Printing to photosmart 7550 on airpot express

I can't set up my printer to print using the airport express. It is recognized as 'bonjour' printer but cannot be set up as it won't find the drivers when connected to airport. I gather hp's drivers 2.5.6 only work for usb printing. I've tried the hpijls driver from the sourceforge website but they didn't work on usb or airport.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Do I need to set any sharing/firewall preferences?

Try these generic steps one at a time:
Delete and re-ADD the printer(s) in Printer Setup.
Repair permissions (Disk Utility).
Delete Print Prefs - search for (File>Find) files that start with com.apple.print and delete them all and reboot.
Reset Printing System (new in Tiger) - In Printer Setup, click this menu item found just above Quit Printer Setup.
If there is a downloadable Combination Updater from Apple, use it to re-Update OS X.
Try Printer Setup Repair from www.fixamac.net.
Use a Disk Utility like Disk Warrior to repair the HD.
(Final desperation step - reinstall OS X using the Archive & Install option in the installer.)
Let us know what works.

I have attempted all the available features on the HP site for this printer but nothing works. It seem HP don't support this printer any more. Does this mean i have to dispose of it?

The Deskjet 5550 or Deskjet 6540 drivers should be compatible with the Photosmart 7550.

HP Photosmart 7550 printer with Leopard

I'd just like to know if there is anyone who is able to use an HP Photosmart 7550 printer with Leopard.
I can print, but the printing is all garbled.

Print Driver from System Preferences-> Print & Fax shows HP PhotoSmart 7550 - CUPS+GutenPrint 5.1.3 . There is another version called HP PhotoSmart 7550 - GutenPrint 5.1.3 .
The same "drivers" show up under http://localhost:631 which tells me that my system is only finding the CUPS driver (I think its a PPD or Postscript Printer Definition file that works with 1 driver for all printer types).
I downloaded the HP drivers on 11/2/2007 - that file is called gutenprint05.1.3.U.dmg (Jun 19 2007). I ran Install Gutenprint 5.1.3.mkpg found on the disk image. This installed the HP PhotoSmart 7550 - CUPS + GutenPrint 5.1.3 drivers.
I also have an HP Printer Selector program from 11/2/2007. If I click the "select" button on this program, it brings me to a screen called HP Printer Utility. At the bottom of the screen it appears to specify a non-cups driver: PhotoSmart/AiO connectivity: photosmart 7550, SN:CNxxxxxx. I can print a test and a diagnostic page from this utility window. The printing is absolutely perfect from this window.
So to me it appears that there is an old photosmart driver seen from the HP Printer Selector program and there are CUPS drivers. yet System Prefs can't find this driver. Or am I wrong.....

Airpot express help needed to enable wireless printing.

Hello and thanks to everyone who post on this fourm, I have read and learned alot over the past year. When I bought my Macbook last December It cam with an airport express router. At that time I has a mediocre isp and we were not able to trouble shoot the airport express so I gave up on trying to get it to work. Recently I got DSL and I am using my same linksys. I tried to hook up my airport ex tonight and again just screwed my entire internet up. I really think I will just continue to use my linksys for the net, but is there a way to run my printer downstairs through my airpot express but not use it for the web. Dont get me wrong Im sure they are good but I have spent between 10 to 15 hours reading and trying only to keep going back to linksys.

The driver provided by HP doesn't work for network printing, because it bypasses the CUPS system. The only comm protocol you get is what was written into the driver - USB. Install the hpijs and ESP ghostscript driver set from:

Second issue - the windows setup software enters the server queue name during setup, but we don't have that software on OS X. You need to find the queue name in the print server docs, then enter it next to IP address in OS X Printer Setup. Common queue names are L1, lp, lpt1, etc.
Wait - just remembered I downloaded that manual for someone elses's question. The queue name is lp1 (el-p-one). So in Printer Setup select IP printer > LPD, and enter IP address and that queue name.

My can i not get an updated driver for my Photosmart 7550 i have a MAC. I have had this priner for years and love the quality of the photos that is prints. my can HP not make just a photo printer anymore???? i have since bought the HP photosmart 7520 and the print quality is crap. please help

I read through your post about the concerns you're having with your Photosmart 7550 and 7520, and I am here to address them for you.
There areno available drivers for the PS 7550 on Yosemite, as the printer model is older, and Yosemite is quite new.
Your best bet would be to troubleshoot the Print Quality Issues on your PS 7520, as this model is compatible with 10.10. I would suggest trying all of the steps from this guide to help improve the Print Quality problems:

If you find that the troubleshooting does not help the PQ, call HP directly to see what your printer options are. You may need a replacement part or printer and technical support can help you in that category.

