Printing with Epson & Canon printers

I’m new to a Mac having been a Windows PC user for years. I certainly like what I've seen so far. Reasonably competent with Photoshop CS3 and have loaded Mac version.
Main printer is Epson R2400 but also use Canon Pixma iP8500 and both worked fine with PC.
I had a number of files set up in a folder on my Windows PC which involve an image of 7.5" x 5.5" centred (on A4 canvas) and then framed by a thin 1px border of 10" x 8". These are for a particular task I perform and they need to be like that. Copied these on to Mac.
When I print out on A4 photo paper on either printer the whole image incl. the border shifts about 0.25" towards one end - i.e. in portrait mode it shifts up the page. Also, the long sides of the border don't appear, but the short sides do. I have reduced the size of the border slightly and all 4 sides then appear which indicates that the printers are not printing up to the edge of the paper which of course they are capable of doing. I sometimes need to print right up to the edges of paper.
Responses from suppliers as follows:
Apple helpline - they said contact to Canon and Epson who can send a download for Mac operation.
Spoke to Epson, they say maybe a download will work (they told me which one) but they say it's to do with the CS3 software. Download had no effect. Not spoken to Canon yet but suspect the same will happen.
Apple store - I go into local store for tuition and one of their people uses same gear as me and doesn't have this problem with it. Suggested uninstalling printers and reinstalling. Tried several times - no joy.
I'm going around in circles here. Solution maybe a blinding flash of the obvious - I hope so.
By the way, in the printer dialogue box that appears as part of the Photoshop printing process I have got "centred" checked.
I realise that Macs will have different screens to PCs but am I missing something here in the Mac print dialogue boxes? My first impression is that there are not as many options there as with PCs but I may be wrong.
Am I right in assuming that this problem is something to do with the way my Mac is working - especially as someone else in the Apple store says there's no problem with his printing on the Epson?
Help please!!
Bob

One simple thing to look for is that sometimes the printer drivers include a "borderless" paper size. Try looking at the paper size settings in the print dialog to see if you're printing on A4 regular, or A4 borderless. Also, I recall with one epson printer, I had to actually add the printer in again as another printer with its "borderless" driver. So if the paper settings don't help, try going into SystemPrefs>Printing&Fax, hitting the + sign to add a printer, find your printer, and see if there's another driver offered that's called something like "borderless".
This assumes of course that you've checked with epson and canon for the most up to date drivers. Check their sites for any updates.

I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to enable wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I’ve used several wireless printers with a 4510 and 5510 Jetpack and they all print just fine. The MHS890L does not support WPS. The WPS Wikipedia article briefly addresses the reason why you should not use WPS.  If you’re having trouble setting up your printer the manufacturer has a toll free support line to help you. Your Jetpack has the Wi-Fi Password on the bottom, under the battery, and or in the LED display.

  • Cd printing with a canon pixma ip4200 + photoshop/illustrator

Sorry if im posting this in the wrong forum.
I just recently bought a canon pixma ip4200 printer mainly for its cd printing function.
the software that comes with it is very basic. I have photoshop and illustrator, but i cant get the print to allign properly through these 2 programs. i can only succesfully print with the canon software.
i was just wondering if anyone here uses the same printer with photoshop/illustrator and can get 100% allignment on the print.
Ive played with the settings within photoshop/illustrator, but i dont want to keep wasting cds trying to perfect it.
failing that, does anyone know of any other good software for cd printing.
i recently installed a demo of Disc Cover from MacWorld magazine, but wouldnt want to commit to buying it until i was certain it worked properly.
    Cheers

You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?

There is also a good appendix on calibration:

