Privacy Settings on profile details

I was looking at my profile and I noticed that my date of birth is set to public... I do not want my date of birth viewable to the public, only to my skype contacts.  How do I change this as I can not see any way to do that.
Thanks
Diane

in most cases, you just need to change the values to 'blank'.  there is no option yet to change the visibility of DOB in most Skype versions.

  • My facebook profile photo shows up on an email to a friend who has a yahoo email address, but is not my Facebook friend. All my FB privacy settings are at the max. Is this a Yahoo privacy issue? I don't want my photo to go to other than FB friends.

I recently sent an email to a friend, who is NOT a Facebook friend, who has a yahoo email account, and my Facebook profile picture appeared next to the email. My privacy settings on FB only allow FB friends to see my photo. Why is another yahoo account that is not a FB friend seeing my profile photo and is there a Yahoo privacy setting that will eliminate this from happening? Thank you.

Did you check that your Facebook settings haven't changed?
Facebook may have changed them as part of a software update.
Is there a link in that email (signature) with a link to that picture?
Try to send an email to yourself.

  • Editing community profile info and privacy settings

I would like to change the first/last name on my community profile (the name that shows up here).  I made the mistake of not entering a coded name.  Gives scammers TMI!  Community profile updates allow changing or hiding everything but that information.

To edit your profile, click the down-arrow tab next to your name at the top-right of your screen. In the menu, you'll see "Edit profile and privacy" From this screen, you will be able to edit your information.
Please note that you are in full control of how your information appears. On the "Edit Profile" screen, you'll see a tab for "Privacy Settings". Click to the privacy settings tab, and from there, you can choose who is able to see your name and other info. You can choose to set these fields as visible to only yourself, if you so choose.

  • Privacy settings not working for me

Hi, I'm Jan and this is more or less my rage.
I THOUGHT Skype had privacy settings, cause I wanted to change some today and I went to check profile settings on my desktop software and show full profile and suddenly at the right edge I see the bane of my existance when privacy is considered. ALMOST EVERYTHING IS GREYED OUT AND SET TO PUBLIC! ARE YOU FREAKING MENTAL?! I'd like most of my info set to contacts only, thankyouverymuch. SO WHAT?! If I want to hide who I am until I am certain I want to tell somebody that information, I should commit identity fraud and FAKE ALL OF MY INFO?! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN CONSIDER DOING IT?! IS OUR PRIVACY WORTH ANYTHING TO US?! I realize that Skype has been through the gutter since it got bought out by Microsoft, but really? You can't manage not showing certain information? EVEN FACEBOOK WHO OWNS ALL THE INFO I PUT ON THERE HAS A "HIDE YOUR INFORMATION TO NON-FRIENDS" SETTING!!! I have a feeling I'll be searching for a new IM and net-calling provider soon, if this doesn't get fixed...
To be honest, I've been patient with every crash, every freeze, every update that looked more hideous than the previous, but this is the last straw.

Thanks for reply. Have done this already. Been spending 48 hours solving all the hardware issues that iOS 7 has caused. I have hardware issues that I never had before update. Had my beef with apple customer service that resulted in Apple being very keen on charging me £200+ for fixing iPad or advising me to buy anew iPad.
Result is that microphone is dead since update after resetting to factory setting 3 times!
Xmas will buy a nexus or samsung, fed up with the bad customer service, the poor software updates, 2 years for a £500 iPad is a bad return on money.
    Apple take note!

  • After upgrading to FF 7. When I change my Privacy settings to Use custom settings and check ok, the changes are not saved.

    Using Win 7 sp1
    FireFox 7.0.1
In Privacy Settings: When I change the FireFox will: to "use custom settings for history" and check ok, the setting isn't saved. After I close, then reopen the Privacy Settings tab, the setting for FireFox will: is back to "remember history"
    Thank you

  • Everytime I change my privacy settings, it never stays which is an issue because I can't use Gmail since my cookie settings never stay on.

I only want to use Firefox, but for the longest time I've had to keep Chrome as a backup browser because that is the only way I can view my gmail account. I want to view it on Firefox, but a cookies issue won't let me. Every time I go into my privacy settings and change it to custom, it never stays. I will change it, and immediately go back to the privacy settings and notice that my last changes haven't been saved. I reset my Firefox to factory settings, as well as started my Firefox in safe mode and tried to see if add-ons would be causing an issue (they weren't, as add-ons are disabled in safe mode and gmail still wouldn't let me in...). How can I make my privacy settings stay permanently to my custom settings please? I would very much like to get rid of chrome and only use Firefox.

