Private viewing of DPS Apps

I have a client who wants to develop several DPS Single Edition apps, however; he wants to restrict its distribution to only the people that he chooses to see it. Yes, I know you can do this in Adobe Content Viewer, however; he wants his own app logo. Is there a way to send the actual app file to other people for them to install it on their own iPads?

You can get DPS Enterprise edition and Apple Developer Enterprise to create Enterprise signed apps which can be used for internal distribution. If you can get this, it's pretty easy to create the apps and you do not need to add any UDID's for distribution.
In case you do not wish to buy DPS Enterprise, there is a complicated and time consuming way, that you need to add UDID's of the iPads you need to distribute app to in you Mobile Provisioning certificate and use either Creative Cloud/SE to create apps using that certificate.

  • DPS content viewer for custom app

Our company has a dedicated app built for an ipad which we use to get PDF documents and video's out to our sales staff.  I am wanting to incorporate DPS folios and need to understand what viewer is required for the app to recognise DPS folios?

There is no way to do this currently, we do not offer an SDK to integrate DPS into another application.
You could approach this the other way around, by building a DPS app that shows the folios, and use something like PDF4DPS (http://www.pdf4dps.com/) from CrossIP to convert your PDFs to folios for viewing within that same app.
We have a few articles up as well on using DPS in enterprise scenarios that might be helpful: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/using-dps-in-the-enterprise.html.

  • Removing Viewer Shell from DPS App Builder

I've finished building my app with Digital Publishing Suite and created my app with DPS App Builder (for Single Edition). Now that I'm testing my development app, I was wondering if there was any way to remove the shell around the app I've built, as it interferes with interactive elements on my page. Is this something that can only be done with the Professional or Enterprise Editions?

There's no way to remove the menu bar that appears on screen when the reader taps the page content. You have to account for it in your design if it concerns you. Even pro/enterprise customers can't disable it.

  • What is a quick alternative to launching an enterprise DPS app if Apple Store rejects the App? We are under a major deadline and can't wait for Apple. We want to host the app elsewhere. How do we host our DPS app on our client's website?

What is a quick alternative to launching an enterprise DPS app if Apple Store rejects the App? We are under a major deadline and can't wait for Apple to approve. We want to host the app elsewhere. How do we host our DPS app on our client's website? Thanks.

Unless I misunderstand the question, you can't do what you're asking to do. Apple doesn't allow you to bypass their store and host public apps on a website. The exception is an enterprise app, which requires an Enterprise account with both Apple and Adobe. This type of enterprise app can be distributed only within the company. If that's what you want to do, you can learn more here:
Digital Publishing Suite Help | Creating viewer apps for private distribution
Distributing enterprise iOS viewer applications with Digital Publishing Suite | Adobe Developer Connection
Another option is to add the development app to several devices and use those for your demo.

  • Private publishing with DPS (student portfolio)

I am a student using DPS to create my graphic design portfolio. It is simply a self-promotional tool, not for sale or wide distribution. Obviously I want an the easiest, most user-friendly way for my viewers (professors, potential employers, etc) to be able to download it and view it on their iOS devices.
(I am not looking to spend additional $, as I have no idea if I'll be self-publishing much more on my own in the near future.)
What is the easiest possible way to privately distribute my portfolio app to recipients?
Is there a file type I can export it as to make it available for download or send via email/dropbox/flash drives?
    katie

The recipient will need a verified Adobe ID. Once they have that, they'll need the Adobe Content Viewer on their iPad.
Share the folio with them and they'll be able to view it. There is no other way to distribute a folio privately without an enterprise Adobe/Apple account.

  • I would like to be able to print a pdf from a DPS app.

Is there a way to do this.  I understand how to get the pdf to open and view within the DPS app, but I would then like to be able to print it.

If you have the Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK) and the video that your camera generates is in one of the formats tha the iPad supports then you can directly move it to the iPad with a USB connection.

  • How to move an App from one mac to DPS App builder on another mac

When I try to download the Developer app, after adding new UDIDs to the provisioning certificate, I get an error stating the app was built on a different machine. Everything works great when completed from the original Mac that I did the build on. (this was created on a "freelance design" machine and now needs to move to the company machine. I have tried to delete the app and start over, howeve the "Delete" option is grayed out. Using the single edition app.

If you are a Creative Cloud subscriber, you would need to have InDesign Installed on the new Mac. Then you need to click on 'Create App' from Folio Builder Panel in InDesign on the new Mac. That will launch DPS App Builder and embedd the folio in your App. So bottomline is that you need to do this process on the new Mac.
If you however purchased DPS Single Edition ($395) you may export the Folio from Folio Producer and then import the folio in DPS App Builder and continue buliding the App.
I can delete the app for you, send me your DPS App Builder id and App name via Private Message.

  • How to delete an old app in DPS App Builder?

    Hi,
I was wondering how to delete an old app in DPS App Builder when the delete button is inactive?
I had purchased a single edition and build an iPad App. After download the Developer app from DPS App Builder and tested on my iPad, I'd found some page number errors so I'd created a new app. Inorder to activate app, I need to insert the serial number. But it says "this serial number already been redeemed".  Is it because I already use it to build the old app? If so, how to delete the old app because the delete button is inactive for the old app but the new one?
Thank you so much for your kindly help, really appreciated!!!

