Printing - Unable to lookup host message

Hello. I have a powermac dual 2.0 G5 which is connected to my HP all-in-one 2610xi by a usb cable. I am sharing this printer using the printer sharing in system preferences. I am sharing it wirelessly via the airport card with my G4 titanium powernbook. The powermac is running tiger and the powerbook is running 10.3.9. All of a sudden, when I try to print over the wireless network I get the message "Unable to lookup host" in the print dialogue box. I'm pretty sure that I recently installed the latest update on the powermac so I think that may have done it. Any suggestions on how to deal with this problem. I have already deleted and re-installed the printers/drivers on both computers and repaired permissions on the powerbook. I know the laptop is connecting because I am also sharing my internet connection which is working. Help please!

Thanks

  • Unable to lookup host 'my-imac.lan' – Unknown host

Printing from old iMac running 10.4.11 to printer attached to new iMac running 10.5.7 was working fine for 9 months and now gives the message 'Unable to lookup host ‘my-imac.lan’ – Unknown host'. There is a wireless connection between the machines. It can see the printer which is in the printer list, I can exchange files between the two machines, but it won't print now.
I have just done an Archive and Restore on the old iMac but this has not changed anything.
Wireless printing from a MacBook running 10.5.7 is unaffected.
    Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks for the details. Did some more checking this arvo based on your info and found the following on my Tiger G4.
    Queue Name: [email protected]
    Host Name: 192.168.44.106
As you can probably tell, the IP address shown is the Mac Pro sharing the USB printer, and is running 10.5.7. No mention of a host name or any reference to the name shown in the Sharing pane.
By contrast, another 10.5 Mac connecting to the Mac Pro shows the Queue name as the printer@machine_name (no mention of .local) and the host name as "localhost".
So we need to work out where your Tiger Mac is getting the 10.5 hostname of "My-iMac.lan" I believe that your local hosts file is the likely candidate. If not, then it could be the router that connects the two Mac's together.
For a Mac to Mac local network, the Bonjour Computer Name is typically used to identify each Mac on the network. However, if there is a domain name server (DNS) on your network, then this can override the Bonjour name (which is set via the Sharing pane).
What you can do is open Terminal and type the following.
    cd /etc "then press ENTER".
This will change your current working directory to the etc directory.
    nano hosts "then press ENTER".
This will display the contents of the hosts file and I believe that this may have a reference to the .lan name that is causing the symptom.
If there is no reference to the .lan name then you can exit the nano editor by pressing Control X.
The next thing to try is pinging the name "My-iMac.lan". Open the Network Utility, located in Applications > Utilities, and select the Ping tab. In the address field enter "my-imac.lan" (without the "s) and set the ping count to 4. Now press Ping and see if you get a reply. If there is something associating this name to an IP address, then you should see the IP address in the top line, and if the IP address is currently in use, then you will see replies from that device.
Let me know how all that goes.

    any idea about this?

You tell us that this happens on one client. Are there other clients which work ok? If so then I would wonder about some problem with the install of the client on this PC. Perhaps you might un-install and install again?

  • Printer Utility cannot lookup host computer for network printer sharing

Recently I set up a local net work. G4 Quicksilver is host computer,iBook tries to lookup host to print either from iBook or G4 desktop, get message "can't lookup host". I can access G4 desktop from the iBook, open documents and work on them and have (I think) set up the network correctly. I can access internet from both. I have a D-link router which I have used to access the internet with my iBook (has airport card) but recently installed an airport card in the G4. One thing I noticed was that the G4's name that shows up in the printer utility and in the "cannot lookup hos"message is different from the name I gave my local network, though the name ends in .local for both. Both identify my G4.I have tried AppleTalkon and off, when on my printer utility on th iBook shows the G4 printer as having the iBook as host. I use a CS6600 Epson standalone if that is relevant. Thanks in advance!

