    I stongly believe that Steve has given you the best advice. Actually, it's the same advice that I would have given you, if I had seen your post first!
    I can verify that his books will give you more info, and in a more usable form, than tutoring, or even in-class, hands-on schooling will. Almost anything that can be done with the program (he also has a companion book for Photoshop Elements, which is often bundled with PrE) is covered in easy to understand detail.
    After reading through, and working along, his second bit of advice, Muvipix, is also sound. Between this, and Muvipix fora (Community tab), there have been very few questions that could not be answered. Muvipix also is a great resource for additional articles on how things are done, plus tutorials.
    I also recommend that one take an hour and read through both the FAQ and Tips & Tricks articles, found to the right of the PrE forum main page. I would read Steve's book first, so terms, etc. would be most clear.
    There are two on-line training sites, that get great reviews: www.lynda.com and www.ltotaltraining.com. I have not subscribed to either, but have used the materials furnished from them with various Adobe programs. I also have several of the lynda.com books on various programs, and they are well-written. Now, they are NOT one-on-one tutoring, which is what you are looking for. They also probably do not cover PrElements, but that is just my guess. If they do, they would be another good source of training, though it's through tutorials, and not direct instruction.
    This is just my 02¢'s worth of thought.

  • Can some one help me with this project

    This project will simulate the behavior of an Integrity Subsystem in validating the data in a database.
    More specifically, assume there are 2 tables, A and B, in a given database. Table A has 4 integer
    attributes names a, b, c, d and table B has 4 integer attributes named e, f, g, h.
    Your program is to input up to 20 integrity rules as discussed below, and store them in some internal
    format of your choosing. Then enter up to 15 tuples for each table. For each tuple, check it against all the
    applicable integrity rules and print out an error message for each rule that is violated. If no rules are
    violated then print a message saying all it well and enter that tuple into the database. Do not enter a tuple
    into a database if any rule is violated for that tuple.
    There are 3 different types of integrity rules: Primary key, Foreign key, and Attribute.
    The formats for the rules are given below:
    Primary key: rule#, P, tablename, attribute name
    1 A or B a,b,c,d,e,f,g, or h
    The meaning of this rule is that the specified attribute name of the specified table is the
    primary key of that table.
    Foreign key: rule#, F, tablename, attribute name, tablename, attributename
    2 A or B a,b,c,d,e,f,g, or h A or B a,b,c,d,e,f,g, or h
    The meaning of this rule is that the first attribute name and tablename is a foreign key
    referencing the second attribute name and tablename.

    The meaning of this rule is that the attribute name in the specified table always have a value lying
    in the range of low value to high value inclusive.

    Specifications:
    1. You can just represent the provided 10 rules and new rules created by yourself in some
    internal data structures. Or you can store the rules in a text file and then read it one by one.
    2. The test data must be stored in a text file �tuples.txt� in which each line has one tuple and
    field items are separated by one or more blank spaces (not comma, or colons).
    3. Bring a project report at the beginning of the class on the due date. The project report
    should have a summary on how you finish the project. For examples, you should discuss
    some key data structures you chosen to store the rules and tuples, how you check the invalid
    tuples and insert valid tuples, and so on. I hope that after reading the report, I should get some
    ideas how you finish the project even without reading the source code.
    4. Also you should print out source code and include in the report. In addition, you need to
    copy the execution output results. I give a sample expected output for your reference. You
    can change it in any way but just make sure it is clear to read for users.

    5. Bring a floppy disk containing the source code and the project report word file. It should
    only have one directory named as your �Firstname.Lastname� For example, if your name is
    John Johnson, the directory name should be �John.Johnson� in the root (your wku email
    should be [email protected] also in most cases).
    Create a subdirectory �Report� to store the report word file. The report name can be
    �CS543_Project_2_Report�. Then create another directory named as �Code� to keep all the
    necessary files to run the program without any further configuration (including �tuples.txt�).
    6. Submit a zip file which contains all the files in your floppy disk to the �Digital Drop Box�.
    The zip file name must be �Firstname.Lastname.zip�. For example, if your name is John
    Johnson, the directory name should be �John.Johnson.zip�. So if I unzip the file, I should get
    exactly same files as the floppy disk.
    7. Follow closely �Program Scoring Rubric For CS Dept� and �Writing/Documentation
    Scoring Rubric for CS Dept�. Your project grading will be based on these two guidelines.
    At least, your code should have a perfect and consistent format style and include sufficient
    comments (generally > 20%) which explain possible confusions clearly. Also always try to
    use constant variables to denote numbers. For example, if you created 20 rules in total, you
    can define a constant variable such as in C++ �#define TOTAL_INTEGRITY_RULES 20�.

