Hello Etienner33,
the Apple Support Communities are user-to-user forums, Apple employees read them, but we couldn't submit user inquiries.
Unfortunately, there is no other solution as like you are doing it since 2007 with choosing the folder before adding a new contact.
Best regards,
David

  • Third party application can list contacts from shared contacts folder, but not retrieve

    I am working with a third party developer on a problem occurring in their application.<o:p></o:p>
    The software displays the contact list and retrieves a fax number from Outlook. I wish to
    return a number from an Outlook Shared Contacts Folder.
    This works well under Windows 7 with Outlook 2013 in cached mode..<o:p></o:p>
    Running the same software in a terminal services window on a Remote Desktop Server running
    Server 2008 R2 with Outlook in Online mode an error is produced when trying to
    do the same. The contact list is shown, but when the code tries to retrieve the
    displayed record there is the following error:<o:p></o:p>
    x664bc8bcf689f252.x36f18e7b3c08fff5()
    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040201): The operation failed.

    If I open Outlook myself first, browse to People and click on the Shared Contacts Folder,
    then run the application, there is no error and everything works fine. It is as
    if starting Outlook from code is not loading all contact folder information.<o:p></o:p>
    Have you any suggestions on what may be causing this to happen and if I can do anything to cure this?<o:p></o:p>

    Sorry to be away from this for so long.
    It looks like Outlook is not initializing shared folders when it starts.
    I confirmed this using the following code for the Outlook startup event:
    Private Sub Application_Startup()
        Dim olApp As Outlook.Application
        Dim nspNameSpace As Outlook.NameSpace
        Dim objTempFolder As Outlook.MAPIFolder
        Set olApp = ThisOutlookSession.Application
        Set nspNameSpace = olApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
        For Each objTempFolder In nspNameSpace.Folders
        Next objTempFolder
    End Sub
    With this in place I do not need to go to People and click the shared folder, and the third party app has no problems retrieving.
    The third party app starts Outlook itself if it is not already running. In this scenario no events fire.
    So the question is: Is there a means of executing this code when the third party app starts Outlook?

  • Importing a contact folder from external hard drive onto new iphone

    It is kind of a long story...my mom was updating iphone on computer when computer crashed. iphone crashed. had friend move all info from crashed computer onto external hard drive. got new iphone.
    so, she no longer has a computer and we have to share mine. she has her own itunes on an external drive and i have my own itunes on another hard drive. i got almost everything except the contacts moved back on her phone. i see the folder and contacts in a 'contact' folder on the external hard drive, but how do I move that to the new iphone without it being in outlook/google/yahoo. i tried 'adding folder' to the library containing the contacts, but that didn't work.
    any suggestions? thanks!!!

    thanks for the advise about the two users. so, i did that. but, now cannot seem to import the contact folder into the Address Book. the files in the 'contact'-hard drive are called CONTACT files (.contact). i don't know what that means. can i open those in the address book?

  • 'Contacts' folder with sub folder cannot be removed after synching via iTunes

    'Contacts' folder with sub folder cannot be removed after synching via iTunes
    I am trying to remove a 'Contacts' subfolder
    ie Contacts < default folder
    - Contacts Mysubfolder 1 < Trying to remove this subfolder folder
    via my microsoft outlook onto my iPhone.
    Despite not having 'Contacts Mysubfolder 1' on my PC's outlook after deleting it, it does not delete the subfolder in my iPhone.
    I even restored my iPhone settings to the original via iTunes.
    I also replaced my physical iPhone but still synching with my original Apple ID + iTunes on the same desktop.
    All I did was after replacement of my iP, i setup my microsoft Exchange account, and there it was, the Contacts subfolder which is no longer around, appears on my iPhone contacts folder list.
    My outlook is on Microsoft exchange and I am on iP 3Gs
    Please help
    Thank you

    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
    If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
    If you still have no luck try reinstalling iTunes 12.0, links in the user tip.

  • How can I set up a second Contacts folder on my IPhone

    I have an Iphone and a Palm Pilot.  I want to stop carring the Palm, and have the contacts there put on the IPhone.
    I came upon Plaxo, which would allow me to sync from desktops and laptops to the net, as well as syncing with my IPhone.
    However, it appears that Plaxo will sync with the IPhone Contact folder, then wipe out the subset of numbers I keep there.  I want to keep the contacts separate - especially because of the ringer tone controls.
    Is there a way to create a second contact folder that I can sync with Plaxo, which will keep separate the current IPhone contacts in my existing Contacts folder?
    My existing contacts folder was created, in a way I which I knew, when I got the phone.  It is a 3G, using 4.2.1 (8C148)..

