Printing with apple
I forgot - Does anyone know why when I hooked my epson printer up to the macbook pro that it prints fine but I can't set printer preferences such as change plain paper to photo etc...because the computer doesn't give me that option anywhere to do so.

Hi Diane,
If you press command-P then use the dropdown tab you can change the printer settings.
If you are in aperture then again from the print menu you can change the prefs there.

Memory died, replaced but now can't print with apple apps
User installable memory died, kernel failures, finally froze, replaced, all better but had to use Diskwarrior to clean up mess on hard drive. Now everything works BUT I can't print from Apple apps. MSOffice updated and prints, Safari, appleworks etc. don't all crash when printing. Cleaned out Printing PPD's, printer defs in Library, reinstalled printers from scratch, disk repair, etc. Even rezapped PRAM again. No luck.
Seems like this is tied to an apple OS function I haven't found yet.
Anybody got any ideas before I reinstall the OS?

Well, bottom line, had to nuke the HD and reinstall the entire system. Everything is fine. Seems the archive and install couldn't deal with the degree of disk confusion caused from the declining memory prior to failure.

I can see only one Printer with Apple Talk, but there are five ???
I have a problem on only one mac, with the Apple Talk. We have over 100 Macintosh and all the other machines see the five printers. But this one can only see "one" printer???
What is this? We change the switch port but nothing.
Can i delete any chaches oder preferences to clear the printers???
The problem Mac have 10.3.9Have you added the other printers to the problem mac?
If you have then my guess is that it is a network issue. How are the printers and macs networked? -
HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw Color Printer with Apple iPad & iPhones
I have an HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw Color Printer that I've successfully used as an "air print" device to print from both iPhones and iPads. For some unknown reason, I can't print from iPhones and iPads anymore. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Is this a result of Apple most recent iOS upgrades? Everything was working with iOS 6.0.x and seems to have stopped working with iOS 6.1.x.
I "think" I'm try to determine what I need to upgrade (printer firmware or iOS device firmware . . . or both).

I see you are having an issue with Air Print on your CP1525nw Color Laserjet Pro. Have you tried a full network power cycle?

It sounds like the network most likely lost communication with the bonjour service of the printer.

Selecting Different Printer With Apple Script.

I am currently in the process of making a script to be able to print off labels without the need of much user input (read from a document or e-mail) and I want to be able to set the printer when it goes to the print screen.
this is the final apple script step in the application cmd+p brings up the 1st print menu the return takes it to the second print menu cmd+v pastes predifind by the user the ammount of copys they want

Does anyone know what I would have to use for it to select the right printer? (The Zebra Technologies ZTC GK420t)

Hi Everybody,
I use an Epson Stylus Office BX320FW printer with my IMac. Since upgrading OSX, I have lost the ability to print and scan. I have downloaded printer drivers from both Epson and Apple. I am using the printer in wifi mode but can not get it print or scan. How do I uninstall the Epson software and start all over again?

Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!

I have a Apple imax only about 9 months old. I need a new printer. I am looking at a Canon MX926 PIXMA. Do I have Airprint or do I need to purchase it? I am a novice with Apple and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac is only 9 months old, it probably comes with OS X Mountain Lion, and it includes AirPrint, so you do not need to purchase anything else apart from the printer (which is compatible with AirPrint).

What is wrong with Apple's support of printers ... inability for MacBook Pros to connect with HP and other printers. Yet the same printers
work under Mac OS based Parallels (running Windows or Ubuntu) - WHY? Finger pointing (HP . Apple ... Apple > HP) ... who cares ... FIX IT ... this has gone on for months now. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?HP discontinued support (read: stopped updating their OS X printer drivers) for a lot of their printers back when Apple released Snow Leopard and dropped even more when Lion was released. This is an HP problem, not an Apple problem.
Exacty what printers are you having problems with?
If any of your printers are on the HPIJS list, try installing the HPIJS drivers (there are 3 files to install, and it won't hurt anything). This solved the issue for me on Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt. Lion with my older HP printers. -

Printing with Epson 2880 after Apple Software Update of Epson Drivers
I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the loss of "Print Settings and Color Management" controls in the print dialogue when printing from Lightroom or Photoshop after the recent Driver Update (which appeared in Software Update.) Prior to the Update which I had been avoiding until it came down when I updated iTunes (again, Software Update) all print options were available with the Epson software. Oddly, if you elect allowing the printer to control the output the color and color settings are available but if you set the (Lightroom or Photoshop) dialogue to the paper profile then the color and color settings are grayed out. I talked at length with both Epson Tech support and went through the drill of removing and installing the printer and installing the newest drivers (from Epson) and nothing changed. I talked with Apple and again, nothing changed inspite of various adjustments. This is just a little disturbing since I do a considerable amount of photo printing.
Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.I'm going to make an additional comment to my question and that is, strange as the behavior is, this may be a normal function with the update. Although during my roughly hour talk with Epson tech support, the rep was not aware and gave me reason to believe what was (not) happening in the software was in fact wrong. Clearly, the new print dialogue with it's grayed out settings is different from the previous print dialogue and print settings. If you now use a paper profile - regardless of manufacturer - the software assumes you are going to turn off color management - which is absolutely correct. Although I have not tried it, I am led to believe from some material I found deep in Epson's Support, the "color" area in the print dialogue no longer permits electing printing in "advanced" Black and White. More correctly, inorder not to have B&W grayed out you must be using glossy paper and the correct black ink cartridge is in the printer. This isn't a bad idea but sometimes I find the image is better with a Matte paper. Obviously you can, and I have, printed in B&W - you just have to be aware that within the Color settings of the print dialogue you no longer have the "option" to select B&W or advanced B&W. In some strange ways the new dialogue and settings areas of the Apple print menu for the Epson printers is simpler but it does come as a surprise when you first struggle with the changes.