    So what is your question?
    People here are not generally inclined to read your homework, and then read your mind to find out what's giving you trouble.
    If you're absolutely lost and have no clue where to start, you should speak to you instructor or engage the services of a private tutor. These forums are simply not an effective venue for that kind of help.
    Otherwise, take your best shot, do as much as you can do, and then post specific questions about the specific bits that are giving you trouble. Be as thorough and precise as possible about what you're trying to do and what didn't work. Copy/paste the complete text of any error messages. Add println statements to your code and include comments like "I expected it to print xyz here but it printed abc".

    The manager of a company employs 3 secretaries who are of varying ability, but who all work extremely fast. Secretary A is the most experienced secretary and is capable of typing up a letter once every second. Secretary B is less experienced and is capable of typing up a letter once every 2 seconds. Secretary C is the junior secretary and is capable of typing up a letter once every 4 seconds. When a secretary has typed up a letter he leaves it in the manager?s tray for him to remove and sign. The manager removes and signs a letter from the tray once every 2 seconds. The tray can hold a maximum of 5 letters at a time. The tray?s limited capacity sometimes causes the various workers to be delayed. For example, if the tray is full after a letter has been typed, the secretaries must wait until the manager makes a space available before they can add another letter to the tray. Similarly, the manager must wait for at least one letter to appear in the tray before he can take it out and sign it.
    In your program, make use of threads to represent each of the workers (the 3 secretaries and the manager), so that they can work in parallel. You will also need to declare a tray object, and ensure that all communication is properly synchronised to avoid indeterminacy and deadlock. While an office worker is busy typing a letter or signing it, you should send that thread to sleep for the appropriate time period. This can be achieved with a call to:
    Thread.sleep(m);
    where m is the number of milliseconds for which the thread should suspend.
    The output from your program should take the form of a running commentary on the activity taking place in the office. An extract from it might look something like this (though it is up to you how you word this):

    Then you're probably better off enlisting one-on-one, in-person help from your instructor, a classmate, or a private tutor, or joining a study group. Forums like this are not well-suited to tutoring you from the ground up.
    If you're doing multithreaded homework and you don't even know where to start, it sounds like ether the instructor is horrible or you're in over your head, or you just haven't been keeping up with the class.

    Hello, I am doing a senior project for my high school. My project will include a Java program which I will write. I will be needing a long term mentor, for possibly a very long time (up to a year). I know this seems like an amazing commitment but I will only be asking the easiest of questions, if I ask any at all, I do have a basic knowledge of Java. We will need to communicate via E-mail or online chat, preferably E-mail. My coordinator wishes that my mentor has either been certified or has a degree in Java programming.
    Please consider this, the project is a requirement for my graduation.

    Requesting private tutoring on public forums IS rude, and most often against the rules of those forums.
    In contrast, asking questions nicely and waiting for answers is considered quite civilised.
    Do NOT direct questions towards a single user however. There are far more people capable of answering those questions than just one, and you're NOT entitled to any one person's undivided attention anyway.

  • Classpath problems when importing my classes

    I'm using a tutorial with sample programs dealing with bank accounts.
    I get this error:
    InterestBearingAccount.java [9:1] '.' expected
    import Account;
    ^
    1 error
    Errors compiling InterestBearingAccount.
    The Account class already exists in the current directory. I've tried everything as far as setting the classpath variable (nothing, just a period, period & slash, the actual complete path for the current directory, nothing works!!!!!). I also tried using -classpath (.) and the end of my javac command and that seemed to not work at all.
    The Java Coffee Break tutorial have some already compiled (*.class) files and they run fine. My *.java files are identical. In fact, I cut and pasted them so I know it's not a typo.
    My path is set to include the jdk1.4.0\bin directory and I've only begun to have problems now that I need to import existing classes into the programs.
    I should mention that I get the same error using Forte environment or doing it at the command prompt window. Please help.