  • Need to run 2 versions of FF, diferent privacy settings

I have FF12 and it is set up the way I want it to so I feel that my anonymity is protected. Problem is now I am starting to do research and I need to have different privacy settings.
Is there a way to run 2 versions of FF AND have different privacy settings and different add ons?
I will be doing this with a laptop more often (mac) and will not have an external drive available and I do not want to partition the HDD.
    Thanks for any help

Not sure how to explain how, or why this has worked, it just does and therefore I am happy. I followed what Tyler said to do to get a new profile. Easy enough. I now have a "default" and a "research" profile.
Next I wanted to work out how to do what cor-el had mentioned, having 2 different versions of FF and each having their own profile. A lot harder. I used the command
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "My Profile" -no-remote,
with changes of course, as I am on a mac and not a windoze. Nothing worked and Terminal bashed every time I tried to do something. Thus I installed version 11 after renaming FF to FF1. With FF11 loaded and in applications I renamed it to ff-p and drug it to the dock. Opening both FF 11 and 12 gave me the default profile so I had to go back and uncheck the ask at start up. Once I did this I was able to open 12 with the default and had no problems. I opened the 11 with the research profile and it started as I had no other FF and it had never been opened. So I took a chance and updated it to 12 for security. Restarted it and the same great new page came up!!
I got a couple of add ons and should be fine.
You both introduced me to great websites/pages and they helped me understand many things. It was more difficult to implement what cor-el showed me simply because I have a mac and most of that is for the other platform. But I am able to open and use ''both'' FFs and have a different profile associated with both. I now hope this allows me to do what I am wanting to do. Tomorrow will be the real test!!

  • Privacy Settings: "Ask websites not to track me"

When you select the "Ask websites not to track me" in the privacy settings of Safari, it states, "Select to ask sites, particularly third parties (including advertisers), not to track you. Some third parties keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. If this option is selected, each time Safari fetches content from a website, Safari adds a request not to track you."
Does anyone know how this "Safari adds a request not to track you" work?  Doesn't it send info about you anyways by having to enabling this feature?  -Do sites have to comply? (Is there law that business have to comply by -if one wants to opt out of being "tracked?")
Is there anyway to test if this actually works?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the link.  Informative.  I figured it was fairly new.  I hope there's more info out there that would explain it more in detail.  For example what info, if any, is my Mac sending requests not to track me on their sites. -And what services would sites need to be running, and if they would have to adhere to any law to comply with such a request.

  • Forum privacy settings won't stick

I like to have my email address visible to registered users.
With the old forum, that worked.
With the new software, I go to my Profile, click on Edit forums profile & privacy, choose Privacy Settings, and set profile field Email as visible to Registered Users.
Click Save. Logout. Log back in, check the field, and it has reverted to Yourself.
What gives? Why can't I make my email address visible?
I'm not worried about spam, I get so much that there's no danger of it becoming measurably greater.
Does this work for anyone else?
    Thanks!

Email address is reset to "Yourself" for me as well whenever I log in to the forums.

  • Privacy settings failure

i have all my privacy settings to "contacts only" and yet i'm still getting random messages from random strangers asking to chat. it's really annoying! it's happened before.  can anyone tell me how to fix it for good?
    i'm on mac, version 5.2.0.1523
    cheers!

I doubt that I could add anything superior to that offered by TheUberOverlord, however in support of your frustration, I and all of the Skype users whom I support have our profiles locked down for privacy, and we all still intermittently receive unwelcome "friend" requests.  Some of these are lewd and go beyond "I thought you looked interesting" requests.   We all have different MS Win computer configurations and use different editions of Skype, mine being the newest and kept most up-to-date.  I, too, would like to know from where these things originate so I could stop them.
Remember also to make sure the privacy settings in your profile aren't clicked -
    - to allow your online status to be shown on the web,
    - to accept Skype browser cookies, or
    - to allow Skype to use non-personally identifiable info about you when serving 3rd party ads.
That said, it has not stopped the roque friend requests from appearing!  All we seem to be able to do is block the unwanted user and click on Report Abuse.

