Pro Active monitoring scripts /solution

-JCAPS 5.1.2
-Unix
I was wondering if anyone would share a sample or example of how they may be using some of the tools available to monitor some of the components in JCAPS?
I see the jconsole and mc4j tools and am able to connect and view the mbean status.
What I would like to do is to pro actively and programmaticaly
- Check an inbound connection status (HL7 tcpip)
- Check an outbound status (Hl7 tcpip)
-Check the jcd svc, tranlation
I was thinking of how one would approach the following requirement
Check the outbound status
If the status is down then attempt to restart the connection and send an email (e.g. component "component" down attempting to restart")
Wait or sleep for 10 minutes check the status again and if it is up send an up message
else if it is still down send a message to differnt email (the on call pager)
It would be nice to be able to present this data in a webpage so the operations folks would see the widget status other than eManager.
Thanks in advance

Thanks very much, I am a little behind the curve on all the terminology and have downloaded mc4j as well as jconsole.
Thru trial and error I have been able to start and stop via both jconsole and mc4j. I guess I am most likely making an easy thing way to hard as I do not have a huge programming back ground.
I don't quite understand the structure on the MBEAN tab other than there is a monitor bean (MBEAN) and I see the projects also but I am not quite sure how all the pieces go together.
So when you say JMX interface do you use JCAPS as the interface e.g. prj JMX or do you leverage the other existing toolsets like the jconsole.
Thanks again and I will continue to search the site, as I would like to perform the functionality you just described.

  • Database uptime monitoring by either snmp or active monitor script anyone?

    Hi,
Has anyone previously setup any type of active monitoring script through whats up gold or an snmp informant type of monitoring script to advise when a database is down or specific process is down?
An example would be like ORACLE_PKG1, and the process is named ora_smon_hrprd88.
This is what the HP-UX “ps” shows:
    tpadb01:/# ps -ef | grep -i ora_smon
    oracle 13207 1 0 Jan 1 ? 0:29 ora_smon_epprd88
    oracle 13281 1 0 Jan 1 ? 1:31 ora_smon_hrprd88
    oracle 13635 1 0 Jan 1 ? 1:03 ora_smon_fsprd84
    oracle 3620 1 0 Jan 2 ? 0:18 ora_smon_mtprd04
    oracle 14586 1 0 Jan 1 ? 0:23 ora_smon_mtprd05
    oracle 15223 1 0 Jan 1 ? 0:26 ora_smon_inprd88
    oracle 15879 1 0 Jan 1 ? 0:25 ora_smon_epsal88
    oracle 16769 1 0 Jan 1 ? 0:52 ora_smon_hrsal88
    root 17976 22609 0 10:46:39 ttyp2 0:00 grep -i ora_smon
    tpadb01:/#
Not sure if the extra info helps, but you never know. We can set it up to send us database up alerts, but the problem I have is when the listener service is down I can't get my script to finish no matter how I change the values of my script around. I can provide my script if that would help as well. If someone has already done this and is willing to share great!

I would suggest you install OEM Grid Control to monitor your databases. For basic monitoring function it's free. OEM GC works great, it's a little overweight though. It's also use SNMP.
Or you can choose any third party tool like

or some commercial one like Quest Software.

  • Background Job execution enabled via pro-active monitoring

    Hi community,
We're interested in CPS Redwood to help us in proactive monitoring of background jobs (Ad Hoc and Periodic) and impacts in system performance.
The idea would be to have somehow a tool that monitor the number of available working process and system performance. When the system workload reaches a certain level, ex: 95%, this tool would intercept new jobs execution. After this, when the system workload goes down and the resources are free, the system would release all jobs to normal run again.
Is it possible via CPS Redwood?
Is there any other way to have something automatic like this?
    Thanks,
    Jose Antonio.

    Hi Jose,
This is possible indeed using CPS. CPS can monitor various load metrics of your system, then adapt the scheduling logic if thresholds are exceeded.
In your scenario, you would basically always intercept all jobs, but normally not enforce any limits so effectively that means all jobs still run immediately. If the load is too high, CPS would enforce a limit, so then jobs will be delayed until the load is lower again.
    Regards,
    Anton.

  • Tips on managing Activity Monitor?

