Printing to pdf on Mac...

What is the work around for printing to pdf on a Mac when you what to utilize print options to impose a file.  ie:  I recently needed to create a saddlestitch booklet from a document.  In the past I would just print to pdf and change scaling options to booklet and either print to Adobe PDF or use the Mac pdf pulldown and bing I was done.  I am running Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 and working on intel iMac running OS 10.6.8.

Hi Bob, I just tried your suggestion, but the interactive PDF is in spreads by default, no way to change the setting. When I choose to view by single page in Acrobat, it displays a single spread.
When I choose to view by spreads, it displays 4 pages, two spreads. That's the topic of this whole discussion, I believe. I do own CS 6 at home, however my employer supplied me with CS 5.5. And I have very little, if any, influence on purchasing.
So, I have no good way to make an interactive PDF (with differing recto/verso headers and footers), that is accessible and shows the correct header/footer. It's either single pages (with one header/footer), or recto/verso headers/footers but PDF only as a spread, as well as I can tell.
Unless you know something else I can do...
Best, Marilyn

  • Printing to PDF on Mac system

Using Adobe 8 on a Mac system and print to Adobe does not work; the "PDF" button is there; however, when selecting that it does not "remove" the comments from the document.  Basically, we make internal comments on our documents, which are saved, and then we print to PDF to scrub those comments (resaving the document to another location) so the document can then be filed in a court system (without the comments).

Thank you for your reply - This is the same set up as I was using with CS6, which was printing fine...
It is only since I have updated to CC that the problem has started...
I have always let the programs manage the colour using my calibrations or the standard Epson calibrations.
I have just connected my other computer with exactly the same settings as the first one and that is printing fine???
    Somewhere a driver has corrupted.

  • How to batch print multiple PDFs in Mac OS X?

Does anyone know of any new software that allows one to batch print multiple PDF files with a print dialogue for the first file, followed by dialogue-less printing for the rest?
I work for an architect's firm and we often find ourselves printing dozens of A1 PDFs, going through the print dialogue window for each file.
We used to be able to batch print when Preview.app could open multiple PDFs in one window; it lost this capability in a regression when it gained bookmarks and we've been living in batch print stone age ever since.
(A desktop printer doesn't work by the way)

Open one of the PDFs in Preview then drag the rest of the files into the sidebar. Print the resulting file. If you don't want to save it as a single PDF just select 'Don't Save' when you exit.
Wow! I've been asking this question repeatedly for a couple of years now and you're the first person to mention this. Thanks a lot. There will be some happy campers in our office, I tell ya.
I missed it because all the large PDFs we create include a table of contents and you have to switch to thumbnail view before you can drag and drop additional PDFs.
With the type of files we produce It takes 30 seconds or so to add 8 files together, so it's not ideal but it's a lot faster and more convenient than Acrobat Pro or printing each file separately.
Another option is to open the printer window and drag all the files into it. They will print automatically with no dialog box.
This doesn't work because you can't choose the size of paper you want to print to.
Thanks again, your first post too.

  • When I print to pdf on Mac, the first page comes out fine but all the rest are magnified and shifted up and right

I click File>Print. Whether I open pdf in Preview, save to pdf, or just print, I get this error. The first page is fine, but all the rest are shifted up and to the right and magnified.
I've never been able to print out a multi-page document on Firefox with my new computer. I can copy/paste the address to Safari (gross) and it prints just fine, either to pdf or to a hard copy.
Save me from having to use Safari!

Making sure the fonts were embedded helped some, but it's still hit and miss. Sometimes I'm still missing pieces. One workaround I have found that works is just print one page without security to PDF, and then go back and replace the bad page(s) with them. So it will print properly, just not all the time. I have a copy of a word page and then what acrobat did to it. I just need to figure out how to post it here.

  • I can't print to PDF but adobe seems to be loaded - what should I do? (on a mac...)

I bought the adobe suites package last summer.  My photoshop, illustrator, indesign seem to be loaded ok.  I cannot though print to PDF even though acrobat reader seems to be loaded.  What should I do?

    Hi jofrisch,
You cannot print to PDF on Mac as Adobe PDF printer is not available.
You can save the file as Adobe pdf though.

  • Can't Print to PDF

I don't understand why I can't print to pdf from any Adobe project, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Reader, etc.

