Private Link in UCCE

Hello I need to know if in one scenario of  High availability  of UCCE for Private Link is necessary a second link to do fail-over?
can somebody help me?
Thanks.

Why don't you read the SRND, page 2-44?
Best Practices
The link does not have to be redundant. If a redundant link is used, however, latency on failover must not exceed 500 ms.
Separate QoS classifications and reserved bandwidth are required for Central Controller high-priority and PG high-priority communications.
Link sizing and configuration must be examined before any major change to call load, call flow, or deployment configuration. This is especially important in the single-link model.
The link should preferably be a dedicated circuit fully isolated from, and not tunneled across, the highly available (HA) WAN.

Geoff

  • UCCE Router Call Key Reset Post Private Link Failure

                     Hi Guys
As above. My customer has UCCE v7.5.8 together with CVP 7.0 designed with a pair of Proggers geographically split with a 2x10Mb LES between the 2 sites supporting both the visible and private traffic (One LES for each).
The LES supporting the Private traffic 'blipped' but recovered within 10 mins. Now each day @ midnight Router Call Key starts at 201, however, whilst looking into a reporting issue I noticed that Router Call Key, seems to have reset to 201, but prepended with digits 34768, making a Router Call Key of 34768201. This appears to coincide with the time of the Private link recovery. Has anyone seen this before? I'm guessing this denotes a state-transfer/Db re-sync has taken place, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
    Cheers
    Freddie

    Thanks Lasse,
When running that tool, all the links are showing zero utilization - not sure if the tool is able to show any more detailed information?
I should state that this Lync implementation is not live, there no Lync clients out on the corporate network, and I'm not expecting any traffic on the WAN site links at this point.
It just seems to be an issue when accessing as a remote user.   At this point I think it must be because I have misconfigured CAC.  And because it is happening for a conference and not peer to peer for the remote user, then it is probably the relationship
between the front end server pool and Edge server / remote user.
I have a local / central site defined in CAC with no bandwidth policy applied.  Initially the subnets assigned to this central site were just the LAN subnets for the central site that I knew would have Lync clients running on them.  Then as part
of troubleshooting decided to add the Edge Internal IP, and then Edge external IPs as subnets associated with this central site.  Still getting the same problem though.
Its around about times like now where I wonder if it is something simple like a service needing restarting so I'll double check things like this.   If you have any other ideas it would be greatly appreciated - a bit stuck.

If your private interconnect had really failed then one or other of the cluster nodes would have panicked. I think it is more likely that either you have changed the nsswitch.conf entry for hosts such that it does not include 'cluster' first, although I would have expected that to result in an unresolved host name. The other option is that you have hardened your machine in some way with ipfilters or security settings.
    Has it ever worked?

  • Fail Over and Redundancy with UCCE 7.5

I have a customer  that is installing UCCE and they want to run side A and side B in stand alone if the visable and private network are both down.. Based on the SRND it states the system looks at the PG with the most active connections and takes over and the other side goes dark. I am desging this in a distributed mode with agants in both sites. Any ideas other than Parent Child.

