Prmiere CS4 / Encore HD(footage) on dvd4.7gb problems

Hi guys!
I like to create a nice custom build dvd (standard dvdR 4.7gb ) with menus and transitions from my recorded video clips (" AVCHD Video (.mts) ") with my JVC camera. i know how to work in encore cs4 and premiere pro cs4. the only thing i dont know is what formats to use and resulution so i will not loose any of my hd quality.
Can i use my HD footage from my camera ( those .mts files), and have them pre-rendered with premiere pro as .m2v files and import them to Encore so i can build my project and play them on my dvd player on tv without loosing any quality?
Can anyone help me out telling my i can do best and why? so i have more understanding of how to keep the same quality of my " AVCHD Video (.mts) " files or atleast a very high quality for my DVD4.7gb dvds if HD is not possible.

thank you so much everyone out here for the great support. i really appriciate it.
@ Ann
Re: Prmiere CS4 / Encore HD(footage) on dvd4.7gb problems
You have several options;
1. To keep it in highest quality you will have to burn it to BluRay (BR), which means a BR burner and a BR player
If you do not have a hdtv and a standalone BR player you can play your BR on pc (e.g. Power DVD) or Playstation.
This is minor issue at the moment, but in the future i will surely buy one .
2. Burn your movie to DVD in HD quality. This means you make a BR iso (fully authored with a menu) and burn it to DVD with e.g. Nero.
You do not need a burner just a player: either pc, or standalone. About 20 minutes movie length on a SL and about double on a double layer although not all players like DL.

3. You burn your movie in SD to DVD. Downscaling of the HD footage either in Premiere or in Encore.
this is actually what i did Ann, i scaled the origional footage (*.mts ) in my "DV Ntsc(720x480)widescreen" sequence in premiere  and then EXPORT Media and have Adobe Media Encoder render it out as m2v files with i supose the same quality, but i guess here is the problem were it went wrong. im not sure though.
doest is matter what sequence type i choose and if so whats the best one for my AVCHD footage?
i set my sequence to "DV Ntsc(720x480)widescreen"  coz i know that a dvd , standard-definition video needs to be :
Frame rates and sizes for standard-definition video formats are as follows.
Standard
NTSC
PAL
Frame rate (frames per second)
29.97
23.976*
23.978*
24*
25
Frame size (pixels)
720 x 480
720 x 486
704 x 480
720 x 576
704 x 576
Frame rates and sizes for standard-definition video formats are as follows.
so i choose the in green displayed formats for my widescreen dvd, thats correct right ?

I'm not sure that I am getting everything from your post.

Did you have the full-paid version originally, or the "trial?"
If you had the full-paid version, why did you download the trial?
If you had the trial, it does stop working after a period of time - it is limited that way. If you had the trial, you can never install another trial on that machine. It's a one-time deal.
If you did have the trial, you will want to not only uninstall it, but also run the Adobe CS4 CleanScript a few times, before you attempt to install the full-paid version, or you WILL have problems.
Let us know exactly what you had, and what you wish to do now, and someone can help you.
Good luck,

• CS4 Encore and Photoshop problem

Hello.  I was using CS4 Encore and opening a pre-packaged menu (Lakeside) and used the right-click "edit in Photoshop" option.  I've used it before without trouble, but it's been a while.  I'm seeing several oddities now and don't know what's going on.
1) Right-clicking in Encore and choosing "edit in Photoshop" opens Photoshop but not the actual file.  It just goes to a blank screen in Photoshop.
2) If I open the file manually and make changes, they don't save.  As in, literally, the file doesn't save.  I can choose save and it doesn't return an error, but every time I choose "close" or "exit" I get the prompt to save again, and after saving if I force quit or something then the file does not exist in my target drive or update in Encore.
I tried re-associating .psd files with Photoshop but it didn't work (they also appeared to be already associated).  I haven't made any changes lately that I'm aware of.
Thanks.

