Printing Wirelessly to a printer connected to a Windows computer.

Hi,
First off, I know that this question has been asked a million times before, but I've read all of the other threads and haven't been able to find a solution that has worked for me yet. I've gotten it to work for my Windows laptop, but not for my MacBook.
Anyway,
I am trying to connect my MacBook to a HP Deskjet F380. I have installed the driver software for the printer, however I still cannot seem to locate it over my wireless network. I would read the manual but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
If it helps, my wireless router is a Linksys wireless-G broadband router with a 4-port switch.

First - The driver from HP won't work. It is a USB-only driver. Either Gutenprint or hpijs will work:

In my home I have a DSL internet connection, a Linksys router, one wired Windows computer to the router, and one wireless Mac and one wireless PC. In this configuration, the printer is connected to the wired Windows PC. How can I print directly from my iMac to the printer connected there?

No, the problem wasn't ever solved. So I compromised and finally hooked up the free printer that came with my Mac. Although I wasn't able to share a printer, I was able to access files and print them kind of the hard way by enabling windows sharing under Sys Prefs > Sharing > Windows Sharing. And then you need to click on accounts and enter your password. Then use the key that the Mac gives you (Should be something like \\192.168.1.1##\shortname) and then on your PC, go to "My Network Places" and click on "Set up a network place." When prompted choose to enter the location yourself and enter the number address given on the Mac. After that a box should pop up asking you for your name and password (which is that of the Mac) and then you should be able to access all of the files that are on your Mac from your PC and print directly that way. Printing to a Printer connected to a Windows PC no longer works

I have been printing to an HP LaserJet 6L Printer connected to a Windows XP PC for quite some time now. But now when I try to print I get this error:
Connection Failed with error
NTSTATUSUNSUCCESSFUL
My Mac is running Tiger 10.4.11 and is up-to-date with patches.
My PC is setup for file and printer sharing. And when I right click on my printer on my Windows XP PC, I see that it is enabled for sharing.
I am only running the Windows firewall and the ports are open for file and print sharing.
I know that my Mac and PC can talk to each other. I can use my Mac to mount a Windows samba share and view pictures stored on my PC.
I have not opened up any ports on my Mac running Tiger. I have never needed to in the past to print to a printer connected to a Windows PC.
But why is my printing no longer working?
Any ideas?

I tried turning off the Mac firewall. It made no difference.
I also tried to delete and re-add the Windows Printer. The Mac Printer setup Utility shows the Workgroup and Computer Name. But when I try to add the printer, it asks for a username and password. Originally my account on the Windows PC had no password, so I just entered the username with no password. No luck. So I added a password to the Windows user account and tried again no luck.
I also tried using the ADVANCED approach (via holding down the Option Key when you click on More Printers) and manually adding the samba printer. No luck.
I suspect the last Security Update to Tiger broke samba printing.
I really don't won't to go the static IP approach but I may have to. Any other ideas?

I have a MacBook, a Powerbook, and a Windows XP computer.
I currently have the printer connected to the XP computer using USB.
I am thinking of buying an Airport Express, but I don't want to connect the printer to the Airport Express as it also functions as a scanner, and I do not want to lose this function.
I understand that I can 'share' my printer, so that my Macs can 'see' it and print to it. I also understand that in order for this to work, the XP computer must be switched on and logged in.
My question is: is it an easy process to allow my printer to be shared by the MacBook and Powerbook? (for instance, will I need to install the printer driver's for Mac on each of these machines)

Have a look at the Keyspan USB Server this may allow you to share the full functionality of your multi-function device.
Personally if I was going to spend money I would purchase an AIO printer with an integrated print server.

You may need to use a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

Is it possible to connect to a Windows computer with Apple Remote Desktop?

I just bought Apple's Remote Desktop program and I love it!
The only problem I have is that I can't just conncect to a Windows computer.
I need to do this!!
I saw in a screenshot in the Mac App Store that the Apple Employey had connected to a Windows computer so I thought it would work just fine.

Should be, though I have no personal experience using it. VNC seems to be touchy with ARD, so if Vine doesn't work, you might want to try another version. Or just use Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac or a service such as LogMeIn; those would give you the same capabilities and probably be less fuss and bother.

Trying to print from a Vista computer to a printer connected to an XP computer

I am trying to print from a Windows Vista computer to a shared Laserjet p2035n printer connected via USB cable to a Windows XP computer. When I try to print a test page 2 files are sent to the spool/printers folder on the XP computer but nothing prints. The printer prints fine when printing directly from the XP computer. When I found the printer on the network and told it to connect it installed automatically. I thought maybe the wrong drivers were somehow installed so I downloaded and ran the Vista drivers file for this printer from the HP site but it didn't change anything.
I have cleared the spool folder and reinstalled the printer but still no joy.
Any suggestions?

Here is some additional information... The printer does print from other networked XP computers, just not from the networked Vista computer. This makes it seem like it must be a driver issue. Is there some way to totally remove the HP drivers for this printer from the Vista computer so that I can do a fresh install? When I uninstall the printer from the Vista computer it obviously doesn't remove the drivers because when i reinstall the printer it goes in automatically without giving me a chance to specify where the drivers are.
Are there any known issues regarding printing from a networked Vista machine to a printer connected to an XP box?