    Thanks ATMGUY. I commented out the import statements in both InterestBearingAccount and AccountDemo and it worked fine. I guess the author of that tutorial was obviously not working with jdk 1.4.
    As far as using packages, com.kusek.bank would make a good package name then??

    should be added to all three classes and no import statements would then be necessary, right??
    I just remember reading that it should be something unique as a good habit to get into.
    I'm trying to learn enough to make a useful GUI program for a special project so I probably should be using packages anyway when I get to that point.
    My programming backround is limited to procredural languages Basic, QBasic, Pascal, and Fortran and I find myself still wanting to think in those terms. I have read several web sites and worked through some basic examples but I still have much to learn. I once I can grasp how to write OOP style it would be nice to look at code for a somewhat detailed application (like a store checkout app) and have every line explained as to why it's there. I can see where it makes sense to have your GUI classes predefined (Swing), File I/O, serial port communications, and even things like this InterestBearingAccount example that extends from the Account class utilizing its basic attributes but overriding the constructors for the additional parameters (interest calculation) that are passed. How to take a common problem and go about creating a solution is what I need to see being done to help me.
    My telemetry project uses VHF radios with packet radio modems to monitor two diesel engines and turn one off if the other turns off. The modems have built in A/D data gathering and can also output control signals, they just need to be told what to do. I can manually use a Windows Hyperterminal session and type in "connect Engine1" and use commands to determine the A/D inputs "analog". The modems have built in end-to-end acknowledgement so the only think I need is an application than can be setup to run in the Startup folder to handle this. It would use a timer class to "poll" engine1 every 5-10 minutes and if it has stopped (based on the response of the "analog" command) I would "disconnect" from engine1 and "connect" to engine2 and send a "ctrl B off" or something similar. The standard responses from the modem should allow me just to send and recieve STRING data to and from the serial port and parse them as needed. I need at least this much but it shouldn't be too much harder to develop a way to reset the system(reverse of this) when that is required. I could also read a water pressure value at one of the locations and display that on the screen along with the current status of the engines (using values obtained from the "analog" command on the modems).
    The hardest part of OOP programming seems to be knowing what classes are already out there and knowing how to find them or apply them. I hope Swing has classes that provide for displaying values on the Windows taskbar (my motherboard monitor freeware displays temperature readings down on the taskbar). I appreciate all the help given here. It's almost like having a private tutor.

    Anyway I've got my lecture notes covering caches etc...but I have no idea where to start on this, I've racked my brains but I'm still really confused, I've googled it as well and still got no idea. can someone point me in the right direction so I can solve this problem.
    Anyone who helps (not solves!!!) I will seriously mail you tea and crumpets or if the sound of crumpets scares you (as with some people) Cookies or some other baked good will have to do.
    PROBLEM
    You are to construct a program that manages a 0.25 KB cache.
    (That is,data upto 256 Bytes can be stored in the cache.)
    Cache can be organised in any one of two ways:
    Direct Mapped, or
    Fully associative.
    The program takes address references in the range 0 .. 1023
    and determines whether a given address reference is a hit or miss.
    It also computes the Miss rate every time a miss is encountered
    and at the end displays the overall Miss rate and the contents of the cache.
    For displaying the cache contents, you may represent the memory
    content at address X simply as MX. You should assume that a cache block
    holds 8 Bytes and, where necessary, employ the LRU scheme for block replacement.
    The only idea I've had about this is creating several variables each a byte and then processing all the data through an array of bytes and then use a loop to working out whether its a hit or miss etc...
    There is some test data but I don't think its really any help.

    If you don't even know how to get started, this is not going to be the most effective place to get help. Forums like this work better for specific questions when you've already done some of the work. You should talk to your instructor or get one-on-one, in-person help from a private tutor.

    First, I know you're having a serious problem, but starting three different topics makes it really difficult and confusing....
    At this point, considering the other threads and none of the things offered have helped, I'd say as has been suggested in one of the other two, hold down the power button for 5 seconds to power down the computer. Unplug it and take it it to the store - I'm assuming you're under warranty. Even if you're not, the Genius Bar diagnosis is free.