... the system looks at the PG with the most active connections and takes over and the other side goes dark.
Not quite. Behaviour of a duplex Router pair when the private network breaks is a complex affair.
As you probably know, the MDS pairs form a "synchronized zone" - one MDS will be PAIRED-ENABLED and the other PAIRED-DISABLED.
Consider all the PGs out there. On some PGs, the active link of the pgagent will be connected to the ccagent on the enabled side, while on the remainder of the PGs, the pgagent active link will be connected to the disabled side.
When a pgagent has an active link to the disabled side, that MDS cannot set the message order - it has to send the message to its peer MDS (enabled), who sets the message order, and now both Routers get the message in the same order at the same time.
Therefore, when the private network breaks, any PGs that have the active link connected to the disabled side will realign to the enabled side. The idle side remains connected - it's just a state change.
Idle paths and active paths both count for device majority.
The rules for the enabled side are simple: if it has device majority, it goes straight to ISOLATED-ENABLED. If it doesn't, it goes to ISOLATED-DISABLED.
The disabled side is more complex. First it checks for device majority. If it has this, it initiates the TOS (test other side) process. If every PG it can communicate with reports that it has no communication to the other side, then it will promote itself to  ISOLATED-ENABLED.
If the private network breaks and the public network is affected such that neither side has device majority, they both go disabled. Assuming the private link stays down, but the public network starts to come back in stages, eventually the majority of the PGs will be able to talk to one of the disabled sides, and then that will initiate the TOS process, and will go enabled.
Now let's consider what you have - you say "agents at both sites".
Let's imagine for a moment you have a 3rd site and 4th site that have no agents - they are just for the central controller. You have a dedicated link between sites 3 and 4 for the private network, and a public network out to sites 1 and 2
At sites 1 and 2, you have a Call Manager cluster, pair of PGs etc.
If the private network goes down, one of the sides will run simplex until the network is restored. Routing at sites 1 and 2 is unaffected.
If the public network to site 1 is down, routing at site 1 is broken until the network is restored. Site 2 is unaffected.
If the public network to site 2 is down, routing at site 2 is broken until the network is restored. Site 1 is unaffected.
If both networks are down, the whole system is isolated, no routing occurs until the visible has come back to the point where one of the sides will come up as ISOLATED-ENABLED.
Now what happens when we colocate the central controllers at the agent sites as in your model. Have we improved the situation? On the surface it looks like we have - and that's what your customer is saying with "they want to run side A and side B in stand alone if the visable and private network are both down".
When the private link breaks and the public link breaks, each router is ISOLATED-DISABLED and cannot come up because it only sees 1 of 2 PGs (the ones on the LAN at the site). So now you are down on both sites.
You might address this by installing at site 1 a third PG, configured in the normal way (it doesn't do anything) talking to both Call Routers, one local, one remote. It can be simplex.
Now when the private link breaks and the public link breaks, site 1 can see the majority of the PGs so it comes up in ISOLATED-ENABLED. Routing resumes at site 1, but site 2 remains off the air. This is the best result you can achieve.
The most important thing to think about is this: when the private network comes back up, the synchronizers try to do a state transfer. Assuming success, the synchronizers change to PAIRED mode. Now the routers and loggers will exchange state. If each site had been working in simplex mode ("split brain"), then when they come together you will have a totally messed up database. This corrupted state will most likely be unrecoverable.
It has happened in the past. I'll spare you the gory details.

  • Ucce deployment query

Hi i am working on a ucce deployment which has side a at Florida and side b at virginia. We had recommended the customer to go with 2 diffrent subnets for the private and public communication as a best practise mentioned, however the customer has some limitations on giving the extra subnet. The customer is ready to take the responsibility of matching the required bandwidth and latency all the time between the private links and public links. So ideally it has to be a single nic for both private and public. They have an MPLS backbone with a redundancy in place.Would it be smart to go with a single subnet?I am definetly sceptical on that.Is there any other such networks running in this mode and if yes what are the problems which could arise?

As a Cisco partner, you will have to submit your design to Cisco as part of the A2Q (Assessment to quality) process.
There are now three A2Q reviews, the second of which is the most important. You have to pass this before Cisco will release your software order. The A2Q process is extensive, and the correct design of the private link between the sides is something that will be carefully examined. If you run public traffic over the same link as the private traffic, you will not pass A2Q.
This is not a question of subnets - but actual physical links. It can be difficult trying to convince the customer that the Cisco requirements are mandatory - but you will have much tougher time trying to convince Cisco to release software for a design that is deficient in this area. They are almost certain to reject your design.
The customer may feel that they can control the bandwidth, latency and QoS marking to meet the Cisco requirements, and with care and attention to detail, it can be made to work.
However, you open up the ICM system to a very serious situation should the link fail and the Call Routers lose the private link and the public link at the same time. Depending on how the PGs are arranged, you can get into a situation called "split brain", where both side A and side B independently think they are in control, so the Contact Center continues running. But when the private link comes back and the two Router/Loggers try to synchronize, they cannot. Now you are in serious trouble and the database may be irretrievably corrupt.

    Geoff

  • Private interconnect oracle 10g RAC configuration

Can you please answer below questions?
Why does a private interconnect need a switch, and why is straight through cables not supported.

