Prints Sometimes Have 1/4" Wide Faint Line On Left Side?

I've been using an HP C4385 ink jet printer to print my stuff and as a rule the prints are really excellent. In fact, in the old days the only way I would have been able to create prints this good was through the dye transfer process!
Alas, sometimes there is a line about 1/4" wide that runs from the top to the bottom of the print. It is always in the exact same spot, about 2.5" in from the left margin. Most often this problem occurs when I am printing at 8x10". Has anyone experienced a similar problem and if so were they able to determine what was the cause. I've done all the usual alignment/cleaning stuff and the problem persists. Tried calling HP Tech Support but although I've only been using this printer for about 5 weeks the warrantee ran out a few days ago as the printer was purchased more than 1 year ago.
Thanks,
Winston

Thought I would report back that I found out what was causing the stripe problem. A few days after I first noticed the stripe this time round I got an out of ink message from my HP 99 photo cartridge. After I swaped in a new cartridge I tried printing the images that got the stripe again and magic the stripe was gone. Not sure precisely how the low ink results in the stripe but it would appear that that was what was causing the problem...or at least that's what it looks like at this point in time.
All best,
Winston

  • Line on Left SIde and Boxes around Headings in Disco Plus

Anyone have any insight into the issue:
When printing ANY table or Crosstab report from Plus, there is almost always a random line that prints on the left side margin. Also the headings/titles have light gray 'boxes' around them. I have tried ALL of the printing features/settings that are in Plus. I have been through the documentation for 10g (10.1.2.1) Disco Plus and have not found any information that could resolve my issue.
Has anyone experienced this when printing their Disco Plus reports for the following version. This is a major issue for some of out Finance reports as presentation quality is most important aspect of the reporting tool.
    Here is the version info:
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.1)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.48.18)

  • 3 to 4 mm black line on left side

Hi all I have a iMac 20 inch and have a 3 to 4mm black line down the left side of the screen. Could someone tell me if this is a fault or is this common. I have had the mac for 2 weeks and it appeared yesterday.
    Thanks Les

Well, it appeared just as your 14 day return expired, so call Apple under the 1 year warranty. No it is not common or expected.

I bought Lion from App Store recently and installed it successfully on my MBP. After few days when I left my machine running Lion from morning till evening I see a thin green line on the left side of the screen. I tried searching the web and tried few options like restarting the machine, resetting NVRAM and doing Apple hardware test (By pressing D while the machine boots). The Apple hardware test did not detect any problem. The green line still exists.
Please suggest me how to get rid of green line.

    Hi Brent,
I took it to apple service center. They did some checks and found out that the display has gone bad and they replced it with new one.
Did you try connecting other display (may be Apple Display or Dell monitor) using an adapter?  In my case the Apple service center people tried doing it and the display was appearing just fine without any green line. So the fault was in my MBP display.

  • Pink line down left side of screen?

I recently popped an Arch CD into my newly (sort of) built computer and the install went great. I rebooted, and I was presented with a thin pink line down the left side of my screen. What is this thing (sorry for bad quality pictures. I used a phone camera)?
    Close Up:
    Full Shot:
Notice it only appears after the kernel is done and the bootscripts start:
A few months back, I installed Arch on the same machine with no issues. I also installed Gentoo earlier today and configured X on this PC, and there was no pink line. NOTE: This also appears when I boot the latest live cd.
    Kernel: 2.6.33-ARCH
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X1200 onboard
    Monitor connection: HDMI

Maybe a driver problem? You could try an older kernel or the 2.6.34 one in [testing].
I have something similar here on my AppleTV, the whole screen will go pink and then be reset to black during the boot sequence, pretty bizarre, happens with all nVidia GPU drivers (nv, nvidia, nouveau). Not entirely the same thing, but it's pink too...
Yeah what I probably will do is downgrade the kernel to an earlier version, most likely 2.6.32, because that has been known to work for me

  • Horizontal lines on left side of screen

I am getting horizontal lines on the left side of my screen all of a sudden.  Any ideas on how to fix?

move the screen, do the lines change?
take a screenshot. If its not present in the screenshot, its the
    monitor or its feed cable.
if it is, its the logic board.
moving the screen back and forth, if it changes, its the monitor or cable of same or at connection to logic.

