Hi Larakay,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to turn on the option to Limit Ad Tracking, but cannot because it appears to be grayed out. If this is the case, I suggest resetting your iPhone and attempt to turn on the feature after reset. To reset your iPhone, please use the instructions in the attached article.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • Privacy Settings: "Ask websites not to track me"

When you select the "Ask websites not to track me" in the privacy settings of Safari, it states, "Select to ask sites, particularly third parties (including advertisers), not to track you. Some third parties keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. If this option is selected, each time Safari fetches content from a website, Safari adds a request not to track you."
Does anyone know how this "Safari adds a request not to track you" work?  Doesn't it send info about you anyways by having to enabling this feature?  -Do sites have to comply? (Is there law that business have to comply by -if one wants to opt out of being "tracked?")
Is there anyway to test if this actually works?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the link.  Informative.  I figured it was fairly new.  I hope there's more info out there that would explain it more in detail.  For example what info, if any, is my Mac sending requests not to track me on their sites. -And what services would sites need to be running, and if they would have to adhere to any law to comply with such a request.

  • Ads tracking my location despite privacy settings

I noticed that the iAds at the bottom of the AP Mobile news app all seem to know my current location (they show a 'distance to nearest storefront').
I have privacy and location services set so that this should NOT happen.
Settings -> Privacy -> Advertising -> Limit Ad Tracking is ON.
Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Share My Location is OFF.
Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> AP Mobile is Never.
Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services ->
       Location-Based iAds is OFF
       Share My Location is OFF
       Frequent Locations is OFF
       Popular Near Me is OFF
Did I miss some setting so that iAds don't know my location?
Or is my privacy not under my control?
I realize that in general my privacy is NOT under my control (license plate readers, traffic cams, ...),
but if I'm given the choice to limit tracking, it should be honored.

    Hi, Gordonbuckley.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend going through the steps in the article below.  If the issue persists and your device OS is up to date, I would recommend contacting the developer of the app as this will most likely be the best option to resolve this issue.

  • Flickr publishing service and privacy settings

    Hi,
I recently purchased Lightroom 3, and am loving it. I've played around with the Flickr publishing service, and it seems that at the moment there is a limitation in that it is not possible to specify permissions for individual photos, but rather, an overall choice for the publishing service. I usually upload an album with restrictive permissions then make some of the photos public, so I was wondering whether if I upload an album via Lightroom 3 with permissions set to 'Private', and I change the permissions on the flickr website to 'Public', then if in future I re-upload the image after modifying it, will the permissions be reset to 'Private', or will Lightroom respect any privacy settings set directly on Flickr?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Thomas

I don't know the answer to your specific scenario - my simple advice is "try it".
But I do have an alternate idea if you try it and find that it doesn't work as you expect.
I have 2 publish services both based on the Flickr plugin. (You can add additional ones by right-clicking on the existing Flickr publish service, and choosing [Add Another Publish Service via "Flickr"]
One's set up to upload as public, the other is set to upload as private.  Under these 2 publish services I have my various photosets (public & private).
You can also use this method to support multiple Flickr accounts (family vs. business, etc)

  • Clarification on different Safari privacy settings

Recently I was reviewing the different privacy settings in Safari and between web searches and the help file I wasn't able to find the difference between these two settings.
    Allow from current website only
    and
    Allow from websites I visit
I tried both settings out and visited the same websites and it appears to track/add the same cookies.
I was hoping someone could shed some light on the differences between these two options.
    Thanks

    Hey there jnepp,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I see that you’ve already searched Help, but I’d like to share this section of Safari Help in case you haven’t already seen it. The information on the webpage below should clarify the differences between those privacy settings in Safari.
    Manage cookies and website data
Allow from current website only: Safari accepts cookies and website data only from the website you’re currently visiting. Websites often have embedded content from other sources. Safari does not allow these third parties to store or access cookies or other data.
Allow from websites I visit: Safari accepts cookies and website data only from websites you visit. Safari uses your existing cookies to determine whether you have visited a website before. Selecting this option helps prevent websites that have embedded content in other websites you browse from storing cookies and data on your Mac.
    Cheers,
    -Jason

  • My facebook profile photo shows up on an email to a friend who has a yahoo email address, but is not my Facebook friend. All my FB privacy settings are at the max. Is this a Yahoo privacy issue? I don't want my photo to go to other than FB friends.

I recently sent an email to a friend, who is NOT a Facebook friend, who has a yahoo email account, and my Facebook profile picture appeared next to the email. My privacy settings on FB only allow FB friends to see my photo. Why is another yahoo account that is not a FB friend seeing my profile photo and is there a Yahoo privacy setting that will eliminate this from happening? Thank you.

Did you check that your Facebook settings haven't changed?
Facebook may have changed them as part of a software update.
Is there a link in that email (signature) with a link to that picture?
Try to send an email to yourself.

