Private VLAN Promiscuous Trunk Port - Switches which support this function

Can anyone confirm if the "Private VLAN Promiscuous Trunk Port" feature is supported in any lower end switches such as Nexus 5548/5672 or 4500X? According to the feature navigator support seems to be restricted to the Catalyst 4500 range (excluding the 4500X) as shown below. If the feature is going to be supported in the Cat 3850 this would be good to know, thanks

Restrictions for VLANs
The following are restrictions for VLANs:
The switch supports per-VLAN spanning-tree plus (PVST+) or rapid PVST+ with a maximum of 128 spanning-tree instances. One spanning-tree instance is allowed per VLAN.
The switch supports IEEE 802.1Q trunking methods for sending VLAN traffic over Ethernet ports.
Configuring an interface VLAN router's MAC address is not supported. The interface VLAN already has an MAC address assigned by default.
Private VLANs are not supported on the switch.
You cannot have a switch stack containing a mix of Catalyst 3850 and Catalyst 3650 switches.

  • Catalyst series - Private VLAN over trunk

    Hey every body
I was planning to implement a Cisco Nexus 5596 in a data center as it supports private VLAN over trunk.
But now, I av been forced to use a Cisco Catalyst series instead of the Nexus one.
Based on the feature that is very important for my manager (private VLAN over trunk), which Catalyst switch can be replaced with the Nexus 5596? In other words, what Catalyst series switch works at the same scale and efficiency of Nexus 5596 and supports private VLAN over trunk feature?
    Cheers

  • Need CISCO switch which support 10 GBPS Traffice

    Hi all,
In my data center currently I have 13 servers with Cisco Ethernet switch which supports 1 GBPS network that switch is up-linked with a sonicwall firewall.
We recently bought a new sonicwall firewall which has a two 10GE port.So I am looking now a cisco switch which has at least 16 10GE Fiber ports and one/two 1 GB Ethernet ports. That one  1 GB ports will connect to existing cisco switch and 16 GE FC ports will connect  to firewall and as well as all server which I am planning to move one by one as we buy 10 GB supported SFC Network adapter cards for these servers.
Can you guys suggest me a Cisco Switch with 10 GE Fiber supported with 1/2 1 GBPS ethernet. Also if you can suggest me 10 GE Supported SFC adapters for Dell R 710,R720 and IBM x3550,M4 and IBMx3650 M4 servers.
    Thank You

To see which ODBC function DG4ODBC is looking for and unixODBC isn't supporting it would be best to get an ODBC trace file. But as your unixODBC driver (unixODBC-2.2.11-10.el5) is outdated and these old drivers had a lot of issues when being used on 64bit operating systems (for example wrong sizeofint etc). So best would be to update the unixODBC Driver manager to release 2.3.x. More details can be found on the web site: www.unicodbc.org

I use SQL Report Builder to connect the driver and try SQL Statement in it
Report Builder may be executing an ODBC function to retrieve meta data, and that function is not supported by the PMSDK driver.  Are you using the latest version of the PMSDK driver?  You might try turning on ODBC tracing to find out the problem

    Read reply #5.
    It says
You're getting this exception because you're using the executeUpdate() method that returns a ResultSet. That's a JDBC 3.0 function, and the JDBC-ODBC bridge only supports JDBC 1.0.Good Luck.

