Prints made by LightRoom to dark, made by Windows viewer Ok

I have noticed that the colours of photos, made by using the print option from LightRoom, are much to dark and dull.
And before anyone start thinking of using the right color profile for the printer, read the line below:
When the same picture is opened in the default viewer of Windows Vista and print is pressed, the colours do match the colours of the screen. (± 5%)
- The used picture is a non adjusted RAW picture made by an EOS 5D and TIFF a printer file which is used to calibrate the printer.
- LightRoom version 1.2 (Problem also noticed in 1.0 and 1.1)
- In LightRoom all options to adjust the picture are set to Off
- LightRoom is the colour correction set to be handled by the printer driver
- The printer driver is set to ICM, NO colour correction
- The monitor is calibrated.
- Printer = Epson R2400
So when the picture is printed by LightRoom the colours are much to dark and dull, and when using the simple Windows viewer, the colours of the photos are printed correctly.
Anyone have a suggestions??
Thanks in advantage
Marco

Hello.
I am happy as a child, finally seems to have found a solution on the "dull colors" problem at least for my LR 1.2.
My printouts from my PC (Vista based) LR to my HP all-in-one (network connected) was a disaster. Dark muddy colors. General recomendation was to use "managed by application" option in LR. As no profiles were installed, available from the install CD or from HP I more or less gave up.
I borrowed a laptop (XP) and installed LR and installed drivers for my HP printer. Voila! Fine printouts, not like the ones I get from my Vista based LR. I tried to select "Profile other" (=managed by application) option and suddenly found ICC profiles for my HP printer. I did a test printout using "managed by application" selecting appropriate profiles, with same good result. Looked in Windows/System32.. catalog and found the HP printer profiles. Looked in my Vista and found other profiles but noone for the HP printer.
So, for some reason the HP installation program did not managed to install profiles correctly in Vista. So I copied the profiles from XP to Vista and mapped them in the Vista color management tool to the printer. Now I can select the files in Profile others (=managed by application) and get acceptable prints. After changeing the option in the printer driver to "Managed by application" instead of using Prophoto the result was even better (just as stated in the manual).
Hope this help some of you to solve the "dull color" problem. If anyone of you need profiles for HP 3210 all-in-one pls give me a hint and I will send the profiles to you. If you have suggestions for profile for handling matte paper on HP 3210 I am interested to hear from you.
Good luck.

    Hi ,
I think you have downloaded the program directly from adobe. As you have the Photography plan, then you have to download this from Creative Cloud Desktop then they will be activated through with your email address. Then it will not ask for serial number.

  • How to move photos edited in Lightroom 2 from external hard drive to Lightroom 5 without losing changes/metadata made in Lightroom 2?

I had images processed in Lightroom 2 on an old PC that crashed, but were backed to external hard drive. I now have a Macbook Pro with Lightroom 5. When I import the photos from the hard drive the editing/metadata I added in Lightroom 2 are not there. Is there a way to bring the photos in with the changes made in Lightroom 2 or do I have re-edit the photos? The odd thing is when I go into the folders on the Lacie back-up and open a photo (that I know I edited) into Photoshop CS5 there are no changes.

Yes, that is a backup of your LR2 catalog file. You need to find the most recent one available (obviously, that backup was made on 2013-04-09), and then copy it to a hard drive on your computer (internal or external) but not a network drive, and then open it in Lightroom 5. You should see that all of your photos have a place in the grid, but won't have a thumbnail and there may be a question mark icon on each folder.
To fix the question mark on each folder, please read: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders and then the thumbnails will appear as well

This is very annoying and we need this stopped as we have made no changes to any of the adobe files. Please advise how to do this.

I first tried the version without the deflated stream (so everything uncompressed) against the online repair tool to check/analyse it @ https://www.pdf-tools.com/osa/repair.aspx
And it says no error found, but the reader still want to save it when closing so i still had no clue at this point.
Fortunately, i finally found what was wrong with my generated PDF.
In my xref table, each object reference was not end by a full EOL, i only did put a newline char.
Now i have "carriage return" "newline" which is the full EOL and the reader is happy and close the file silently.
As suspected i did not follow correctly the specs on xref table
Now i'll go and figure what i did wrong with the deflate filter
    Thanks for your help.

    Please help me

    Hi mariad91843143,
To enable the non-destructive workflow and the powerful features of Photoshop CC, the RAW image will need to be opened into Photoshop whilst, in the meantime, keeping our Lightroom changes so that we can work on them later. Instead of using the ‘Edit in Adobe Photoshop’ option in Lightroom – CMD +E (Mac) or CTRL +E (PC) – the option ‘Open as Smart Object in Photoshop’ will be used.
This is a very useful tutorial to understand how to manage the workflow between Photoshop and Lightroom Canon Professional Network - Lightroom & Photoshop CC workflow (Pt. 1): Smart Objects ....