Well, I like "gremlins."
Only thing that I can think of, would be if the Library Menu PSD was Read Only, but that should have yielded an error message to that effect.
Also, the first thing that one normally sees is the warning about PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), as all Menus, not designed for BD (Blu-ray Disc) will have a PAR for non-square pixels. A full HD Menu will have a PAR = 1.0 (Square Pixels). That warning is just a reminder about the display, which will be Square Pixels, even though the PAR is not 1.0.
One oddity, that I have encountered, but on a very limited and random basis, is where the Save from PS does not always update back through the link to Encore. Seems to happen about 1:10 +/- basis. Because I am often working on multiple Menus in a session, I just make sure that I do a Save at least 3x, during the editing process. Why 3x seems to be the magic number is unknown, but then, it always works for me (a few others have found similar issues with Save not updating, but not many). I just do my editing, hit Save (or Ctrl-S), then close up my Layer Sets, and hit Save, or Ctrl+S again, study my work, and do one last Save, or Ctrl+S. That has always worked perfectly, and the Menu does always update in Encore.
Yeah, probably gremlins...
Good luck,

• CS4 Encore motion menu crash while transcoding (render motion menu)

Hi,
I have a rather large but simple Blu-Ray project. I have a main menu (with a CS4 Premiere dynamically linked background video and WAV sound but no animation on buttons) that is linked to a series of video index menus with motion (the chapter are linked to six buttons that include video preview). All my videos are dynamically linked to a Adobe CS4 premiere sequence in five different projects. All the Adobe CS4 Premiere projects where manually transcoded with success. I have a total of 43 menus (including the main menu and one popup). Here is my problem...
In my Blu-ray project, every time render my motion menus, CS4 Encore crashes (no error message) and generates a crash report. The weird thing is that it never crashes at the same place. I can render from 1 to 6 menus before the crash. I have noting running except encore and I have no screen saver and my power settings is set to never.
I work on a Intell Quadcore 2.5 Mghz, 4 GB of RAM, Spphire HD4850 Graphic adapter (updated less than a week ago), Vista 32 (updated). All my CS4 apps. where updated less than a week ago.
Any ideas???
Any help would be appreciated because I am getting very upset with CS4 Encore....

Finally I have found a workaround. I set all the motion menu's to no animation and build the projetc. Afterward, I put the animation on one menu and I render it. It is very long but it works. now my problem is elsewhere. On my output BD, some menu's only have a few second of animation before they loop. in some cases i dont even have a second. I have rebuilt my project and I have the same effetc but Encore seams to have put loop points at random.

• New i-7 Toshiba Satellite crashing  with PPro CS4, encore, AF

Hello everyone,
I realize this is an install problem but as of now I have spent over 5 hours with Adobe support and over two hours with Toshiba support, finally sending the laptop back in for testing with no problems found.  Just got the unit back and only installed the CS4 suite but still have the same problems:
When opening the program from the start menu I can get a "display driver has recovered" sometimes with Nvidia error code 4 or 8 system recovers, program vanishes.
Program opens appears normal start to move cursor and computer locks up, Ctrl,Alt,Dlt has no effect, waiting has no effect, have to pull battery.
Or any combination of the above.
The problem exists when running Premiere Pro, After Effects or Encore with no other programs running CS4 master suite, all other programs run fine, on a new Toshiba P770 custom build  (matchesP770 BT4G22)
All drivers updated from Toshiba site, CS4 updated from help menu.
i-7 2630Qm @2GHz
6GB ram
Nvidia 540M and Intel HD graphics family
Win 7 home premium SP1 64bit
Removed Norton trial
I would appreciate any information as well as hearing from anyone who is running on a like laptop as I am stuck not knowing if there is a software, Adobe, or hardware, Toshiba problem, I have the same CS4 suit working on my desktop.
Thanks

Jim, I don't know why laptops use two display adapters but my other laptops show two adapters as well although the adapters are the same where as this unit has two different ones.
I forgot to mention when the HD adapter was disabled PP appeared to operate with a much lower resolution, however the computer did not go to sleep when the lid closed and the max. screen resolution dropped from 1600 x 900 to 1280 x 720 changing the status of the HD back and forth is not an option due working with a blank display.

• I have 64 bit windows 7 and CS4 Production Premium. I have a problem with Premiere Pro CS4, it keeps

I have 64 bit windows 7 and CS4 Production Premium. I have a problem with Premiere Pro CS4, it keeps freezing and Crashing. A simple thing like leaving the project idle for about 15 minutes, you come back and find that it has frozen. Also if you drag out a clip on the timeline you will find that the whole application freezes. Any possible solutions would be much appreciated.