  • Sync boss rc50 to Logic (tempo)

    Hi,
    I've searched around with no luck so thought I would try here.
    I have a Boss RC50 looper and would like to sync it to Logic.  In Logic, I setup Midi Clock in the synchronization section and RC50 is set to receive midi.  I have a Motu Tiempiece and connected Midi out to Midi in on the RC50.  When I hit play in Logic, in theory, the Boss should catch the tempo and start playing back.  I was able to do this easily with Ableton Live but not with Logic.  Can anyone help me out!

    Hello, I am new to online editing. I will online an HD project ( ProRes compression ) and I would like to know what are the maximum value ( on final cut vectorscope ) of each color ( R,Y,G,Cy,B,Mg ) to be broadcast safe?
    Second, is reducing the saturation value with limit effect in the 3 way color-corrector the only way to reduce chroma value?? The broadcast safe filter is not doing it. I don't have any plug-in.
    I am using Final Cut Pro 6.0.1

    I have been racking my brain for hours and I cannot figure it out.
    We must use the Scanner class.
    Also, we only have been taught the:

    while
    do while
    for
    printf
    and a very basic array
    PLEASE HELP...THIS IS DUE THURSDAY!!!!

    Break the problem down into pieces. I have to assume that you must have some idea on how to do some of it. If not, speak to your instructor.
    How would you tell somebody to do it if you had to write down the directions, and that person was going to write it with pencil & paper?
    That person doesn't know what a diamond is, and he will do exactly what you tell him, but you must make your instructions simple and precise. You can tell him in English, pseudocode, or a combination--whatever is easiest for you.
    Do this first. If you can't do this, then you can't write it in Java.
    Once you do that, work on translating those steps to Java.

    i m doing a project on "Loosely coupled architecture".It means 2 applications working independent of each other.
    But they can notify changes to other applications if required using xml files.
    Suppose 1st appl can send name,rno,class,div
    2nd appl wants only name and rno
    we have a broker in between them
    broker has info abt all the appl,and ioaddress of the machine where the appl is running.
    now 1st appl sends the xml file to broker .
    Broker will make another xml file according to the fields required by 2nd appl
    and transfer that file to that 2nd appl.
    previously i hav written the code to transfer the files using socket programming.
    but we did not think abt broker at that time.we just transfered file frm 1 appl to another.
    now my prob is where to place the broker.as it shd not depend on any appl to keep running.even if 1 appl is down it shd b running so that other appl can use broker.
    and if i use rmi is a proper way to do that?

    A book can. The O'Reilly book is very good. The Java Tutorial is a good place to start. The Horstman and Cornell Core Java series has a good section.
    I can write a book or do private tutoring for $150/hr., but I get to keep the royalties. Overall, you'll save more money and learn more by bothering to read.

    Try this......... Download the ISO file of preview build 10041 from this link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso-update-1503
    Make sure you pick the right bit version, i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit.
    Save the ISO to a folder > when it is done downloading, go to the folder >
    right click at the ISO > click Mount > click Open > click Setup.exe.
    The system will start installing. Pay attention to the screen.
    Hope this installation will be successful.
    If successful, and after a few updates are installed, you will be offered build 10049 which is the latest build.

    I have xcode 4.3.3 fully installed.
    I have latest gcc fully installed.
    I have tested gFortran at the command line.
    I have OSX Lion and related software up to date.
    Xcode does not ship with any Fortran support but it seems to have the capacity to do so. I lack the knowledge.
    I teach computer programming as a private tutor.
    I am new to Xcode but not to Macs.
    I wish to introduce my students to a full blown IDE whilst also programming in Fortran.
    Please ONLY reply if you have successfully integrated gFortran into Xcode.
    (There is a wellknown troll on these forums who loves to post that Fortran is ancient and pretend to be helpful to people wanting help in this matter. Do not post here thanks, I will not enter into any debate and you have no experience in this matter)

    Right now editing a trivial Hello World type program inside Xcode.
    Deleted the default starting source file in "C".
    Added a file with source code selected as Fortran 90.
    It builds and runs okay.
    I suspect that I am using an old Fortran compiler that might already ship with Apple's use of an old GCC build behind the scenes?
    I have the latest gFortran available and working at the command line.
    Would like to know how to force this to be used. I have the option to add a Custom Script as a Build Rule for my source Target but don't know how to make one of these Custom Scripts as the included documentation is silent on that.
    It would appear that the colourising of the source code to highlight keywords and so forth is based upon whatever is selected in the little area to the bottom right of the main Xcode screen. No Fortran option in there.
