Printing via Airport Express:  Missing Final Form Feed

Maybe a guru could help with this one...
Spooling a print job from an iMac G5 to an HP Photosmart 7150 that is connected to the Airport Express USB port...
The job prints fine but I don't get a FINAL FORMFEED after the last page has printed. I have to manually eject...
The iMac has the latest OS Update (10.4.2) and all the drivers for system software (including Airport 4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.2). The printer driver is from HP's support site - version 2.5.6 (August 2005) for Mac OX X v10.2, 10.3 & 10.4.
Note: the printer works fine (final form feed & all) when you have it attached directly to the iMac.

Hi Ian and welcome to the Discussions.
According to HP the PhotoSmart 7150 is not compatible with the Airport base station, which implies that it will not work across a network when connected to an Airport Express as it would when directly connected.
It may work as you want with a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers and the process outlined here: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1300.html

Thanks for all your replies. I tried repairs pewrmissions in disk utility again and got slightly excited when printer utility automatically selected a generic post script driver but my printer just printed jibberish.

  • Printing via Airport Express does not Work

I have been using an Airport Express Basestation with my Mac Mini and Epson Stylus 880 for about a year without a problem. Now I have moved to an Intel iMac and cannot print via Airport anymore. The file get´s spooled but then I get an error message saying that the printer driver might be incompatible. If I use the same driver with the local USB port everythings works fine.
    Please help,

  • HP printer not printing via Airport Express

I have a HP DeskJet D2330 printer that I am trying to use via Airport Express. The issue is that while the printer is detected in the Airport Utility, and is detected in System Preferences as a Bonjour printer, I can't print to it. Documents sent to the printer appear in the queue and then disappear but no pages come out of the printer.

Hi - similar problem. Mine talked a little (test page would print about ~1 inch then grind to halt). No luck with escalated apple network tech. Problem (apple sez) is with HP. HP is quiet but has list of printers "likely" to work with Airport Extreme , but dated (indicates rendezvous with extreme vice bonjour). FYI, my printer works fine when USB direct to mac. Also Works fine from Mac or PC as ethernet-connected printer on home network (with Linksys/N Giga router) as network printer (also sets up as "bonjour" printer for what that is worth). Also problem exists with imac connected to Airport extreme via wireless or wired. So...problem seems to be pretty specific to talking via airport extreme USB. Havent tried to use ethernet yet, but need the slot for other equip.
    Anyone else having any luck?
Also anyone have proven good printer hookup? I need photo quality printer.

  • Cannot print via airport express - mac novice

I have an ibook g4 running tiger 10.4.2 OS. i recently got an airport express which i connected to my cable modem and an HP PSC 1350 printer. beautiful!..however, i subsequently connected my stereo and can no longer print to that printer. when a job is sent to the printer the status icon pops up on the dock, but eventually i get the dreaded red exclamation point and a 'job stopped' message when i view the printer status. the printer works when connected directly to my ibook. i ve tried everything i can think of--resetting the base station, changing security types, deleting/re-adding the printer, using different drivers, , disconnecting the stereo, even 2 hours with applecare after which they told me 'sorry dude'. i checked the unofficial list of printers that are compatible with airport express and the hp 1350 is on there. can anyone help? this is my first mac and everything has been GREAT so far except this issue. i just cant figure this one out..

Thomas I did find this on HP's Web site. But beside this you may want to look for other (GIMP printer drivers that may accomodate the wireless compatibility).. HP does state:

HP does not offer support for any All-in-One product via Rendezvous/Bonjour, however some products might work when plugged into an Airport Basestation via USB. These products might work with the print functionality only. See the list below for such products.

  • Cannot print via AirPort Express

I bought Airport Express a few days ago and have connected the ethernet cable and have wi-fi running. However I cannot print wirelessly (the printer is connected to AirPort Express via USB) and everytime I try it fails to locate the printer. This is because the settings are old (I used to hav my iMac as a base station but now the printer is not connected to the iMac and is now connected to AirPort Express). Could somebody tell me how I can fix this problem.

  • Wireless printing via airport express

Ive encountered a problem when it comes to printing over my home wireless network. The network consists of a single airport express base station connected via ethernet to my modem and broadcasting a wireless signal for both a macbook and a acer laptop to access the internet, which works just fine.
I also have a HP deskjet multifunction printer connected to the base station via the usb port, witch also shows up in the airport utility as being connected to the router. I'm aware that the scan function will only work when its directly connected to the computer, but as for printing, Ive set up the printer using bonjour for windows on the acer laptop, and that machine is able to print via the base station with no troubles at all.
Here is the problem. I'm able to add the printer to the list of printers on the macbook using the correct driver, and it says under location that its connected to the airport express, but when I go to print (a test page, etc) the document wont print. i get the following message - "Unable to read response header - short read" and it just hangs in line until I cancel the job. Ive tried the options on the apple troubleshooting guide, removing and adding the printer, restarting the base station and the multifunction, etc, but still no result. any ideas?

you might find pointers in the _*Printer Troubleshooting Guide*_.