Hello anyone, I want to ask if there is a printer driver for my HP Photosmart 7550 printer to run on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, the card readers are recognised but no drivers for the printer. My printer is fully functional and will still prints brilliant photographs but I now have a new computer and I can no longer use it.

I have 3 macs and 1 pc running vista, my 3 macs print perfectly through airpot express. I installed the airport cd on my pc, but i cant print, Im no good with windows, i was wondering if you could walk me through the process.
I already clicked on add a printer but it wont find my printer, and my printer is connected to my airport express and its on, so, i dont get why it wont recognize it or why doesnt it work
please help

After you click on "Add a Printer", do you select "Add a Network, Wireless, or Bluetooth Printer"?
If that doesn't work, there should be a way to connect by specifying the IP address of your AirPort Express.

You are technically way ahead of me, so I can't argue with what you did.
How about an even simpler WiFi network consisting of only the AirPort connected by an Ethernet cable to the printer? If the iPad still can't find the printer when connected to this network, then something is broken!
(Also try a different Ethernet cable.)

IBook 10.4.11 and Photosmart 7550 - Setup problems

I'm trying to connect a Photosmart 7550 to my old iBook with OS X 10.4.11. I had the same printer hooked up to my eMac with the same operating system and it worked fine. I downloaded the installer from HP's site and it installed ok. When I go to printer setup utility, it shows the printer on the USB port, but the Photosmart 7550 is not one of the options. When I select Other and browse for the PPD, it's not there, even though I ran the installer. Anyone come across this?

Connecting printer only to a second airport express

My three Macs are on an Airport Express network connected to my cable internet service. It is not convenient to connect a printer to this Airport Express. Can I connect a printer only to a second airport express in another room and then print from any of the networked macs? The 2 possible printers are an HP Photosmart C1380 and a Brother HL-2070N. I've seen directions for doing something like this but cannot find them again on this site.

Win7 64-bit driver for Photosmart 7550

I have Windows 7 64-bit. I need a driver for my HP Photosmart 7550 printer. The Deskjet 5550 alternative driver will not work.
Short of dumping the printer, what can I do? Is there a driver to be released soon?

Gee, I hate to say "You've got to be kidding me" but ... (I have a bad attitude over the following)
HP dropped the 7550 when they went to Vista, I see no way that all of a sudden they will support 7 on this.
Now I'm going to see if they do the same to the photosmart premium C309a, see my other thread.
I still have my 7550, it is a terrific photo printer, however without access to the SW, memory card slots, etc. there was no reason to have it on my vista system without full functionality, and HP dropped the ball on it at a time when it was one of the best out there. It was not an outdated model by any means when Vista was released either. Hp seems to have a method where they move on and make you go out and get a new model to go with the new OS, if this becomes the case witht he C309a, I'll be done with their line of printers, both at my home and office.
I hate saying that. I've lived with the bloatware, the patches, and patiently waited for SW that goes with what I think is good hardware (at least I havent had major HW issues, I had an older DJ560 that was serviced in Corvalis, great job) but lately I believe they wish to rest on their history and public name perception. When my fairly new released printer is not supported (and basic functionality of an AIO is for all functions, not just printing) with an OS that was in RC when it came out, then it may be time to make a move.
We'll see after the 22nd.

HP Photosmart 7550 not compatible--suggestions?

I recently purchased a MacBook and I just tried to print photos on my HP Photosmart 7550. It would appear that it is not compatible. Frankly, I have never had a good relationship with this printer, so my heart is not broken. But, I am concerned about the compatibility of a MacBook with whatever I buy next, so I'm hoping for some testimonials and/or advice. I need a printer that will print documents and/or photos, so not one of those "mini" printers. I have considered an all-in-one that also scans, vacuums, and makes dinner.

Then download and install this package:
hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.ppc.dmg (1.6 MB) .
Now you should be able to connect the HP Photosmart 7550 to the Mac and print on it!

HP Photosmart 7550- fixable?

Our photosmart 7550 recently began malfunctioning. The print quality is horrible, with random bars of color across the page, and missing segments of print in a random fashion. We had a slight problem, then the print cartridge carriage kept getting stuck and now the problem is worse. All ink cratridges are new. We were wondering if there is anyplace that fixes these printers, or if they can be fixed at all. We bought a new printer but would like to donate this one, rather than throw it in the landfill.

How is the printer connected? If to a network, what router? What operating system?
