Printing Topics using WebHelp

Can someone tell me how to add controls to my WebHelp project
that will allow users to print a topic (similar to HTML Help)?
Using the browser print functionality results in some of the
page being "cut off".
Thank you very much for your time and assistance,
Nat

  • Copyright Shown When Printing Topics Only

    Hi All,
I'm told that we used to be able to display a copyright
statement only when the user would print topics using WinHelp. The
copyright would not display when viewing.
I'd like to do same thing using RoboHelp HTML Help. Is there
    a way to do this?
So far I've explored footers and templates but to no avail.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Larry

    Hi Pete,
    Well, it worked great.
First, on getting the compiled Help file to open up, I had to
run MJs Help Diagnostics to get the DLLs registered properly. I
believe the problems cropped in when I installed Flare -- our new
    Help tool.
Then, I was able to get the citation working properly with
your excellent instructions. I placed the following in the style
    sheet for each topic.
    @media screen
    p.copyright { display:none; }
    @media print
    p.copyright { display:block; }
Unfortunately, the Help system currently uses a number of
style sheets rather than just one, but it still only took a couple
minutes to put that code in each .css file.
Then I added the following to the TrueCode of a template
    footer.
    <p class="copyright">Copyright © 2008 Scantron
Corporation. All rights reserved. Use permitted only under license.
No part of the Help may be reproduced in any form, or by any means,
without permission from Scantron Corporation. www.scantron.com
I was able to apply this to all 1700 help topics in one fell
swoop. That saved me a lot of work. At first there was a style
sheet associated with the template file. This switched each topic's
style sheet to the template's when I applied the template to some
sample topics. So I removed the .css file association with the
template, and then it worked like a charm.
Thanks again for the insight. I really didn't think that I
had a chance to provide that functionality when QA requested it.

  • How do I print a topic using skin button?

I have tried achieving this using the toolbarscripts01.js created by Willem Van Weeden on Peter Grainge's site. I've implemented .js in the skin for use with PDFs before, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right, but on click, nothing happens, when it should print. Script and instructions can be found here.
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/twisty/twisty.htm
I'm using RH10 and outputting WebHelp.
I should also mention that I first tried the method called Print Button for WebHelp on this page, but it didn't work either.
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm#print
Has anyone else successfully created a print topic button in the skin nav bar? Any suggestions for alternatives or what I might be doing wrong?

Neither of the scripts would be there unless they had been tried first.
The first one has a Rh project set up that you can download. First please try that and confirm that it is working there.
Are you testing on generated output rather than preview?

  • How to add Print button on Webhelp in Robohelp 10?

Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions to add Print button on Webhelp. I'm currently using Robohelp 10. I saw some suggestions using javascript in skin, but there isn't a step-by-step procedure available.
I have been seraching for this from past many days. It'd be of great help to me. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your quick reply. It was really helpful. However, I still can't see the button the webhelp output.
    1. Created a new skin
    2. In the new skin, I added this print button and followed all steps explained (adding inline javascript and calling the function in the action tab under onClick, etc)
    3. I could see the preview of this being perfectly fine.
    4. But, when I generated the output by compiling it again, I could not see the changes I made in the webhelp
    4. I am thinking I am missing a crucial step. Is the new webhelp using the new skin? How to know this?
    5.  I carried out all the steps as explained, except this "Don't forget to tick the Print button in the second page of the wizard". Could you please let me know which wizard this is and where is the check box to tick the print button?
I am eagerly waiting for your answer. Thanks!

  • Print topic window problems on unix

What is used to display the list and status of printers available on unix when using the print topic menu button?
On HPUX, the printer that I am currently using shows up as not accepting jobs even though the lpstat -a says that it is accepting requests.
Any Ideas? Is it something wrong with my system configuration?
I also have a few junk printed names in my list.
Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

That dialog is displayed directly by the Java Runtime Engine. There is no OHJ code involved in fetching the list of printers. I would upgrade to the latest JRE version on your platform, and if it still reproduces, contact the JRE vendor.

  • Creating JMS Topic using JMX/MBeans Interface

    Hello,
I'm trying to create a JMS Topic using MBeans. For this, I first
create a JMSTemplateMBean, then I create a JMSServerMBean (do
setTemporaryTemplate() and addTarget() on the latter) and finally
create JMSTopicMBean. On the JMSTopicMBean, I do setJNDIName() and
    jmsServerMBean.addDestination(topicMBean).
Problem is that when I look in the console, I see only the JMS
Template and JMS Server (JMS Topic is NOT there). But if I try to
rerun my program, it gives 'InstanceAlreadyExistsException' on the
JMSTopic. Also, when I print out all the MBeans, the JMSTopic MBean is
there i.e. its been created. So why won't it show up in the Console ?
    Any ideas are appreciated.
    Thanks
    -PG

I'm having exact same problem, except I'm trying to go through the weblogic.Admin command-line tool. (I'm working with version 6.1) First I create a JMSServer and set its Targets property. It shows up in console and I see the entry in config.xml. Then I create a new JMSTopic and set its JNDIName (I can't see this new topic from console, but an entry is made in config.xml and I can't create the topic again.) Then I invoke the addDestination method on the JMSServer MBean and pass in my new topic. The method returns "false", with no futher explanations or exceptions. If I try to go through the setDestinations property of the JMSServer MBean, the same thing happens: a silent failure.
I have no idea what to do! Is this a bug? Has anyone ever succeeded in doing this sort of thing?

