Privacy/Security Issues when calling Geek Squad for repairs

I am extremely concerned about a call I received after scheduling an appt with the Geek Squad last night. I received a call from 800-845-6565 from a VERY persisent person advising that they were from the Geek Squad and that I need to access my computer because they were alerted that my computer had a virus. I told them that I was having TV issues not computers. Again, this person was very persistent about me accessing my computer to which I hung up on them. To my surprise when I googled this "800", the ongoing list of complaints that people have written about regarding receiving these calls and they all have happened after someone has had interaction with the Geek Squad. My greatest concern is, how did this person get my cellphone number from the Geek Squad? This obviously a fradulent business and can only imagine if a naive person would actually believe them and give access to their computer. Makes me wonder how secure all my info is with the Geek Squad. This call literally happened 5 minutes after I hung up with the Geek Squad. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN??? I'm extremely leary now of using the Geek Squad now that I have purchased their 5 year warranty plan.

I can absolutely understand your concern, especially after receiving such a suspicious call right after speaking to Geek Squad. If this happened to me I would feel the same way, especially with the kind of privacy concerns we have in this day in age.
It’s important to understand that reputable tech companies (like Geek Squad, Microsoft, and other recognized and reputable tech companies) will not scan computers remotely without permission from the owner. They will not call computer users unless they are already working with them on a support issue initiated by you. In this case you called us about a TV and not a computer, we would not call you about your computer.
In this instance, you were 100% correct in your handling of the call, and regrettably some people do fall prey to these scams. Privacy/Security Issue with Adobe Flash 10

Not sure if anyone has noticed this or not, but there is a
bizarre (if minor) privacy/security issue with Adobe Flash Player
10. I came across it while attempting to upload a file to Flickr.
Previous versions of AFP do not exhibit this problem.
Specifics: using Firefox 3.x, Vista.
The problem: When Flickr calls the "open file" dialogue in
Flash 10 (in order to upload files) via the "Upload Photos and
Videos" link, at the bottom of the dialogue, to the right of the
"File Name" box, sits a common UI element that brings up a dropdown
menu of what appear to be (or at least are supposed to be) recently
viewed or downloaded or accessed files. Actually I'm not sure how
Flash 10 compiles or accesses this list of files, but at any rate,
a list of files come up.
The problem is that, as far as I can tell, the list of files
that come up reference a long list of files, some that are very old
and that no longer exist, and that there is no way that I can find
to clear the list. This is a minor security/privacy issue, as
generally there should be a way to prevent a dialogue from
displaying a long list of past-accessed files by clearing a cache
somewhere or other -- imagine if it was impossible to clear the
history of a web browser, for example -- this would be considered a
pretty significant privacy issue. I have tried everything from
flushing the browser cache to uninstalling and reinstalling the
browser to uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash to using the
Flash Settings Manager to clear out the Flash saved sites to
turning off Vista indexing to clearing out Vista's Recent Items
list. None of these actions did anything to clear out this list of
files. I can find no references to these files anywhere when I use
Vista Search (with unindexed and system files searched as well),
and I can find no reference to the files anywhere in the registry
(I checked just in case Flash 10 was storing this index in some
really bizarre place.) I've linked to a screenshot below of what
I'm talking about -- most of the files listed below were deleted a
long, long time ago, and so I have no idea why this dialogue refers
to them.

Is there a simple work-around for this that I'm unaware of?
Even if there is, there needs to be some more obvious way to clear
out this list. Where is this information being stored, and what
criteria does this list use to "put a file on the list"?

Thanks for putting me on the right scent. That's what I'd
originally thought, too -- it's just that the file-> open dialog
was giving an entirely different list of files with other
applications, so I assumed that it must be Flash that was the
culprit. Turns out the reason it was different with Flickr was
because it was restricting the file results via a long string of
video and picture filetypes that are compatible with the Flickr
service.
It turns out the information I'm looking for is buried deep
within the registry. The only way to clear out this list of files
is to delete the following key (or specific subkeys):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSavePidl MRU
Seems more than a little stupid to store such information in
the registry if security is your concern. Vista beguiles me
sometimes.

Security issues with calling web services from within Oracle?

I'd like to use a trigger to initiate pushing data to a web service, so I thought we should call the web service from PL/SQL in a DBMS job, or perhaps create a .NET stored proc to call the service. Our DB Lead is concerned about security, since the standard model is for clients to call the database, and not for the database to function as a client.
Does this pose any security risk? Can you refer me to any best practices or articles on this?

