Printout different than print preview - MacBook Pro & HP Photosmart 3310

I am creating photocards on 8 1/2 X 11 photocard paper on HP3310 printer. The goal is to have the photo on the bottom half of the paper with the printout to the edges (borderless); the card is then folded in half. The actual image printed is cropped from what is previewed; typically approx 1/4" inch of the image is gone from the sides and approx 3/4" from the bottom. After reviewing multiple settings with Apple Support they feel it is a print driver issue with HP having preset margins.
I have tried multiple software:
iPhoto - does not crop the photo but it adds a 1/4 inch white margin on the sides (not top and bottom)
Keynote / Pages - prints borderless to the edges of the paper but the image is a cropped version of what is seen in Preview. Margins are set to zero; Paper is 8 1/2 X 11 (tried various custom sizes also); Borderless printing activated
I used this printer, paper and ink combination for three years with Windows PC utilizing both Word and Power Point and never had issues regarding not printing what was previewed.
The only Mac solution found is "trial and error", moving the image up from the bottom to fool the printer; this burns up a lot of paper and ink when you are doing over 200 cards! HP states that there are no preconfigured printer set margins.
If anybody has any ideas on a fix instead of a the permanent need to work around this I would appreciate. The quality of this printer has always been good in the past.
Thx

How much different is it? A minute or two??
Calls are triggered the minute you hit send, not answered. And the same when ending a call. So if off a minute or two for a call that is why.

  • Help installing Brother 4100e printer on MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion

I can't install my Brother 4100e printer on MacBook Pro. It is listed on the support page as a printer that software is available for. I have updated my software. I have done everything that I know to do. When I plug the printer into my computer it downloads the software but then I get a message that it can't install it because the software is not available from Apple. When I try to manually install the printer the message at the bottom of the box is that the software is available but when I try to install I get a box that says software isn't available.
Its probably something simple I am doing wrong but I don't know what it is. I've been a Windows person all my life and got this Mac a couple months ago from my husband as a gift. If I can't print anything.... I am about to throw it out the window and go back to Windows... that's my frustration level.
    Please help.

I would try a couple of things:
Go to Applications --> Utilities and double click on Disk Utility. In there, select your hard disk in the left pane (should appear as Macintosh HD unless it's been changed). Then click on Repair Permissions.  Try connecting the printer again and going to System Preferences --> Printer and Fax and click on the "+" sign and see if your printer shows up in the left pane.  If it does, click on it to select it and add it.
The above assumes the printer is connected via USB, since you didn't say you were trying to connect it wirelessly.
You might also try, if the above doesn't work, rebooting your MacBook Pro and trying again.

  • Xerox 8560DN pauses when printing from MacBook Pro (Maverick update)

Xerox 8560DN pauses when printing from MacBook Pro using the printer connected to a Windows XP machine. The printer is fully shared, however when I print, it goes to PAUSE. It displays...Ready to print > Printing > and it pauses.
The Maverick update has changed lots of unecessary setups. What was perfectly working before, not it causes problems.
    Any solution?

    Carolyn Samit,
I did it several times without any success. I think that the Maverick update damaged something.
I also deleted, added and change all settings... Not working. Xerox does not have a Maverick driver available, but today apple released a Xerox printer software update (Version 2.3). After the installation, nothing changed.

    Cisco:
Very helpful!   My set up was Mac/ Lion trying to Print off a Dell Photo A10 922
Lion does not store any Lexmark, nor dow Apple, but I went to the lexmark site, and found this-
    http://support.lexmark.com/index?productCode=LEXMARK_X5270&page=product&locale=E N&userlocale=EN_US#1
Downloaded that, then hooked up the printer, Cmd-P, and the Mac found the drivers I had loaded.
Works fine.  Now when I go to my sisters, I can print!
byw, I'm probably just a Level 2  "GIYF"er, but your the only one ( of MANY folks) who thought to search Lexmart. I've seen posts by MANY geeks saying a Mac could not print to ANY Dell printer.

  • Reliable, Affordable Printer for Macbook Pro w/ Retina??

I apologize ahead of time if this is being posted in the wrong place, but i'm looking for advice on getting a good printer for my Macbook Pro w/ Retina. I currently have an old Dell 1320c and although it setup fine and prints correctly the toner is now printing in gray and the lack of proper driver support makes troubleshooting the printer very difficult. In light of my recent printer troubles I decided to come here for some printer suggestions. As far as price range, I would like to spend no more than $150 for a new printer but if jumping up to $200 or something close greatly improves the quality, i'm open to more suggestions. This printer would only be used by myself at home and strictly for school assignments like word documents, powerpoints w/ pictures, etc. nothing too intense. I would not be printing actual photos and I don't think I need the speed of a laser printer to be honest. I would like a printer with GOOD support, meaning I can easily replace cartridges and not have to worry about replacing my printer for at least 2 years. Dell cartridges were pretty expensive and a lot of people had the same gray output problem that I experienced before the printer even reached 1000 prints. Regardless, this baby lasted me a good 4-5 years before giving me real trouble so I'm hoping a decent printer won't be hard to find.
My main concern is compatibility! I want a printer that is fully compatible with my macbook pro and allows me to utilize their menu services, easily access printer menus, check ink, etc. After that I just want something reliable and consistent with good product support. I will be using the printer every week during school to print notes and assignments, but not photographs and no need for a scanner. I'm not sure what other information to include but I hope I covered enough to give you guys an idea of what im looking for. Ive had trouble with DELL products in general so maybe just a different brand suggestion would be helpful but thanks ahead of time!
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I don't mind wireless vs. usb as long as theres not much price difference. Also it might be worth noting that the macbook I have has no CD drive so I would want a printer that I can set up without a CD drive, thanks!