    If I can not set up a second Contacts folder, does anybody have an alternative way of having contact information that a person could see the information from an Outlook Format available for viewing?

  • How do I get my new contacts to the contacts folder connected to Icloud?

    When I add new Contacts on my PC, they go to a Contact folder that is not connected to Icloud. It is a Contact folder under "My Contacts". I have to move them over manually the Contact folder that is in the Icloud folder! Also when I double click on an emailaddress to look for the Contact, it looks in the default folder - where I don't have any Contacts (as I move the to the Contact folder connected to Icloud).
    Can I move the Contact folder that is default to the Icloud and then move all Contact over to that one and then delete the one I use now??
    Just afraid to loose the 2800 Contacts I built up during many years (running my own business) !
    Looked for a solution for months... so grateful!
    Thomas

    A little more information would be helpful, like how are you trying to sync, what have you done to set it up, what is your computer type and operating system, what error message do you get when the phone "does not want to sync with the computer"
    If you haven't done so yet it would be helpful to read the manual, specifically the chapter on syncing contacts: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf.

  • [O365] [EWSMA 2.0] [C#] [Windows] How do you create a contact folder that resides under the "My Contacts" node in OWA for O365

    In OWA for Office 365 you can create a contact folder that resides under the "My Contacts" node on "Peoples" tab. This folder ends up appearing under the "Contacts" folder in the exchange store. However, if you attempt to create
    a contact folder under "My Contacts" using Outlook it ends up under "Other Contacts" node in OWA for O365. Even if you attempt to position folder at the root of exchange store it still places it under the "Other Contacts" folder.
    The same is also true if you attempt to create a folder using EWS. Is there a way to create a folder using EWS that will appear under the "My Contacts" node in OWA for O365? I've tried the following with no luck:
    ContactsFolder myContactsFolder = new ContactsFolder(EwsService);
    myContactsFolder.DisplayName = "My contacts folder";
    // Set other properties
    myContactsFolder.Save(WellKnownFolderName.Contacts);
    and
    ContactsFolder myContactsFolder = newContactsFolder(EwsService);
    myContactsFolder.DisplayName = "My contacts folder";
    // Set other properties
    myContactsFolder.Save(WellKnownFolderName.MsgFolderRoot);

    Hi Tony,
    Lots of questions, here goes:
    CAN YOU: Yes.  You can create multiple server nodes.  You can add a server node by going into the Visual Administrator and clicking the add node button.  Make sure you have the required space on the physical drive to accomodate the space needed for the new node (hint: check the space of your existing node).
    PERFORMANCE: Yes, maybe.  If you are running on a 32bit OS, yes, this will definitely improve your performance as you are most likely memory constrained at the moment.  If you are running on an x64 or 64bit OS, you will find that performance will improve but only to the extent that you have memory free and that you have available CPU for the new node.  Remember Java processes are CPU hogs at times, especially during startup, and the more of them you have, the more CPU you need.  Also, watch out for garbage collections.  Be sure to tune your instance to with incrementals and fulls in mind.  Another benefit of multiple nodes is the HA you get by default when you add more than 1 node.  Now if 1 node should crash or restart, your portal is still running and accessible on the other node.
    PARAMETERS: Yes and no.  For java startup parameters, you can create a template under the global --> servers to have your parameters be all the same  When you create a node, those parameters will be used.   But, your currently configured child configuration parameters will not be reflected in the new instance since those parameters are taken from the global (parent).  This is what the global is for and you should consider adjusting the global if you want your child nodes to have consistant values.
    Let me know if you have more questions.

  • How can I synch ONLY the default 'contacts' folder in Outlook 2003?

    I am using Outlook 2003 SP3. In my 'contacts' menu I have 3 folders: 'Contacts', 'iPhone' and 'Old.' I created 'iPhone' and 'Old' folders and 'Contacts' was the default folder. When I synch my 3G iPhone with Outlook I want to synch ONLY the default 'contacts' folder. But I can't seem to do this. My options are to synch all folders or a selection of non-default folders (i.e., anything but 'Contacts.')
    Does this make sense? I don't want to synch anything in the 'old' folder to my iphone. But I also don't want to move all of my current contacts to a special folder just so I can synch only these items.
    So when I synch my iPhone I want it to limit the synching to only the default 'contacts' folder.
    Is there a way to do this?

    Open one of the folders that keeps changing. Set it to the view mode you prefer. Press Command-J (Show View Options in View menu).
    At the top of the View Options screen is an item which allows one to set "Always open in xxx view". Chekmark that.
    Repeat for each folder you want.
    This is a per-folder setting. Note that the View Options screen is 'live" - you can leave it open, and as you open successive folders it will display the settings for each in turn.

