Printing with parallels program

have 2 questions..i just installed parallels with xp pro and i am trying to printing from a program well in xp. my printer is connected with usb and it shows that it is connected through the virtual machine but nothing is printing. how do i do this.
also when i connected a flash drive again it shows that it is connected through the virtual pc but i can't find it in my computer to open and access the files.
thank you i am new to this so any help would be great.

You might want to post on Parallels' support site for more details, but here's what I can tell you:
Shot down Windows, but don't close Parallels. Once the virtual machine has stopped, go to the Edit menu and choose Virtual Machine. There is an option you check in the USB controller section that says "Connect USB devices automatically". That should help, if not, again try the Parallels support site. Cheers!

HP Laserjet 6MP fails to print with parallel-to-USB converter cable

I have a LaserJet 6 MP parallel printer which I was using in 10.3.9 with a parallel-to-USB converter cable. The Printer Utility saw it natively as a USB device and it printed just fine most of the time, although it would occasionally fail to print, so I installed a different driver called usbtb 1.0.15, and after that it printed very reliably.
Now I've upgraded to 10.4.9, and the Printer Utility still detects the HP printer natively as a USB device, and I also installed the formerly-reliable usbtb driver again, but the printer now fails to print with either driver. It acts like it's going to, but then it quits.
When I choose Print, all the features of the printer are shown, and I can select which tray to take paper from etc., and the printer dialogue box says "Printing," the activity light on the printer flashes just as it always does when printing is in progress, but then, instead of printing, the activity light stops flashing and the print job disappears from the dialogue box.
Can anyone tell my why this printer is failing to print now, and how I might be able to get it working again?

Wait a minute! It's only certain Indesign documents that won't print.
All TextEdit docs will print.
I created a few scribbles in Photoshop and they print.
But with InDesign, there is no predicting which documents will print or will not print. On some that will not print, if I remove all but one text box, then they will print. On other documents that do print, if I copy some text off of one that won't print and paste it in, then that one stops printing too.
On some that won't print, if I erase everything on the page and create a new text box and type a few words into it, the page will print. If I revert to the previously saved version, once again the page won't print.
What kind of craziness is this, anyway? It seems random. I can't figure it out.
Even on the documents that won't print, when I try to print them the printer's activity light blinks as though it is just about to print, but then the light goes out without printing.
Anybody got any ideas what this problem is and how to fix it?
All I know is that EVERYTHING printed before I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.9.

Will there be any problems with Parallels Program if I upgrade to Maverick OS?

I have OS 10.7.5 on my intel iMac desktop and MacBook Air with Parallels 9.0.2 running Windows XP. Will there be any problems if I upgrade to Maverick OS? Do I have to do anything special because of the Parallels side when I upgrade?

You shouldn't have any issues, since Parallels v9 is the current version. You might want to visit the Parallels support forums to see if users there are aware of any issues. I know I upgraded my MBP from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and I had no issues with my Parallels v8. A short while after the update to Mavericks, I did upgrade my Parallels to v9, but I wasn't really having any problems on v8 either.

Officejet Pro 8600 Plus prints with some programs, but not others.

I have a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus connected with an Apple Airport Extreme. My iPad and Dell will print without problems. My MacBookPro using OS 10.6.8 will print iPhoto and Excell when using Parallels. It will not print using Appleworks or Office for the Mac. The Mac recognizes the printer and will print the test page. When told to print in Appleworks, the computer says it is printing, but nothing is happening.

I understand you are able to print from an iPad and Dell PC with the Officejet 8600, but unable to from your Mac 10.6.8. Since it will print from the other sources it would appear to me that the printer software is not installed correctly on the Mac.
Try uninstalling the printer software, when you are running the HP Uninstaller, just prior to clicking uninstall I would like you to hold down the Control, Option & Command button then click uninstall.
When ready to install the printer, HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8.

Printing with Parallels

I have Parallels 4 installed on an iMac intel. Both Snow Leopard and Parallels have the most current software and Tools has been installed on the Parallels virtual system. When I was unable to get the printer in my office seen by using the standard installation method in Windows, I used the Bonjour program by Apple. This found the printer immediately (network printer Brother MFC-8840D) but when I try to print to it, I get multiple copies of paper that have the following printed on it:
ERROR NAME;
undefined
COMMAND;
-12345X@PJL
OPERAND STACK;
This prints on page after page until I cancel it.
Any ideas on this would be very much appreciated.

Production Order not printing with Parallel Sequence ?

Hi All,
User is unable to print Prod. Orders when Parallel Sequence is used, but Orders using Standard Sequence are printing fine.
Print is done in Update Task, so User is able to release the Order and when he saves the Order, the Order should get printed.
Currently this is not happening. There is no spool generated.
Can anyone please tell me the printer configuration required for this. Or any other configuration which we are missing.