  • Prints exported from Lightroom consistantly 1 stop dark!

I calibrate my monitors regularly and currently have my two monitors set to the absolute lowest brightness point they'll go.
Everything's calibrated and my histograms look good yet, every time I try to send something out for printing, it comes out at least a full stop dark.
Conversely, if I print on my own Canon Pixma printer and allow the "printer to manage colors" - things are spot on.
I don't want to always have to print every little thing at home.  I'd like to send things out sometimes.
I do not have this problem with files exported from Photoshop.  Only files exported from Lightroom.   Yes, I know I can fool around with making a brightness preset but why do I have too??  What is going wrong here?
This is making me crazy.  Help Please!

IF you're working with an outside lab that doesn't supply an ICC profile for soft proofing, you can pretty much forget about getting a match. Further, the lab has to be using that profile (or let you use it) or again, you're dealing with a lab that has a half baked color management workflow. No wonder you are having good luck printing yourself, you're probably doing everything correctly.
That's absolutely right. The only consumer oriented big box local lab I have found that does this correctly is costcos and then I understand you need one where the operators have a clue and not every location is good and keeps their machines consistent. The other labs I mentioned all do a great job color managing and I have never had "too dark" prints. The fact that your own printer works fine makes me think that this is indeed very likely a lab problem (not at all uncommon). I would recommend that you print to your own printer while having Lightroom color manage as you should get better quality in subtle color gradients but only do this if you understand the weird codes Canon uses for their profiles and you understand how to turn off color management in the driver.
That said, you can do a quick sanity check of your calibration by using a printer test file. Andrew has one on his site here that will work fine: http://www.digitaldog.net/tips/  and a nice one from inkjetart can be found here: http://www.kenleegallery.com/images/tech/4800test.jpg
Load these into Lightroom. Do not touch any develop settings and see if the images make sense on screen. Skin color should look great (not too bright), you should see nice saturated colors and no plugged up shadows. Export these files to sRGB jpegs (they are in a different color space as downloaded so you need to convert for most labs) from Lightroom and send those to your lab. If your prints from these testfiles come back dark, stop using them as they don't calibrate their machines correctly. Well-calibrated machines should give very good prints with tone and color very close to what you see in Lightroom. You can get somewhat better results if the lab provides icc profiles but in my experience, if the machines are tuned correctly you will have a hard time distinguishing profiled images from sRGB images if you don't use a good viewing station.

  • Will changes made to the white balance of my .mts files made in Lightroom

Will changes made to the white balance of my .mts files made in Lightroom be transferred with the file when I open in Premier Elements

If the changes have been applied and output as a final file, then yes. But if you're just  editing the file in Lightroom and you haven't saved the finished file, no.

  • Printing RAW in Lightroom

No, this isn't a "can't get a decent print out of Lightroom" post and because of the amount of posts in this regard I haven't got 2 hours to spend searching for an answer to my question - if indeed an answer has already been posted. Please bear with me :-)
Question: In Lightroom it is possible to print directly from the RAW image yes? Now we all know that no printer accepts RAW data it has to be changed into a profile that the printer recognises. Could someone, in simple terms please, explain to me what this process is? To my simple way of thinking, I am editing a RAW image (using ProPhoto) on a calibrated monitor which doesn't show the ProPhoto gamut anyway and then printing to a printer that doesn't accept either RAW data or ProPhoto. So exactly what is happening along the way - is it at all reasonable to expect a print to perfectly represent what one sees on the monitor? If this sounds like a 'no brain' sort of question then I can confirm that I was indeed born without a brain but was more than compensated in other areas :-)

    > is it at all reasonable to expect a print to perfectly represent what one sees on the monitor?
To back away from the previous discussion about the detail and restate something I believe to be true (from an earlier post in another thread):
There's no limit to the brightness of whites that a luminous object (ie a screen) can produce in theory, so you can keep turning it up and up and your pupils shrink to compensate; the result is that you see more and more shadow detail. The bugger is getting the blacks to actually stay black.
Similarly, there's no limit to the number of photons an illuminated object can swallow, reflecting none of them to give a dense black that's blacker than a black thing. The bugger is making it give back the light in the "white" areas, because some of them will always get eaten.
So the short answer for me is that until we start using reflected light to display something (which I'm a bit baffled by as a notion but can imagine that someone will try and invent it since it addresses all these difficulties) then a screen will never match a print becaue the above comments apply to every wavelength (colour) individually and so it's not just about light and dark but colour as well.
Having said that, I do believe with a modicum of effort that it's possible to get usefully close.
But (and it's a big but) although everyone talks about calibrating the monitor (which is very important), hardly anyone mentions having an illuminant that is matched to the monitor calibration - ie having 6500 Kelvin lights under which to view the prints. Expecting a 6500 Kelvin monitor to look the same as prints viewed under tungsten light is madness...but distressingly common.
It's also important not to have the monitor too bright, and so when people say "I don't need 6500 Kelvin lights, my monitor is right next to big bright windows and I check the prints in daylight" it often means they turn their monitor up to stellar brightness to compensate for the ambient light...
At that point, I usually exit the discussion. The truth is that all the information is out there. Don R recommends the Friedl blog (which is excellent). I like the "Real World Colour Management" book. I say either worry about it and learn from people who've thought it through very carefully, or don't worry about it and take what you're given.
There's not really any middle ground, unfortunately.