I don't have a specific recommendation, but if at all possible you should choose an AirPrint-enabled printer from the (possibly incomplete) list in the linked support article. It will need no software or configuration, and will work with iOS devices.

  • How to print from Macbook Pro on a Cannon MP610 printer?

I have recently bought a Macbook Pro, and I have a wireless network set up at home.
I have no problems connecting to the internet or the network. But I can't seem to access the printer. I have a Cannon MP610 Printer. This printer is connected to the PC, which is connected to the modem. The printer is unable to connect directly into the modem which is unfortunate
It's a fairly big network. We have a master pc that is connected to the modem. This master computer also has a usb printer. We have a secondary pc ethernet linked to the master pc, which can connect to the internet and the printer via the ethernet.
The modem is a Thomson TG782T ADSL.
We have 3 windows O/S laptops, and 2 MAC O/S laptops.. No laptop can access the printer. Only the internet.
Can you access a printer from a laptop through the modem through the master computer the the printer?
The printer is turned on, and the PC is always running. The printer and file sharing is turned on.
What would be the least expensive way I could go about fixing this problem?
I have heard about people downloading Gutenprint; so i downloaded it, but couldn't get it to run.
I have tried many different ways, and after adding a new printer and finding it on the network.. is then says it is in the queue list.. but won't print. It just sits there until you cancel it.
    Thanks in advance
    Jason

    Jason Paige wrote:
How can I use the Gutenprint driver on my Mac? All it does is downloads and installs, but it wont allow me to use it. (Like it doesn't come up under applications or anything).
Installing printers on Mac's is usually a two step process. The first is to install the driver software if it is not on the Mac already and the second is to add the printer queue. OS X 10.6 comes with Gutenprint v5.2.3 already so would be no need to download and install again, unless you customized the OS X installation and selected not to install the printer drivers or you have a model of printer that only a later version of Gutenprint supports. Since your MP610 is listed as a supported model with v5.2.3 then the downloading was probably a waste of your time.
To add the printer when it is shared by Windows you open Print & Fax, select to add ( + ) and then select the Windows icon. This will open a pane showing three columns. The first column is for workgroup names and since you mention you're using XP Home then your workgroup name will be 'mshome'. If your Mac does not see 'mshome' in the first column then we need to look at the IP addresses being used by your computers.
    IP address:121.222.186.51
According to "what is my ip address.com" it says my MacBook Pro and master desktop PC has both the same IP addresses. Is this meant to be correct?
Looking at the IP address listed this is going to be the address of the Thomson router. If all computers were using the same address then this would be a problem but given that you used a web service to tell you the address then this won't be the case.
To see what IP address, subnet mask and gateway address you are have configured, you can use Command Prompt on XP and type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. This will give you a list of all the network settings in the PC. Write these down for later reference.
For the Mac you can open System Preferences > Network and select which port you are using (Ethernet or Airport). Then in the right pane will be the current IP address. To get more information you can press the Advanced button and then select the TCP/IP tab in the next pane.
How do I create a PMB queue? And how do I find out if I can ping the master PC? (what's your definition of ping?)
It's an SMB queue and I suggest that we leave that process for now. Besides you will need to know the IP address of the XP sharing the printer before we can try that process. So let's just try to get the computers appearing in the Windows Add Printer browser and using the Gutenprint driver instead of the Canon.

  • Printing from MacBook Pro to a Printer on Windows XP PC

If I connect my Lexmark X7170 and Kodak EasyShare Photo Printer directly to my Mac it prints fine. When I try to print from the wireless network the Lexmark printer comes up with an error of "printer cartridges in the wrong spot" and the Kodak isn't found.
However, if I print from my mac while in Parallels running Windows XP everything works fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Print from Macbook Pro to HP PSC 1215 all in one on Windows 7

If I print from my new Macbook pro wirelessly to the HP PSC 1215 All in One connected to a USB port  on a Windows 7 PC, the print job appears in the queue on the Windows 7 PC, the printer on/resume light starts to flash, the printer makes a few clicks, but nothing prints.  Apple support say it's the fault of the HP driver. HP support says the printer is more than 5 years old, so tough, buy a new printer.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem without buying a new printer ?