Could be several factors at play here. This ARTICLE might give you some tips on getting your computer ready for an editing session. Note that there are some added tips on Win7, thanks to Black Viper, near the end.

• Why does it take CS4 Encore 2 days to transcode Blu-ray h.264 High Def

I have been trying to create a Blu-ray disc for Days by adobe dynamic link from Adobe Premiere Pro. I have no problems with creating a DVD. I only have problems when I try sending over 1080i High Definition footage instead of Standard Definition. I was able to create a successful Blu-ray with only 53 minutes of footage, but now I am trying a fully edited video with Titles and Transitions and the length of video is somewhere in the area of an 1hour and 54 minutes and it has been trancoding for over a 24 hour period and still not finished. I have CS4 Master Collection, Windows Vista 64X bit, i-7 processor at 2.66 and 6 gig of memory Hard-drive external 7200 RPM 1.5TB Seagate and 2 Internal Harddrives 750 G and 1TB. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this problem when sending footage over with adobe dynamic link directly to Encore??? When I use the Media Encoder by itself from Premiere it only takes about 6 hours to render 1 hour and 53 minutes of Video into the H.264 Blu-ray format. I am racking my brains to understand why. Also it seems that it Transcoded about half within 5 hours and has seemed to have considerably slowed down since. Please anyone with any suggestions would be very helpful. Also my project shows in the build as being 13.42GB and I it is transcoding in the H.264 Blu-ray format.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunatley I have tried the idea of transcoding the footage and exportig to encore by importing assets and it freezes and Encore hangs there without any response. I think I have lost the last hair in my head trying to figure this out. I am not sure if the imported file is too large for Encore to import as the file is almost 14G but it is very frustrating. I was thinking of going to CS5 but I wanted to up-grade to Windows 7 and have been hearing a lot of issues with CS5 running correctly, so I am waiting till they get all the bugs worked out with that. Also I was curious in CS5 is Encore a true 64 bit program now along with the Media Encoder and Encore or is it just Premiere Pro that is 64 bit? This is one of the reasons I had moved from CS3 to CS4 is because I thought the entire CS4 Master collection was 64 bit only to find out it was just Photoshop. It did work out some issues with Flash that I was having as well as Acrobat, but I want true 64 bit rendering. Please let me know Thanks again. Joe

• Adobe Encore CS4 - Encore Failed

I recently had a problem with Adobe Encore CS4 with finalising a project to DVD, and to make a long story short I had my computer totally wiped and reinstalled all programs. The problem I now have is, I export a HDV file from Avid Media Cmposer and import it to Encore but when I try to Transcode it, I get a "Encode Failed" message.
I have tried other formats "Quick Time Movie" and "Quick Time Reference" which works fine, but I get a colour burst in the video which is not in the original footage and it only appears in Encore.
I appreciate any help to solve this problem.

For CS4 you must update the Roxio component http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1309029

• Fresh CS4 Encore - won't start

Hi,
I have just installed Windows 7 and a fresh install of Master Collection CS4.  Everything is working except Encore.  It starts with the splash screen, but then quickly disappears - gone as if it ended normally - Nothing in the event viewer, no dump, nada.  I've seen multiple threads on this subject, but no solutions.   Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks,
Chris

Everyone is saying there is an issue with Win7, and I have the exact
same problem on two machines, one running XP/32 and the other running Win7/64. In both cases Encore CS4 freezes. Everything else works fine except Encore. Whether I start from shortcut or thru dynamic link I get the same freeze.
Any input would be great

• CS4 Mac Reconnect Footage locks up?

Greetings!
I rencently wiped my hard drive for a fresh install of my new CS4 Production Premium. The location of my media now sets in a different location. No problem! The media is still on my Mac.
When I load my old CS3 projects, it tells me X number of files are offline. No problem! I highlight my video clips > reconnect footage and it re-links all clips. No Problem! I highlight my other files (and I've done this in every possible order, psd, eps, ai, jpeg) and I do a search for the individual clip thats offline, and as I click OK it says XY number of files were found ... pinwheel. After Effects locks up! ??  I've even left the project clips offline, and Saved As CS4. Pinwheel if I reconnect footage.
I've tried this on ALL of my old CS3 projects! I've reversed the order in which offline clips I select first. Pinwheel.
What's going on??? Why won't After Effects reconnect my footage without locking up? I'm up-to-date 9.0.2.