First, a trigger is there to for a single sole purpose - guaranteeing the integrity of the data and the transaction. It is not there to interact with external services and processes (like mail, web and other services). Doing that exposes the transaction to those other processes/services. The transaction can now fail. not because of a business rule validation, but because of a network error when the trigger accesses an external service. How on earth can a business transaction fail when the transaction is valid, but a the transaction's trigger hit an external access error!?
And what happens do that event you have fired off in the trigger, when the transaction is rolled back? How do you undo that event you have created in the trigger that was based on uncommitted data?
So using a trigger like this is simply stupid (and yes, I have seen it too often in practice with horrible results to sugarcoat such an idiotic approach).
As for calling a web service from the database, using the database as the client in such a case. This is not a security risk. This is not unusual. In fact, it is very common in my experience. We have a lot of databases, ranging from SE to EE and several RAC clusters. All of them function as a client at some stage during processing. Some use a db link - and as a client fire off a SQL via that db link to a database server to obtain data. Some use ftp and act as a ftp clients, transferring processed data (XML format) to a server. Some call web services to extract data from 3rd party systems to reconcile the differences between local data sets and 3rd party data sets..
This is common between server and server. I do not see anything unusual in the database server using another server (and acting as a client when it does). Security between servers should not be a major problem (in fact, it can easily be done in a very robust way using trusted and encrypted communication).
The problem occurs when a client connects to the server and client and server roles are swapped at some stage (like the server "writing" a file directly to the client's filesystem). This very seldom makes any sense. And this is where authentication and security become an issue.

Issue when calling an external web service - CRM 2013

Hello everyone.
This is my scenario:
I'm doing a real time data integration from CRM to another software. I deployed several plugins, mostly in create/update messages, for the entities i want to sync. The developers of the other software gave me the endpoint of the web service and I created the
client using svcutil. I manually created the binding and gave it to the generated client, along with the endpoint. At the first tests I could sync some registries, but I had some mapping errors. I debugged the plugin, corrected the errors, and when I
want to tests again, the plugin is throwing me an exception when calls any method of the web service. Let me explain the issue:
The exception:
I instantiated the client for the web service (passing to it the binding and the endpoint). And when I'm trying to call any method (ex. Add), it throws the exceptions "InvalidOperationException". I started to debug the code and I notice that
just before to call the web service method, the state of the client stills in "Opening". Of course that is generating the exception.
The complete exception is: "The communication object, System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1[IAxxisWcfServices], cannot be modified while it is in the Opening
state."} System.SystemException {System.InvalidOperationException}
I did a test, outside the CRM environment, on a console app with the same conditions of the web services client (generating with svcutil, manually passing the same binding and endpoint), and the same order of the plugin code, and everything works well; The
state of the client never stills in 'Opening', so I discarded any problem with the web service.
Anyone knows if I'm missing something in the code? or some configuration?
The CRM is 2013 On-premise with last updates.

I tried adding the web reference in a console app and works fine. In the plugins this can't be done, because the plugins are deploy in database.

Utility that we use to consume the Web Service from PL/SQL : JPublisher 10g Release 2 (10.2)

We are using the Oracle built in package called UTL_DBWS to invoke the Java web service. The web service is been called through a Load Balancer called Citrix Netscaler.
Load balancer has been configured to use the Source IP mechanism to route the request to the appropriate web service.
Problem :
When invoking the web service from Pl/SQL (with the below piece of code) there are multiple times the web servers are been called which is supposed to be only once. The number of times the call varies is about to 2 or 3.
Query :
Hence we need to understand in general how the UTL_DBWS works ? Are there any issues when the call being made through the LoadBalancer ?
The default time out value while connecting ? If we want to override the default timeout how we can do that ?

Communication error when calling web service for checkin and checkout files

There are two notes concerning security setting of the SAP Gateway:
1069911 - GW: Changes to the ACL list of the gateway (reginfo)
1480644 - gw/acl_mode versus gw/reg_no_conn_info
Your basis team should check if the Gateway settings allow external programs to register on the gateway.