    Hi,
Why do you need a switch between the nodes".When network plugs are pulled out from one node on a two node cluster, a split brain scenerio occurs. (just it's enough)
If you are using a crossover cable and you shutdown node (A) you will loose the network (private) link from node (B) (this happens in some servers.), Oracle RAC will not work with private network link down, both nodes will down and will not start until you get link on network private. (Goodbye high availability)
You will be very unhappy with the error ORA-29740. Prelude to suggest this note: Troubleshooting ORA-29740 in a RAC Environment [ID 219361.1]
There is no "why" Oracle RAC does not support crossover cable because RAC depends of SWITCH (it's a Hardware Requirements) and any problems in your environment Oracle will force you to implement a supported solution.
You will have implemented a poor environment, if you not use a GB switch for private network.
    Oracle Words:
*Physical Layout of the Private Interconnect*
The basic requirements are described in the Installation Guide for each platform. Additional information about certification can be found on Metalink Certify.
The interconnect as identified by both subnet number and interface name must be configured on all clustered nodes.
*A switch between the clustered nodes is an absolute requirement.*

  • How to create a database link ?

i want to create a database link.please give mesteps

There is a chapter in the DBA Administration manual for versions 8.1, 9.2, and 10g on this topic which provide all the information you need.
You will need to choose the type of database link: global, current user, or imbedded user and if you need a public or private link.
Basically all you do is create a tnsnames.ora entry for the remote db and then create a database link (See SQL manual entry CREATE DATABASE LINK) that references the tnsnames.ora entry.
The manuals or the entire manual set can be downloaded from technet.

  • Create database link

    hi guys.
I need help to create database link with this scenario
i want to create database link between database A ,database B i want to access something inside B i have problems with command and i need help to create database link .
also does i need owner on both database to create DBlink.
    Regards.

there is no scenario for creating database link except the prerequisite for having privlileges create database link for private link while for public is create public database link.
You can create database link in database A for the database B using its string and its username and password

We created a presentation in keynote for an important client. He's requested that we give him the ability to share the slide show with individuals over the internet. He also wants to be able to make it, not only private, but also only temporarily viewable by the individual. Ideally he would be able to set up temporary accounts to let them in the site to view the presentation, then delete their account after a period of time. Obviously the system would have to be very user friendly for him. We thought to use Slideshare. It gives a private link but that link can be passed around so that won't work. Any methods to accomplish this or workarounds?

  • DB links for SYS to use

    Oracle 11gR2 RHEL 5
    All,
I have a script that I will be running and it will be accessing multiple schemas in a remote database. The thought is to execute to script as SYS instead of re-connecting with a different schema throughout the script. But the question is what type of db link should I use for SYS to be able to run the script without any issues? Should I use a private link?
    Thanks.

You have a couple of options:
you can create a public database link, but I generally advise against doing this - poor security practice.
You can create a db_link in the SYS schema, but then using the "connect to <user> identified by <password> using <SID>" syntax.
I personally don't like doing it this way, but it will work.
I would personally suggest creating the private db_link in the schema that will connect to the same schema in the remote database.
It's just cleaner all the way around and easier to manage (IMHO).

  • DB links and Security

    DB Version:10gR2
To connect to a remote DB, we create only one DB link for that DB. We create a public DB Link like
    create public database link wmat
connect to SYSTEM identified by jklf
    using '(DESCRIPTION =
         (ADDRESS_LIST =
              (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.80.16.314)(PORT = 1521))
         (CONNECT_DATA =
              (SID = wmat)
)';Since we are connecting as SYSTEM user of the remote DB, we only have to prefix the remote schema name and access the DB object over there.
But, isn't this a security threat for that remote DB since we are connecting as SYSTEM over there?
    Question1.
If you did a security Audit in these two DBs, what would you say?
    Question2.
Is creating a DB Link for every schema or one DB link connected to the SYSTEM (as mentioned above) of the remote DB the standard practice?

    Insignificant wrote:
But, isn't this a security threat for that remote DB since we are connecting as SYSTEM over there? Most definitely yes.
    Question1.
If you did a security Audit in these two DBs, what would you say? Be very concerned. As DBA I would refuse to implement such a link as it exposes the entire database to the whims of developers and end-users.
    Question2.
Is creating a DB Link for every schema or one DB link connected to the SYSTEM (as mentioned above) of the remote DB the standard practice? Each Oracle schema represents a logical container for data and code objects - think of it as a logical database. Each schema should have its own privs. Own resource profiles. Etc.
This ensures a lot of things. Better security. Increase robusteness. Better isolation. Better transportability. Etc. (and in all aspects, from development to deployment to operation)
By the same token, if that logical container needs a database object called a db link to communicate with a remote database container - than that must be a secure and private link for that container (schema) only.
One should only use the public "shared" container for common data and code objects. For example, for PL/SQL exception management PL/SQL libraries. Message log PL/SQL libraries. Etc. (this is similar to the shared object/dynamic link library concept of Linux/Windows applications - where common code resides in a sharable format)
