Printing with Laserjet P1005

I have a question about the Laserjet P1005.
Is it normal that this printer doesn't startup automatically when i give a print job.
First i have to turn this printer on.
This is very strange because years ago I had a Laserjet 4L and this printer startup by it own.
I also have a HP Photosmart D5160 and this printer also startup by itself.

Hi @rlp48,
I see by your post that you are getting the error message "set the new toner cartridge" and you have already changed it with a HP toner. I would like to help.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.
Open and close the lid 5 times quickly. It should print out a page with lines on it.
Did it print the self test?
If the self test page printed, clear the Spool folder and restart the Print Spooler and try printing again.

Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?

Have a nice day!

  • ThinClient t5745 unable to print via LaserJet p1005

We just bought a HP ThinClient t5745 at my job to use mainly for printing out some sort of worksheets. We already have a LaserJet p1005 so we wanted to use that as the printer. It is possible in the setup to find the driver for the printer and it is also able to detect whether the printer is on or off BUT it will not print. The ThinClient says it is "processing" and some seconds after it says "online - idle" at the printer's status.
I have tried to print via a network printer we also have (a HP Color LaserJet CM6040 MFP) and it works perfectly. The p1005 do just fine on a Windows computer.
I hope anyone can help me out. Thanks.

  • Very light print with LaserJet Pro CM1415

    Core issue: Almost invisible printing
    Product: LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit (same issue with Windows 7 and Windows Vista Ultimate - all 64-bit)
Replaced all 4 cartridges with brand hew HP cartridges even though old HP ones were not depleated.
Updated all drivers and printer firmware to most current versions.
Ran all HP diagnostics and troubleshooting including cleaning (twice).
Tried adjusting print desity to darker -- no effect at all.
Total pages printed since it was new - 2222
Even tried printing black only with no effect.
Supply status shows all cartidges registered and 100% full.
I read the other forum messages on the same printer and subject and it appears that the problem is very common, and I never was able to find a solution that worked.
This appears to be a problem with the printer itself -- possibly some sort of internal defect. Amusing that it seems to have happened about coincidental with expiration of warranty.
    Is there a solution?

    Hi @TereP,
I see that you are having issues with the print being very light. You already replaced the toners with Genuine HP Toners and still have the same results.  I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue today.
It may be a issue with the fuser or another hardware issue causing this.
I have provided some steps to see if we can determine what the issue is.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Run a cleaning and calibrate the printer:
On the printer touch the Setup icon, System Setup, Print Quality menu, and select the Color Calibration item.
    Select the Calibrate Now option.
Then go to the Setup icon, Service Menu, Cleaning Page.
Print a Diagnostics Page to see if it is a hardware or software issue.
Go to Setup, Reports, Diagnostics Page.
Here is a picture of the Diagnostics Page.
Let me know if there are any issues with the colors printed, the alignment of the L's at the bottom corners of the page and if there are any smudges or blots on the page.
Print the Print Quality Page, it will help determine which toners are causing this issue.
    1. On the product control panel, open the Reports menu.
    2. Select the Print Quality Page item to print it.
    ● If dots or streaks appear in only one of the groups, replace the print cartridge that correlates with
    that group.
    ● If dots appear in more than one group, print a cleaning page. If this does not solve the problem,
determine if the dots are always the same color; for example, if magenta dots appear in all five
color bands. If the dots are all the same color, replace that print cartridge.
I have provided a document to go through the steps to see if this will help resolve this issue.
    Resolving Print Quality Issues.
The diagnostics and the print quality page will help with determining this issue.
Let me know the results please. You may include a screen shot if you like. Visual is always better for determining the issue.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)

  • Can no longer print with Laserjet 1018 under Yosemite (10.10.1)

    Hello all,
I used to be able to use the HP Laserjet 1020 driver from Apple's HP Print Drivers 3.0 kit to print documents on my Laserjet 1018. It worked like a charm. Now that I have done a clean install of Yosemite, updated to 10.10.1, and installed the HP Print Drivers 3.0 package, the documents get sent to the print queue but no documents are printed...
What are my options, short of buying a new printer or downgrading to Mavericks?
I really resent regressions.... especially those you only find out about after the fact.

I just realized I had been trying to use the HP LS 1200 driver for my 1018, while I should have been using the 1022 driver, which is the one that works with the 1018 (since there is no specific driver for 1018).
So now that I have already upgraded to 10.10.1, I'm not sure if the update fixed anything for me or if I was just using the wrong driver from the start.
Anyway, the HP LaserJet 1022 driver works on the 1018 on Yosemite 10.10.1. Confirmed.

  • Duplex printing with HP P1005, how ?

I bought the HP 1005, latest drivers installed. I can not figure out how to print on both sides. I turned on the option, "print on both sides" under word, but after it prints the first side what should I do ? I see that the light is blinking red after it has print the first side.