Unable to print with my Canon PIXMA IP 4700 and JetDirect network appliance
After many tries I decided to post my question.
I have a Canon PIXMA IP 4700 connected to the network with a Jetdirect 175X box. So I tried to add a new printer with a "HP Jetdirect Socket" port. I have previously installed the driver from the official website. The test page is staying on the spooler.
I also tried with LPD port (supported by the Jetdirect box) and IPP but nothing is working.
When the printer is directly connected with USB, it's working fine. Printing from my others Windows computers is working fine too since many months.

Your problem is being caused by the Canon driver. It cannot be used when the printer is connected to the USB port of a 3rd party print server, or if shared by Windows.
The solution is to use a driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free (it ships with OS X) however the iP4700 is not listed as a supported model. The iP4600 is listed so you could try selecting this model in the Print Using menu (shown as Canon PIXMA iP4600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3). If the iP4600 Gutenprint driver does not work that well then you could look at using [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] which does support the iP4700. It costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so at least you can try it before committing to buying.
Another option would be to use a Airport device, like the Express, instead of the Jetdirect print server. With the printer connected to its USB port you can then use the Canon iP4700 driver on the Mac. -
Need instruction on how to print with HP Officejet 6210
this is with a powerbook G4 1.5, OS 10.4.5, and an HP Officejet 6210 with newest drivers (released 8/06).
I've used an HP PSC950 for years, connected to my AEBS with USB, using Felix's instructions for setting up the foomatic/hpijs driver, always worked great. Once in a while it would go out on me, rarely, and i'd reinstall the driver and it would work again.
Several months ago, i was trying to print something on Mapquest and i gave too many commands at once and the system got confused and ever since then, it won't print wirelessly, reinstalling the driver didnt' help.
Also, i'm not sure i'm adapting Felix's instructions to the new OS which doesn't exactly match the instructions.
Anyway, haven't had wireless printing in months. Finally tonight, i went out and got a new printer, the HP Officejet 6210, first checking and finding it on the compatability list, both Felix's list and HP's list.
I set it up, it works fine with direct computer/printer USB connection.
I just don't know how to set up the Mac to print with the 6210. I have the 6210 connected to the AEBS with USB cable. I dont know what else to do.
I went to an HP page where it gives step by step instructions for USB to Airport instructions.

Step one and two are OK. Step 3 says:
"Turn on the printer and verify that the wireless mode is enabled. If you need more information on how to enable the wireless mode, see the User Manual which shipped with the printer."
I have no clue about how to verify that the wireless mode is enabled. In the index of the 6210 User Manual there is not a word about 'wireless.' The word 'network' isn't in there either. Under 'Connection' it doesn't mention anything about wireless printing. So i'm not really able to do this step.
I tried to do the other steps but if they are talking about the Airport pull down menu in Step 4, there is no printer listed there. I tried to follow step 5 but it leads nowhere.
Is there some way to set up the Mac the way i set it up for the foomatic/hpijs driver for the PSC 950, so that i can select 10.0.1.1 in the printer menu and print? I tried going into the set up utility and chose Add and chose internet IPP printing and wanted to choose the HP 6210 driver but it wasn't available. There was an HP 6200 series foomatic/hpijs driver--what does that mean? Am i supposed to use that? I chose that and tried to print from 10.0.1.1 but in Print Jobs it just says "10.0.1.1 is busy, will retry in 30 seconds." In other words, it doesn't work. This is what happened when i tried to get the PSC 950 working again too.
Anyway, the HP instructions don't have anything to do with any of this. They just say to make sure the wireless mode is on and then go to Safari and choose Bonjour and various other things that when i try them, they aren't available as choices.
I know that someone on these forums was able to use Bonjour to print with their laptop so it must be possible (with Windows however).

Plus HP says they tested the connection with Mac OS and it works. So it must just be a matter of some knowledge i am lacking that would get it working.
If the printer won't work, i have to return it within 14 days so I need to get on it and try to determine if it will work.

I seriously don't think this printer has a wireless mode, otherwise it would be mentioned in the manual. I ran through the menu, tools and preferences (on the printer)--nothing about wireless mode. But why should it need a wireless mode if it's connected by USB cable to the AEBS? Isn't this just a matter of setting up the Mac software to print with Airport?i have duplicate posts because when i tried to post the comments on 'question answered', i got a red error message saying i had violated no posting within 30 seconds of the last post. I carefully counted out 30 seconds and then waited some more, but i got the same error when i tried to post it again. so then i clicked on the Reload or Refresh browser button, "are you sure you want to send this page again?" yes. then i tried sending the answer comments again and it posted, a long with two duplicates.
What ever happened to the Edit and Delete post buttons that used to be available on this site, for a short time after posting? -