  • Printing with EPSON - SRGB

I have been printing in PS for years and now I must admit after being away from it all for a while I am lost......
I started shooting portraits for head shots in SRGB because when they were RGB 1998 the folks who took them to other print shops for duplicates got bad results. At that time I learned that most commercial printers are SRGB shops and I needed to switch.
Now however when I recently shot in srgb and tried to print for myself, shooting a canon 7d in standard mode, srgb, I found a very lackluster color in my headshots....still pretty but not as rich as I expected.....kind of grey.....
Then of course I tried to print on my EPSON 3800 which has always printed dark...After finishing in LR I would always print out of PS, because there have always been a few final touches I want to make.....however, the prints that are pushed to what I would consider the max in LR
as far as brightness is concerned would always need an extra push almost into clipping in PS to get a good print.......
This week I added a Epson Artison 1430 as an extra printer for small work (My Grandchildren 3x5's) and as long as I let the printer manage colors it prints fine, otherwise a bit red....Arrrrggggg!
I really need some help getting things straight so I can get some consistency.....the reading I have always done says NEVER use printer management always use PS to manage colors, and yet I waste 2 prints for every one I get and loads of ink to get a finished product I like, and have for years, I guess I just got used to it.,....Maybe it's an epson plot to sell more ink....
So Color space confuses me, having to push a photo in levels too hot to get a good print frustrates me, and what I really want to do is go back to RGB......
Any suggestions........Use a DEll Ultra Sharp monitor....not calibrated.....

When you installed your Epson drivers they should have also installed the ICC profiles for that printer, in a bunch of different versions for Epson's own paper stock (glossy, photo, matte, etc.). Out of the box LR doesn't list them - in the Lightroom Print module, go down to Print Job, Color Management, and in the profile dropdown choose "Other..." - it'll open your ICC folder and let you activate the Epson-specific ones. Do not choose "managed by printer".
The profiles assume Epson ink and paper - there will be a difference with off-brand paper or off-brand ink. The only way to fix that is to invest in a print profiler unit and make your own ICC files. Paper choice makes more of a difference than people think, especially to dark tones.
The intent (perceptual vs relative) will have a subtle effect on images with vivid colors, but most people won't notice. Pick what you like the look of and stick with it.
Click "Printer..." and then "Properties..." to open the Epson driver panel - on the Advanced tab, choose Color management = ICM then tick "Off" - you don't want the printer making any color adjustments whatsoever, as that's what the ICC profile is doing. For reasons best known to Epson you can only get at this "Off" checkbox in ICM mode.
Printing with that setup will give accurate color rendering, but as elie-d says if your monitor isn't calibrated what you see on screen is likely to have a horrendous color cast, so you're comparing apples and oranges. Even with a calibrated display, you either have to work with your monitor brightness turned down as low as it'll go, or view the prints outside under full sun. Indoors, prints that look OK would have to be much lighter than a calibration would make them.

  • Borderless printing with iPhoto/Canon iP8600?

Does anyone know if it is possible to print borderless photos with iPhoto? I have a new Canon iP8600 that features borderless printing, but I've not been able to get it to work with iPhoto. The paper options for borderless printing are there, but the borderless popup dialog brings up a single greyed out option.
Any ideas from someone who has this printer (or the 8500)?

The post must have expired. Here's a step by step process that works fine with my Canon i850 and Epson R200. It's pretty generic.
    <blockquote?<i>Steps for printing 4 x 6 prints from iPhoto:
    1 - crop the photo to 4 x 6 beforehand in iPhoto.
2 - in Page Setup select your printer, proper page orientation and paper size as 4x6 or 4x6 borderless
3 - click once on the picture you want to print to make sure it's selected.
4 - now click on the Print button in iPhoto.
5 - in the iPhoto print window, select your printer again, select Style = "Standard Prints", Size= 4x6 and click on One photo per page.
    6 - click on the Print button.</block

  • Difficulty  Printing Borderless Prints with Epson C84

When I had an iMac G3 with OS 9.2 and used the Epson menu for printing, I had no difficulty printing 4x6 inch borderless prints (since that is one of the options on the Epson Menu). But now that I am forced to use the OS 10 printing menu, even when I identify the printer as an Epson C84, crop the photos to fit a 4x6 page and show "0" margins on all sides when selecting 4x6 as paper size, using either iPhoto or Photoshop Elements 3.0, the prints come out with a small white border on all four sides. The Apple Menu with Epson as the chosen printer does not give me an option that says "4 x 6 borderless" when choosing the paper size. Is there something I need to set differently in order to get borderless prints?
    hk Jones

I also had a problem finding the "Borderless" option in the print dialogue. Here's what Epson Support told me to do -- It worked perfectly. I can now print borderless from either of the two macs sharing my Epson 1280.
To correct the issue you are experiencing, we will perform a complete
removal of the files and reinstall the driver.