  • Set advanced IMAP settings with profile manager?

I've finally gotten profile manager working successfully so that my employees can enroll their iOS devices and laptops for easy setup of our company services. However, there are two advanced IMAP settings we need to manage that are not available in the Profile Manager controls.
Is there a way to crack open a profile source and add in the keys for advanced IMAP settings? Specifically, i need to set "Remove Deleted Messages" to "Never" and assign an alternate mailbox for "Deleted Mailbox" under "Mailbox Behaviors"
Thanks for any help or advice!

While I was not at the time trying to do it via Profile Manager I did previously look at trying to enable Location Services via a script. Unfortunately I found it too hard or more accurately I failed to do this. I ended up 'cheating' by logging in on a test Mac, manually setting up Locations Services the way I wanted including most importantly setting the Security & Privacy settings to allow a specific application to use Location Services. I then saved a copy of the relevant configuration file which is -
    /private/var/db/locationd/clients.plist
I then as part of my DeployStudio workflow to image fresh computers included a step to copy this to the correct location on the fresh computer, thereby 'restoring' the settings.
So the short answer is that /private/var/db/locationd/clients.plist is the file but the structure is such that a simple defaults write is not possible.
Let me know if you get anywhere with this.

  • USEless privacy settings?

Please Skype FIX your privacy settings so that the user account settings MEAN SOMETHING.  I have all of my Privacy Settings, inlcuding Advanced options set to allow only contact from my Contact List.  Every single time I log on, I get contact 'invitations' from random men.  Besides being violating, creepy, and an annoyance I have to deal with EACH time by hitting Block/Report - this does NOT engender a feeling of confidence in your users with regard to the rest of your Security Protocols.  If we can't trust Skype to honor our settings and protect our privacy in this, the SIMPLEST of filters, how possibly can we believe that you have our true, personal, account deals protected?  This is RIDICULOUS and I work in the high tech/security field.  Unfortunately, from what I've seen online and heard from friends, it is overwhelmingly female users who are having to deal with this issue from unwanted male fly-bys.  I do not have a profile picture posted, I have NO personal data on my account.  The only thing these guys are using as a filter is my name, "Linda".  COME ONE SKYPE!! GET WITH THE PROGRAM.  Do I actually have to change my name to a male name to make this stop?  This is absolutely unacceptable.  I recently was able to get my 75-year old mother to learn to use Skype, and guess what??

I fully agree and Skype is violating its contract with the user when it allows unidentified users to gain access to you past the securities settings you have put into place.  I actually called Skype about this and the outsourced company in India told me there was nothing they could do about it.  There is nothing they will or want to do about it.  I'm afraid, as a paying customer for a Skype phone number, these unconscionable responses and lack of care toward their customers will require a Class Action Law Suit that we would obviously win because Skype is not honoring the settings they offer to maintain privacy.  Short of profanity, there are no words for this non-chalant behavior Skype is demonstrating.  I'm a Diplomat in the Foreign Service and travel extensively overseas for my job.  I use this service to stay in touch with my friends and family in the States.  I am also an IMTS -- IT technician for the Foreign Service --and understand the vital importance of being able to maintain what little privacy we have left on the internet these days.  Skype's blatant disregard for customer privacy concerns and of customer complaints is egregious beyond words and--in this day and age--completely unacceptable.  The only way to make them actually step up and make the necessary changes to accommodate the privacy needs of their customers is to make this a big story in the media and throw in a Class Action law suit to push them from the financial end.  That's the only way you're going to see any changes brought about by this company.  They've clearly demonstrated they don't care and they're not going to spend the money to change it.  It's on us, folks, to step it up and force their hand.  That's all I can say, and it's just plain stupid that they just don't give a rat's behind.  So, the next steps are on us, because that's as far as this is going to go from the Skype side.

Are these 3rd party apps compatible w/Yosemite?  You can check on the RoaringApps website if you are not sure.  You can also contact the 3rd party manufacturers.  Or since you are still under warranty, call Apple tech support.

  • Firefox will not open now - I just updated my privacy settings, and cleared cookies - what happened?

I changed the privacy settings on Firefox preferences, including clearing cookies, history and cache, and now Firefox will not open at all. It said it had to restart after one of the privacy changes, but it didn't and now won't open by the dock icon or thru applications. What happened, and how can I correct the issue to start using Firefox again? Thanks.