I'm not sure if this is the issue,at a high level,check if the control key assigned to the operations in the
parallel sequence supports for Printing in General(check box set).

Officejet Pro 251dw won't print with applications inside Parallels 9

I've used HP printers with my Mac computers for years and had no problems, even when I was working with Windows XP and Windows-based applications inside Parallels Desktop on the Mac. All I would have to do to have the Windows-based software capture the printer (connected with a USB cord) was to click on a drop-down menu item under "USB." Recently I upgraded our OS to Mavericks and had to upgrade Parallels from Version 6 to Version 9. A week ago we had to replace our old HP Deskjet 6500 printer, and we chose the Officejet Pro 251dw. We connected the new printer wirelessly to our home network, and we were able to print from both our desktop iMac and our MacBook Pro with no difficulties. But when I needed to print something from PrintMaster 12, a Windows-based desktop publishing program running on Windows XP inside Parallels Desktop 9, the job wouldn't print, and I got a message that the printer wasn't connected. After doing my own troubleshooting, I spent several hours on the phone with Parallels tech support, including having them connect to my computer over LogMeIn and change all sorts of settings, but the best I could get was that the printer queue report said that the job was printing, but the touch screen on the printer flashed rapidly back and forth from "printing" to the date and time, with a large red X next to the date-time read-out, and still no job printed. After having two or three first-level techs and then a second-level engineer working on the setup, the Parallels people finally gave up and said that the problem must be in the settings inside the printer and that we'd have to have someone who works with printers.adjust them. Has anyone out there had this sort of problem working with Parallels Desktop 9 and the Mavericks OS? It wasn't just the desktop publishing software; the same thing happened when the engineer went into the Windows XP printer settings and tried to print a test page.

This is a little outside our area of printing, but I'll try and help you the best I can. My question for you is the printer showing up under the USB menu in Parallels. If it's not showing up then you need to determine why the USB connection isn't showing up in your Parallels USB menu. This could be a couple of issues, but the one that I think might be happening is the version of the USB port your using. Can you verify that you're not connecting the printer via a USB 3.0 port. Try plugging into one of your other USB ports to see if the printer will show up in the parallels USB menu.

You run Windows in Parallels or Fusion. Then in Windows you install the program.

HP laserjet 1200 using windows7, cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter

HP laserjet 1200 using windows7. My computer has USB ports, but no parallel port, so the computer is cabled to the printer with a usb to parallel adapter. Sometimes works fine, sometimes system states printer as ready, but will not print. Reboot hardware and on restart, I got one page to print. Next attempt to print puts the document in cue, but just sits there -- no error message. Finally, after multiple restarts, I got it to print (have no idea how), but now I had to print 20 pages one page at a time. It will not print more than one page, even if I select to print 20. Next time I start the computer I don't know if the printer will print. Do you need to use the same USB port each time, Or are the USB to parallel adapters undependable?

Unfortunately, parallel to USB adapters can be undependable. Other than a new printer, I'm not sure what would provide you with a fix for this problem. You might try another adapter if you have one, but if that still doesn't work I would look into a printer that your computer could support.

I accidentally solved my mystery. For some reason it was set to "print to file". I changed it to "printer" and now I am able to print.

I bought the Officejet 6500A Plus about one month and have experienced the very same problem. I tried to remedy this problem following suggestions in a number of different posts (static IP, router, firewalls etc), all to no avail. Last week I called support. The support I received by the tech over several hours and different days for a week was very good. However none of his suggestions corrected the connection issue. After today's recommended fix failed, he advised HP is aware of this issue with the 6500 and other affected printers. He claimed HP was working on a firmware upgrade. He did not know when the update would be provided. The tech also claimed HP acknowledged this problem in a written announcement. He agreed to email the announcement to me. I haven't received it. This has been the only problem I've had with the 6500

Can't Print from Parallels/Win2K

I have 2 MacBooks, an iBook, and a G4 Desktop. I have a HP Photosmart C3180 USB all-in-one printer connected to the G4. I have Printer Sharing active on the G4, and from any of the laptops, I can print with no problem.
However, on one of the MacBooks, I'm running Parallels and Windows 2000. From this, I CAN'T print. I can "see" the printer if I "add printer" on a TCP/IP port using the IP address of the G4, and I've installed the driver that I downloaded from HP. All seems to be just fine, except that it never prints. I get an error saying there was a printing problem, but it won't tell me what the problem is.
I even tried connecting the printer directly to the MacBook, and doing an "Add Printer" in the W2K using the USB port. Again, it would "see" the printer, but when I try to print, nothing happens. In this case, the print window in W2K SAYS the document printed, but nothing happens at the printer.
I have a couple of programs that are Windows only programs, and the files I need to print out of them can't be saved (if they could, I would just save them, open them in the Mac OS and print that way... but no such luck)
Any idea what I can do to make this work?