  • TS1253 Print via airport express on iPad

How can we set up printing on iPad via a airport express? I've tried several apps but none really seem to allow printing emails etc some even charge per print which is just ridiculous...
    iPad3
    Epson BX525WD
    Airport Express (Old style)

PrintCentral for the iPad appears to be a very popular App, since it supports a wide range of printers.
Worth a look if you have not alredy done so. Check with Print Central support to verify that your printer will be supported.

  • Printing via Airport Express

I've set up Airport Express via the walkthrough. It shows up on my network. I've connected my printer to the USB port. I've selected that printer which is labelled Printer_Name @ MyComputerName, pressed print – and I'm being told the printer is not connected. The set up is in my office, so the modem is a couple of feet from the computer – I haven't tried with other computers in the house yet.
I'm trying to get access to the printer from other computers in the house via wifi. Anyone have any ideas about why the printer is showing but is not operable? It's a Canon MX310, and I've hooked my Express up via my BT modem.

My guess is that you are confused by this:
+"your printer @ AirPort Express" is what should appear in the printer list on the left of the window once you have installed the printer and you open Print & Fax.+
This would be the situation after you have installed the printer. I think you are confusing this with trying to install the printer. When you click the + button to add a new printer, click whatever printer appears in the box and click Add.
If your printer is compatible and the printer works with the Express....
Then open Print and Fax again and you should see your printer listed twice. One is installed at your computer. The other is installed at the Express.
Be sure to select the appropriate printer/location when you try to print a document. If the printer is compatible and you plan to leave it connected to the AirPort Express, you can make it the default printer so you don't have to choose which printer to use every time you want to print.

  • Iphone printing via airport express, airport extreme or time capsule

I see lots of info about air print. What I don't understand is why I cannot print something from my iphone via an airport express or time capsule connected printer.  Makes no sense.  What is the workaround here?  Is the only solution to buy an air print enabled printer?
My current setup is time capsule--2 iphones, 2 Macbook Pros, 1 ipad. One airport express (extending the network of my TC) . The airport express has my printer connected to it.
What the heck?  Couldnt Steve fix this before he went to the light?

    Hi,
From my own experience - iPhone 3GS X2, iPad 2 all running iOS 4.3.5 to a MacMini running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 - AirPrint Activator works like a charm. It's awesome. But my shiny new iPhone 4S ( running iOS 5 ) refuses to see any printers. I have reinstalled AirPrint Acitvator ( as per their web site ), to no avail. I have tried connecting my printers directly to my AirPort Extreme to see if my 4S would see a network printer. But no joy. DONT UPGRADE TO iOS 5 if printing is important to you!!

  • Can't seem to print via Airport Express & Xerox Printer

For some reason I cannot make this happen. I have an Airport Express plugged in. The USB cable is linked between my Xerox 6280n and the Express.
    What now?
I hit print, then click the Xerox under nearby printers, it says there is new software from Apple, so I click "download and install" then it says the software is "currently unavailable". I can print directly from the computer no problem, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I download the firmware update from Xerox and it asks me to "set the IP address for printer"
I printed out the test copy and it listed the IP as 0.0.0.0 that has to be wrong, I have no idea at this point.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Sometimes repeated resets will temporarily lock up the AirPort Express (AX). Try powering it off for 30-45 minutes or so. Then hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the AX back in to power. Release the reset button after 8-10 seconds. This is known as a Factory Default Reset.
Try connecting the ethernet cable again between your computer and the AX to help AirPort Utility "see" the AX so that you can reconfigure it.
If you try the Factory Default Reset a few more times and AirPort Utility still cannot "see" the AX, I'm afraid that this is an indication that something has failed within the AX and it will need to be replaced.

  • Problems printing via AirPort Express in Windows

    Hi,
I have recently bought an Airport Express base station. I have configured it correctly, with PPPoE, AirTunes and Printer sharing.
I have a mac and a pc connected to Airport Express, and with my mac, the base station works without any problems. My pc (running Windows XP SP2) connects to the internet, but it cannot use the printer feature.
I have installed Bonjour for Windows 3, and when I boot the computer, it recognizes the printer (HP LaserJet 1320) immediately. But after a couple of minutes, it disappears, and the pc can no longer connect directly to the base station nor use the connected Bonjour-printer. Despite this, it is still connected to the internet.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

  • Canon ip5000 freezes with large files while printing via Airport Express

I've discovered a fairly consistent problem when I print from my Powerbook G4 17" to my Canon ip5000 printer. My printer is connected to an Airport Express, which is set as a print server.
When I print large files - say, a full-quality photo, or a web page with a lot of images - the printer freezes about 20% of the way through the document. It will hang, and the print queue just says its still printing, with the status bar at the 20% - 30% range and holding.
If I leave things alone, eventually, the printer will spit out the unfinished print-out. The queue will continue to read "in progress" until I manually delete the print job.
I've been able to repeat this problem with about 80% consistently, although 20% of the time, the print-out works fine (even when printing the same image that failed previously).
Any ideas / assistance is apprecaited.