I suspect that I've had more experience with HP's non-support than you have.
And a look at the specs says that the duplexing on that machine is manual. You've got to flip over the pages yourself. I'd really suggest that you read the manual and that you contact HP support to get further info. Good luck finding someone at HP support who will answer the phone in under a half hour to 45 minutes. And when you get an actual human on the phone, good luck finding one who knows that HP supports Macs. And should you by some miracle locate a customer support agent who not only picks up the phone but knows that HP supports Macs, good luck finding one who will tell you more than what I just did: read the manual.
This is the voice of bitter experience talking. But, hey, you'll learn.
And, no, just because the driver option is there doesn't mean that it's possible. The list of 'features' on HP devices which don't work properly or at all on Macs is lengthy. (Hint: try to scan something on a Mac running Leopard using a HP MFD or scanner built before 2007. Go ahead. Try. I'll wait. I won't hold my breath while waiting, though... There's a reason why my old HP MFD is currently connected to a machine running XP.) But, again, you'll learn.

  • Problem printing with laserjet 3055 AIO

We have 3 or 4 3055 AIOs within our school district, and one is giving us a real headache.  It is constantly asking us to insert pages.  When I went to look at it (I'm a tech at the district), the LCD read READY MANUAL and it was only pulling from the manual feed tray (tray 1).  Manual feed is set to OFF, but it is still trying to pull from manual feed.
I was looking at the other 3055s that we have, and they all have the same settings, so I dont know what might be happening..  None of them show anything in their setups about tray 2, even though they all have a tray 2.  I initially thought that the problem printer just couldn't see tray 2, but they all looked the same way.
My question is, does anyone know how I can set it back to READY AUTO, when manual feed is already OFF?

The Tray 1 (the top small tray) of LJ3055 is a priority input tray, meaning if there're papers in both trays, the printer will pull those in Tray 1 first.
The Tray 2 (the bottom one) is the main input tray. The printer will pull paper from Tray 2 when there's no paper in Tray 1.
The LCD message "Ready Manual/Auto" does not indicate the paper input tray, but indicate the receive fax answer mode. If you want to change it, please go to Menu -> Fax Setup -> Fax Recv. Setup-> Answer Mode.
If you feel this solves your problem, please press the "Solved" button.

  • Cups printing font issue. Laserjet P1005 [SOLVED]

    Hi,
since some weeks I've got the Problem, that the fonts are really screwed up when printing in landscape mode, have a look at this:
    http://piie.net/files/print.jpg
In this case I printed two pages on one paper. When printing it normal it works fine.
    My specs:
    printer:  HP laserjet p1005
    cups up to date
Driver:    HP LaserJet P1005 Foomatic/foo2xqx (recommended) (grayscale, 2-sided printing)
does anybody have an idea how to fix it?
    thanks and kind regards,

    My Solution
There is a patch at the end of this post.
My solution for now is to edit /usr/bin/foo2xqx-wrapper.
    Change line 1:
    FROM : #!/bin/sh
    TO : #!/bin/bash
because the syntax I know is only for bash.
Find these lines near the bottom of the script:
    foo2zjs-pstops $PSTOPS_OPTS | \
    $PREFILTER \
    | ($GS $PAPERSIZE -g$DIM -r$RES $GSDEV $GSOPTS \
    -sOutputFile="|cat 1>&3" $GAMMAFILE -_ >/dev/null) 3>&1 \
    | foo2xqx -r$RES -g$DIM -p$PAPER -m$MEDIA -n$COPIES -d$DUPLEX -s$SOURCE \
    $COLOR $CLIP_UL $CLIP_LR $CLIP_LOG $SAVETONER -T$DENSITY \
    -J "$LPJOB" -U "$USER" \
    $BC $AIB $COLOR2MONO $NOPLANES $EXTRAPAD -D$DEBUG
That's where all the transformations from [text|postscript|image] to printer code happens.
Add this line just above that block:
    ps2ps <(cat) >(cat) | \
ps2ps does not work with pipes, only with command arguments, so I use bash process substitution as a workaround.
    Here is the patch :
    --- /usr/bin/foo2xqx-wrapper
    +++ /usr/bin/foo2xqx-wrapper

  • How do I select two-sided printing on LaserJet Pro 200 Color?

How can I print documents with two-sided printing with LaserJet Pro 200 color printer. I have Mac )S X 10.10 Yosemite.

    Hi @jleo ,
I see that you would like to know how to select the two-sided printing. I would be happy to help you, but I will need some more information.
What is the full name and product number of your printer? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Are you using the Full Feature HP Software and Drivers or the Apple Update drivers?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
Depending which printer you have and what drivers you are using, usually from the application you are printing from, go to File, Print, click on the Layout in the dropdown and you might have one also listed for Manual Duplex option, you should be able to select the two-sided setting there.