  • Error -11040 Driver does not support this function- Informix SE db

    Hello,
Weu2019re getting an error -11040 "Driver does not support this function" when trying to connect to an ODBC data source to an InformixSE database. This is with Crystal 2010 and 2008 on a Windows XP sp2 box. Weu2019re trying to use the ODBC(RDO) choice for a new connection.
The Informix ODBC driver has been loaded. We tried 3 versions, the 2.40 and 3.70(latest) ones from IBM, and one that I believe came with Crystal (CR xxxx). I tried turning on the ODBC trace file, but it didnu2019t write anything to the log. We are supplying the same log in credentials as with Excel.
The Informix database we use is Informix SE (Standard Engine) v5.10 on separate machine running Unix (Aix) with the Informix-Net daemon running to handle odbc connectivity. We are able to connect from Excel to the Informix database.
I donu2019t know what ODBC function Crystal may be expecting from the driver that it doesnu2019t seem to support and how to tell Crystal to not need it.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
According to the Platforms for DB support we only support these Informix data sources:
IDS (Informix Dynamic Server)     11.50       32 bit       64 bit        Linux               AIX                   Solaris
IDS          IDS Client 11.5                                     Direct     Direct     Not Supported     Not Supported     Not Supported
ODBC      IBM Informix ODBC SDK 3.50             Direct     Direct     Direct             Direct             Direct
ODBC      DataDirect ODBC 6.0 SP2 (10)      Direct     Direct     Direct             Direct             Direct
You may want to try the Data Direct 6.x drivers as a test.
CR in the .NET IDE is running under 32 bit mode so make sure you are using the 32 bit Client.

  • How to setup Private VLAN in Small business switch SF200-24

    Dear All,
According release notes 1.4 , private vlan is supported. I've upgraded my SF200-24 with firmware 1.4.0.88 and boot 1.3.5.06. The system information show firmware version 1.4.0.88 and boot version 1.3.5.06 after reboot. I can't find private vlan setup command on GUI. Please help me to setup private vlan. Thanks.

    Hi,
Unfortunately PVLAN is not supported on 200 series. However you might be able to overcome this using general port concept.
    for example:
isolated port - general 10P (PVID), 30U, drop tagged traffic
    community - 20UP, 30U, drop tagged traffic
    promiscuous - 30UP, 10U, 20U
    Note: primary vlan 30
    does it address your requirements?

  • How to add VLAN to trunk port on Cisco SF200-24

    Hello All,
I have question want to ask:
I have Cisco switch SF200-24 I want to configuration VLAN as below:
    Port 1 to 10 = Vlan 100
    Port 11 to 21 = Vlan 200
    Port 22 to 24 = Vlan 300
    Port GE1 = Trunking (Primary)
    Port GE2 = Trunking (Secondary)
How to add all VLAN 100, 200, 300 go through Trunking Primary and Secondary?
Which port can I connect for management switch?
    Thanks

    > How to add all VLAN 100, 200, 300 go through Trunking Primary and Secondary?
firstly set those ports as trunks via "VLAN Management" -> "Interface settings" - click on corresponding port, click on "edit.." button and select "Trunk" from list.
Once those ports (GE1 and GE2) are as trunks, you can now assign them all desired VLANs via "VLAN Management" -> "Port VLAN Membership". Select first port (GE1), click "join VLAN" and select all desired VLANs from left list and put them to right list.
    and you are done.
    > Which port can I connect for management switch?
by default, switch management IP is a part of default VLAN1. If you wanted to keep access to your switch, assign "VLAN1" to one of access ports, or change management VLAN to different number than 1 - but in this case dont forget to apply correct IP settings in order to meet subnet assigned in new VLAN.

  • Problems setting up public/private vlans on sg300-52 switches

A real beginner here with a problem on how to setup 3 SG300-52 (in L2 mode) as per this diagram:
Port 1 on all switches should be able to talk to each other and access the blob at the right.
The ports 25 on the other hand should only be able to talk among themselves in their own
private vlan. They are to carry sensitive traffic.
    So I created 3 vlans, vlan 78 for ports gi1, gi51 and vlan 10 for port25,49,50 and a dummy vlan: 666
with the intent of segratating vlan 10 from vlan 78.
My attempts so far have failed.
ports gi49-50 are configured as trunk ports and gi1,gi51 as access ports as the following
cli output (excerpts of the startup config):
    vlan database
    vlan 10,78,666
    exit
    interface vlan 1
    ip address 172.16.10.11 255.255.255.0
    no ip address dhcp
    interface gigabitethernet1
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 78
    interface gigabitethernet25
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 10
    interface gigabitethernet49
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10,78
    switchport trunk native vlan 666
    switchport default-vlan tagged
    interface gigabitethernet50
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10,78
    switchport trunk native vlan 666
    switchport default-vlan tagged
    interface gigabitethernet51
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 78
Ports gi1 can talk to each other and access the blob but ports 25 refuse to talk to each other. But as soon as I remove
the access links to the blob they can! Obviously, at that point port gi1 lose access.
Is such a topology feasable or even advisable?
    Thanks,
    jf