Error when calling getLocalSocketAddress() on for a newly created socket

I have an issue when using JVM 1.5.0.12 on HP-UX (IA64N):
java.lang.Error: java.net.SocketException: Bad file number (errno:9)

I get this error when I accept a connection from a remote peer and I try to call getLocalSocketAddress() method on the new accepted socket connection object.
Does anyone have an idea about the cause for this error?
I also get 2 other errors but in different places in the code:
1/ java.io.IOException: No buffer space available (errno:233)
     at sun.nio.ch.ServerSocketChannelImpl.accept0(Native Method)
     at sun.nio.ch.ServerSocketChannelImpl.accept(ServerSocketChannelImpl.java:145)
This one I get when my server socket accepts a connection. But even if the connection is accepted succesfully, I might get the "java.lang.Error: java.net.SocketException: Bad file number (errno:9)" when trying to call getLocalSocketAddress()
2/ Once I accept the new connection I call "socketChannel.socket().setTcpNoDelay(true)" but sometimes this fails with a SocketException: Invalid argument (errno:22).
Al the 3 errors are manifesting sporadically and I cannot find the cause.

So bassically when we call selectableChannelListener.close() we indeed close the ServerSocketChannel channel, but we also unregister the Acceptor observer object from NIOCore in order to free memory and set the SAP as available.
The problem is that we cannot reproduce this issue (it reproduces only on our customers environment) and I consider rather risky to remove the selectableChannelListener.close() call.
Actually I would catch the Error and package it in an internal runtime exception:

I know this is silly but at least we can use it as a temporary workaround until these JVM issues are fixed.
Also since socketChannel.socket().getLocalSocketAddress() API call only throws that specific error from time to time, we could implement a retry mechanism. What I mean is to call getLocalSocketAddress() in a while loop and if the call fails with Error just continue to retry...we could provide 3 retries for example. If on the 3 ^rd^ retry the call also fails, just let it be failed and treat it in normal way.

Exception happened when calling deliver API for BI Publisher Bursting

I have developed a BI Publisher report on OBIEE standalone instance (Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.5.0).
I am able to generate the report and burst the output to emails successfully.
But when I tried to burst the output directly to the printer or to save the output FILEs to local machine, am getting the below error/exception.

Issue when using Navigation attributes for filtering in BEX

Hello,
We are encountering an issue when applying filter on Navigation attributes in BEx query built on top of a BW HANA Virtual Provider.
The interface is as below :
HANA Calculation View -> SAP BW 7.4 Virtual InfoCube -> Multiprovider -> BEx Query.
We have directly mapped the base Infoobject from HANA View to BW Virtual Provider and using this in BEx query free characteristics. We also have used the navigational attribute of this Infoobject in our Report variable screen as well as an Auth relevant object.
Eg if ZMATERIAL is the base infoobject and ZMATERIAL__ZXYZ navigational attribute is used in the report variable screen and as Authorization variable.
This is causing the query to fail.
The query also fails if I apply any filter values on any Navigational attribute with error message :
"Termination message sent ERROR DBMAN (305): Error reading the data of InfoProvider"
Using the navigational attribute with authorization variable fails with below :
"Termination message sent ERROR DBMAN (099): Invalid query;Failed to find attribute ZMATERIAL__ZXYZ [...]"
Appreciate any inputs on this issue and how this can be fixed.

Based on the OSS note , it says to import BW7.4 SP7. We are already on BW7.4 SP7
We get error "Termination message sent ERROR DBMAN (099): Invalid query;Failed to find attribute
ZMATERIAL__ZXYZ" whenever we try to apply filters on any of the navigational attribute.

Possible thread issues when calling java from C++/Delphi/C#

Hi,
We have a java API for one of our applications. This API has wrapper API's in C++, Delphi and C#. There are two main top level classes in te API - Client and Receiver. Both haave a receive() method.
We used to ship JRE1.3 with the API installation - this was needed to suport the user applications. Recently we haev moved to java 1.4 as the least suported version.
We have two ways of using the java API in our wrapper API's.
Method one, we instantiate the client, and call client.receive(). There are no threads etc involved here. This is working fine.
In the second method, we set a callback on the client, which starts a thread (in C++/Delphi or C#) which calls receiver.receive() and tries to get the message. This is failing.
It fails at a line which simply says "DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance()".
This call has already been made when connecting the client and it is successful because we can see the client connected.
Whether we do client.receive() or receiver.receive() in a thread, the code passes through this line.But is throwing the exception only when we come to it through a thread.

