constructed thing on the planet, but Bonjour finds it and was about $200. Cartridges are on the order of $70.

  • Printing multiple PR with different line items in smartform

    Hello all,
I have an requirement to print multiple PR with different line items on different pages.
So,suppose two PR are there,PR1 and PR2 with n no of line items, then i should get each PR on different page with its line items.
Note: One loop processing is already there on line items.
    Best Regards,
    Anurodh

    Hi,
Fetch all the PRs and its corresponding items into 2 different table. Then Loop at the internal whihc contains the PRs and  call the 2nd internal table for its items and call the FM for smartforms and pass them.
    LOOP AT it_PR.
fetch all the items into it_PR_item
      Call Function Fnam
      Passign the it_PR_item
    ENDLOOP.

  • Multiple bins in one section in storage type with 'C' open storage strategy

    Experts,
I am doing random storage replenishment process for a Low rack location. The replenishment gets triggered from high rack to low rack.
The low rack storage type is defined as next empty bin as putaway strategy and the storage type contains multiple bins in each section.
There is process change and I want to place multiple SUs in one bin , I want to use the putaway strategy as 'C' open storage
and mixed storage allowed with SUT check and SU management active . It is working fine as expected in terms of triggering replenishment
and storing multiple SUs in 1 bin.My concern is that as a rule open storage should contain only one storage bin for section. But in my design , each section contains
multiple storage bins. Does is really hurt in any form? What are consequences? Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
You are right. Normally it does not hurt, but what you are doing with the new process change contradicts your original design. Can you explain why you had storage sections in the area in the original design? Did you segregate SKU's by product families/fast movers etc....and now you dont have that requirement anymore or your SKU management has changed?

  • How to get Network Printing to work with Brother!!

So i have my BROTHER DCP-7020 printer connected to my Windows machine and i've been sharing the printer on the network with my old iMac 24' which prints perfectly. Now i have the 27' imac and i have no idea why it won't do printing via network, plugging in USB works fine, i've installed the driver but it doesn't look like it did anything. It just worked on my 24' without any hassle, it gets detected in the "Printer Settings" automatically and i dont recall doing anything to get it to work before.
Can anyone give me some tips of why it won't print and what I need to do in order to get network printing to work on my new Mac?
By the way BOTH MACHINE runs SNOW LEOPARD.
    Thanks in advance.

    mamorse,
Thanks for the additional info. Lets try downloading and running the Print and Scan doctor located here. It can fix a lot on its own but if not it will give us a better idea of what is going on. The weak signal is not likely the culprit (as it has been working for a good while) but we can try altering that if other steps fail.

  • IMac crashes when I print to Brother laser, but not HP inkjet

I have an old Brother laser printer that still works fine. When I print to it from my iMac or from any of several iPads, the iMac crashes (turns off). Remarkably, the printing finishes anyway. I also have an HP Photosmart and it works fine from any device. This may have started happening after I installed Mavericks, but I ignored it for a while because I had an alternative and was usually in a hurry. I get no error, just a beep and the iMac goes dead.

Moved to Desktop board for better exposure.

  • Brother laser printer won't scan

Running 10.7.5 on an iMac. Purchased a Brother MFC-9340CDW yesterday. I can print from the iMac, also able to print and scan from iPhone, iPad and eMachines laptop. Unable to scan from the iMac or to the iMac from the Brother. Spoke with Brother tech support and confirmed that IP addresses were right, drivers were up to date and all lines of communication appeared open but still unable to scan. So I reset the network card on the Brother and connected to the iMac via an ethernet cord but still unable to scan. The Brother has a 14 day return policy. Any help making things work is appreciated.

Did you find a solution to your problem?
I'm interested in buying one of these printers.
