  • Corrupt media causing dropped frames? FCP shuts down without warning.

    Hello,
I have a project that was working fine, then one day we started getting numerous dropped frame warnings during playback on the timeline (specifically during sequences that have multiclips); then two days later, playback causes the entire project to freeze and FCP shuts down.
We are on 17" MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667
    Mac OS X 10.4.9
External drive: Western Digital 1 TB, My Book Pro Edition, FW 800, 7200rmp, 650GB used
FCP 5.1.4, DV-NTSC project, source media captured from DVCam
I have tried all the normal adjustments for dropped frames issues including boosting the ram allocated to FCP, closing additional sequences and applications, hard drive is formatted OS X Extended, etc. Multiclip squences have only 2 video/audio streams at a time, so I can't imagine that its bottle necking here.
One thing to note is that the second external drive, which has duplicates of all the same media and copy of the most recent project is working fine. The only difference is that the problem drive also has media that was ripped from DVDs using Mac The Ripper, and then compressed using MPeg Streamclip into .dv (then changed to .mov before importing into FCP). We are using the DVD material as scratch until we can obtain the original footage as we get closer to going online. We are in the process of obtaining permissions from directors/distributors/studios, but this obviously takes time.
DVD material is totaling close to 55GB. Also, even though the clips are .mov, we are still getting a red bar and having to render the media. Audio is at 48hz so no problem there. Not sure why it still requires us to render.
Is it possible that the project is somehow corrupt? Is all the rendered material too taxing for FCP? Am I handling this extra footage inefficiently?
I have spent hours on this forum looking for the answer, but haven't come across a solution yet. Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure I understand. You have duplicate media on another drive? You're having problems playing back the media from one drive but NOT the other? Sounds like your drive might be failing. Try running Diskwarrior (to repair any possible directory structure problems) and techtoolpro (to see if there's any physical problem).
I have had problems with multiple firewire drives from different manufacturers connected at the same time. Try disconnecting everything BUT the problem drive.
You shouldn't need to do any rendering if the clip settings exactly match the sequence settings. Try this: select one clip, control click and choose make multiclip sequence. Is there a red bar in the sequence? If not, your clip settings to not match your sequence settings in the problem sequence.
    Good luck

  • I need pro applications update 2008-02

I recently updated several FCP stations with the Pro Applications Update 2008-02, but for some reason it only changed FCP from 6.0.1 to 6.0.4 on one of them. So I retried performing the update, but nothing comes up. Then I tryed manually downloading it, but the now the version update (pro applications update 2008-03) changed to require an OS update.
The administrators will not allow me to update the OS in order to get this new update because of the other software apps on the computers in this lab, and the fact that it could cause problems with other software.
Is there anywhere where I can get the old Pro Applications Update 2008-02?

I need to make a slight correction...
The Pro Apps Update 2008-003 should still contain the FCP 6.0.4 installer. The trend I've seen with new updates such as these is that they still contain the necessary installers from previous releases. Our systems here are still running FCP 6.0.3 with no plans to upgrade just yet, so I haven't tested this out just yet. But I still have previous updates archived to the iDisk.

  • Scrolling mouse cause drop frames?

    Hi everyone.
My problem is that when I'm scrolling my mouse over timeline while playback, it causes dropped frames. Does anybody know what could be the possible reason for this. My video format is apple intermediate codec, and at first it worked fine but now the problem returning.
Have brand new imac 27, with 12Gb RAM.
Well thanks for your advice, really appreciate it.
I've read almost similar thread which was written like 2 years ago and no answer was found. Just wondering if the situation is different at this time. =)

where are you storing the media files?
If its the internal system drive you need to get a drive capable of sustained video data rates

  • "Pro Application Support"

Is Pro Application Support automatically rolled into the next version of the OS? In other words if I have 10.4.6, should I still download Pro Application Support 3.1, which came out over 6 months ago?
(Just finally got my Logic 6 > 7.2 upgrade and I'm about to install, first I'm going to do a fresh install of Tiger)

Check the /library/receipts folder: is there any ProAppsUpdate2005-02.pkg file in there? Alternately check the log files with the console utility, and search the software update log...

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

  • "Pro Applications Update 2008-05" keeps being installed

    Hi there
So, since 2008, everytime I perform a software update, that "Pro Applications Update 2008-05" is there, waiting to be installed... and it is. But it keeps reappearing.
Any idea how I could tell OSX that it's been there for years?

I figured out what the problem is for me at least. I had formatted my drive as Case Sensitive. I did a reformat (now it's just Mac OS Extended Journaled) and reinstall and Logic updates just fine now. In addition, other weird problems I was having have disappeared.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-01    Good or Bad experiences ?