  • Can't Change, Add or Remove Outlook Contacts Folder in Desktop Software

    I’m using version 7.1.0.41  of the BlackBerry Desktop Software. I recently created a new updated PST file in Outlook 2010. When I looked at the BlackBerry Desktop Software Contacts Configuration by going to Organizer, then  Contacts – Microsoft Outlook: Configure…, Advanced Options: Advanced: Folders, I saw that the Desktop Software had defaulted to the default Contacts folder in my new Outlook profile. This wasn’t the Contacts Folder I had been using with my BlackBerry Curve 9320, so I chose “Select different contacts to sync”, double-clicked on my new Outlook Profile at the Root Level then selected the Contacts Folder I had used previously.
    I found I could not use the Green Add button to add this folder and I couldn’t use the Red Remove button to delete the existing Main Contacts file. If I double-clicked on the Contacts folder which I wanted to use, the correct file path showed under “Select different contacts to sync”. However once I clicked OK and then returned to the Advanced Options, I found that it had reverted back to the original default settings.
    I did notice that Outlook’s main Contacts file which I don’t want to use has a “Contacts” icon while the contacts Folder I want to use has only a generic folder icon. Under “My Contacts” in Outlook, however, all my Contacts files have the same icon. If I try to sync now, the Desktop Software wants to add all the contacts from my main Contacts group to my BlackBerry, which I don’t want. This all worked just fine before I updated my Outlook PST file.
    Thanks for your help with this.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I've now resolved the problem. I had an email folder name "Mobile Contacts" which was causing me to use the wrong path. I needed to open the folder with the Contacts icon to get to the next level down where the Contacts folder I wanted to use was.
    I couldn't add, remove or delete the folder I was attempting to use because it was actually an email folder, not a contacts folder.

  • My outlook 2010 Contact Groups are not visible in iTunes; only syncs main Outlook Contact Folder, others not synching

    I have an iPhone (running the latest device software) and have Outlook 2010 for PC on my desktop.  I have several Outlook 2010 Contact Folders/Groups but when I try to sync with my iPhone I only have the option to sync all of my contacts.
    When I sync this -- the only Outlook folder/group that is synced is my main 'Contacts' folder/group.  All the rest of my folders/groups are not being transferred to my iPhone.  I've had this issue for a few months now -- and though I like the iPhone, my old Blackberry nev er presented this problem when it came to the simple base function of syncing.  Appreciate your help -- as I am out of answers.  Thanks.

  • How to I delete all contact on my iPhone at once. These are contacts ABOVE the contact folder that says From My Mac. I do not want to erase all of the other settings and content from my iPhone -- just the contacts.

    How to I delete all contact on my iPhone at once? These are contacts ABOVE the contact folder that says, "From My Mac."
    Someone said create a new empty folder on the computer and sync to that -- didn't work .
    Another person said, "Reset information in settings to restore to the default." That would erase ALL of the conetent I have on the phone and I do not want to erase all of the other settings and content from my iPhone -- just the contacts.
    There has to be a better way than gong through and deleting one-by-one.

    Go into Settings...Mail, Calendar and Contacts and siwtch off the Contacts section from the account in question.
    The phone should ask you if you want to keep or erase the contacts stored on you phone.
    However, if they aren't synched to anything and only exist on your iPhone, you'll have to delete them all one by one

  • Make icloud contacts the default contact folder in outlook 2007

    Recently Outlook 2007 Contacts defaulted to the Contacts folder under My Contacts instead of the Contacts in iCloud folder under iCloud.  The iCloud folder is at the top of list but Outlook does not default to it when I open Outlook 2007.  How do I change the default folder that opens when I start Outlook 2007?
    Here's what I see.
    CONTACTS
    All Contact Items
    (Drop Down Menu)
        Search these date files
              Personal Folders
              Archive Folders
              iCloud (check marked)
              [email protected]

  • Hiding private contact and other private information

    I have used a Palm PDA for years and depend on its ability to hide private contacts and private information while having those not marked private visible.  (To view the private information one must enter a password.)
    I am trying to migrate from using both the Palm PDA and Blackberry to using the Blackberry 8830 World Edition exclusively.  Is this feature available on the Blackberry?  That is to have certain information visible only after a password is entered?   If not, is there a third party program available which performs that function?
    Thanks for your assistance.

    The native OS will use the password to lock the entire device.
    Yes, black pangolin appears to be the same as safebox. I don't know know about about Safebox or BlackPangolin to recommend it. I have not used it, and I have read show less than favorable reviews of it.