  • Why is my 2008 Macbook faster than my 2012 MacBook Pro?

I got a basic, 13Inch Macbook back in 2008. It has been used, nonstop, for the past almost 5 yrs since i bought it. I never turn it off, it always gets used on a bed/couch, tonnes of windows/programs constantly open. Its full of crappy DLed programs, movies, music and whatnot, has only recently been updated to 10.6 OS X. Its dying, the charger barely works, and it over heats and blacksout sometimes and yet, it runs so much faster than my end of 2012 13in MacBook Pro, 2.9GHz model. Slower to the point that i still use my old one and let Hubby take the new one to the Construction site with him. Ive used it maybe once or twice since i bought it in November. Booting up is slower, general use is slow, opening programs is slower. And its got almost nothing on it!
Just wondering why its slower when its newer and supposedly better? I thought i was upgrading?

Wipe the drive on the new system and Reinstall OS X. Factory installs aren't all they are supposed to be. Sometimes corrupted from the Get Go.
Only by wiping the drive and doing a Fresh Clean Install will you know if your slowness was caused by some type of OS corruption or posibly a hardware problem.
Also you don't mention what RPM the drive is in your older Mac but Apple puts really Slow 5400RMP drives in the newer models by default. These Slow 5400RPM drives will slow down the whole system. Slow to boot. Slow to load programs and files into those programs and slow to save back to the drive. Also OS X is constantly writing to and reading from the hard drive so a slower drive will again slow down the whole system.
If it is less then 14 days old you can return it No Questions Asked for a full refund and then maybe try another, different, machine.

  • Wireless Printing with Macbook Pro Help

I just upgraded from an older G4 desktop to the macbook pro. I have a Canon Pixma 180 printer/scanner. Everything works with the desktop. I think I had a little challenge with the printer driver on the printer but all is good for the desktop.
For the MBP internet access I am using the NetGear RangeMax. It works great.
I would like to get rid of the G4 and just use my MBP. So this weekend I got a Linksys DPR 1260 print server. It says right on the box that its good for Windows and Mac. After I got it home. No instructions. The setup software is all for windows. I called their help line and all I kept getting was "we have a lot of difficulty with Mac's".
They did not know what to do. I know.... I am bring the print server back.
So I thought that I would get Apples Airport Express. But I have been reading lots of comments that this is somewhat problematic??
Does anyone have a good wireless solution to printing? Would it help if I get a different printer?

    Hi Bob,
I have a 9 year old Apple Laserwriter (PS4/12) that is not networkable that I managed to connect via a crossover ethernet cable to my Airport Extreme base station. This is then hooked up to my very old (appletalk) printer via an ethernet/appletalk converter, which you will not need, as your printer is much newer. If you have a USB printer, you may be able to connect it to the Airport Extreme via USB, and it will work, too.
If you can hook up your printer via an ethernet cable to an airport Extreme, you can print wirelessly to the printer. I have been doing this for over 1.5 years, and it has helped me to keep an old, but reliable, printer functioning.
I realized that this is kind of confusing, so here is my configuration:
My cable modem is hooked up to my airport Extreme via an ethernet port (blue cable). My printer is hooked up to my airport Extreme via a crossover ethernet port (i.e. green cable). In order for my computer to "see" the printer, I then made appletalk active from my Airport.
This then lets me print to my printer from either my powerbook G4 or my macbook pro.

  • Wireless Printer not printing from MacBook Pro

I bought a new MacBook Pro, which came with a HP Deskjet 3050 wireless printer.  The printer works ok on my home wireles network.  I can print from all my PCs, but not the Apple stuff.  My MacBook shows the printer on the System Preferences, but shows it not connected.  My IPad does not even show the printer.  How can I get it to work?  P.S.  Apple is reputed to be easy, but it took less than one minute on Windows 7.

You may need to install the latest printer drivers from HP:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Then set up your printer: System Preferences>Print & Scan.

  • HP Envy 120 printer and Macbook Pro won't talk to each other...

    Hi
I have a shiny new printer and a fairly new Macbook Pro and simply cannot get my printer to 'talk' to my Mac.
The printer is connected to our home internet and the Internet report you can print off says everything is fine.
We have done the Apple > Software update etc to make sure the latest drivers etc are installed. (For info, we are on OS X 10.8.5). However, when we then try to print something, it comes up as no printer installed and there is no 'nearby printer' showing, which I believe should be showing there. (We have tried adding manually, too, using various settings and can't do it that way, either.)
When this didn't work, we downloaded the relevant driver from the HP site (to see if this would help, but it didn't).
After downloading the driver, we go through the installation process and what happens is that it doesn't have our printer listed and asks that we connect our printer. When we connect it, it recognises it and we then proceed. It then says your printer is now connected and you may remove your device. When we remove it, it then does not have any device listed and we cannot progress any further. Stuck in an infinite loop...
Also, firewall and security settings are fine.
I've also restored default settings on printer etc and started over a number of times.
Any help would really be appreciated.