    Hi Jean,
    Here's a pretty picture
    Now I will explain.
The layer 3 switch is going to service as your core switch.
Vlan 78 looks like your BLOB connection.
Vlan 10 and 666 look like they don't belong on the BLOB.
    So how to configure this-
You will want to configure the switch that connects directly to the BLOB as the layer 3 switch depicted in my diagram.
Layer 3 switch, follow this document
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-27038
Bear with me, I am making up random numbers since I don't know what you want or will use.
So VLAN 78 looks like the BLOB and 10 and 666 are staying out of the BLOB.
    config t
    vlan database
    vlan 10, 78, 666
    int vlan 1
    ip address 192.168.1.254 /24
    int vlan 10
    ip address 192.168.2.254 /24
    int vlan 78
    ip address 192.168.3.254 /24
    int vlan 666
    ip address 192.168.4.254 /24
Configure the port you want to go to the BLOB, I am assuming vlan 78.
    config t
    int gi01
    switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 78 (that 3750, what is the native vlan of the port it is connecting to??)
Next, configure the downlink port to connect the layer 2 switch
    config t
    int gi0/2
    switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10, 78, 666  (this will make the port native vlan 1 untagged, rest ports tagged)
On the downstream switch you need to configure an uplink and downlink with the respective vlans. It will remain layer 2 mode.
    config t
    vlan database
    vlan 10, 78, 666
    int gi0/1
    switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10, 78, 666
    int gi0/2
    switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10, 78, 666
Same thing for the last switch, it will remain layer 2 mode
    config t
    vlan database
    vlan 10, 78, 666
    int gi0/1
    switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10, 78, 666
    int gi0/2
    switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 10, 78, 666
Let me know if this works out or if it is not logical for you.

  • Private Vlans and trunk mode

if we have a primary vlan 100 associate with it
vlan 11 over {fa0/2 work as host mode} , vlan 12 over {fa0/3 work as host mode} they work as secondry community vlan
    and vlan 13 as isolated secondry vlan over {fa0/4 host mode}
    How we can route between private vlans 11,12,13 and {vlan 50 fa0/5 access mode}
cloud we use the fa 0/1 which connected to L3 device as promiscouous mode and trunk mode at the same time or what ... ??
    and

Private vlan's are all on the same subnet, so from what you are writing I see:
    100-------------------------------
    | | |
    | | |
    11 12 13
    Fa0/2 fa/03 fa0/4
and you want to route to Vlan 50, correct?
In that case you need to trunk vlan 100 to a vlan interface and make sure that vlan 50 also has a routed interface on the same device.

  • I want a router in N-standard which support extend-function. Which product should I buy?

    Hi.
I want to establish a new wireless network in my house because my old router are crashed after a stroke of lightning. My old router was a Netgear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N (WNDR3300). I live in a big old house and my problem with this and my older Linksys router was that the signal could not reach in the ends of the house even though the router was placed in the middle of the house.
I have heard that you can extend the wireless-signal if you put an extra router (in extend/repete-mode) halfway to the end of the house and this without cables between the "main router" and the secondary router that you have set at extend-mode. Is this correct and if so which Linksys routers supports this extend-function in N-standard (I would like to have the possibility to stream music at the network and I have read that the N-standard would be best to this) and is it the same model I should by for the "mail router" and the router there may be in extend-mode?
    Thanx for your help (-;
    BR
    Jan

The Linksys router will not work wirelessly with another router with the linksys firmware installed in it.You need hardwired both the router together or need to installed the third party firmware on it.I would suggest you to go for WAP200E Access Point which will work as repeater mode.

  • Message : "LabVIEW no longer supports this function..."