  • Print Report using ASCII command through printer selection available on windows

    Hi,
I'm using Labview 2009 to create a report using Report Generation Toolkit.
Creating a report is not the problem, the problem is I need to print the report manually by sending an ASCII Code.
I noticed that there are few example on send ASCII code command, but neither of them are related to printing.
The printer I use is Panasonic dot matrix printer KX-P1121E with USB port. (Fanfold type of paper)
I used "NI_report_lvclass: Print report.vi" from Report Generation before this to print my report, everything is okay and not receiving any error.
But I noticed that after finish printing, the paper will automatically feed out as if that VI (Print report.vi) is sending out "Form Feed" (FF) Command to the printer.
My application cannot use this method because I need to print a set of data in every minute. If the data only have 2 rows, then it will be a wasting a lot of paper if everytime finished printing paper feeding out. I want the printer to continue standby on the same paper after finished printing previous data. In other words, maybe just manually send "Line Feed or Carriage Return" to the printer.
    So I have a few things need to be clarified step by step;
    1. How can I send an ASCII Code to my printer? Do you have any example for this? link below is the character of ASCII Codes that can be use :http://webpages.charter.net/dperr/links/esc_p83.htm
    2. Can I send a report created by report generation to be printed using this ASCII command method?
    3. If my printer is setup by using windows (Meaning: Available on "Printer and Faxes" list), How can I configure the printer setup in sending the ASCII Code?
    Really appreciated your reply
    Thanks!

    Hi Zwired1,
Just to make sure I fully understand the situation - I am assuming since you say you are printing to two different printers that when you are using the Print Report.vi you are using the printer name string to specify which printer you would like to print on. And if the printer that you specify is not functioning it automatically prints on the other printer, is that correct?
From looking at the code in the Print Report.vi, it looks like if you specify a printer name in the input string, if there is a problem with that printer or if that printer is unavailable, the VI should not print anything, so please let me know if that is not the behavior you are seeing.
For your question about checking the health of printers, there is a VI in the report gen toolkit called Query Available Printers. You can find it if you open up the Print Report.vi and choose the Standard Report instance, the Query Available Printers.vi is on the block diagram of that VI. It will return the list of available printers and the default printer.
    I hope that helps,

    Hi,
Basically Crystal report run with SQL statement, I would suggest to do well performance tuning on SQL query / Store Procedure.
Structure your query in DBA manner that will make some how faster such as use ( inner join, less condition,...)..
also if it simple query then use Command in Crystal report rather store Procedure..that make some how Faster your report.
    Thanks

  • Multiple topics using the same map ID

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me how I go about assigning a map ID number when numerous topics use the same screen?  When I try to do it in the Map ID dialog box, it tells me the number is already assigned.
BTW, does anyone know of any documentation that helps in creating map IDs?.  Most of the information I've found here on the forum addresses how to work with the developer to make sure they work, not for the tech writer to learn how to actually do the map ID'ing so you know you are doing it correctly.  Both books I have on RoboHelp do not discuss this in any length.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response, Peter.  Yes, it is a situation where one screen in the application is used in several topics.  For example, to complete three different endorsements on an insurance policy, they all use the same screen.  Of course, there are different instructions on how to use that screen for each type of endorsement.
    Does that make sense?
But I think you're probably right in that I will have to put links in those topics to the one with the map ID even though that task is not the task they are completing.

  • I have created a family recipe book in iBooks - can I print it using iPhoto's print service?

I have created a family recipe book in iBooks - can I print it using iPhoto's print service? I don't want to print it on our home printer - I want to print multiple copies for family members through the Apple iPhoto book printing service.  Can anyone help me please?

There is no Apple print service for iBooks, and iPhoto can also only print photo books created in iPhoto.
Print your iBook to pdf. Then you have several option:
Save the pdf to a thumbsdrive/stick  and take it to the nearest print shop close to your home.
Search online for "self publishing" services available in your country.
Recreate your book as an iPhoto Book. This will be a lot of work, since iPhoto's templates are more suitable for Picture books than books with lots of formatted text. To speed things up, you could use "Preview" to export the pages of your book as jpegs (high quality, at least 300 dpi) and add themas full-page photos to a new PhotoBook. This can be sent to apple for printing.
But the first two options would be much less trouble and probably be less expensive.

  • How can i  print reports to different printer by use Trigger on table after insert

    Hello,
Please can any one tell me how can i print (any message) to different printer (network & local printer) by use Trigger on table after insert.
    regards,
    Linda.

What you want to do cannot be done with PL/SQL, which does have any print utilities. However you could write something using Java Stored Procedures.
Of course the "different printer" bit will have to be data driven as triggers are not interactive.