Disabling safe eyes does not fix this problem.  You have to actually un-install safe eyes....
I found this out the hard way.  After 4 hours on the phone with HP trying all different things, on two different computers....we gave up....
Both computers already have safe eyes installed.  Both running Windows XP Service Pack 3.  When you try and install the printer and configure for wireless, the program craps out and gives you an error message.  We tried multiple things to no avail.  I asked the rep, hey could this be Norton or Safe Eyes?  I don't think so.  So, this was referred to a Network SME.  And I gave up.
Recently, I decided to give it a shot again.  I un-installed Safe Eyes completely.  No problem.  Wireless printer softer installs, does not crap out, and I can print wireless!
Ok, so now I want to re-install safe eyes.  After re-installing, wireless printing is broken.  My theory is there is a incompatibility or conflict with one of the drivers.  The dll that is mentioned is the icf.dll driver.
So, who is going to fix this?  I've been using safe eyes for 7 years and don't feel like un-installing just to wireless print.  However, the whole reason I bought this printer was for it's wireless capability!  Help HP!

  • Unable to resolve 'weblogic.messaging.dispatcher.S:null'

We have a WLS 10.3 cluster with 1 admin server and 2 managed servers. Each managed server hosts JMS queues so we have a distributed queue environment. Applications periodically report an issue that prevents messages from being dropped onto the queues. The frequency of the issue is weekly and sometimes multiple times during the week. Hi,
I would suggest you to go through these 2 links which you give all the details about UDD
Topic:Steps to Configure Uniform Distributed Queue (UDQ) on Weblogic Server
    http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=3747
Topic:JMS Demo using WebLogic Uniform Distributed Queue (UDQ)
    http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?page_id=1976
    Tips to solve UDQ issues
    - Make sure the Server Affinity Enabled parameter should be un-checked (disable) which under the [ Connection factory –> Configuration (tab) –> Load Balance (sub-tab)]
    - Disable the Server Affinity Enabled parameter for the connection factory whish is been used by your UDQ.
    - All the managed servers are in the same cluster.
    - If the managed serves are in different boxes make sure the listing address is given correctly which is under [ Machine –> Configuration (tab) –> Node Manager (sub-tab) ]
    - Test if you are able to PING the servers on different boxes and make sure that there is no network issues and you are able to communicate with the servers.
    Hope this helps you.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless: HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.

Installing new printer,  getting error msg saying HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.   MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router which can prevent HP printer from connecting to your wireless network during setup.
SOLUTION says:  If MAC address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the MAC addressof your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless router before continuing.
My router is WD My Net N900 Router. MAC filtering is diabled. My security mode is WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I have run out of ideas to try and fix the issues, would appreciate some help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jamshidk
I am surprised you are getting that message and you checked the router settings and it is showing that the Mac Filtering is disabled.
I would suggest connecting the printer to the router with a ethernet cable to get a valid IP address and then setup the wireless.
    Print a configuration report.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01554589&lc=en&product=3760410&tmp...
Type the IP address from the configuration page  in the address bar into internet explorer browser. This will open the embedded web server for the printer. Click on the Networking tab, on the left hand side select wireless. After this is setup and applied, disconnect the ethernet cable.
Should be on the wireless network. Takes about 1 minute.
    Run the add printer wizard.
Go to start, devices and printers and select add a printer. (Win 7)
    Test the printer.

Any idea what's going on or how to prevent it?

I have isolated the issue to ssh and the login window. I can use these same administrator credentials to initiate ARD sessions, configure the server via Server admin or WGM, authenticate to perform privileged finder operations.
    restarts do not change anything.
per a related post, but not identical investigated /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/config/ I only had one of the referenced files, not the several hundred those posters seemed to have. I made a backup, and removed it, followed by a restart. There was no effect.
I opened Server Admin, and turned off ssh, verified that remote login was not checked in System Preferences. Logged out, no effect, restarted again no effect.
There is no joy with trying Local Administrator.
This is a clean 10.5.4 Install (Monday, August 3) DNS works per Anthony Rocco's setup instructions and verification methods. DNS was working prior to upgrading to OD Master. Kerberos logins worked properly. I was going through and setting up share points and setting ACLs when I realized I lost access.
I would take any suggestions people might have...