    Hi Guys,
Who's up dated to the - Pro Applications Update 2008-01
and have their been benefits or issues ?
    Cheers
    Tom K

Everything is up to day via software update:
    LiveType 2.1.3
    FCP 6.0.3
    QT 7.4.5
OS X 10.4.11 (Can't run Leopard on either of my Mac Pros (G5 Quad and Intel 2.66 2x core-duo) because I run ProTools on both (TDM on the Intel, LE on the G5)
I mostly use the second internal drive for video stuff, but I have three FW-800 drives for backing up older projects, DVD images, etc.
My test was pretty simple: in Livetype, I typed in some text which took three lines, applied various textures to a separate track and to the matte; put in some "live fonts," do some fade effects. I did this on both a regular NTSC SD project and a HD (ProRes 422) 1920x1080 project. It all works, rendered OK, exported, etc. I put the resulting video files through compressor to create SD MPEG2 files and they worked, too.
I've been using 6.0.3 pretty extensively for a project (two hour movie of a play), and again, it all seems to work just fine. The long standing problem with some HDV not "conforming" correctly (exceedingly blocky video in places) has NOT been resolved with the update; the same time line rendered and exported as ProRes 422 is just fine, so it is an HDV issue.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 - Speeded up my video?

Downloaded and installed Pro Applications Update 2008-02. Now all of my projects seem to be in fast motion and the audio is out of sync.
I also have a Blackmagic Intensity Pro installed.

The Pro App 2008-01 is on the Logic Studio Update Page (http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/download/), and I'm willing to bet that if we actually need 2008-02 it will be put up on Logic's download page within the next couple days. Until then I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Pro Application Support 4.0.1 - use with FCP 5, etc?

Apple has released "Pro Application Support 4.0.1" (see http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport401.html) What's not clear is whether this is only for users of Final Cut Studio 2, or do these updates work with/apply to previous generation applications like FCP 5, Motion 2, Soundtrack 1, etc. I can't find any more detailed read-me.
    Thanks,

The reason that the audio objects got bigger when inserting a plug or assigning a group is that the audio object is not "one" size" you can actually change the the size of an audio object! Drag it 4 times the size and you'll receive a grey big and ugly fader:-) Theres little "headroom" if you want the fader to lookk like you're used to but the size is actually variable:-)
Anyway it's great that the standard size is now not changing its size when instatiating:-)

  • Can't install Pro Application Support 3.0 onto 10.3.9

Topic says it all, sort of. DL'd Pro Application Support 3.0 to install on a Mirrored Drive Doors ("Wind-tunnel") G4 running 10.3.9, which appears to have stabilized on aninstall of 10.3.9, QT still at 6.5.2. Nogo on the install of Pro Application Support 3.0. DL works fine, file looks great, install proceeds smoothly, but when the drive icons are shown in the next to last step, ticking off the drive with Logic Pro version 7.1.1(8885) elicits the red exclamation point. What gives - anybody know?

    Hi Ana,
This is it.  Once I installed, Logic opened fine.
I do have another question.  After updating Logic Studio, I now have both Logic Pro 9.0 and 9.1.4 and Logic Node 9.0 and 9.1.4  Do I need both of these on my hard drive?  Can I delete the 9.0 version?
    Thanks!

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-5 won't install properly

I just did a clean reinstall of everything on my MacBook, including Snow Leopard and Logic Studio 8. I've run Software Update multiple times to make sure I have the latest of everything, however Software Update wants to install Pro Applications Update 2008-5 every time I run the updater.
Does anyone know how to get the Pro Applications Update 2008-05 to stick and not show up every time I run Software Update? I've checked Library/Receipts/InstallHistory and it is listed on there 6 times.

I figured out what the problem is for me at least. I had formatted my drive as Case Sensitive. I did a reformat (now it's just Mac OS Extended Journaled) and reinstall and Logic updates just fine now. In addition, other weird problems I was having have disappeared.

  • Pro Application Support message alert

    Hi All
I've been using Logic Pro for a year now. Recently my Mac was running software updates
but my battery run out during this time and my Mac power cable wasn't connected. Thus the updates
    were interrupted and incomplete.
When I started my Mac I had several issues (I couldn't access Mail / Safari etc). I was advised
to re-install my start-up dics, which I have done. All applications are now working apart from
Logic Pro. When I try to open it I now get this message:
"This version of Logic Pro requires Pro Application Support 4.0 (687.0) or newer.
    ProKit: 591.0"
Anyone have any ideas as to how best to resolve? Appreciated. D