You need to call product support and have them reset your serial number. In the future you should test your content thoroughly using Adobe Content Viewer before building your app with the serial number. We make it rather painful to update when you are using a serial number for single edition

  • Problem viewing portrait dps folio article

I am using InDesign CC to create a dps app. After I downloaded the folio article to my Adobe Content Viewer on my iPad Air, the photo in the portrait is obscured so that only a corner is visible. In landscape, I can see the entire
photo. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your response. First, I did try the jpeg photo in another
folio article. It was OK in both portrait and landscape. However, in the
meantime, I went back to photoshop and resized the photo from 576x362 px to
724X480px Resolution 72 Resample Bicubic Smoother Enlargement.  I placed it
on the original folio layout I had the problem with and increased the
portrait size to 651x816 px and the landscape size to 896x610 px. Then I
set the opacity to 85% and the blend mode to Luminosity. Precisely all the
steps I took for the problematic folio article. Finally I tested it on the
iPad Air and iPad3. Worked fine in both portrait and landscape on both
devices. My immediate problem is resolved. (Peter, thank you for your
    'House' advice.)

  • Error when starting DPS App Builder - Application not found

    WTF folks.
This morning I open my document (CS5) and it says I have to update my folio tools (needless to say i hate it to be forced to do an update before I can start working).
Well, I do an update, both tools (Folio Builder and Producer Tools).
Now there seem to be some changes, I cant refresh my folio via menu anymore. When choosing the new "build app"-option I get an error :
"An error occured while starting DPS App Builder. The DPS App-Builder Application was not found" (translated).
German original version: "Beim Starten von DPS App Builder ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. Die DPS App Builder-Anwendung wurde nicht gefunden."
Any Solutions? Where to get the mysterious "App-Builder Application?"
edit: refresh is now only possible inside the folio it seems.

App Builder is nothing but a new name to Viewer Builder. Download it from DPS Dashbaord.

  • Are your DPS apps successful?

How are you finding your download/viewer numbers for your apps - are they lower/higher or about what you would expect? Are your clients happy that the apps you create for them are worth the investment in your expertise?
What are your opinions on the effectiveness of DPS apps in generating revenues, brand awareness etc? Do you/your clients have aggressive marketing strategies to promote the apps?
I've been using DPS for 3 years and our apps have varying degrees of commercial success. I still consider digital magazine publishing to be in its infancy and strategies for making publishing apps successful at all levels (rather than just multi-million dollar Conde Nast products) are difficult to come by.
What are your thoughts? Do you have a viable business partnering with DPS or is your digital publishing a venture that you hope to make a success sometime soon?
    Thanks

    Hi JDnm,
i think your questions are difficult to answer.
My personal opinion is, that you can´t ignore the digital strategy for products like magazines.
The main reason for success is the app itself, the content and the target audience.
And maybe you have to see it like that:
(Nearly) Every magazine is loosing customers. The digital magazine is one opportunity to keep them as your customers because you give them more values.
So if you for example combine print and non-print you get a commercial success in total.
In total it is a question of the right concept i think.
    Greetings!
    Lars

  • Web Viewer for an app

It looks like a web viewer exists. How can I direct a client/consumer to download and view the published app on a desktop?

If you have enabled social sharing in your DPS app, anyone browsing your article can share on social sharing sites. Whoever clicks on that shared link on a desktop browser from social sharing site will be able to view the same article on thier desktop browser (called web viewer)

  • Previewing DPS apps, on-device, for client approval prior to Publication via App Store

We're using Adobe's DPS to create simple tools and documentation for various health-care products.
Our client is a global Ad Agency. Their client is a HealthCare company.
They eventually want to publish these 'apps' via the Apple App Store, but, currently just want to demo these apps to:
    1. Their client, in a number of countries
    2. A number of global Ad Agency offices & staff
Is there a way, before publishing to the App store, we can share the app, on iPads, to a number of people (probably less than 100) for approval and review, without them having to own the DPS or be subscribers to Adobe Creative Cloud?

Yes, get them to download 'Adobe Content Viewer' from the App store.
You can then give them a username and password to login and view the preview.
Theres a little more setup require such as users and Adobe accounts.  But I'm sure you can find a tutorial on here or ask for more advice.

  • Download issues with Android DPS App

    Hi All,
Just wondering if any of you are trying to download a folio from the android dps app and cannot change navigation pages. The folio is downloading but it looks like it freezes until the folio is completed downloading.
In iOS, you can download a folio and click on other navigation page.
Is this a fix for adobe or am i doing something wrong?
    Thanks

You must be using the legacy Android app which does not support progressive download. You should try using our new native Android application, which does.
Here's Bob's help topic on building native Android apps: https://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/building-android-apps.html
Here's a list of what's supported in the different apps. Note that not all overlays are supported yet in the native Android viewer (audio is still being developed): Digital Publishing Suite Help | DPS supported feature list

  • Android viewer on Samsung Apps

I was not able to find info about experience with submiting of Android viewer to Samsung Apps - is there such possibility?
    Thanks!

DPS does not officially support the Samsung Appstore hence no documentation. However, the same android APK from app builder should work on Samsung store too. Google around on how to send it to Samsung appstore