I'm getting a new MacBook Pro next week. Until then, I'm running my current machine off an external hard drive. However, it's very hard keeping it going. It sometimes works fine for a while, but it always freezes eventually, apparently a victim of insufficient memory.
I just wondered if anyone has any tips on key processes I can close in Activity Monitor to keep it going? I've freed up some memory by using Safari and TextWrangler instead of Chrome and Dreamweaver. In fact, the only programs I have open at the moment are Safari, TextWrangler, MAMP PRO, Activity Monitor and Finder.
Surprisingly, Finder appears to be another major memory hog; it freezes all the time (though not at the moment).
    Thanks.

I have tried installing a disc to try and reinstall the operating system.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

photoshop bridge on my 3 year old mac pro has become inoperable.  In activity monitor is is using 180+ percent of CPU.  I also get switchboard not operating.  I deleted all of photoshop and bridge and reloaded them.  Same problem.  Does anyone know a solution.  Setting up a new user account has been suggested.

    Hi @Tom,
Thanks for your response.  "Camera Uploads" is a folder in which Dropbox deposits all my photos and movie clips from my cameras.  It is a rather enormous folder likely exceeding several gigs of media.
    The file path is
    /Users/bpg/Dropbox/Camera Uploads/
I really don't know the difference between "media" and "events".  I consider media a group or bunch of photos and movie clips.  I consider "events" a specific bucket or container of photos and movie clips.  If I should know more, a reference to documentation or an explanation of the difference would receive "This helped me."  If you could explain how to get FCPX working again (it just won't do anything beyond the splash screen), I will provide "This solved my question."
    Thanks for your help!

  • Why does my macbook pro keep showing me the force quit screen and states that there is not enough memory?  The activity monitor shows that there is plenty of memory available.

The message displayed in the Force Quit Applications window says "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory.  The only applications that I have open are Safari and Finder and I am simply reading a discussion board.

It would appear that this error can be caused by an excessive system demand for swap space that exceeds the maximum allocation. Just try restarting the computer.
I found a possible solution for finding the cause of the error. Open Activity Monitor. Be sure you have the Real Memory column showing and the Processes dropdown menu set to All Processes. Select the Real Mem column and sort in descending order. Leave Activity Monitor open. The next time the error appears the application at the top of the column is the one causing the error.

  • Can not see TC hard driver using istat pro or activity monitor

I upgraded the firmware of TC to 7.4.1 yesterday, but I found the transfer speed was too slow and I noticed that I can not see the TC condition using istat pro or activity monitor. So I downgraded the firmware to 7.3.2. Now the transfer speed is fine but I still can not see the TC hard driver in the istat pro or activity monitor.(but I can access files in the TC hard driver normally)
    Can anyone help?

I couldn't see my TC hard drive in iStat pro until I actually mounted the TC's Airport Disk using the Finder 'Connect to server' dialog. iStat Pro only gives me Used and Free GB for my Airport Disk. My TC is an old 500GB upgraded to 1TB running 7.4.2 firmware.
As to checking the temperature, I'd be interested too. I have a digital thermometer taped to the top surface of the TC and it is reading 46C with an ambient of 17C. The TC sits on top of a cupboard with clear space around, and I am resting it on a spacer which lifts it 12mm clear of the cupboard to give it the best ventilation. The TC has been doing a long (08:00 - 21:00) Time Machine backup today.

  • Updates break Activity Monitor (Mac Pro & G4)

After applying the recent updates to my Mac Pro Quad Xeon and my G4 dual 800, both running 10.4.11, Activity Monitor does not work on either machine. On double-clicking, I get the launch animation and the Dock expands for less than a second, but the application does not launch. Trashing the .plist file in the User domain prefs folder doesn't help. Neither does Repairing Permissions.
Conversely, Activity Monitor works fine on my iMac, running 10.5.5. All machines are networked via a Time Capsule – the iMac via AirPort, and the desktops directly via ethernet (Cat 5e).
Any ideas about what's gone wrong here?

  • Warehouse Activity Monitor - Pros & Cons, Configuration

    Hi,
I would like to know pros & cons of 'Warehouse Activity Monitor'. Want to understand whether it will help business by activating it. If Yes, then what are the configurations required to activate the same.
    thanks,

    dear friend,
    as far as i know:
the warehouse monitor is useful for several reasons:
-Not all warehousing processes are carried out in the system without errors.
-Errors are often not recognized until sometime after they have occurred.
-The search for the cause of an error and correcting it can be time consuming.
orders to move stock in the warehouse should always be processed within a reasonable time period. one of the key features of the warehouse monitoring task is the checking of timely processing of transfer orders in WM.
    good luck!