  • Unable to lookup System  ...check the system object and the alias

    Hi,
I am working on EP6 Sp 9. I have created iviews and integrated j2ee application by appIntegartor . everything is working fine . but these iviews are working only with superadmin role . with any other role am getting the error message "Unable to lookup System 'NNNJ2ee'. Please check the system object and the alias.."
Have created a role and done appropriate user mapping. Connection Test goes through successfully and iViews work fine as expected, but just in administrator login.
i found a a thread dissucing about the same problem in this  forum and followed the solution given by them(assigning eu_role to the user) .
But still it is not working for me.
can anyone please help me in finding the solution .
    Thanks,
    Lakshmi

    Hi,
    <b>The cause is :</b>
When you create an item with the 'super admin role' user's , you don't have the role : 'eu_role' assigned.
So when you create a new item the role 'eu_role' is not spread to end user.
    <b>The solution is :</b>
First add the 'eu_role' to the super admin user. For all next item created it's work fine.
    For item already created,
    - right click on the object, Select open permissions.
    - In the display option, choose Permissions
    - Search for role : 'eu_role'
    - Add the permissions
    - check the box 'End User'
    - Save
    - And test
For me it's work fine. Let me know if it's good for you...

    Hi Sumit,
System is an object in Portal Content Directory (PCD). User of portal should have permissions to access it. Looking up is a kind of access.
Please go to System Administration -> System Configuration -> System Landscape. Find your system and right-click on it, then choose 'Permissions'. There you should make sure that your portal user has permissions.
You can read about permissions here:<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/f6/2604e505fd11d7b84200047582c9f7/frameset.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/f6/2604e505fd11d7b84200047582c9f7/frameset.htm</a>
There is an extract probably related to your problem:
" If an iView is based on a system object defined in your system landscape (see System Landscape), you must assign end user permission for the relevant user, group, or role to the system object, as well. End user permission assigned to a system permits the iView to retrieve data from the respective back-end application through the system object at runtime."

We have some IDOCS in SAP.
Webmethods is talking to SAP and looking up these IDOCS.
However it is unable to lookup all the IDOCS.
    We are using ECC6 system.
On further observation we've observed that IDOCS with release 4.6 are lookedup by Webmethods but IDOCS with release 700 ae not looked up.
What is the reason for this?
This is the error message that Webmethods gets
[SAP.108.9351] WmSAP Adapter: Could not find IDoc "ORDERS05.ZGSLSITE_CO(700)

    HI,
ORDERS05.ZGSLSITE_CO looks like a custom Messagetype.
Maybe you have the wrong Messagetype or reimport the Metadato for ORDERS05.ZGSLSITE_CO.

  • JNDI failure. Unable to lookup Data Source

    Dear all
I'm running my ADF application from the jdeveloper integrated web logic server and every thing is ok.
My project contains BC and a bounded tasklflow that contains two views.
the problem happened when I changed the connection type of the application module from "JDBC Datasource" to "JDBC URL".
The name of the jdbc url is "jdbc/pmsDS"
I made this because I want to deploy my application to weblogic server and I created a datasource with the same name "jdbc/pmsDS" in weblogic server.
I tried to test and run the application on my local jdeveloper , it fails and this error occurs
oracle.jbo.DMLException: JBO-27200: JNDI failure. Unable to lookup Data Source at context jdbc/pmsDS
Can any one plese tell me what is the problem. Whay my application can not identify the JNDI.
    Thanks

  • Unable to lookup System

    Hi,
I am working on EP6 SR 1 (NW). I have connected the portal to BW (3.0B) system and able to create BW Report iViews for the connected BW System. However, these
iViews work only with the Administrator login. When I create a user with assigning just the role created for the BW iView reports and try to access the BW iViews, I get the error message "Unable to lookup System 'Cel_DBW010'. Please check the system object and the alias..".  I have created the BW System DBW010 and an alias Cel_DBW010. Have created a role and done appropriate user mapping. Connection Test goes through successfully and iViews work fine as expected, but just in administrator login. Any help would be appretiated.

    Hi,
go to the system landscape in your portal, right-click your system and edit the permissions.
Your user must have a role that is listed there with read-permission!
Usually, the every_user (or 'Everyone') role is listed there with read permission, so your user should have the every_user role as well.
    Hope this helps,
    Karsten