Need help with a printer connected to a windows home server

I have a Windows Home Server that has a Brother laser printer connected to it via a USB cable. The printer driver is installed on the WHS and on each PC. My PCs on the network find the printer and can print to it with no problems. But, with my MBA, I'm having issues. I can see the printer as part of the server when installing/setting it up on the MBA and found the Ma printer driver from Brother and installed it on MBA. However, print jobs I send it never print out. What did I do wrong?

Your MBA should be able to detect the printer and locate the driver, install it and mount the printer. I have an HP5180 color all in one, which I have connected to my Windows PC, and my MBA sees it and prints to it just fine. Have you looked to see if Brother has a Mac driver for it?

Iphone4s wont connect to my windows computer over usb cable

i have an iphone 4s with the latest ios 7.1.2 and have tried to connect it to my computer (which uses windows 7) using the usb port. However, when i plug in the phone the computer doesn't seem to recognise it. The phone buzzes as it still charges, i have checked and made sure i have apple mobile device support installed and have restarted it to see if it would make any difference. The device doesn't show up in the device manger under imaging devices or universal serial bus controller, i have uninstalled and re installed itunes and have the most up to date version. I just want to be able to transfer my photos onto my computer. Can anyone suggest anything?

Officejet 7500A Wide Format printer connects intermittently to computer through wireless network

I have a recently purchased Officejet 7500A printer that I would like to use wirelessly. I have an Apple wireless router and am running Windows 7 on my computer. The printer and computers individually connect to the network and there are no issues with the router. The issue is with the connection between the computer and printer. I can print things from my computer by emailing the file to the printer, but only sometimes does it work through directly printing from the software. I have tried to scan from my computer and from the printer, but get the same error message from both that there is no communication between the printer and computer. I suspect it is a firewall issue, but am not sure how to modify the settings to allow this communication to occur. I have the windows firewall and have Advanced System Protector software, but have disabled the windows shield in that software. Help?

So do you have multiple anti-virus systems installed on your PC (even if they are not all active)? If so, this can certainly lead to bizarre behavior.
I would pick one system, uninstall others using their own unistallers (restarting the PC after every uninstall).
With the one you chose to have on your system, make sure it is updated to the latest rev.

Printing to HP OfficeJet 5610 connected to networked Windows Computer

I have an HP OfficeJet 5610 connected one of my windows (XP Pro SP2) computers that is on my network. I can see the printer under the Windows Printers tab, but there is not an applicable driver. I have installed the HP Printer software found on this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-55822-2 &lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=441125&os=219&lang=en, but this didn't help. How can I get this to work.

Windows Printing and IP printing on OS X are provided by the CUPS system. You need a CUPS-capable driver to use these built-in network protocols. HP's drivers for non-postscript printers aren't CUPS drivers. You need to install the third-party hpijs driver (3-part set):

You also need to get the PPD because your model was left out of the current hpijs:

Unfortunately there isn't a PPD there, either. I don't know how to obtain one. If we're patient, maybe Matt Broughton will come by and help us get the PPD.
You should experiment with the HP officejet 5500 foomatic model choice to see if it works.

Can't print to AEBS from Windows computer

I have an ibook and a Dell desktop running Windows XP. I'm using an AEBS with a Canon i560 connected via USB. This setup has worked fine for two years but now I suddenly can't print from the Dell. I used Rendevous (now BonJour) when initially setting up my network, and it always worked great. The Dell still seems to see the Canon; that is, it shows up in the menu. But when I print, nothing happens, and I eventually get a printer error message. It still prints from the iBook fine. I've tried everything, including deleting the printer and using Rendevous to re-set up the connection. I also tried turning off my firewall, to no avail. Help!

Sharing a printer attached to a windows computer

I have successfully set up my G4 to share files with my windows pc through my linksys router. My PC is wired to an HP 6010 all in one printer. I cannot print using my mac. I set up the printer to be shared and can use it with other pc notebooks using my wireless network. Does anyone know how to set up my g4 to use my printer?

I set up the printer as per the instructions.
It was set up as a generic postcript printer.
My HP 6110 does not appear on any lists.
Unfortunately, when I try to print a document, the printer prints some lines like: 14 dict begin/FontName ?LMQJP+TimesNewRomanPSMT def/PaintType 0 def...and so forth, but the actual document does not print.
What do you think the problem is?
Does my printer software have to be loaded on my Mac?

Wireless Router WRT54GS - One connection bumps the other computer off...

I've set up the Wireless Network using the direct console setup as specified by the instructions to set up via Cable Internet connection.
The wireless network seems to work fine, but the direct connection via Network cable the internet connection works for a little bit and then is bumped off. When I unplug the cable and then plug it back in, the PC connection works (for a time) but then I get a "conflict has occured with another computer on the network with the same ip" message. Eventually one of the computers is bumped off the connection. Is the redundant IP the problem, and if so, how can I fix this?

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