When you try to open a VI built in 7.1 using version 8. x and if it has a function like Open/Create/Replace file.vi  or Write Characters to File.vi , you get a message that says LabVIEW no longer supports that VI and instead use of another VI is recommended.
Assuming I ignore this warning ( maybe there are too many replacements to be made ) and go ahead and build the VI with LV8.0, will something unforeseen happen ? Because despite the warning of not supporting the function,  LV8.0 App. Builder still compiles and builds the EXE using those VIs. I do know that LabVIEW is quite forgiving and tolerates inefficient code but I don't want to compromise efficiency if I can avoid it..
There are many instances when you need to modify code built with previous versions and it may not be viable to spend time to replace functions just to make them compatible with the new version.
Can someone enlighten on this ?
    Thanks

The thing that you need to do is save those lists of warnings and go through them to see the comments matter. Some of the unsupported functions could be because the function they performed is no longer needed due to other changes in the language. For example, in V1 you had special formatting VIs to prepare data for plotting. Starting with V2 you could just wire data to the graphs and the display would morph themselves to match the datatype wired to them.
But back to you main point, it used to be that the changes that happened between one version and the next were of the sort that the conversion code could fix on the fly during the conversion process. There were things live terminals were moved around or the datatype of a function was changed. When you saved your code in the new version LV would simply reestablish the connection to the new terminals or insert a type conversion routine so the existing code would continue working. And let me be clear, LV still does that in most cases.
The problem is that NI has started making changes to the way the language works that are not possible to fix automatically. For example, the decision of whether or not to display scrollbars on a subpanel used to be a property of the subpanel - now its a property of the window being inserted into the subpanel. Now you could make the argument that logically this is the way it should have been all along (and I'd agree with you), but the fact remains that this isn't something that LV can fix on the fly because there's no way it can know at compile-time what VIs you going to be inserting into the subpanel. In the end, NI is left to make the decision whether to fix something that was implemented incorrectly the first time or leave it alone for "compatibility reasons".
Of course this opens up the question of how much input from the user community NI gets before making changes - which is clearly not enough considering all the uproar over the interface changes with V8.x. But it also gives me some hope that someday they may drop stacked sequence structures from LV - something that has been there since day 1 and has never really belonged in the language.

  • VTP Pruning vs Allowing VLANs on Trunk ports

We would like to know best approach to reduce VLAN traffic on our network. We are currently trunking all fiber ports 802.1q.
We have about 73 VLANs across the network. We have done a lot of research and there seem to be a lot of theoretical answers but no one who uses it in practice.
Here is our current configs for fiber ports between closets:
    Cisco WMH6509
    interface GigabitEthernet2/8
description Fiber To STB Lab 3850
     switchport
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport mode trunk
     no ip address
     no snmp trap link-status
    end
    Cisco STB Lab 3850
    interface GigabitEthernet1/1/1
     description Fiber To WMH6509
     switchport mode trunk
    end
    We are considering:
    VTP Pruning Enable
               or
     switchport
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport trunk allowed vlan 26,99,109,188
     switchport mode trunk

As I have some years (cough - decades) software development experience, I lean toward automation solutions, so, for example, I often prefer dynamic routing over static routing, and so likewise, I prefer VTP over manual configuration on multiple devices.
However, VTP does have some "quirks".  For example, this year I ran into an issue where an edge switch had a new VLAN defined to a port which wasn't in use on a transit switch, so VTP auto pruning, pruned it off the transit's uplink trunk.  (I was a bit of a pain to find the cause as VTP doesn't prune right away - edge worked for a bit and then it stopped working.  One fix would have been to stop using VTP auto-pruning, across the whole VTP domain, but instead, configured VTP to not auto-prune the needed VLAN across the needed trunk.)
So, as Paul notes, VTP auto pruning might be easier to get going, but be prepared for unexpected incidents (again, not saying you'll have any, just be prepared).  So, if you're prepared, I would go with VTP auto pruning, but if you want to "play safe", go with Paul's recommendation.