Yes, if I manually loacate the file, then it WON'T lock up. If I perform a search for that file (in the After Effects Replace Footage window), it DOES. Strange.
In Apple's Final Cut Pro, the Search function for reconnecting media works quite well so I'm certain this is not a MacOS files system issue.
I've had this same thing happen to me in AE. I just figured it was a minor bug, something ugly between the MacOS Spotlight and Adobe? They're not getting along with each other. I gave up trying to figure it out and simply use your same workaround.

• CS4 with HD footage from Canon HV30 - will new CPU help?

Hi guys,
I've just dumped an hour of Mini HDV footage onto my system, and the playback constantly stutters - the video pauses for a second at a time. My first guess was my CPU, but now that I've read other posts here, it may just be CS4.  I'm using Windows 7 Release Candidate 64-bit.  I have 4GB RAM and an Intel E2180 CPU.   I was thinking of upgrading to an Intel E8400, but maybe not if CS4 is just buggy.
Any thoughts?

Hey Josh,
I am building a new Windows system around an i7 and saw your post about Windows 7. I really like the idea of a leaner, faster OS, but I have two questions that I thought you might be able to address:
1. The Windows 7 web page states that when the RC version expires, "To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use."
That part about needing to installs the programs...does that mean that I'll have to effectively wipe my system drive clean and reload WIndows 7 and CS4, etc again? (versus just updating Windows 7)
2.  I'm not experienced with dual boot and I've read on this forum that it is not recommended to partition your system drive. What is your experience with using a dual boot system...as far as any speed penalty from the partition. (I admit that I may be making an incorrect assumption around why partitiioning was discouraged, ie, don't put OS on one partition and data on another...I get that)
3. Should I research every component of my new system to check W7 compatibility (MOBO, GPU, etc) or is it so similar to Vista that most everything works fine?
Thanks for any advice!
                            Jim

• CS4 Encore keeps freezing during transcoding process.

I'm using CS4 and trying to make a DVD that is 30 minutes long using Encore. It keeps freezing after about 5 minutes during the transcoding process and seems to always freeze at the same spot according to the progress bars.  I don't get an error message...it just stops and has to be forced to close.  Shorter videos seem to go through just fine as long as they are not over 12 minutes long.  Any ideas?  System is running Intel i7 975, 20gb ram, 2gb ddr5 Radeon video card.  I've made longer videos in the past...this is a new issue.

• Can i just use photoshop cs4 to rotobrush footage?

there is this new feature I have seen in after effects cs5 called rotobrush. at first glance it appears to be a photoshop selection tool that has been ported over to after effects. is this correct? if so can i just use the video features in photoshop to achieve the same effect? I am struggling with a green screen shot where the screen is reflecting in the side of the car. i may need to just lose the green screen altogether and shoot the car and actor against a kind of uniform brown background and rotoscope the actor and car. instead of upgrading to production studio cs6 perhaps i can already do what i need to do with my existing software which is cs4.
thanks in advance
Angus

I looked at the two clips, and I'm sorry you're so far into the project.  Bad reflections.  Unwanted shadows.  I noticed you wondered out loud, "How do they do it in Hollywood?"
For starters, they use visual effects people with years of training and experience.  They have photographers who already know how to shoot for visual effects.  Frame One never gets shot until they KNOW things will work.
The only time they shoot just on faith of success is when they shoot test footage.  Not in production.
In my opinion, you're at this metaphorical point:
You're sitting on the limb of a tree, working hard to saw the limb off.  Unfortunately, you're making the cut between you and the tree trunk.  Once you realize the mistake, you have two options: stop immediately, give it up as a bad job, climb down and try again later... or keep on working and fall hard.
Thus, I offer advice you won't want to hear: stop right now.  Cut your losses.  Don't waste your time and money until you get the knowledge you need.
This is a good and comparatively inexpensive  starting point.