I managed to solve this - finally!
This is what was the cause in our case - should apply to all situations though.
We had the Xerces classes packaged in a custom jar file along with other XML stuff we have. And this mega-jar was on the class path.
We were running everything on Java 1.3 and it worked fine.
But Java 1.4 wrecked all havoc.
So here is what I did:
1. I tried explicitly doing Class.forName() with the name of the Xerces class that was not found. I did this at the same point in the code where the exception was being thrown.
2. The class was successfully loaded indicating that it was on the class path somewhere.
3. Java 1.4 made some changes in terms of class loaders - so suspecting that, I tried printing out the System and the Context class loaders at the point where the exception was being thrown - the system class loader was a valid object, but context class loader was null
4. We have another point in the code base where the exact same lines were used, and these are getting successfully executed even in the multi threaded situation - this is the start up sequence.
5. I printed the two class loaders at this point - they are both valid objects, no nulls.
With this, I narrowed down the scope and was convinced that the class loaders are the cause.
A search on Google and after looking the the source code for Xerces, we realized that the Xerces API uses the Context Class Loader to resolve and load the DocumentFactoryImpl class - this change is from Java 1.4 onwards.
In our case, the JNI AttachCurrentThread method called from C++/C# and Delphi was attaching the thread to the JVM, but each time the context class loader was null.
We could not find anything on how we could make the method to put a non null context classloader.
So, we changed all our JNI interfaces to do the following

Batch number issue when posting goods receipt for Subcontracting PO

Dear expert,
I always heard there will be issues while posting goods receipt for subcontracting PO. If the component is managered by batch.
No batch number will be proposed during PGR in MIGO...
I dont quite understand where is the issue??
My understanding:
We have batch managered components and End Product. All have batch numbers, then we PGI the stock to 'SC stock' via 541 movement type.
Then Vendor will finish the end product and send us back the end product.
We consumption the components use 543 O movement type? And GR the end product..
So while goods receipt, the sytem just need pick the existing batch number for both components and finish products..
Where are the issues???

You are right!!
Setting of batch number determination has its importance in Mvt Type be it 541, 543....
The issue you might have observed would be with Batch Determination in Goods Issues which folks find it bit tough to achieve n make it work for them.

Security Issues while calling Web Service

I incur the same problem when I place the same file on my
laptop's web-server. Can anyone tell why Flash Runtime could not

I believe this is a security sandbox issue. You will need a
crossdomain.xml file on the server that is serving the webService.
Check the docs, archives, and google for more detail.

Page items are cleared when calling javascript function for a buton.

Can anyone please help me out with this issue.
I have a reports region with some editable items and in which I have a button enter errors which opens up an popup window, but for this button i also have save process which updates the report and also calls the javascript function popup window. The reason I am saving the report is because the values entered by user needs to be updated in the table or otherwise the page will be reloaded clearing all the values entered by the user when i click the button enter errors. One more thing is that I also have two hidden items (P1_LOAN and P1_HERITAGE) in the reports region.
Below is the javascript function which i am calling for the button and also setting the items P2_LOAN_NUMBER,P2_HERITAGE with the values &P1_LOAN.,&P1_HERITAGE.

Issue when calling Stored procedure from application

Dear all,
Oracle DB version: 11.2.0.3
   OS : RHEL 5.9 64-bit version
We are trying to execute one of the stored procedure (belonging to oracle DB schema) from our Dotnet application(recites in application server) but it takes more than 30 seconds to fetch the records. The stored procedure is called from application. When we try the same procedure from SQL developer or TOAD it completes within a second. Could anyone suggest on the issue?
Note: we are calling a remote DB view from our DB.

Issue when Calling the RFC from external system

Hi,
I have created one RFC, in which I am using one function module to get the material customer status.
Functional Module name is "QC01_BATCH_VALUES_READ".
When I run this in SAP, it is giving a value for Cusotmer Status. But when this RFC is called from .Net system it is not returning any value for this field.
Even I used a different function module 'CLAF_CLASSIFICATION_OF_OBJECTS' for the same, in this also in SAP it is doing good, but when it is called from .Net, the program is giving dump.
Please help me to resolve this issue

Hi Ravi,
Issue can be either in the .NET program or in the RFC destination creation.
1)
Check whether data types of .NET program which is calling the SAP function module are correct.
If there are issues with data types, program dont report if you dont so explicitly.
2) Check whether RFC destination you are giving in your .NET program is correctly configured in
SAP , verify by testing the same.
Apart from above two reasons, I dont see any other major reasons for not getting correct results.