  • How to change pdf (with dark background) so it print with white background and dark text??

I have lots of nice presentations I am studying- the problem is most of them were made in ppt with dark backgrounds and white text then converted to pdf files. So when I print them, I get a dark (black) background with white text- very annoying. Is there anyway to get it to print with a light (or no) backround with black text? This is much easier for note taking/etc. I have adobe acrobat professional.

Use the rectangle shape tool. Draw a rectangle over the entire frame. In the shape tab, color it whatever you want. Export your TGA sequence.
    Andy
PS: But if you place a colored bkg in your motion project that you will effectively have no alpha channel. Are they referencing the TGA's alpha?

  • A3 printer problems with Lightroom

I use a HP 9800 A3 printer (with latest driver) and have and use a spyderpro for colour profiles. When I print any A4, its grand, either on 600 dpi or 'max quality', but when I print Borderless A3, I get very fine horizontal stripes. Printing from CS2, I have no such problems. It seems almost as if the print output in Lightroom is just not geared for large printing.
Does anybody print to larger formats (A3+, A2...) successfully? - if so, I would assume that its the old supplier points finger at other supplier issue, and I just have to print A3+ from Photoshop - pity, I was trying to stay out of Photoshop as much as possible.

I have printed Super B (Super A3) (13" x 19")a number of times with great results. I am on a pc with XP Pro. I am using a Epson 1280 printer and have printed on both the Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper and Epson ColorLife Paper. I should add that I have custom made profiles for each paper type. My prints were done from a Nikon D200 camera raw file after processed in Lightroom and at 300 dpi. Once again, the prints were just great!!

  • Printer profiles in lightroom

i own an epson 4000 pro printer when i go to the print tab of lightroom i cannot set printer profiles.

I am having great difficulty with printer (Epsom Stylus r320) colour reproduction...what I see on my calibrated screen does not appear true on the printed paper image....I have tried to download various ICC profiles from Epsom but they all (5 of them) give too dark an image...compensating in the develop module sort of helps, but it destroys the whole idea of the WYSIWYG aspect of working in Lightroom....any hints out there for this dilemma?

  • CS4 Printing Problems...too dark

I am having a problem with prints coming out much too dark. I have CS4 on a Windows 7, 64 bit......I have the same problem with either my canon pixma pro 9500 or by epson stylus r2400............
After an hour on the phone with epson I was able to get good prints using lightroom....so...
It is not the printer, not my calibration...the problem is using cs4.
I have gone though all the protocols.....using photoshop to manage color, etc etc..........
Are there any thoughtsd out there? even my epson guy felt the issue must be in cs4 somewhere as I printed fine in lightroom.
    Thanks in advance

I am having the same problem about 50% of the time.

The most immediate thing you need to do is to call your credit card company and report the unauthorized charges. Your card company can contact Apple if they need additional information.
Next, log into your iTunes Store account and see if the purchases are reflected in the Purchase History. If they are, immediately change the password to your iTunes Store account, making sure it's not something easily guessed or looked up. Then go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. Whether or not they'll do anything for you I don't know, particularly if you didn't change the password after your iPod was stolen.
If the charges are not reflected in the Purchase History, then it's most likely a fraudulent charge to your credit card directly rather than an unauthorized purchase through your iTunes Store account in which case it will be up to your bank to handle.

  • Unable to load icm printer profiles in Lightroom 5

I am unable to access correctly loaded RGB printer profiles in Lightroom 5.
In the print module when color management profile "Other" is selected no loaded profiles appear; and Lightroom usually freezes.
Using Photoshop v6 on same computer I can access all loaded printer profiles. I have reloaded LR5.
Does anyone have a solution or work-around for this problem?

The "Include Display Profiles" checkbox is at the bottom of the list that comes up if you click "Other..." in the Lightroom Print Job panel. If this is the point where Lightroom freezes you won't get to it of course. So then the question is what prevents Lightroom from loading that list?  Maybe someone else has suggestions, so hang on for a while.
Anyway, whatever the extension, the point is that the profile in question has to be the correct one for that particular printer/paper/ink combination. Apologies if this is stating the obvious, but you don't really have a choice between several, you just pick the right one. They install with the printer driver and are named for instance "Epson <model> Premium Semigloss" and so on, different profiles for different paper types.
Or you can make your own profiles. I believe the ColorMunki, for one, lets you create printer profiles as well as monitor profiles.