  • Problem printing with Epson 3800 and Photoshop CS5

I came across a problem trying to print with my Epson 3800 in Photoshop CS5.  I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS 5 (and Lightroom 3).  I tried to print using my Epson 3800 with CS5 but could not adjust Print Settings, Color Mamagement, Paper Configuration, Expand Border because those options are unavailable and there is a line crossing through them. I get a message that says "The bundle 'Print Setting' could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture".   It then says to contact the creator listed here for the latest version: PrintSetting version 3.57, Copyright SEIKO EPSON CRP 2001-2006.   I can print through Photoshop CS4 as usual, but CS5 is a problem.  I haven't tried printing though Lightroom 3 yet, and have not typically used Lightroom to print, but I wonder if that will be a problem too?
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

  • Printing with Epson 2880 after Apple Software Update of Epson Drivers

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the loss of "Print Settings and Color Management" controls in the print dialogue when printing from Lightroom or Photoshop after the recent Driver Update (which appeared in Software Update.) Prior to the Update which I had been avoiding until it came down when I updated iTunes (again, Software Update) all print options were available with the Epson software. Oddly, if you elect allowing the printer to control the output the color and color settings are available but if you set the (Lightroom or Photoshop) dialogue to the paper profile then the color and color settings are grayed out. I talked at length with both Epson Tech support and went through the drill of removing and installing the printer and installing the newest drivers (from Epson) and nothing changed. I talked with Apple and again, nothing changed inspite of various adjustments. This is just a little disturbing since I do a considerable amount of photo printing.
Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

I'm going to make an additional comment to my question and that is, strange as the behavior is, this may be a normal function with the update. Although during my roughly hour talk with Epson tech support, the rep was not aware and gave me reason to believe what was (not) happening in the software was in fact wrong. Clearly, the new print dialogue with it's grayed out settings is different from the previous print dialogue and print settings. If you now use a paper profile - regardless of manufacturer - the software assumes you are going to turn off color management - which is absolutely correct. Although I have not tried it, I am led to believe from some material I found deep in Epson's Support, the "color" area in the print dialogue no longer permits electing printing in "advanced" Black and White. More correctly, inorder not to have B&W grayed out you must be using glossy paper and the correct black ink cartridge is in the printer. This isn't a bad idea but sometimes I find the image is better with a Matte paper. Obviously you can, and I have, printed in B&W - you just have to be aware that within the Color settings of the print dialogue you no longer have the "option" to select B&W or advanced B&W. In some strange ways the new dialogue and settings areas of the Apple print menu for the Epson printers is simpler but it does come as a surprise when you first struggle with the changes.

  • Aperture and Printing with a Canon Selphy dye-sub

    Hi everybody,
I want to use my Canon Selphy CP510 (dye-sub) printer for prointing from Aperture. I was used from Photoshop to disable color management in the program, but make use of the color management in the printer driver. The printer driver came without any ICC-profile, but by this way, prints became excellent.
In Aperture the only way seems to be to set (in the Printing Windows) Color Management to "System Managed". By this way, color become dark, dull, and there is also a light color cast.
I found in the web a ICC-profile from am CP330, but nothing changed, when I selected this profile for printing.
Do you have experience with this printer (or any Canon Selphy printers)?
Someone told me to let make a color ICC for this printer by professionals (send a print of a certain color traget to a studio with a special scanner in order to produce a color profile)
    regards,
    Sandro

I would suggest running the ColorSync Utility in Applications/Utilities. Click the Devices toolbar button and click on your printer in the Printers section of the list. That will display what profile the OS is using for the printer. Even if the printer did not come with a profile, the OS will assign a generic profile to it.
Try selecting that profile as the printer profile to use in the Aperture print dialog. I think that might be similar to what you were doing in Photoshop.

  • Trouble Printing with Epson RX700

Loaded 10.6 and new Epson drivers. Rx700 has front and back paper trays. Word and Excel printed to the front try, but Safari would only print to back try, regardless of setting. 10.6.1 allowed me to print to front tray, but it seems like the system default is to the rear, regardless of how setup is set. Even if setup says the front tray is selected, you must still select it again when printing, or documents are sent to back. Epson says it's an Apple issue. Anyone solved this problem?