I'm sorry, I didn't clarify in my original post that I was on a Mac. Thank you for your suggestion CF McBlob, but from InDesign, Acrobat Pro and Reader, I tried to print to pdf (which all 3 of them display the option to do so), but a message appears saying that printing to pdf isn't supported in print dialog. I don't have any issues with exporting and saving as a pdf.
I needed to print to booklet as a pdf with the pages in correct page imposition. The file needed to be emailed to other stakeholders within the company to print as they needed.
Adobe used support printing to pdf on Macs:
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/feature-details/acrobatpro/p dfs/creating-pdf-files-using-the-print-command-mac.pdf
Upon talking with support, I learned that Adobe no longer supports the print of pdf driver for the Mac. They discontinued the driver a couple of years back. This is because Apple's Preview popularity. However, I still needed the booklet option for print to pdf which Preview doesn't have.
Create Booklet solves this problem. You can open your pdf in Preview and select Create Booklet from the PDF dropdown list.
    Create Booklet:

Hope this helps those struggling with the same issue as I did.

  • Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed

We are planning to Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed. I have tried using the AIR appliaction and it worked, But our requirement is NO INSTALL to the user machine for the silent printing. It is just from web page and silent printing to the default printer to the desktop/Laptop. Can anyone share your thoughts and experience with us. It will be very helpful..
For AIR : I tried the thread Re: AIR and PDF showing/silent printing

    Hey CodeMonkey & Ross,
Did you either of you ever find a solution? I'm stuck too, it seems I can get remote printing on all these PDFs to work but it just prints a blank page since I've been using Javascript in the browser, not Adobe's (they are Engineering drawings that I do not have permission to edit so I can't just insert code into them but I need to make work instructions). I've been scouring the internet for hours now, it seems that this thread is the only relevant/useful one at this point. No one else was trying to achieve this for similar reasons to mine.
    Thanks guys,
    Lox

  • Why can't I print a pdf from my mac pro to my printer?

why can't I print a pdf from my mac pro to my printer?

Don't know! You'll have to give us more details of what's happening when you try. Can you print other documents OK? When you try to print, does the printer icon appear in the dock - click on it and see if there are any printer messages.

I am unable to print a pdf from a website through Adobe Reader on my mac. It keeps telling me that no pages have been selected - I have uploaded the latest version of Adobe with no luck and have never had this issue before !

    Hi bengaunt ,
Thank you for posting on the Adobe forums, you can try printing as an image.
Open the file>Print>advanced>check the box "print as an image" OK

  • Can no longer print directly from html nor to a pdf. Mac OX 10.7.4

For several weeks now whenever I try to print a document directly from Internet (html) the printer preview window doesn't show the document. I only get a black screen. I tried printing anyway thinking that there could be a problem with the preview settings of the printer but all I get is a black page. I can also not printo to PDF using the "save us" dialog. I've check all the printer' settings (including installing and desinstalling it) but everything is OK. It happens regardless of the browser (Safari or Firefox). Downloading the document to my computer also doesn't solve the problem: it downloads but when I attempt to open the document an error messsage pops-up saying that the file is corrupted and can not be opened.
I have no problem at all when I try to print any kind of document saved on my computer: The preview on the printer dialog shows the actual document. The result is the desired one (the printed doc) and I can also print to PDF by clicking the "PDF" button on the printer's dialog screen. So far the only provisional solution I have found is to take a screen-shot and then print it. The problem comes when you have to scroll down a document you want to print. In this case the screen-shot is useless.
    Details:
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Acrobat 10.1.4
    Printer: HP Officejet all-in-one 7310 (5C2DCA)
Using wifi to connect to printer
Thank you in advance for your help!

This preview window - is it the one in Acrobat 10.1.4 when you choose to print a PDF (or a PDF made from an HTML)? If it's a preview in a browser, this seems like maybe a Mac OS problem; Acrobat doesn't make that preview.

  • Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?

Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?
I need this functionality. Adobe PDF doesn't appear in the printer list as it did on my windows laptop. I need to be able to print to the PDF "size" of 8.5 by 11 to shrink files down for e-mail. My workflow usually goes like this:  I import all the pictures or create a PDF from multiple files (pictures), I then put them in order  and then print to PDF, two pictures to a page. I can take a 50MB file down to a 1MB file this way. Makes it easy to view on smartphones and the like.
Is this functionality still broken in Acrobat 11? Did I just waste my money? This was the only reason I bought the latest version - It wouldn't work on 9 Pro either.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Thanks Tony. That is exactly the functionality I am not getting from the current product on Mac.
You can get a much better looking result that takes up way less space and opens faster for the end user by printing a PDF as a PDF and controlling the size of the PDF image. I can take - for instance, 6 or 7  10MP pictures and create a PDF out of them. The PDF will be 25MB or so. I can print that as a PDF which will allow me to put two pictures per page  - and that file will be about 1 MB. No crappy looking images, just much smaller size and multiple images per page.
It's a workflow I have used for years on PC.  Everyone keeps saying just save it as a PDF using the Mac print "save as PDF" functionality but that doesn't accomplish the same thing and you can not control how many pages to print on to each new page of your PDF.
I find it misleading that I saw a web page on Adobe's site that shows you can print as a PDF and it says you can print as a PDF on Mac and that is NOT the case.  Print to PDF Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac | Adobe Acrobat XI Infuriating.
I have tried to optimize a PDF with 6 or 7 images and it just doesn't do the same thing. It wont reduce the size as much as I need, cuts it in half - but not down to a small fraction for being an e-mail attachment. I'm using XI Pro. Researched this for about 3 hours and it is not functionality that can be used on a Mac.
I even tried printing as a PDF in Parallels on XP with another licensed version of Acrobat Pro and it still wont let you. You would have to probably dual boot your machine to get the functionality by running windows flat out on the Mac with a separate Licensed copy of the software.
It amazes me that Adobe can't figure this out or make amends with Apple to get the functionality back into Acrobat.

  • "Print to PDF" w/ Acrobat Pro 8 on Mac 10.6

    I have the following:
MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.3
    Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional
Customer support told me to post my question here, so this is what I am doing.
I have a 800+ page pdf file open in Acrobat 8 Pro.  I want to "print" several non-consecutive pages from that file to another pdf file.  So, for example, when want to print pages 170, 171-175, 186-197, I select file>print, then type in these selected pages.  Then I change the printer selector to "Adobe PDF 8"  (Note that this name has an exclamation point icon in front of it, which to me is a red flag).  When I hit "print" to create the new pdf, the job is sent to my printer where it sits as paused.  I can't get it to "print to pdf".
I tried printing to pdf from the web but ran into the same problem.
I have used Acrobat on Windows for years and I know that I should be able to do what I am trying to do.  Not sure why I can't do it.  Read a post about Snow Leopard blocking the pdf printer, but not sure if that is correct.  If it is correct, there has to be some work-around that will allow me to efficiently do what I want to do.  Or is there something known that Mac support can do to help me?
This is such a basic function of Acrobat I can't believe that there is not some way to do it.  But if there is not some way to do it, it will be VERY disappointing.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

    Will this help you:

  • Printing/creating PDF problems with Mac OS 10.6.4 and word v.X

In my job at university I use Word 2003 (version 10) in my new iMac. Since I updated to MacOS 10.6.4 I have problems with the printing menu. That means that I can not print or convert to PDF or even generate a preview. When trying to print or obtain a preview, word freezes and I have to force quit. When trying to generate a pdf file it does, but the generated file is unreadable (it says is damaged) and word freezes again. I have played with the preferences, change user and it didn't help. I checked the Font Book and indeed they were many duplicated fonts. I sorted them out, but the problem persists. With very short files it works, but with longer ones word invariably crashes when trying to print or make a pdf. I took one long .doc file and I copied into my laptop (MacBook pro, 2008) that was running 10.6.3. I printed it and converted to pdf; no problems at all. Then, for the sake of knowledge, I updated the system to 10.4.6 and then I couldn't print or create a pdf with the very same file, so it seems that certainly the update is reponsible. So now I know cause but I can not print from any of my computers. To me convert to pdf is an important functionality so I would appreciate any help. I have some ideas: reinstall Office 2003? reinstall 10.6 from the disk (and not update)? use Time Machine to restore the system as it was before the update?
I didn't detect problems in Office 2004, or any other programs in my macs. Unfortunately, I need Office 2003 for compatibility with some other software. Thanks in advance!

I updated my MBP to 10.6.4 last night and today I was printing fine from Word 2008 (v12.2.5). I haven't used Office vX since Tiger so I cannot comment on its stability with the latest update. But I suggest that if you haven't done so already, try opening Disk Utility and running Repair Disk Permissions on the 10.6.4 partition. Once this has completed I also suggest that you reset the printing system, restart your Mac and then add your printer queues again.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