  • HP Laserjet 3600 Series Printer with a blank or incorrect colour column down left side of page

Have a HP3600 Series Laserjet that has started to show a definite column (about 1/2" wide) of incorrect colour down the lefthand side of the page. Narrowed it down to the Magenta Cartridge after printing a diagnostics page.  Have replaced the Magenta Cartridge after doing calibrations and diagnostics and have also now replaced the Fuser Kit. Still the same - has anyone any suggestions?

    Hi ProspeorusCE,
The product you have is a commercial printer. I suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.

  • Vertical dotted line along left side of screen

Hey everyone! I have a HP Envy d7 select edition with WIndows 8 OS. Brand new, just purchased last week. It already has a line in the screen and I don't know how to fix it. I'm also unable to access my university's network because it needs a new update (even though I just updated it and it was fine the day before.) WIndows update is not working for me. The program just freezes when I try to check for updates. I noticed the line after this occured. Thanks for any help!

    Hi there @alphy13
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are seeing pixels on one sude of the built in display, and that external monitors connected to the notebook are fine. I am happy to help with this.
Please post the full product number for your notebook. See the following, if you need help with that information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Since the lines do not appear on the external displays, it shows that your notebooks graphic adapter is good, and also your driver. It may be a setting for the resolution of your primary display, but it is more likely that the display is going bad.  But to help determine which it is, take a look at the following pages and see if anything matches, or helps to resolve the issue.

  • I used to have the mailboxes window on my screen (left side) when writing an email. I want it back, but CANNOT figure how to get it back. Please help. Thanks

    Where are the mailboxes???
The opening window has the list of incoming emails. The left column of the page has the Mailbox window with folders. Perfect.
When I click Write - or Reply - or Forward, the window comes up with the write window... and my total address book - but NOT the Mailboxes. It was would come up until last week. And now I can't figure out how to add the mailboxes folder to the write/reply/forward screen.
And from that screen, I cannot get back to the main screen to reference another email. Real hassle. Am sure there is an easy answer. Would live to hear it.

The standard Thunderbird Write window is just that, a composition window. If you turn the Contact Sidebar on by pressing F9 then you can see your address book contacts down the left margin.
If you had anything different it must have been from an add on that you installed. There is no guessing what you did there.

  • Green line on left side of HDV-to-DVD footage

I am editing 1080p30 HDV footage. I get a faint green outline around the frame when I use Compressor to create the DVD M2V file.
This only seems to happen when I use Frame Controls - which I need to use, otherwise the footage comes out full of aliasing. So I need the resize filter.
What is a green edge a symptom of? What am I doing wrong here?

I just got done doing a fresh Snow Leopard install along with the new FCS3. Tonight I finished my first project (HDV 24p) and when I went to run it through compressor to go out to DVD I noticed the same thing.
I feverishly tried exporting with with dozens of different settings combinations. FINALLY, I found turning OFF frame controls fixed it. I'm glad I found the source of the issue but, like you, am a bit upset I can't use frame controls when I want higher quality output for my HDV>SD DVD downconversions.
As bad as this sounds- I hope a lot of people are having this issue that way Apple will acknowledge it and publish a fix.
PS Slightly OT but....I checked Compressor on another machine (latest version that was with FCS2) and it seems Frame Controls were OFF by default. Now they seem to be ON by default.

    • The center Icon is meant to look like the mini-calendar you seek, and clicking on it can enable the Mini-calendars.
    • How many depends on how much room is provided by dragging the "bar with a bubble" above my example mini-calendar upward to make room for one or more.
•Which ones depends on the forward and back arrows to the left and right of the month-name in my example above.

  • How to remove/avoid faint line after dividing objects and recoloring intersection

I created two rings which  should pass through each other similar to the olympic rings.
I recreate the two rings (both objects, filled no stroke) and position them. I  select them both and click divide using the pathfinders tool.
I then change the color of one point of intersection to that of the background ring (in this case from pink to black).
However, as shown in the image below a very faint line is left. This shows up when I create a .pdf file of the ring.
How can I prevent this faint line from showing? Have searched for the answer but can't find it.

Probably just an artifact. But you can select that oath and look at the appearance panel and make sure it only has on fill and no stroke.
Orr you can turn that into alive paint group and use the Live Paint Bucket to fill it with black even though it already is black.
Or you can redo this by creating outlines of the rings as you did before  selecting both outline rings and clicking on the live paint bucket to turn the art into a live paint group and fill the segment with black.
If using CS 5 you might want to hide the original path after using the outline stroke command.
In CS5 when you outline a stroke the original Path is preserved so you either want to use it delete it or turn its visibility off.
This is the result of the live paint group method