Same issues here on my MacPro Tower running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Wasted several hours on the phone with Epson. Their tech support for Apple Mac has gone downhill in the past several years. I've owned about FIVE Epson inkjets, so I know. Phone support is outsourced to some other country, after wasting an hour on a horrible connection to who knows where, the level #1 tech support finally gave me tech level #2, who was more aware of the driver issues, to which I suggested they all SHARE their notes so as NOT to waste anyone else's time.
First sign of DUMB, is the supposed "Snow Leopard" combo driver package offered on the Epson site. Listed as 70 mb's, it's less then 50 mb's, misinformation begins. Look closely ALL the packages are simply the drivers and scanner apps from 2-3 years ago, those ones worked under TIGER OS, and are certainly NOT updated for Snow Leopard. Now let's get really DUMB, and when you mount the "combo" disk image, you find a package installer that is a PPC app! The online docs say this updater is for you "INTEL" mac. Granted some PPC apps will run, this one for me was a HUGE problem. Opening multiple windows, unable to even click in the duplicate boxes to type my password to proceed. Why Epson is still using VISE installers that were horrible under OS9, terrible under TIGER, is beyond me. This combo package offers NO choices and begins to install the outdated freebie software from Epson, when what I wanted to do was upgrade the print drivers.
So heres the deal, you can D/L the OLD 3.01 drivers separately from the same site page, but ALL the real print options are "crossed out", which means to me, NOT compatible, and rendering the EXPENSIVE RX700 printer USELESS.
So I ended up downloading the Apple Epson drivers using "Software Update". Now you end up with driver version 8.0.7. This stumped the wonderful Epson support staff, since they said they don't write the "apple epson drivers", but this driver gives you back the drop down for the actual printer settings. And the phone techie ended up putting me on hold about four times, and then said she was told I should stick to that driver by someone higher up in support. Go figure, the Apple driver is better, but the BUG reported here, is making it less then ideal.
If I try to print out a photo in Preview, the printer gives me the error message "No Paper in Back". I have to DELETE the print job and most of the time restart the printer as well. Epson had NO clue about it, and since Snow Leopard has been out for sometime I don't expect much relief, though I do urge folks to call them and report it otherwise we may NEVER see another driver as they are still pushing the several years old ones we had before. Not sure I'll buy anymore Epson printers, they mostly cater to the Windows buyers now, just like Sony. Epson Tech support phone number: 562-276-4382. Good luck to all, we'll need it.

  • Unable to print with my Canon PIXMA IP 4700 and JetDirect network appliance

After many tries I decided to post my question.
I have a Canon PIXMA IP 4700 connected to the network with a Jetdirect 175X box. So I tried to add a new printer with a "HP Jetdirect Socket" port. I have previously installed the driver from the official website. The test page is staying on the spooler.
I also tried with LPD port (supported by the Jetdirect box) and IPP but nothing is working.
When the printer is directly connected with USB, it's working fine. Printing from my others Windows computers is working fine too since many months.
    Thank your for your help.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your problem is being caused by the Canon driver. It cannot be used when the printer is connected to the USB port of a 3rd party print server, or if shared by Windows.
The solution is to use a driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free (it ships with OS X) however the iP4700 is not listed as a supported model. The iP4600 is listed so you could try selecting this model in the Print Using menu (shown as Canon PIXMA iP4600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3). If the iP4600 Gutenprint driver does not work that well then you could look at using [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] which does support the iP4700. It costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so at least you can try it before committing to buying.
Another option would be to use a Airport device, like the Express, instead of the Jetdirect print server. With the printer connected to its USB port you can then use the Canon iP4700 driver on the Mac.

  • How to print with a Canon Compact Photo Printer CP-330?

never found a so hard issue, I'm used to plug&play hardware...
can anyone help me printing from iPhoto or Photoshop to a Canon Compact Photo Printer CP-330?
I tried with Canon's drivers, with Gimp 5, anything... one time the printer started working, then stopped after the first pass (yellow color)... frustrating...
    thanks

    Hi there,
If you have had no luck with the Canon or Gutenprint drivers then you may have a printer problem. Have you been able to print from it using your memory card directly connected?
If you think/know the printer is okay then I would look at the cups error log to determine why the spool is failing. This log is located in the Console application.