  • Firefox will not open now - I just updated my privacy settings, and cleared cookies - what happened?

I changed the privacy settings on Firefox preferences, including clearing cookies, history and cache, and now Firefox will not open at all. It said it had to restart after one of the privacy changes, but it didn't and now won't open by the dock icon or thru applications. What happened, and how can I correct the issue to start using Firefox again? Thanks.

  • I have an iphone5 and no apps can access my camera roll. When i go to privacy settings there is no option to turn it on. How do I get these apps to access my camera roll? I have tried deleting and reinstalling the apps.

I have a new iPhone 5. I am trying to get apps like instagram, facebook etc to upload pictures from my camera roll. When i try to get a picture from the camera roll it instructs me to go to settings - privacy - photos and turn access on. When I do this, there is no option to turn it on. All i get is a screen saying "apps that have requested access to your photos will appear here". NO APPS APPEAR HERE. When I go to instagram I get the message "this app does not have access to your photos. You can enable access in Privacy Settings." I CAN'T enable it in Privacy Settings. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it and it didnt work. Please help! Much appreciated.

I'm also on iPhone 4, iOS 6, and have exactly the same problem. I've tried resetting privacy settings, turning restrictions on and off, deleting and reinstalling apps. Nothing seems to work. The lists of apps in privacy settings are all empty, except for location services. When using Tweetbot the app is regularly asking for permission to access my twitter account, but even when I allow that, the app doesn't show in privacy settings. When I try to go into the camera roll from the Facebook app, the app tells me I have to allow access to the camera roll from the privacy settings - which I can't do since the app is not listed there.

  • Privacy settings not working for me

Hi, I'm Jan and this is more or less my rage.
I THOUGHT Skype had privacy settings, cause I wanted to change some today and I went to check profile settings on my desktop software and show full profile and suddenly at the right edge I see the bane of my existance when privacy is considered. ALMOST EVERYTHING IS GREYED OUT AND SET TO PUBLIC! ARE YOU FREAKING MENTAL?! I'd like most of my info set to contacts only, thankyouverymuch. SO WHAT?! If I want to hide who I am until I am certain I want to tell somebody that information, I should commit identity fraud and FAKE ALL OF MY INFO?! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN CONSIDER DOING IT?! IS OUR PRIVACY WORTH ANYTHING TO US?! I realize that Skype has been through the gutter since it got bought out by Microsoft, but really? You can't manage not showing certain information? EVEN FACEBOOK WHO OWNS ALL THE INFO I PUT ON THERE HAS A "HIDE YOUR INFORMATION TO NON-FRIENDS" SETTING!!! I have a feeling I'll be searching for a new IM and net-calling provider soon, if this doesn't get fixed...
To be honest, I've been patient with every crash, every freeze, every update that looked more hideous than the previous, but this is the last straw.

Thanks for reply. Have done this already. Been spending 48 hours solving all the hardware issues that iOS 7 has caused. I have hardware issues that I never had before update. Had my beef with apple customer service that resulted in Apple being very keen on charging me £200+ for fixing iPad or advising me to buy anew iPad.
Result is that microphone is dead since update after resetting to factory setting 3 times!
Xmas will buy a nexus or samsung, fed up with the bad customer service, the poor software updates, 2 years for a £500 iPad is a bad return on money.
    Apple take note!

  • How do I know if private browsing is working? The purple mask does not appear when I click the mask icon. In my privacy settings "Never Remember" is selected.

I'm trying to confirm private browsing is working. Right now I have no way of knowing if it is on or not. The purple mask ,referred to in help, does not appear when selected. I should say in my privacy settings, I have selected "Never Remember" for history.

Do you mean you have checked the box: "Always use private browsing mode"? If so, it's intentional that the private browsing icon isn't displayed as we didn't want Firefox to be showing everyone within view that you're using private browsing mode IIRC.
There are some easy things you can do to confirm that you are in private browsing mode such as visiting a new website and then confirming it doesn't appear in the history window.

  • Adobe connect add in not showing up in Privacy Settings Mac OS X Yosemite

When I try to share a screen, I am told to click the ENABLE button. I'm taken to System Preferences where I navigate to the Privacy Settings, Accessibility, and I'm instructed to enable adobeconnectaddin.  The problem is, adobeconnectaddin is not showing up in this window. I see Skype, which is not enabled, and that's all I see.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

As of March 9th, Mac OSX 10.10 will be supported.

  • Apps not showing up in privacy settings, Skype not working

Skype was working okay, but today, when I tried to call someone from my phone, it said i had to allow skype to use the mic, but I had already done that. I still went to privacy settings, but no apps showed up there. But on the camera, while I had multiple apps that use it, none showed up either. In fact, tthe only privacy setting working right was location services!
